Features
CD Transport: The Cambridge Audio Evo CD is a CD transport designed exclusively for Cambridge Audio's Evo Series integrated network amplifier (Evo 75 or Evo 150 - sold separately). As a CD transport, the Evo CD plays your CD and extracts the digital information from the CD disc and outputs it digitally via a proprietary digital connection. With no DAC ( digital-to-analog converter) in the Evo CD, it outputs the CD audio signal in digital form, relying on the high-quality ESS Sabre ES9016 K2M of the the compatible Evo series integrated network amplifier for the crucial digital-to-analog conversion stages.
- The Cambridge Audio Evo CD is a CD transport and not a CD player; it does not have a built-in DAC.
- The Evo CD can only be used with the Cambridge Audio Evo 75 or Evo 150 integrated network amplifier (sold separately); and cannot be used with other brand and models of integrated amps, receivers, DACs or other audio components.
Note: Ensure that the connect Evo 75 or Evo 150 integrated amp is running the latest firmware version (Service Pack version v132-b-004 or later) for the Evo CD to function.
High-Quality Build: The anodized aluminum that encases the Evo CD's precision components not only matches the Evo Series' purposeful design, but also contributes to its performance. The acoustically dampened metal chassis and drive tray ensures that nothing interferes with the audio signal. The Evo CD comes with interchangeable side-panels that can be swapped out for a black vinyl or wood-grain finish.
S5 Servo Drive: The Evo CD uses Cambridge Audio's new S5 Servo, an upgrade on the acclaimed S3 found in their CXC CD transport. It features even better speed precision and musical data retrieval than its predecessor. The Evo CD doesn't use a multi-purpose disc drive, but a custom designed piece of engineering with the sole purpose of playing audio CDs with unfailing accuracy.
Disc Compatibility: The Cambridge Audio Evo CD supports the playback of CD-DA, CD-R, and CD-RW discs (12cm or 8cm) that contain CD-Audio music files. The Evo CD can also playback MQA CDs and the CD layer of hybrid SACDs. In addition, the CD transport supports gapless playback.
- The Evo CD does not support CD-R and CD-RW discs that contain MP3, WMA, AAC, or other music file types.
- The CD transport is not compatible with SACD, DTS Audio, or other discs.
Evo Link Digital Output: The Evo CD is outfitted with a single proprietary "Evo Link" digital audio output that only connects to a Cambridge Audio Evo 75 or Evo 150 integrated network amplifier (sold separately). This proprietary digital output sends the digital audio signal to the compatible Cambridge Audio Evo Series integrated network amplifier, as well as transmits control commands back from the Evo Series integrated network amp back to the Evo CD via the included "Evo Link" digital audio cable.
- The CD transport is only equipped with a proprietary digital output and cable that will only work with Cambridge Audio's Evo 75 or Evo 150 integrated network amplifier (sold separately).
- The proprietary digital output and cable look similar to a standard 3.5mm minijack cable connection, but it is not and will not work when connected to a standard 3.5mm minijack input or using a standard 3.5mm minijack audio cable.
- Because the Cambridge Audio Evo CD is a CD transport and not a CD player, it does not offer any type of analog output. It also does not have standard optical or coaxial digital outputs.
Note: The connected Evo 75 or Evo 150 amp will need to be switched on and have the "CD" source selected, in order to achieve audio playback from the Evo CD.
Remote Control: The Evo CD does not come with its own IR remote, but can be controlled from the IR remote that is included with the Cambridge Audio Evo 75 or Evo 150 integrated network amplifier. The remote must be pointed at the IR receiver on front of the compatible integrated network amp and the control commands travel through the proprietary digital cable that connects the CD transport and amp (there is not IR receiver on the Evo CD). Remote control commands include -
- Play/Pause
- Previous/Next Track
- Fast Forward/Rewind
- Stop
- Eject
Note: The only control function on the front-panel is an "Open/Close" button that allows you to open and close the disc tray.
StreamMagic App: The free StreamMagic App (for Apple iOS 12.1+ and Android OS 5.0+) gives you full control of the Evo CD, as well as the Evo 75 or Evo 150 integrated amp from your compatible smartphone or tablet device. The StreamMagic app offers the same remote controls listed above, plus provides song/artist/album information (including album art). The StreamMagic App and the Evo 75 or Evo 150 integrated amp will need to be connected to the same network connection. The control commands from the StreamMagic App then travel from the Evo Series integrated amp to the Evo CD via its proprietary Evo Link digital connection.
- The Evo CD uses a music database called 'Music Brainz" to retrieve cover artwork and track information. If you are playing a CD that doesn't display its album artwork or data, this will be because the album/release is not in the Music Brainz database.
- You can add an album/release to the Music Brainz database by firstly creating an account on the Music Brainz website here, and then following the relevant steps via their "How to contribute" page here. You will be able to add an artist, album or song to their database.
Note: The Evo CD does not feature a front-panel display. All song/artist/album info (including album art) will be displayed on the StreamMagic app or the front-panel of a compatible Cambridge Audio Evo 75 or 150 integrated network amp.
Detachable AC Power Cord: The Cambridge Audio Evo CD comes with a detachable 6' AC power cord (IEC 2-prong) that will need to be plugged into the back of the CD Transport and into an AC power outlet or surge protector/line-conditioner (sold separately).

Got this on sale when I purchased the EVO 150 around Christmas. It has worked flawlessly and looks great paired with the 150. No complaints really at all.
