Nice Upgrade
Mark from Prairie Village, KS on 5/9/2025
Cords wore out on my SR80's after 1K hours of listening, which I guess is fair. Went up to the SR225's and definitely noticed an improvement in the overall sound- greater refinement and detail, more spacious and resolving. Will definitely baby the heavy cords, which I'm told carry more information and generate a better signal.

Grado inferior construction
RUDOLF from PHOENIX, AZ on 6/8/2023
This one is a sort of upscale Grado on-the-ear. It was a replacement for a very crummy low-end on-the-ear Grado in the same class - same sound but terrible wiring. The cabling fell apart in no time. I just ate the cost, don't ask me why I didn't apply for a refund/return. I then ordered this unit as a replacement. It has the same fine sound but greatly beefed-up cabling as the cheapie Grado. BUT - in less than 1 year the headstrap loosened from one of the phones. The strap apparently was anchored by an internal pin thru a hole in the strap. This pin apparently broke away. So probably CHEAP PLASTIC! I glued the strap to the phone with epoxy & I hope it holds. I would advise against purchasing any Grado phones except if you want on-the-ear it seems they're the only upscale game in town.
Pros: Good sound
Cons: Fell apart in less than 1 year of careful use.

Grado SR225x
Mark from San Angelo, TX on 6/8/2023
I am in my late 60's and have been a Grado headphone fan for many years. IMO the SR225x is the ideal balance between cost and fidelity. It offers strong bass and and detailed upper ranges. It is easily driven with lower powered music sources, due to its lower impedance rating. It may be slightly less comfortable at first than other headphones, but the sound is bold and rich, and the cushions will break in some with usage. As with any good set of headphones, it really needs a 50-100 hour break-in period at normal volume levels to get the sound to open up, so don't try to judge their potential at first listen. If you don't have $500 plus to spend on a set of phones, do yours ears and wallet a favor and give the SR225x headphone an ear.

Fantastic headphones
Brennen Mich from Shepherdsville, KY on 2/12/2023
These headphones are a marked improvement from the sr80x. Some people complain about the foam cups on this model of Grados, but I can't really tell a difference. The metal strap is actually pretty malleable (in a good way), if the headphones feel too tight just bend the strap gently until it feels right.
Pros: Great sound quality. Great build quality. Impressive for movies and television too. Great bass for open back headphones.
Cons: Slightly uncomfortable after extended use.

I'm using the headphones mostly for practice at my Allen organ console at home. I've also tested it with my stereo system. Very nice, natural sound, solid construction. Pleased with purchase.

Sound is good, cords are big, bulky, heavy, not very user friendly. The cords also are not removable for storage. Once again the sound is good

They sound amazing but wish the ear pads were more comfortable.
Pros: The sound is great, good bass (not booming bass but perfect) and great mods and highs.
Cons: Ear pads are uncomfortable.

OK Grado!
John from Tehachapi, CA on 8/19/2021
Whoa! Andrea Motis and Melody Gardot never sounded like this before. Peel me a(nother) Grape, Diana Krall...a live microphone presence really is delivered through this SR225x headset. And now I know: 'enjoying the wider sound stage that others have reported. Also, now I understand what is meant by "a tight bass presence"...live percussion sounds, small venue accuracy. Oddly, I'm hearing extra details of the Bakersfield Sound artists, Lisa Sanders, and Sting as well. OK Grado, you really are making something special here. 'Me a happy, Grado/Crutchfield customer over here.
Pros: The wide sound stage & microphone presence, simply designed, definitely sturdy and well made headset.
Cons: New out of the box, the woven cord is a little bit stiff. I have a lot of collected music to re-listen to with this headset.
