Little Power-house!
Ernest from Topsham, ME on 4/5/2025
All I have to say is Wow! This sub is a little power-house. Although its size is small, it is hefty and solid. It's construction and finish is top notch. I have mine connected to a pair of Kanto Ren bookshelf speakers, and this sub really takes the load off those speakers and allows them to perform the highs and mids beautifully. The sub is very "punchy" and I actually have the volume on it turned down quite low. I don't mean that in a bad way; it's never boomy, it just seems to have a lot in it (more than I really need). Packaging was great, and set-up is a breeze. I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone.
Pros: Small size, big bass Sturdy construction Beautiful finish Easy set-up Nice adjustments
Cons: Instructions show a phase dial, my unit came with a toggle switch.

Crutchfield customer from Woodstock, GA on 1/30/2025
Solid build with good metal chassis, and extended rubber feet that dampen vibration and allow the pounding bass to disperse into a substantial sound field. I'm very pleased with the output of such a small footprint. I highly recommend the S8.
Pros: Beautiful metal cabinet and sculpted port. Great size and great performance

Quality Subwoofer from Audoengine
Simon from RALEIGH, NC on 12/10/2024
I recently purchased the Audioengine S8 subwoofer to pair with my Audioengine A5+ powered speakers. I found that the S8 is a well made product that performs very well. The included instructions clearly explained how to set the volume and crossfade, and it was very easy to set up and tune to my tastes. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a subwoofer to pair with their powered speakers.
Pros: Affordable. Easy to set up. Sounds great.

Damian from Stamford, CT on 11/21/2024
I'm using this to replace a sub in a smaller home theater set up in a back room of my house. I'm a big fan of Audioengine - very solid build and the look of the S8 doesn't disappoint. The sound is full and tight but probably works best if it's placed on a hardwood or tile floor. As always - Crutchfield does not disappoint with any purchase - just simply the best in the industry.

On April 10, 2024, I ordered the Audioengine A5+ Speakers for my Desktop Computer and after hooking everything up, the Speakers sounded great, but needed a Subwoofer. On April 22, 2024, I ordered the Audioengine S8 and in less than 48 hours, it arrived at my front Door. Much like my review for the Audioengine A5+, the Audioengine S8 was well packed and I had it set up in less than 5 minutes. A Subwoofer will always make a big difference in the overall listening experience.
Pros: Compact size, simple 2 Wire setup and the S8 is very powerful.
Cons: Honestly..... I'm hard pressed to find any cons about the Audioengine S8.

Worked well with Klipsch R-15PM
John from Ctr Sandwich, NH on 12/2/2023
This is the first subwoofer I've had. I used it with a pair of Klipsch R-15PM. Those speakers do have a sub output female RCA jack so it should be a simple matter to hook up the S8. The only thing that was a little confusing was the S8 comes with a set of RCA cords designed for stereo output, so if I wanted to use the cables that came with it, I would have had to cut them apart or leave one just hanging there unattached. Fortunately I had a nice RCA cable I could use and eventually figured out it needs to be plugged into the Left/LFE jack on the S8. Once it was set up it performed very well and made the R-15PMs sound much fuller.
Pros: Good sound.
Cons: Came with paired RCA cables instead of a single RCA cord.

Amazing subwoofer!
James from COLUMBIA, MO on 11/25/2023
I had never heard of Audioengine until recently, when I bought their B1 bluetooth receiver. I was so impressed with the quality, that I checked out some other products of theirs. I was wanting to upgrade my PC sound system, and studied up on best ways to do so. I decided to go with powered bookshelfs (again, Audioengine, going with the A2+) and sub. WOW! Absolutely insane upgrade over the standard 2.1 PC setup I had before (which was a good quality Altec-Lansing system). So glad I went this route. Now my office ROCKS!
Pros: Easy setup, amazing sound! LOVE the auto standby mode.

Sub worth buying over others brands
Elvis from Nederland, TX on 10/2/2023
This sub packs a punch! I have decided to write this review so I can be entered for a gift card, but this is a honest review. Wanna know why it's honest? Because my wife said it was too pricey! But hey good stuff isn't cheap and cheap stuff isn't good. This sub will probably last longer than my marriage but that's okay I wont stop listening to all my songs all over again when that happens. It's deep and bumps hard. I have it in my living room and it looks sharp. I have it paired with A5 plus speakers and a Denon turntable.

While the Audioengine HD6s are fantastic speakers the S8 puts them into overdrive. Great combination. When playing along with a song on SiriusXM on my guitar I can crank my amp up. The Audioengine system can be cranked also. It can't keep up with the Marshall amp but that's not to be expected. But is loud enough and deep enough to sound awesome. Brad from WILKESBORO, NC on 12/25/2022
Small footprint, big clean musical output, cosmetically pleasing and matches other Audio Engine components perfectly. This little guy replaces a Def Tech super cube 2000, and I've never been so pleased to see an overpriced component leave my setup. This thing is an absolute perfect match and compliment to the A5 series bookshelves. Actually, they should never be sold separate, they work so well together! It does outstanding with tv and blu ray, but seriously shines listening to music. It's tight, powerful, musical, punchy, and above all very very clean and smooth. Fantastic addition, and Christmas present to myself.

Beautiful speaker & it looks great, sounds great, and it is very reasonably priced
Pros: Great finish & all the electronic components are of exceptional quality, and it has an awesome sound & is a great value
Cons: The fabric bag they wrap the Sub in at the factory is hard to remove. One can damage the woofer & drop the Sub while removing it if one is not very careful taking it off. Bag should be an included accessory. It's unwise & unnecessary to cover the entire Sub with it since it's already wrapped in a protective styrofoam sheet. Nice thought but not a wise one. Good option though if you lose the box it came in if you ever decide to move

I purchased this subwoofer and didn't hook it up for over two weeks. I was even considering returning it since my new speakers sounded so good. But, at the last minute, I decided to give it a try; after all, I had neve used a subwoofer with a system before and wanted to see what it sounded like. I am so glad I finally hooked it up. The difference it made was astounding. Not only did it allow me to hear the music with all the bass I'd been missing, but it somehow allowed my speakers to sound even better; th4 midrange and high frequencies came through much clearer. I highly recommend this subwoofer. It only takes up a space about 11" x 11" on the floor and the satin black finish is as pleasing in appearance at as it is to touch.

Have paired with the A5+...have to keep the sub no more than 65% or it over powers them crossed at about 70hz....the description written for this sub is a little off (first gen like mine) the new gen does not have audio out rca's (daisy chaining) and variable phase control knob. I go through many speakers/subs...but these have lasted the longest on my desktop for my every day needs and I don't plan on them departing me either!

Great little sub, feet are tall enough for carpet use. Bought these with the A2+ and comes with everything you need to connect the two. You barely have to turn the volume up to get great and accurate bass. Only the lowest of low notes can fade off a little but you would never tell if you hadn't owned a 10+ inch subwoofer. I got a great deal on a used pair of Audioengine A5+'s last summer after seeing countless great reviews-many reviewers and owners said they were really impressed by the bass but being a basshead, I wasn't so I bought this and it brought the thump that the sound needed and even when I turn it up really loud, it still sounds good which is pretty amazing for a (relatively) inexpensive 8" subwoofer. What Your A2
Crutchfield customer from Flanders, NJ on 10/31/2020
I waited a long time to add this to my desk setup and wish I hadn't. Paired with AudioEngine A2's, the S8 is exactly what was need to fill out the sound without overpowering the image. Computers and speakers tend to be a lot closer than normal listening setups so having a full sound without a lot high volume is key. The S8 is efficient and very easily adjusted to fill in the lower end of what the A2's are missing. It quickly joins the party without any pops or noise. I have other higher-end subs for more dedicated listening setups and S8 is every bit as tight and responsive as ones costing twice as much.

Great addition to the Audio engine setup
Crutchfield customer from Richmond, VA on 9/7/2020
While the Audio engine A5+ speakers are a powerhouse on their own, adding the S8 sub really helped to round out and fill in the lower frequencies. The sound is finally right in the sweet spot. Crazy fast one day shipping (in VA) was great. Setup was also simple. The only reason it's not 5 stars is due to an ever-present electronic hum from the sub when it's powered on, even if not hooked to any inputs.
Pros: Well packaged, fast shipping, easy setup

An excellent pairing with the HD6s
Matthew from Albany, NY on 7/27/2020
I am not an audiophile. I am just someone who loves to listen to music and podcasts while working at my computer in my small home office. I use Audioengine HD6s with a Cambridge Audio Magic DAC attached to my Mac. I listen mainly to jazz and classical, and I edit lots of videos where I need to have a somewhat representative sound coming from the speakers. I wanted a little more bass... Nothing overwhelming... small room and all. Nothing horribly expensive. The S8 fit the bill. Small footprint, simple connection. Easy tweaking to get the sounds I like. This is a very good and reliable utilitarian subwoofer. I cannot say whether an audiophile would be happy, but as someone who just loves to get immersed in my music, I could not be happier. Highly recommended.
Pros: Easy to connect and tweak Great sound for a small room Small footprint
Cons: Maybe put the volume on the front? A small, mostly irrelevant critique.

Well designed, but lacks low end.
Jesus from DALLAS, TX on 1/31/2020
I was really let down by this sub as aesthetically if fit my home office perfect. Design and build are rock solid IMO. I was really disappointed in the sub trying to produce sound below 35hz or so. From my basic testing, it seems the box is tuned to ~40hz as below this point the volume drops quickly. If you try to output anything below 30hz it is basically inaudible, even corner loaded didn't help with room gain. I listen to various of genres of music with frequency range in the 25-32hz so this sub didn't work for me. I wasn't expecting room shaking volume, just a sub that can produce effortlessly to 25hz or so. Will be replaced with a SVS sub, more than likely 2-3 times the cost unfortunately.
Pros: Design, gloss white.
Cons: Cannot produce sound below 35hz effortlessly.

I'm used to sunfire sealed inclosure subs, so my expectations where high. This little cube, paired with a set of Audioengine A2+ (mini) speakers does an absolutely fabulous job in a 2.1 setup for my computer system at work. No regrets, and would recommend highly! This setup gives excellent flexibility in terms of input options, auto-switches due to "always open" inputs, and looks superb. I just finished building a set of speaker stands for the "little one's" to get them to ear level at my desk. I'll add a picture when I write my review for those.

Byron from Kona, HI on 8/13/2019
This little guy is fantastic. Hooked it up to my A2+ system which was stellar to begin with but lacks that deep down thump and rumble not achievable by small drivers in the A2's. It's funny because the A2+ cost less than the S8 but deliver so much. The S8 only does the low down but it really rounds out the whole package. Plugged the right out from the A2's into the sub's right in and it worked great. Powers off when not in use to save juice. Small design is nice for behind or under the desk. USB power outlet included
Pros: Small. USB Power outlet. Power saving mode. Good value.
Cons: Small which means it could have trouble in larger room applications. Ported which produces more bass but less thump and more whump than other options. Warranty is only 3 years.

Excellent Sub, Excellent Service from Crutchfield
Aaron from Springfield, VA on 6/15/2018
Bought this sub from Crutchfield open box, received it quickly, hooked it up, and... nothing but a steady hum, regardless of how I connected it to a variety of sources. A five minute phone call to Crutchfield customer support later, and they had a replacement (this one being new stock) on its way to be to be delivered the very next day. The new one arrived as scheduled, and it sounds phenomenal! I've had good luck with Crutchfield's open box products in the past, so I believe this was a very rare oversight, and they more than made up for their mistake by providing a new stock model. I cannot say enough about how amazing Crutchfield's customer service is... they exceeded my expectations in their efforts to make this right, and I will continue to make Crutchfield my first stop when shopping for electronics! High praise for Crutchfield aside, this sub is an excellent performer! I have it paired with Audioengine HD3 desktop speakers, and this thing has bass for days. It's probably better suited as a pair for the HD6s or the A5s, but since Audioengine doesn't make smaller or less powerful subs, I just turned the volume down to about half and it blends exceptionally well. With its range of adjustments, it can be tuned to play nicely with many genres of music, and even if you love absurd amounts of bass, when paired with A2s or HD3s, this beast will easily satisfy your bass cravings. Hits hard, and deep, if you want it to.
Pros: Fantastic output, beautiful design
Cons: No grille over down-firing woofer

great punchy bass!
Lucas from Nederland, TX on 10/31/2017
This is a great sub. Ive only had it for a few days but its evident as soon as i hooked it up that it was a great buy. It has way more bass than I will use with my current set up but it dosent lose it punchyness when turning the gain down. I have it paired with a sonos connect amp and two psb image b4 speakers on my computer desk. Ive very happy with the setup and this sub was a perfect addition to it. It looks great, sounds great, and has 0-180 degree phase adjustment if needed.
Pros: sounds fantastic, looks fantastic
Cons: none

Great Bass Sound!
Pete from Albuquerque, NM on 5/7/2017
Sounds great paired with the S5 speakers. Living in an apartment doesn't allowing me to crank it but the few times I've had the volume up it does crank and the bass sounds really good. I'm not really a aficionado, but too me the bass pounds. The quality and construction of the bass is excellent. I purchased the white bass with the shiny white gloss finish which stands out with my other equipment. Ease of use and easy to connect.
Pros: Bass Sound Pounds! Quality and Construction are a plus. Easy to connect.
Cons: Don't know of any.

Audioengine Subwoofer S8
Cormac from Kemah, TX on 6/5/2016
We thought the sound system we bought from Audioengines could not sound better - we were wrong. By adding the S8 Subwoofer, which we also located on our kitchen cabinets, the system transformed our kitchen/famly room into a concert hall. Unbelievable!
Pros: Small, solid and simple to add Amazing performance Added a completely new sound dimension
Cons: None

AWESOME
Craig from WIsconsin on 3/7/2016
I was on the edge about ordering this with my A5+'s and boy am I glad I did. It really adds to the low end, which in my opinion is the only area the A5+'s are a little weak.
Pros: Easy set up. Sounds great out of the box.

Surprising Port Noise
gbomb from California on 12/16/2015
This is a nice little powered subwoofer, but was not a match for my space and ears. The construction is solid, it looks nice, controls are easy to work with and sensitive analog controls for easy precision adjustment. But for my small room, this made just too much port noise. In fact, so much port noise I thought it was broken and requested a replacement which was exactly the same. Unfortunately this subwoofer did not work for me, but I have a refined preference for low frequencies and this just didn't live up to my personal expectations.
Pros: Small size Decent output, can move some air Sensitive adjustment controls
Cons: Port Noise - very noticeable in small rooms Vibrates on hard floors, spikes are too smooth - the entire enclosure moves and vibrates on our bamboo floor controls on the back of the unit, no remote level adjuster power cord can come unplugged fairly easily.

Audioengine S8
Adam D from New York on 6/8/2015
Excellent sub, packs a big punch for an 8 inch subwoofer. I definitely recommend this product both in general and to be paired with Audioengine A2+ speakeers which is my setup. 100% worth the money. You have to be patient and listen closely with your adjustments when tuning in the sub. I personally made adjustments and came to a happy medium with many different genres of music which goes without saying. If you were second guessing purchasing this sub just go for it. I happened to get a sample sound of it from a demo sub that was in a store so it was an easy decision after hearing it in action.
Pros: standby mode when it is not in use but still has power to it, down firing sub
Cons: the pointed legs on the bottom

Great Product
AndyS from Charleston, SC on 2/23/2015
This is a great audiophile subwoofer, I connected it to my bamboo audio engine a5+ and its a perfect match. This subwoofer hits hard but never fails to provide quality clear sound, even at its extremes. I live in a dorm room and i do keep getting noise complaints, even when i barely have it on, just because of that wide frequency range, dropping all the way down to 27hz. so be prepared if u live in a dorm or apartment but besides keeping your neighbors awake, this is the sub to get. I couldn't be happier with the product and a big thanks to Crutchfield for delivering another great product, right on time!
Pros: great clear sound, great power, all around awesome speaker
Cons: keeping my roommates and neighbors awake (i live in a dorm room)

Awesome
Dunamis from Hawaii on 1/20/2015
These Subs are soooo good, I bought two. One for work and one for my home office. Work is paired w/A2 speakers and home is paired w/A5's. I ordered just the speakers first and had them for a couple of months before adding the subs. WoW! What a difference they make in the already awesome sound. Everyone who hears them at low or loud volumes are impressed by the sound. If your on the fence, jump in and get these. You won't be disappointed...
Pros: Big Sound...
Cons: None...

Sam from Illinois on 1/1/2015
This subwoofer is awesome! It performs better than I had expected. I have the Audioengine A5+ and the S8 woofer fulfills the low frequency range, delivering superior sound. The auto standby feature is also a plus. Overall, I am very happy with this product.
Pros: -Great low frequencies -Excellent build quality -Easy input/output connections
Cons: -Slightly pricy (but the sound makes up for it), otherwise, none.

Great Subwoofer
LuisP from Newport Beach, CA on 12/28/2014
I added this subwoofer to my Audioengine P5 speakers, and it really rounds the system out. The bass is clean and punchy - not muddy. Plus the cabinetry and style is beautiful, as are the P5s. The controls on the back are easy enough to access. There's not much else you can say about a subwoofer. This one lives up to the hype.
Pros: Great sounding, stylish.

Extraordinary sound - worth the money!
John the Geek from Richmond, VA on 6/11/2014
From the first moment I powered it on and began to feel the bass, I knew I had made the correct decision. This sub pairs so well with my AudioEngine passive speakers and Teac desktop amp that I wondered what took me so long! Now my music is great, movies on my PC are better and games are beyond immersion.
Pros: Fantastic sound, easy setup, clear directions and no hassles.
Cons: Cannot think of any.

Fills out the sound spectrum
Brent from Charlottesville, VA on 4/4/2014
I added the S8 to a set of A2s for my computer music setup in my apartment and I'm very pleased with the result. When my wife and I downsized from our house (thanks for moving out, kids!) I replaced my traditional 100 watt receiver/amp/speaker/sub setup with an iTunes-based computer music system, and I was missing the deep bass I had with the subwoofer. Now I have it again. I had to reduce the sub volume level a bit so my neighbors wouldn't complain, but the overall sound is now richer and deeper. The setup was easy and the small size of the S8 fits in well with the smaller living room. I got the Satin black model to match the A2s and the Sony Bravia TV atop the dark brown, almost black Havenworth A/V credenza. It not only sounds great but looks great - hey, my wife is an interior designer, it has to look great!
Pros: Compact, easy to set up, deep rich sound.
Cons: None.

awesome base
PeterH from Brooklyn, NY on 1/6/2014
I purchased the S8 sub woofer to accompany my A5 speakers. The setup took just a few mins. I know the A5 speakers sound great but adding the S8 made the sound came alive. My wife said it sounded like she was in the theaters. Awesome sound. Best set of speakers and sub I have owned.
Pros: Deep base Clear sound

Amazing Clarity and Power
Danny from Houston, TX on 8/14/2012
I've had many different powered subs before that are in the price ranges of 800-1000$ and when i got these i was definetely surprised by the power they have. I tested them and i put them on 70% power, went outside my house, and saw the windows flexing from the amount of bass they produce.
Pros: Best speakers for the price, Amazing Clear low pitch sounds. Definetly Bring my Music Back To Life!
Cons: Kind of big, but hey "Big sound, Big speaker" Right?
