Amazing build quality!
Luis from Falls Church, VA on 1/30/2025
I love these! I was really, really impressed by the build quality and appearance for the price. They look like very high end speakers. They sound surprisingly good for the size, obviously you don't get much bass, but I plan on remedying that with the matching subwoofer. I needed speakers for a small space, and am more than happy with these.

Good upgrade from the Min 10.
Lyle from COSTA MESA, CA on 1/26/2025
These were on sale so I bought a pair to replace older Min 10's. The Min 22 is a big improvement for my 5.2 surround system. The grills are not removable as my old Min 10, the Min 22 owner manual seems to imply the grills can be removed, it shows rendering of them with grill on and off. These speakers are fine for a small room. I'm using the Min 22's as side surrounds. If using in a multi-speaker surround system a subwoofer or two is a must. The removable binding posts are tight, I had to use pliers to carefully pull them out because I use Banana plugs.
Pros: the 'on sale' price.
Cons: Maybe owner manual should clearly say "grill is not removable"

Cambridge Audio Minx Min 22
Siddhartha from Lexington, MA on 12/24/2024
The Cambridge Audio Minx Min 22s are deceptive powerhouses in a miniature form factor. Despite their compact size, these speakers deliver remarkable clarity and precision in my surround setup. As side surrounds, they integrate seamlessly with my JBL-dominant system (308P MkII fronts, Stage 245C center, Stage 240B rears). The Minx Min 22s add a layer of refinement to the surround field, providing precise spatial cues and ambient details. Their clean, detailed output helps create a more immersive soundstage. While these speakers excel in the mid and high frequencies with exceptional clarity, they do require subwoofer support for full-range performance - which is expected given their size. When paired with my JBL LSR310S subwoofer, the system creates a cohesive, full-bodied surround experience. Their compact form factor is a major advantage, allowing flexible placement without dominating the room aesthetics. Yet, don't let their size fool you - these speakers punch well above their weight class in terms of performance. The Minx Min 22s prove that great things indeed come in small packages, delivering a fuller, more refined surround experience that complements my main JBL speakers perfectly.
Pros: Key strengths: - Crystal clear sound reproduction - Excellent integration with other speakers - Space-efficient design - Precise surround effects - Clean, detailed output
Cons: Needs a sub definitely.

WOW These speakers are an absolute upgrade from the Infinity speakers they replaced. I am using these in my basement bar paired with a set of Elac 2.0 due to the rectangular shape of the room. The Minx Min 22's face the bar and sound phenomenal on their own but paired with the Elacs and a Elac sub bring it all together. Others have said they need a sub to complete the performance and I would have to agree. Great speakers for their size
Pros: Size and sound for the money is a deal
Cons: Probably need a subwoofer to make it sound great

Tiny Speakers for Beautiful, Tiny Sound
Jonathan from Chandler, AZ on 6/22/2024
I am using these on a plant shelf above my kitchen/dining area. For soft background classical music and podcast listening, they are great. Clear and detailed in the frequency range they serve. Zero bottom end, of course (let alone mid-bass) so not great by themselves. However, I really wanted something as a small set of "B" speakers using the receiver in the "flip side" room. These are perfect, since the tiny enclosures are sealed. (Back of the speakers is exposed to the room opposite, and I wanted to prevent port "chuffing," etc.). Great value! Add a Minx X201 or X301, and you've got a great desk or bedroom setup.
Pros: Compact size Good value Sealed design good for some applications
Cons: Limited frequency range

The 4 Minx Min22's I installed to replace an old Bose system are really great. You won't get the spacial sound like an expensive 8 inch speaker. in my opinion they are better than the old Bose double cubes. The sound is crisp and clean, no more sounds like everything is coming from a box. I thing using the Minx subwoofer is a must if you want to reproduce deep base.
Pros: Great option if larger speakers will be objectional
Cons: A bit pricey

Decent for a limited for factor
Kevin from CORNELIUS, NC on 3/22/2024
I 'auditioned' these as rear speakers for a challenging room (layout wise), and they were OK. I compared them to the Focal Dome, B&W M1, Totem Monitor, and a random Bose cube I had lying around that would have all fit in the small space I had allocated for the rear speakers. I would rank the Cambridge as better than the Bose by a small margin, but well below the others. This isn't entirely surprising since the other speakers were at a much higher price point, but these were noticeably worse than the other non-Bose speakers. I should say that my auditioning doesn't imply that these are bad speakers - I was surprised that they sounded pretty OK for their given size. There is little mid range, so they almost sound muted, but they were much better in this regard than the Bose. If this was my only option for rear speakers I would use them happily, but in my case I went with another speaker. The Focal Dome was my choice, in case you were curious, but it's not a fair comparison since that speaker is 4x the price.
Pros: Decent sound for the small form factor
Cons: Can't compare to equivalently priced speakers that are not constrained into a tight form.

Clarity
Ray from Estes Park, CO on 3/17/2023
I was pretty upset when I first listened to these speakers because they sounded so much better than my other speakers that cost twice as much. I was impressed by the clarity of vocals and the smooth range from low-mid to high. There's not much bass to speak of so these will definitely need to be paired with a subwoofer. Off-axis listening was equally impressive with very little change in tone as I walked side to side. I'm thinking about buying another pair for my workshop. The only downside is they seem to take a lot of power to put out some volume. Not as efficient as most speakers.
Pros: Clarity Wide dispersion Tiny
Cons: Not efficient, needs a good amp

Even better than I'd hoped
Robin from PHILADELPHIA, PA on 3/11/2023
Fantastic. I bought these a month ago when 3 open-box were available, in advance of moving from a soundbase to a 3.1 system. I'd already purchased the Cambridge subwoofer to supplement the soundbase. The av receiver arrived yesterday, and after hooking up the three speakers and subwoofer I am just stunned at the sound. I'd decided on these in part because I'd read they weren't fussy about placement, so figured it would work well in a corner. A Crutchfield advisor concurred and I now couldn't be happier. I've run them through various HI-RES streams (Mahler 5, Chicago, Abbado; Prokofiev 5, Cleveland, FWM), and the system puts out a clean, warm sound that's plenty big enough.

Great little speaker with impressive sound.
Art from Lansing, MI on 12/31/2022
I bought 5 of the minx 22 for my new home theater system. I paired them with a HSU vtf-3 MK3 subwoofer. The sub and the minx blend extremely well together. Since the sub and the minx were all new. I experienced a slightly thin sound from the minx and some localization from the sub. So I let them burn in. Around the 30 hour mark the localization was almost all gone. And the minx sounded Fuller/meatier. And got sweeter sounding from there as they nearer 50 hours and up. Now that they are burned in. They are the most natural/cleanest sounding small speakers I've heard. I highly recommend these if you want big sound in a small speaker. Just be sure to burn them in for at least 40 hours 1st. You won't be disappointed.
Pros: Very clean sounding. Small size. Really big sound from a small speaker. sounds sweeter and sweeter as they burn in.
Cons: Needs At least 40 hours of burn in to open up and sound their best. Needs a high quality subwoofer because the crossover point is high.

For this particular application, I needed an un rear ported speaker due to room size. I have them paired with a Focal Cub Evo sub powered by an OSD Nero Stream XD for simple 2.1 channel music streaming. Room is roughly 10 x 12 (indoor cycling "pain cave"). I bought the additional Cambridge Audio Minx 400M pivoting wall mounts. Had to play around with placement and ended up with them mounted about a foot and a half from the ceiling and 3 feet from the corners. These speakers sound phenomenal. Mids and highs are solid, crisp and clear without being shrill. I've got the sub's crossover set in the 140 to 150 range to take care of the rest of the sound frequency. They have no difficulty filling the room. Plenty of boom in this small speaker. The only downside I guess is I can't imagine these not paired without a sub.
Pros: Placement Flexibility

Perfect for what I wanted
Crutchfield customer from Auburn, AL on 2/17/2022
After 'only' 34 years, my amazing Bose Acoustimass 5 Series I speakers finally wore out. I was looking for something to replace them with that would occupy a similar footprint in a smallish living room. I had just purchased a Cambridge Audio DAC so I had looked at some of their other products and while researching countless bookshelf speakers that were either too big, too expensive (I listen to music in this room maybe twice a week) or more appropriate for a computer, I kept coming back to these. In combination with a MINX subwoofer, these speakers provide me with good sound, with surprising clarity and instrument definition in chamber music and small jazz combos, which is what I mostly listen to in this room. I got the stands for flexibility of placement and they just seem to disappear into the background (white on white). While these would not be my first choice for heavy symphonic or opera selections, and they are not going to rattle the crystal (I have Walsh Ohms for that), these Cambridge Audio speakers are perfect for my needs.
Pros: Surprising clarity and instrument definition in small living room. Flexibility of placement.
Cons: Can get 'overwhelmed' with dense orchestral textures and vocal/choral music.

Quality Product
Allan from Apex, NC on 1/15/2022
First impressions I am pleasantly surprised. We purchased these and a pair of Min12s for the daughter child who wants decent surround but values a minimalist look. So far I've only demoed a 2.1 setup spaced 5 ft apart and paired with a SVS SB12 crossed at 140 hz and like what I hear. Based on the wide and coherent 2 ch sound stage I'm sure 3 in a 5.1 set up will do quite well. As expected from a Cambridge product I found them to be fairly warm, or at least not bright, with nice detail. They played plenty loud for the 13 (listening position) x 15 space they will fill. If you consider the bass range to cover up to 250 hz you will forgive them if they lack fullness that can't be reproduce below their stated 120 hz bottom end. Since Cambridge doesn't specify I suspect they are more like 140 hz at -3db so they will benefit from a sub that is tight above 140. Eventually they will be paired with either the X201 or X301 that play to 200 hz. For a 5.1 setup I think the Minx line provides a good overall value. Material selection and fit and finish are much better than the vinyl wrapped product you would otherwise expect at this price point. Rather than lamenting the binding post arrangement I want to give the product development folks at Cambridge credit for a really clever design. Though not shown in the instructions, by removing the binding post you can plug your banana plug terminated cable directly into the speaker allowing it to be placed closer to the wall. Clever!
Pros: Fit, finish, materials, sound
Cons: May roll off a bit at higher frequencies.

Almost the rear channel speakers I was hoping for
Crutchfield customer from Hayward, CA on 1/1/2022
I have limited space behind the sofa for rear surround speakers. I was drawn to the high quality build and interesting theory behind these two one inch drivers creating a wide field of sound. Small but mighty is what I was hoping for. But, for my situation, they fell short. In the front are active floor standing speakers that produce a lot of bass, plus a large center channel speaker. Though these little (but mighty) speakers produced sparkling clarity, they couldn't compete with the forces of sound coming from the main speakers. This is not a failure of the Minx Mins at all, just that they aren't the correct surrounds for my other speakers and room acoustics. What did work for my situation are Bowers and Wilkins M-1's. If someone were creating a compact sound system from scratch, and combined the Minx Min's with the Cambridge Audio subwoofer designed to go with them, I think they would be a brilliant solution to having high quality audio in a smaller space.
Pros: Incredible build quality; small, but dense and heavy for their size. Sparkling clarity on the highs and mids.
Cons: Not really a con, but lacked the fullness/warmth to fill in the rear channels with the sound of my other speakers. Just a mismatch on my part. They are great speakers in their own right.

Nice, but exasperating
Crutchfield customer from Virginia Beach, VA on 9/26/2021
This is an attractive speaker that performs very well. There are two, problems, however. 1. The wall mounting bracket cannot be reversed - it only goes in one way. It is also very loose, so trying to find a screw that fits properly is difficult, 2. The speaker wire connection are diabolical, surely devised by a sadistic designer. They pull out of the housing so that the wires can be attached. The posts are steel, so that locating the hole for the wires is difficult. Worse, however, is getting the wire to stay put, since A, you have the connector in one hand, B, the wire in the other and C, have to tighten the connector cap. This leaves one with the problem of solving Roskov's infamous Three Hand Problem. Before you do that you will exclaim "Gee whiz!", "Darn it!", "Golly!" and other execrations. I would advise you to buy something else. This thing provides unreasonable stress levels.
Pros: 1. Attractive 2. Well made 3. Good sound
Cons: Speaker terminals from Satan's workshop

Have an 35ft RV with 5.1 surround sound. Sounded really bad. Wanted to upgrade the LF, RF, speakers for music. My search did not find many good choices for a surface mount speaker. Just found the same china junk for $18.00 ea. Cannot get good sound for $18.00. Then I discovered the Minx at Crutchfield. Ordered a pair with the Cambridge wall mounts. I did not know how the wall mounts would work being I am mounting to the ceiling. I made a post mount and used part of the Cambridge mounts. What an improvement in sound. The quality of sound from this size of speaker is amazing. I use B&W speakers for my home system. So I am critical of the quality of sound. These are not inexpensive. But when buying speakers, You get what you pay for. As for these speakers. Well worth the price. Incredible sound. Cannot wait to add the sub woofer. Regarding the images. Each speaker has two sets of wires because it is a junction point 1 set of speaker wires goes to the bedroom speakers.

Impressive, but could easily be better!
David from Palm Bay on 9/5/2020
I actually have these speakers hooked up to an NAD 2600A amplifier that is a great sounding amplifier. These speakers lack some lows and mids unless you place them right up against the wall. But THEN, THEY COME ALIVE. They are like a different speaker. Get them off your desk and against a wall, and these are impressive! They have big dynamics, phantom center image, wide, and deep dynamic sound. For best sound, you really need to cross over to a subwoofer at 150Hz. 120Hz if you don't like it as warm sounding. They don't have a ton of low end blow that. The top end is a bit grainy up in the "air" region above 10kHz, but it is still pretty good. Overall, this is a really great small speaker with impressive sound. However, here's the thing. I have built several designs with BMR drivers. These drivers are incredibly capable. I noticed right away that I can hear the somewhat flimsy plastic cabinets. It makes instruments sometimes not sound as real as they could. If these cabinets were built stronger out of some kind of MDF or thicker, braced material, these speakers could have knocked it out of the ballpark. I can't think of a better speaker for it's tiny size, but just a little more thickness and this speaker could have a drastic improvement. Because of the somewhat resonant cabinet, I'm giving this 4 stars. If that were fixed, it could be 5 stars.
Pros: Sound excellent near a wall, small, great dynamics, warm considering size, high power handling
Cons: Cabinet resonates and affects sound, needs to be placed close to a wall for warmth in sound, wire connector spin around in cabinet

The Cambridge Audio Minx series speakers are terrific for those who want excellent sound but in a small package which can be tucked away on bookshelves almost unnoticed and so don't dominate or take away from your room decor. We had been using 2 min 11's and one minx 200 bass unit in a 2.1 home theater and music system. We just added the min 22 as a center channel, along with 2 addition min 12's (the newer version of our older min 11's) for an expanded 5.1 system. It works and sounds great, far better than those all-in-one soundbars.

Nice little speakers to replace original Sony speakers we had in our motor yacht saloon. Previous reviews are correct regarding the need for a little more bass. Somewhat pricey but they are a welcome upgrade. We bought four Minx Min 22's and I would buy them again. We especially enjoyed doing business with Crutchfield as they still provide that personal touch missing in today's retail world.
Pros: Nice and compact with great sound
Cons: A little pricey and need a sub woofer

Minx stereo setup
Guest from Somersworth, NH on 4/16/2020
Got these to add a second zone in the kitchen so we could listen to Cambridge CXN network player content in multiple rooms. They are hooked up to a late 90's Yamaha HTR-5560 rated for 75w. I looked at a lot of speakers and these seemed to offer the most versatility space-wise. I'm a Cambridge fan already but these will also fit just about anywhere you want to put them. I did buy the optional wall mounts and also ended up making custom mounts for those to get them at least a foot below the ceiling (mounted higher, there was an echo effect). The packaging and build quality is impressive - hefty, with a high gloss finish and nice terminals. As others have said, they are missing some low end, but that's more or less as advertised in the range info. Classical, Jazz and other well-engineered recordings still sound amazing on the min 22's. Metal and diy punk, maybe not as great. After a week or so, I did order the MINX 201 sub, just to match the lows from PSb bookshelves in the main zone (the rooms are adjacent). I am now finding excuses to cook and wash dishes, just to listen to these. If had this 2.1 setup in a medium sized home office, I'd probably never leave the room.
Pros: Great versatility space-wise Sound great Come in black or white finish Great packaging and build quality
Cons: Bass-heavy music will sound a little thin Wall mounts sold separately

Great sound for a compact speaker
Crutchfield customer from Livermore, CA on 12/27/2019
Spent a lot of time looking for quality speakers that had good reviews. Choose these for our front and rear of our 5.1 surround system. Very impressed. I like that they had custom brackets that made for easy wall mounting and they cleanly installed without any wires showing. They are compact but still have a clean sound and that works well with our KEF center speaker and SVS sub. For being a novice at this I really like these speakers for the money, and they blend easily which helped with the wife and without compromising the sound.
Pros: Cost Style Size Installation
Cons: None so far

Superior replacement for Bose AM5
James from Alamosa, CO on 11/26/2019
I bought a pair of the Minx 22's and the X301 subwoofer (in white) to go along with my Yamaha R-N803 receiver. I replaced a set of Bose AM5-Series III satellites and base module. Super nice difference. These speakers are terrific. As I mentioned in a review for the receiver, I couldn't be more pleased. The sound is crisp, clear, and the base response is just right for classical music. Bose dropped the ball when they decided not to produce the AM5's in white anymore. These are a superior upgrade and worth every penny. And I didn't have to give up any floor space. jimg

Great for TV
Crutchfield customer from Santa Fe, NM on 3/30/2019
It's not fair to compare these little guys with a pair of LoganMartin quests, but I will. For watching TV, there's not much of a difference between them. For music, they're left in the dust. I got them for the WAF; she doesn't like big speakers and never listens to music.
Pros: Small
Cons: Needs a subwoofer for full dynamic range.

Big sound out of not much size
Paul from Stillwater, MN on 12/20/2018
These are GREAT little speakers. I purchased the optional swivel wall mounts and hung them at ear level as my rear channel speakers for my stereo system. In front I use some older Klipsch bookshelf speakers and a Definitive Technology powered subwoofer, all powered by a Yamaha A-S301 Natural sound amp. The Minx speakers, too my surprise, actually gave to overall bass a little additional pizzazz and filled in nicely in the highs. When I played "Brother In Arms" off an SACD (Kenwood player) for my friend Joe, who has a gazillion dollar system, he said this sounds as good or better than the "Red Book" version played on his system. Great speakers. I will be putting these into our new four season porch remodel, for sure.
Pros: Small, with great sound.
Cons: Not invisible, impacting the "Wife Approval Factor."

Cambridge Audio Minx Min 22s fit the bill!
Ray from Madison, MS on 12/15/2018
These speakers sound great. Crisp highs and good midrange. Better than I expected for a speaker this size. They are paired with the a Samsung smart TV and NAD 338 and a Yamaha slim profile subwoofer. I have a very narrow space and after trying some Klipsch Rp-250 speakers, they sounded good, but were just to big. The Cambridge Audio Minx Min 22 do a great job. They fit the space, look great with the NAD components and are a great improvement on the sound from the Samsung alone. I really can't tell the difference from the Klipsch to the Cambridge Min 22s in this application. This is not an audiophile set up to say the least, but it is very affordable and fits the bill for what I needed. CDs also sound great through this system. I have lots of vintage tube gear, McIntosh, Klipschorns, etc. in my listening room upstairs. This set up does not compare, but is great for general listening an enjoying TV downstairs.
Pros: Small, crisp, good midrange presence. Perfect for small spaces.
Cons: Not much bass, but did not expect much. Paired with a sub, these are great!

Princess "Feat". Tiny, Unchallenged, Beautiful.
JP from Homer, AK on 10/30/2018
Smaller than I thought they would be, squared off Coke can, maybe. I have seven 22's with Yamaha AV receiver and a Minx X301 subwoofer in a large room. 3 days of break in time is necessary. These speakers are at times, startlingly different than standard piston type drivers, in a good way. For music with acoustic instruments, the subtle overtones, harmonics and analog anomalies come very much alive and real. Vocalists sound more present in the room, and it is easier to listen for perfect pitch or error in the clarity. Brand new goose bumps even playing oldies. Even before break in, they already separate instruments better than many other speakers. It sounds like a different mix is playing on the Mins, and having worked many hours in recording studios, they sound like that. But, neutral, or studio sound is probably not what most people are accustomed to, we get used to what music sounds like on our previous systems. For electronic music, metal, movies, or other electrically generated sources, the Minx Mins are less different, you may miss the edge of a hard driven conventional speaker actually contributing dynamics of its own to harsh contrast moments. I have not heard pops or squeaks or odd sounds from the Minx Min 22's or 12's when pushed harder. Mins come with keyhole style, one screw in wall needed, bracket. Optional swivel mounts work well, too. Min 22's are tiny, prodigious, art furniture and relaxingly faithful. Nothing like them out there, no regrets!
Pros: Near theoretically small, but dynamic and unflinching for about any residential theater room. Seriously smooth and realistic sound. High end styling, finish and performance. Best yet for magically invisible sound! Blend well with tiny Minx subs. Mins are like musical instruments, not "speakers". Price is right for what they are and do. Crutchfield delivery and warranty makes this a solid buy for us. Look great, if you notice them!
Cons: First you have to break them in for days, then you get sucked in and have to listen to all your music collection again, and then you find yourself re-evaluating personal musical preferences. Wonderful, but a little disorienting. You've been warned!

Great sound from such a small package
Ron from Timonium, MD on 4/1/2018
Purchased these as I was downsizing to a condo and the living area is about a 19'x13' room. Bought 5, plus the Minx X201 subwoofer, and have been blown away at the quality and clarity of sound. Netflix streaming sounds great and music is also superb - excels at the high-end, but there is a full rich sound with the right amount of bass from the X201. Sound fills the whole room with plenty of output to spare. Other reviewers suggested a break-in period and I noticed it too - sound did improve after a few hours of use. Speakers fit nicely in an AV cabinet, and the mounting brackets that I purchased separately were great allowing me to adjust the satellites. I was skeptical that you could get such rich sound from small speakers like this, but now am just amazed and enjoying my purchase.
Pros: Great sound, fits in an AV cabinet, perfect for music + movies + streaming.
Cons: Minor break-in period, but worth the wait.

Great low profile speakers!
Renny from Medfield, MA on 3/15/2018
Great sounding speakers! These are the speakers for you if you don't have the space or just want a low profile look. I use these for right, left, and center channel and it sounds awesome! Make sure you match these with a good sub that matches the size of your room because there is some low end but not much. With a good sub it doesn't matter if these have a low end because the kids and Higgs are great. I'm using for home theater more than music.
Pros: Incredible sound for such small speakers! Footprint is very small! Very clear sound
Cons: Could use more low end - but with a sub it doesn't matter

Excellent quality speakers in a mini format
tom from Gig Harbor, WA on 10/18/2017
I replaced my Klipsch floor tower speakers with these minis to free up more space in my family room. The minis are paired with an old Yamaha subwoofer. The result -more space and a huge improvement in clarity and sound quality. My family room is approximately 20X14-these speakers do the job. I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend these speakers for anyone with space constraints.
Pros: High quality at a very reasonable price Clear high full sound

Spectacular sound given the small size. I'm completely pleased. These are the B speakers for a stereo arrangement where the A speakers in a different room are high-end B&Ws. The Minx aren't quite in the same class, but they're a fraction of the price, and they're pretty close in their sound quality. Amazing performance for a box this tiny. They're a little more costly than some other small bookshelf speakers, but worth it in my view.

Nice little speakers
Linda from Broadlands, VA on 2/14/2016
While we have a great home theater in our basement, the family room had been suffering with the television's built in speakers. In a word, they were awful. For the family room we wanted speakers that wouldn't physically dominate the room and these little cubes fit the job. We're using them for front and center speakers and will be adding two more for the surrounds shortly. They obviously don't go deep and in general, even when using small speakers I'd like them to go a bit deeper than these but the tradeoff for small size was worth it for us. The only downside is that they don't take regular banana plugs. I had to do some surgery on my speaker cables to hook them up.
Pros: - small size - sound great for their size
Cons: - can't use banana plugs
