2009 Honda Element
Did not work. The instructions provided by iDatalink's application don't actually explain what the wires do, and so I was left guessing which were signal wires and what the signals were supposed to be. To start with, there was no setup on the setup application that exactly matched my car's trim package. So it's possible that this will never work with my car. Regardless, I picked the closest setup to my car. When I hooked the box up according to the color code in the instructions... it would activate the Voice Command feature every 2 minutes or so, and the first time I turned on the headlights, it blew the fuse for the dash lights and running lights. (So I was driving at night with no tail lights or dash lighting.) I double checked the install. Everything was setup as described in the instructions, and I confirmed the setup via an independent schematic (the "mystery" wire on the controller was connected to the "K Wire" in the wiring harness.) After removing the control adapter, fuses stopped blowing, and my radio stopped trying to activate voice command mode. I'd be a lot happier if the wires were actually labeled and if this thing had a "learn" mode for cars with trim packages not in their pre-defined database.

I was able to get this to work briefly to control the stereo volume but when I shut the car off and back on again it stopped working. My Kenwood DMX129BT works great and I'm happy with it as is and can live without the steering wheel controls. I just wish I hadn't wasted the money on the iDatalink Maestro SW. I should've bought a new pair of front speakers instead.

Garbage for Honda CRZ. iDatalink installation documentation unclear and incomplete. Default configuration for steering wheel controls do not work well. I had to dumb down the options manually to the most basic capabilities and then manually configure the head unit to match. In addition, the phone control buttons on the steering wheel do not work at all. Look elsewhere for maintaining your controls when installing in a Honda CRZ

This device works great. Installed in a 2004 Infiniti G35. It was very simple to program and customize the buttons. It is also very small. I was able to place it where it is easily accessible by removing the shifter trim, for future programming changes.

2007 Hyundai Sonata
I had this for about four months and it's a terrible product. It's only marginally better than not having steering wheel controls and you'd be better off saving your pennies to buy one of iDatalink's higher end SWC adapters. Not worth the retail price in the slightest; I would've returned it if I hadn't needed to splice it into my stereos main harness. While it worked well enough for the first week or so, it went downhill quick. When it was cold outside the SWC would sometimes not work at all until it warmed up. It would intermittently stop working in the middle of a drive, regardless of length or temperature. About 5/10 times I started the car a random variety of the steering audio controls wouldn't work until I completely shut off the car and restarted it. The skip/return buttons had to be held down for a couple seconds to work and pausing/playing music didn't work at all. Half of the special actions I set in the flashing software didn't work, which wasn't a big deal for how old my car is. The only redeeming quality (the extra star) was how easy the software was to use and that it was easy to install in my vehicle. Even then, you have to create an account with iDatalink just to use the software. I do NOT recommend this product to anyone for any price. If absolutely need SWC in your car then you can afford to save a up for an actual quality adapter. Don't even bother with this device, though the brand has other good products.

This is outstanding! I first tried using a CRUX steering wheel control adapter, and it just wasn't helpful. After trying that, I used this and was thoroughly impressed! It is easy to look up your vehicle make and model and flash the computer inside so it functions with your existing steering wheel controls! I highly recommend this if you're trying to maintain steering wheel controls.

I bought this unit for my truck on direct recommendation from Crutchfield and the iDatalink website NO LONGER provides installation instructions for my vehicle. I had to go to YouTube and the Internet to find guys who had challenges like I did trying to install this unit. The Crutchfield instructions were wrong and the clarity of what was simply trying to locate one wire on the B-harness was all I needed. This unit was useless without the Internet.

Good , It works just not worth hardwiring it buy one of there upper end models they normally sell adapters for your car even if Crutchfield does not you can normally find the matching harness online. The wires on your facrorry harness are so thin its easy to cut into them even if you try to follow there vedio and use the right wire stripper , i ended up utting two of mine out of the 3 i needed to expose . Just pay the 200 bucs

I paired this w/ the Sony XAV-AX4000 on my 05 Odyssey w/ RES+NAV. Had multiple problems: 1) Online instructions are incorrect. Correct instructions are linked in the app. 2) You must download an app to your computer, create an online account, and THEN you can get SW for your device 3) Only some buttons work by default 4) Maestro Tech Support is only available limited hours and days. 5) Maestro Tech Support offered a solution that still left a handful of buttons not working.

Plug and play this is not. You had to take it into your computer, download software, find your car make, flash it, and then there was about five or six wires that you had attached to the wiring harness. I could only get the volume down button to work. I called the company who by the way was not nearly as friendly and helpful as Crutchfield. A matter fact, they were borderline rude. So, the steering wheel control don't work. Crutchfield was awesome very helpful. My grandson had to go back to Tennessee, so I couldn't try to fix it.

Did not work well in my 2009 Honda Ridgeline RTL. Volume down button was sometimes non-responsive. The only buttons that worked properly were the Volume up and Source buttons. Setup and Flashing process was easy and instructions provided were good.

2010 Honda Fit Sport
This is my second Maestro that I ordered for my Honda Fit. It was challenging to get them programmed, but I was able to do so with the green light confirming all was programmed and the provision of a card summarizing the controls. But, in both cases the volume up wouldn't work in that capacity. In the first case the volume up worked as a channel changer, in the second one the volume up did nothing at all. I sort of wonder if the problem may be in the steering wheel, but in any case I need to turn the volume up with the controls on my Boss receiver, the good is that I can turn the volume down on the steering wheel.
Pros: The volume down works as does the input selection too.

2010 CRV w/ Factory NAV & Bluetooth Difficult

2010 Honda CRV with Factory NAV and Bluetooth was a challenge. Steering control is good after you find the wires to tap into. The Crutchfield wiring guide was poor as it didn't identify the need to tap into three additional wires in the car (2 were from the main factory harness - Brown and Pink) and the real challenge was finding the factory Bluetooth module which contained the blue wire that I needed. It is located inside the center console on the passenger side. You may need to remove sides and the front and top cover to access it. You may be able to access (shifter cover plate) by just removing the top plate but you will need to route your tap wire back to the stereo. When the shifter top trim plate is removed you can remove two 10mm bolts from above and it comes out with plenty of room to tap the blue wire. The second tech that I talked to was very helpful and got me going in the right direction.
Pros: Works great when wired up
Cons: The Bluetooth Module location is tough to tap into but not impossible once you know how to do it. Poor Crutchfield wiring instructions. It's noteworthy to mention that the Pink wire that's needed from the main factory stereo harness has the PIN number wrong. It is in the bottom of the connector but not in the correct pin location. If you found the pink wire on the bottom row, you are correct.

Didn't have the radio I selected as an option on its Flashing Software (Kenwood KDC-BT382U). I had to go through a trial and error process to figure out a radio in the software that would work with the radio I have, and I still haven't figured it out.

Cons: - Doesn't have every radio in the software - the 'universal radio' option didn't work - there is delay between button press and feedback from the radio

I'd give it 0 stars if I could. My Boss unit isn't even supported yet by the Maestro swc, supposedly my Boss model is new. I can't believe Crutchfield recommended and sold me this swc if it does't support my model Boss. Crutchfield tech support has been good, available 7 days a week, all 3 I talked to have been great, they were able to make suggestions that got 95% of the swc working, but not really good enough. The iDatalink support folks are rude and zero help. I will not buy any iDatalink products in the future. For 100% of my swc to work, I have to wait for my Boss model to be supported and then reflash the swc.

Placed in a 2003 Nissan Altima with a JVC-V660bt radio. Flashing the unit was fast and easy. I don't understand why the company makes me create an account and log into their desktop installed application. That's a fairly obnoxious move and I wavered on 4 or 5 stars just for that. It works as intended though. I had to get a replacement unit, the first one never worked. It flashed fine, and after attaching it to the head unit and car it was receiving signal from the wires but wasn't transmitting to the stereo. Crutchfield support spent just a few minutes asking me questions, perhaps facilitated by the fact that I had already tested with my Ohm meter, and sent me out a replacement. I didn't replace any wires, just plugged the harnesses from the first unit into the newly flashed replacement and everything worked. I don't know what the other options are, but I'd buy this one again.
Pros: Easy to set up, works as intended, small enough to not take up a huge amount of room behind the head unit.
Cons: Flash software is a desktop application that requires account creation and a log-in. First unit received was defective.

I couldn't get this unit to work on my Honda Element. There are only two signal wires, and then power and ground, and I ensure it was wired correctly. I could not get the volume up button to work no matter how I flashed it. Verified it was not the buttons on the steering wheel becuase I flashed it to use the mode button for volume up. The mode button worked fine when flashed to change modes, but when I flashed it to do volume up, didn't work. Gave it three stars as the flashing software is nice and easy to use, and the instructions were good.

Easy enough to set up but unsure if problem with headunit or adapter itself; sterring wheel controls barely work during the 2 years I've had the device. Initially worked fine, started noticing after a few months that controls were flat out not working. Occasionally after driving awhile they will come back, or if they were working initially will cut out. Sometimes controls will also be opposite of what i bound them to do (volume up would skip song, volume down would increase levels". Would not recommend.

I had and still am having issues with this. I cannot completely blame the product because its core functionality is there, but it randomly reset after about a week of using it which required ripping my dashboard apart again to access it. This was after a less-than-straightforward installation process that required a phone call to a very helpful Crutchfield Support Agent. Today, there must be a loose connection (I must point out the possibility of poor soldering or other mistakes on my end) because the SWCs will randomly go berzerk. Vol+ becomes Vol- and Vol- becomes Siri? It happens frequently but irregularly. Not sure of the cause.
Pros: It works, mostly! In-depth personalizations using the Windows/Mac app, they also mostly work!
Cons: See semi-sarcastic 'Pros'. What the product is meant to do is very good, but it doesn't do that very consistently Setup isn't phenomenal. Connectivity issues with the MicroUSB-to-PC connection. Instructions for my car weren't correct, but didn't hinder the installation process

Works like a charm! Pretty straight forward use. Could help to have a bit more instruction about OEM wire colors but I'm sure that would be a novel. The cavity in the dash was large enough to hide this tiny box. The programming was easy. And, it has plenty of length of wire so you could trim down to your specific application. Glad to be able to maintain steering wheel controls!

I was hesitant to buy this product because I just expected it to "feel" aftermarket. I was pleasantly surprised that the setup (using a Windows PC) and installation into the vehicle were very easy. Once you program the unit it generates two pages; one showing which wires to connect where (including pin location and wire color) and the other is a cheat sheet for what your button presses do, both short and long press. My vehicle (2001 Lincoln Continental) required only one input wire for operation along with the power and ground. The wire harness did not include a wire on the pin for the input but I was able to move an unused pin on the harness to connect to this module which saved me splicing into the factory wire harness. In the photo you can see that I was able to program all of the buttons from the original radio. It's nice being able to assign a short and long press option, essentially doubling your buttons. I used "Next" for track advance. I used "Mode" to activate Google/Siri when using Android Auto or Carplay. Volume Up and Down work normally on short press. Volume Down on long press mutes the radio.

2011 Honda CR-Z
Worked as desired on my 2011 CRZ base model. Its annoying how expensive it is, and it was annoying having to register an account and download laptop software in order to program it, but all in all it didnt take too long to do it, and makes programming the buttons very intuitive. If you decide to change what the buttons do you can reflash the unit to your liking which is cool. There are only a couple buttons on my car anyways so I only had to tap 2 wires in the factory harness. The vehicle specific instructions walked me through it perfectly. I highly recommend using the Posi-products Tap It wire connectors to do this, to safely puncture the tiny wires on the factory harness. The rest you can connect easily to the head unit harness that you are wiring up already anyways. Overall works great.

Works perfectly with a Boss BE7ACP and a 2008 Honda Accord. Easy wizard-driven programming when hooked up to your computer through USB.

This unit is awesome. Being able to use my steering wheel controls with an aftermarket unit make the experience so much nicer! Programming the unit was super easy, user friendly, and they showed you exactly which wires to tap into. I'm extremely happy with this.

2009 Honda Accord
I installed this in my son's 2009 Honda Accord. Originally I purchased the Crux SWC interface, but the Crux just would not work w this car. (I used the Crux on 2 other vehicles with no problems). Crutchfield tech support was absolutely phenomenal throughout the whole process!! The Maestro SW worked perfectly. You do need to splice some wires from the Maestro to the wiring harness; on the iDatalink website are the wiring instructions on how to do this. (In my case it was only 4 wires). Also, before installing you need go to their website to 'flash' the Maestro, but this is not hard at all. Overall, the Maestro is a little more work, but also more customized compared the Crux.
Pros: Customization of the steering wheel button functions
Cons: Additional steps needed (flashing the Maestro and splicing some wires) compared to Crux

Just installed this, but it's working great. I was a little put off by the fact that one had to register on-line for the app in order to access the easiest way to configure it. However, once you got the app it was incredibly easy to configure. And there are so many options. The true test will be years from now (will it still be working?) but today - it's great.

The iDatalink Maestro worked beautifully with my 2013 Mazda MX-5 and Kenwood head unit. The car didn't originally have steering wheel controls: I obtained a set from an old Mazda CX-7 and transferred them to the Miata. The installation was straight forward and the programming was easy.

2015 Honda CR-Z
I wanted to keep my steering wheel controls after installing a new head unit in my Honda CR-Z. Crutchfield suggested the iDatalink Maestro SW. Although confusing at first glance, after reading all the instruction (and asking Crutchfield customer support a couple of questions) the install was straight ahead and the unit worked first time. I used a little self adhesive Velcro patch to secure the unit within the dash so it wouldn't bounce around. Although I used the stock programing, there are lots of ways to reprogram the steering buttons to function in different ways if you so choose. Nice little feature.

Cons: not an intuitive install, so read the instructions!

I guess it is my fault for not doing more research before I bought it but it turns out this unit is not compatible with the Sony radio I bought. I tried to flash it for a newer and older version both but I still get the same glitch, sometimes it works perfectly and other times the volume acts like I'm holding the button up or down and I even lose control of the volume on the Sony.

Wow! Just, wow! So, I replaced the factory stereo in a 2004 Honda Odyssey. Before I begin, let me provide the following disclaimer.I should've verified the controls worked on the van before I started the entire project, but I did not. So, with that said it was a super easy install, literally plug and play. The software download and flash of the module was easy. You assign double functions to the switches. For instance my up volume switch is assigned to do that and answer the phone. Channel select/seek is that and also bring up Siri. Down volume does that and hangs up the phone. However, it did not function as I anticipated. Up volume and channel select did nothing except bring up Siri. Down volume raised the volume. Some troubleshooting revealed a dirty ground on the steering wheel under the airbag. I cleaned that up with a nail file and voila! Everything functions as it should. I should add this is a known issue on older Odysseys and the fix took less than thirty minutes.

Doesn't work with BOSS BE950WCPA in a 2017 Kia Forte with steering wheel audio controls. I tried everything. The radio model isn't in the iDatalink database. Contacted Crutchfield, BOSS, iDAtalink. Crutchfield tells me it should work. It doesn't. BOSS says it isn't compatible. iDatalink says it isn't compatible. The best I could get is partial functionality including Mute, Volume Up, Preset+, Preset-, Answer Call, Hang Up Call. The rest of the buttons cannot be programmed and they are: Volume Down, Mode. Seek and Track functions could never be added. Mode. Pressing Volume Down selects Band AM/FM. Hope this helps someone.

Works as it should but the instructions on where the Bluetooth module was located in my Honda cr-z was completely wrong. I also called Crutchfield support and the representatives didn't know either. I ended up wasting a good amount of time looking for it in the location specified until I finally decided that they might've gotten the location wrong and eventually found this information in a forum.( It's by the glove compartment very close to the passenger's door btw, not at the center dash like it was specified on the instructions) A recommendation would be for the Crutchfield or iDatalink Maestro to have the vehicle's maintenance manual available or at least offer it for sale on the website.

Works to maintain steering wheel control, but didn't come with any wiring instructions or wiring connectors. It took multiple calls to technicians and trying multiple configurations before we determined that I needed to T-splice into the existing car wiring (instead of using the wiring harness that I purchased). Flashing it to your vehicle is easy, and once it's wired properly it works great - just make sure you know how to wire it properly.

If you have steering wheel radio buttons, and you are also getting a head unit without a volume knob, you especially will want to keep the steering wheel controls, even if you never used them with the old factory radio.
Pros: Two ways to connect to head unit, plug or wire-in. Plug is easier if your head unit has it.
Cons: Requires splicing into factory harness to tap wires to steering wheel buttons unless you can add more wires to you interface connector.

Worked great in my 2006 Toyota Tundra Double Cab with my Alpine iLX-W650. Easy to customize and add additional long press features make it more useful than the original. Must be programmed for your application and custom features. I had a little trouble figuring out the software install on my Mac laptop.

When I first connected the Maestro SW to my Windows 10 computer, their proprietary software would not connect. I tried different micro USB cables that I knew were working and would still not connect in the software, even though when I checked Window's device manager it was showing up. Luckily, I also had a MacBook pro and it instantly connected with their Mac software. If you find you cannot connect, try different computers. Not sure if another Windows 10 computer would have worked as I believe that their Windows software is buggy. When in the software, I attempted to choose the Sony XAV-AX150, however I believe the stereo is too new as it did not show up in the stereo selection list. I chose the Sony XAV-AX5000 instead, a very similar stereo, and all of the steering wheel controls worked.

2010 Honda Pilot
Vehicle Type: 2010 Honda Pilot w/o factory navigation and Bluetooth. Maestro instruction is very vague and confusing. Wiring diagram (page 2) says to connect Maestro's pink/red wire to car's white wire to pin #2 found on Connector B (28 pins) but the said connector doesn't exist on my car. The drawing they provided doesn't even have the details of the PIN numbers-it was just a blank drawing of a connector. I had to put the old stereo back in until I get this thing sorted out. What a waste of time!!

Works a treat! All of my steering wheel controls in my 2015 Subaru WRX work well and I loved the ability to code in custom functions with the firmware flash. It actually IMPROVED the functionality of the controls. Installation instructions were less than stellar, but a few Google searches had me set in the right direction. If there was one thing I had to nitpick, it would be the necessity to create an account and download a program to flash this thing rather than imaging it from a downloadable file and simple executable... that aspect feels entirely unnecessary to me.

2014 Mitsubishi Outlander
This was a good product and works fine with the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander's stock steering wheel functions. I do wish there was an available pin set on the harness so that you didn't have to cut any wires in order to make it function, but that's not eh adapters fault. A little complicated in that there's no real manual and all the setup has to be done by flashing the controller, but as long as you're aware of that before you start, it works well enough.

Does not function all that great, It seems like the Skip forward function does not work with my headunit or my steering wheel controls. The green light flickers when you push to ski the track, but it doesn't actually skip. Volume up, Down and skip back all work its just the one function.

2005 Kia Sorento EX
Crutchfield sold this unit to me as "compatible" with my '05 Kia Sorento and Boss Elite BE10ACP stereo, but after my audio tech flashed it the wiring diagram page came up blank. He contacted Maestro support and wired the unit per their instructions, but due to the design of the floating head stereo it couldn't be tested until fully installed. Turns out that the steering wheel controls don't work, and it will cost me 4 times the cost of this unit to have him troubleshoot and/or remove the unit. I have since had a different tech inform me that Maestro is NOT compatible with Boss products, and that it never should have been sold as such. I'm extremely disappointed in Crutchfield and Maestro for wasting my money.

Pretty easy to splice in with t taps. You may think not having steering controls is fine, but you'll miss it without it especially if the point of them is to keep your hands on the wheel while driving.

The bomb. It was easy to program online and through USB. It does exactly what I asked it to do. Love the versatility. I was able to double my button power since you can program long press functions as well as normal. Well worth the cost.

Cons: Would not allow me to program steering wheel buttons to fire rockets or mute people in the car with me.

I opted for this adapter over the one that was suggested because i wanted to have the feature of programming my buttons rather than having them defaulted. Programming went great, wasn't too difficult at all. initially i added a stereo off delay to my headunit, and learned that when the accessory power goes off, this unit causes the stereo to input it as volume up. So after turning off my car, my stereo volume would keep increasing until the stereo powered off. I mounted this unit behind the stereo with some double sided foam tape.

Love the fact that you can maintain your steering wheel controls for about $30. This was a sale price I believe. Here is why I'm giving it a 4 start and not a 5. The stereo installation took about an hour and that included me soldering all of my connections to the provided wiring harnesses. The Maestro SW1 programing was very clear and easy as long as you have some computer knowledge. The wiring documentation provided with the Maestro was not clear at all and it required me calling into Crutchfield Tech support 2 times. Awesome Tech Support Crutchfield!!!!. I have attached the 2 diagrams provided by Crutchfield just incase it helps someone else. This is for a 2006 Nissan Altima without the Factory Bose stereo.
Pros: Love the features once its installed and working.
Cons: poor wiring instructions included. having a 3rd wiring harness would have prevented a lot of confusion.

I installed high end car audio in the 90's for competitions so I know just a bit about this stuff. The Maestro is COMPLETE Junk... didn't work at all.... I followed the directions... what directions there were.... Maestro paperwork sucked outside of telling you how to connect it to the computer, their web site... On top of this the Maestro web site didn't have the JVC KD T915bts listed... they had the T910bts... Mot sure why Crutchfield paired this with the unit I bought... I clicked and did what it instructed but nothing would download and when I connected it to the receiver via the crutchfield harness the radio said the device was not supported. If you want your original steering controls to work buy something other than this....

I had installed this on a 2009 Lexus RX and the installation was quite a breeze. All information was in the downloaded application. Programming was easy and I think the wiring just takes a little bit of time but nothing really hard. It works flawlessly after that, it's awesome that you can program a button to mute or answer calls, etc. Love it!

Don't bother. Just face the fact you're going to lose volume control from your steering wheel. Once support for installation leaves Crutchfield and the "help" is placed in a different company's hands, forget it. I called support and they didn't even answer the phone, just rang. Installation instructions just as well be in a foreign language. Do yourself a favor, purchase a device with an easy volume knob and call it a day.

Did Not Work for My Car

I'll start off by saying that the Maestro SW is easy to program with the supplied USB cable. I was disappointed when I discovered that it was unlikely to work with my car. The issue I ran into was that the vehicle-specific instructions for my car and configuration (2017 Sentra, non-Bose, display audio w/o navigation) were incorrect. I had a wiring diagram for my factory radio to compare with the diagram from idatalink. The factory diagram showed my steering wheel controls on a different connector that what the idatalink diagram showed. I would suggest finding the wiring diagram for your car and looking at the vehicle-specific instructions for this product before you buy it. Doing so will likely save you some trouble.

You jump through hoops to configure this using a web interface or downloaded program but in the end it's all good. The extra functions available by holding the buttons are basically useless - no way to remember what was configured and printing a wallet card - really? I'm not going to stop the car and pull out my wallet to see what a button does if I hold it. I'm not going to read a wallet card while driver either - not safe. The custom documentation that the application created to match my car's wheel with the new car stereo was pretty cool. However, one of the wires described for the SW did not match the description of the car's wiring. It was the only unmatched pair so it had to be correct, and it was, but there was a period of concern.

Ok my 2015 Forte5 the Maestro worked just as described!! It was so easy to set up! In fact the default settings worked just fine for my car. I really wish it could take advantage of my factory stock microphone.

This was not recommended for my 2005 Toyota Tundra, but the manufacture listed it as compatible and I wanted to be able to easily reprogram the steering wheel buttons. Initially updated/flashed via my computer before installing, and when installed I left the USB pigtail attached and mounted the control adapter so the USB was easily accessible. I reflashed the control adapter several times until I was happy with the button programming. I had one episode where the flash did not take and had to reprogram the adapter. I found it was best to have everything powered down, flash the memory, disconnect the USB cable before powering up the ignition and testing the buttons. Follow the directions carefully, there is only a single wire that is used for transmitting the button commands from the adapter to Kenwood radios. It is a 4 pin plug, but I removed the 3 other wires and pins.
Pros: Flexible and easily programmed, but requires a computer and downloading their software. There can be quite a few firmware updates, which may expand on its functions. May have more button programming options and/or the ability to program the buttons differently then the factory settings when using basic adapters.
Cons: Limited button commands are available, not sure if this was a limitation of the adapter or the allowable commands to Kenwood car radios. A bit difficult at first to figure out details about the adapter programming and available button programming functions w/o going to their website.

Easy to install and retained factory controls

Easy enough to flash the unit. Just download the software and fire it up. Select your car year make model and headunit make and model then on to mapping the commands to the buttons. The flashing process didn't take more than a minute. After getting it connected and headunit powered on I started testing all the buttons. Took off a star because I noticed with my particular firmware (not sure if others have this issue), the off hook and on hook buttons were swapped meaning I had to press the end call to answer and vice versa. After reflashing with the revised mapping, all the controls worked perfectly. Be sure to test all the buttons prior to reassembling the dash!

I bought this unit for a 2012 Nissan Titan that I replaced the radio in. It is very simple to flash. I did have to call iDataLink support because I didn't see the harness that was in the instructions provided. It turns out that there was another option for harnesses and wire colors for my Titan. I was on the phone for 5 minutes, and with their information, I was up and running in no time. I have full function of all the steering wheel controls in my truck. Also, a nice feature is the ability to add another function to a button by pressing and holding it. This is as simple is selecting an option for the button during the flashing process. Very satisfied.

More Complicated Than You I Realized...

Perhaps it's unfair for me to give this only 2 stars when I am unable to install it into my vehicle. But I purchased this adaptor thinking that it was going to be an easier part of the install and I was wrong. The wiring itself throughout the vehicle was confusing and the instructions were not the most clear. This is coming from a guy who install four door speakers, a new 7" touchscreen head unit and Rockford Fosgate subwoofer... I think I definitely understand more than the average person in this area- and this was too challenging for me. Turns out, in order for certain wires to be connected to the adaptor, we didn't have the tools or expertise to connect them.

Although the steering wheel controls in my older car are fewer, they still work following the install of a new head unit. I was even able to change the functionality of the buttons and add the ability to answer an incoming phone call, plus hang it up. Great product and glad Crutchfield suggested it while I was going through the order process for the new head unit.
Pros: Easy install, easy flash process, ability to change SW controls if desired.
Cons: The only issue during the install related to the wiring harness of the Accessory (red) and Ground (black) wires. The instructions could have been a bit clearer for a novice installer as to how to tie these into the main wire harness. This could be a simple update to the instructions.

I was a little hesitant about installing this having never done it before. The instructions were easy to understand and I like the ability to program buttons on the steering wheel to have multiple functions for a short press or hold of the button. Has been working great since installed and was easy to stick it somewhere behind the dash where it won't rattle around.

2004 Lexus RX330
The Maestro is a great add on when upgrading from an older factory unit to a new GPS/sound system. Easy to install and easy to program. Worked well in allowing me to retain the factory steering wheel controls of my 2004 Lexus RX330. I highly recommend this unit to anyone wanting to keep their factory controls when upgrading.

Although it gave me some trouble in the beginning... (you may need to try more than once to get the system to sync correctly) - It is workign great now and was pretty easy to install!

Was able to keep steering wheel controls for my 2005 Honda CR-V EX. Was really simple to program. Install directions from idatalink, to me, was confusing, so I called Crutchfield and Mark Smith walked me through it and couldn't be more grateful.

I'm very impressed with the ease of setting this unit up and how seamless it was to integrate. It did require downloading their application to my desktop machine to program, but the interface was easy to use and worked quickly. When I connected it in the vehicle everything just worked like it should!

Works great unless it sit for a couple min. Then it seems to timeout and won't work until you turn the key off then back on. However the secondary functions obd2 will keep working after the volume has timed out.

I was hoping to get this working with the steering wheel for my Acura TL but to no avail. I downloaded the correct flash for it. I made sure it connected the correct wires which was not fun at all because of limited wire at the factory harness you need to splice into. After 5 hrs, I gave up and figured I don't need the steering wheel controls.

Cons: On one occasion, the maestro installation guide gave me the wrong wire color to splice into. After calling maestro they recommended I try a different wire (The one for the non-factory-amplifed option) and it worked great. This problem was on a Kia Amanti, not a very common car and I was told that they would contact the necessary people to update their software. Awesome product.

Easy to program. Still had to call tech support on vehicle wiring connections, as the instructions from iDatalink were a little murky. It works though! I don't know if its the unit or the steering wheel rocker switch, but the volume is a little touchy at times. Sometimes it goes up one level with a push, sometimes its 5 levels, sometimes it goes all the way up! Still trying to figure that one out. But its better than not having them at all.

Worked great for keeping the steering wheel functions in my '08 Honda Element. Since there was no factory bluetooth system in the car, it was nice that you can customize the existing buttons on the to do multiple functions by pressing and holding down the buttons. That along with the new Pioneer AVH 2550NEX system bring my old car up to modern infotainment standards.

My cars trim didn't come with steering wheel controls but other trim levels did so I was able to buy the steering wheel control switch from a higher trim car and use this adapter to pair it with the Alpine ILX-W650 stereo. The adapter was easy to program and all of the buttons are functioning properly. I wasn't sure if it would work since my car didn't come with it but this adapter made everything 10x easier than it could have been. Now I can answer calls, use siri and control my musics volume. If you want to retain your steering wheel controls you definitely need this.

My radio is too new so the firmware wasn't there for it, but from what I can see the firmware is the same for the last three radios that are listed when I look for Pioneer DMH models as my radio is the Pioneer DMH-220EX. I still don't have all the controls working but the main ones for the radio work whilst the phone side is iffy. Hopefully the firmware gets updated soon so I can gain full control from my steering wheel as before.
Pros: Volume and track skip work great, even the changing of the source works.
Cons: Phone side doesn't work that well with iPhone 11 Pro Max

The need to use Internet Explorer (as opposed to Microsoft Edge) is not mentioned in any of the instructions for downloading the necessary software to the device. Instead you get an error message stating Active X and Adobe (something) cannot be found. When I called Crutchfield, the technician walked me through the process which helped a great deal. On the plus side, the device did hook up to my 2005 Ford Five Hundred Steering Wheel Controls.
Pros: Crutchfield support was thorough and patient.
Cons: Need clearer instructions for downloading software (need to use Internet Explorer).

So Crutchfield does say that it is compatible with the 2018 WRX premium w/o Harmon. I have hooked everything up and when I initially tested it worked and I thought it was good but the very next day it's got a mind of its own. Volume up will randomly become next track and next track button will do nothing. It's very sporadic, and seems like the steering controls become randomized.

Works great once installed. The website is a little clunky have to use a certain browser to be able to get to the flash procedure. Instructions were good however they could've been more clear. Instructions should also identify the wires on the 20 pin plug for accessory and ground.

2018 BASE WRX 6.2" Factory Deck (28-Pin Input) -- Not Supported.

2018 Subaru WRX (BASE) with 6.2" Screen. iDatalink apparently does not support the 2018 WRX BASE (Crutchfield says it is compatible); apparently idatalink does support the 2018 if it has the Harmon Kardon factory system. Not sure why. I tried flashing the module with the firmware designated for a 2017 & 2019 BASE, as well as for a 2018 with Harmon Kardon, but it made no difference. At this point, my back-up camera works, and some of the steering wheel buttons do "things," but not all of them do something, and the ones that do "things" don't do what they are supposed to. I tried just removing the Maestro SW entirely, but then I lost the Backup camera. So, I put it back in and tried programming the buttons based on what they actually do, vs. what they are named in the firmware program. For example, I designated Volume up Button to be "Change Source," and then in the car, Volume up will actually change the volume up. That's the only one I was able to make work at this point, unfortunately. I'd return this, except then I'd lose the back-up camera - so I guess I'm just stuck with no steering wheel buttons. Also went to a LOT of extra work to install this, and had to buy a special 28-pin harness adapter (which Crutchfield offers, but says is not compatible with my car), as well as a 12v to 6v converter to power the back-up camera. If I had this to do all over, I would have just bought a new 2019 WRX with factory Harmon Kardon and CarPlay ins

The harness on this requires 2 pins for connecting to the 2006 Ford F150 harness in position PIN 18 and 19 when mated to the Metra 24PIN Ford harness. Neither harness comes with extra pins. I guess I should direct my annoyance at Crutchfield for not indicating that additional pins are needed for this installation. Too bad it's after hours.

This works as expected, but I found if I make multiple quick channel or track changes the system locks up until the car turns off and then on again. Still that's better than having no steering wheel control available. Nice product and I'd consider buying it again. Crutchfields advice on this was helpful--they really do want to help and know car stereo wiring well.

Excellent product and works as expected. It offers extra features like what should each button do when you hold them instead of just press. That is as good as giving me 8 functions on otherwise a 4 button control. Awesome product and the setup / flashing was a breeze.

No details provided on where/how to hook up the unit to the vehicle. You will have to visit I datalink website to flash the unit for your vehicle. They will then provide a generic wiring diagram for you specific vehicle, but no actual instructions on where/how to locate the wiring harness that you are supposed to splice into. So, without a vehicle specific wiring diagram, this unit is pretty much worthless.

Works pretty well once installed. The setup instructions were lacking in detail. I couldn't figure out where to connect one of the wires and after calling crutchfield support (they're great!), I learned that I had to cut a wire from the car's harness and splice that to the wire on this unit. Didn't turn out to be a big deal at the end but wasn't clear at all from the set up instructions that that's what I had to do. The firmware programming was pretty straight forward and everything worked as advertised.

I got this to use the steering wheel controls with our 2011 Honda odyssey, and I'll start off by saying that it does work, so in the end I'm satisfied. That's where the satisfaction ends, though. I paid extra for Crutchfield to wire the harness , which they did correctly, as much as they could do. After flashing the firmware, you get some vehicle-specific 'instructions,' except they were awful and probably hurt more than they helped. The Connector diagrams were confusing and inaccurate. Thankfully, the rock-star customer service at Crutchfield came through and saved the day. J.P. spent about a half hour on the phone cross referencing the instructions with those of two other devices and we finally figured it out. If it wasn't for JP I would have given up and sent the thing back. Moral of the story: Crutchfield Awesome. Maestro - dismal.

I installed this in a 2005 Acura TL with a Pioneer AVH-2550NEX DVD Receiver and it works wonderfully. I was able to retain my steering wheel controls which was a plus for me. Now my vehicle feels like it is new with a modern head unit.
Pros: Internet programming made if easy to flash the controls I wanted for each steering wheel button.
Cons: For the TL I had to run a wire from the original Bluetooth harness located above the rear view mirror to the iDatalink Maestro in my dash.

I paid a little extra for Crutchfield to do the wire connections for me. Other than a little programming on the computer, it was just plug and play. Programming is simple, and crutchfield does send you with easy step by step instructions.

Install instructions should have clearly stated from the beginning that: 1) unit needs to be flashed 2) additional wiring needs to be completed by the user by attaching 2 wires (brown and yellow) on the factory harness to the corresponding steering wheel control wires on the ADS-MSW harness as specified in the wiring diagram.........This would have avoided a phone call to support

This device works as advertised but it is not for a novice installer, and in fairness, that's stated on the packaging. You'll need to use the supplied cable to attach it to your computer, register an account, and flash the firmware to configure for your car and stereo. Also, in my case only a couple of wires needed to be connected to the harness, but I had to identify them carefully, snip them away from the factory harness, and connect into the harness for this device. Go slow and be careful. The good news is it works like a champ!
Pros: Worked perfectly, even allows for some customization of steering wheel controls
Cons: Slightly challenging install, you'll need to flash the firmware and probably need to carefully identify some wires and cut the away from your existing wire harness without damaging the others. Take your time and call Crutchfield if you're stumped.

To anyone reviewing this product and giving one star for the fact it does not program with an iMac, read instructions before you buy next time. Crutchfield clearly states that it is only Windows compatible. As far as programming goes, it is one of the most streamline processes. You can give a single button multiple functions which really adds variety to your wheel functions, while maintaining your factory controls you are used to. Note: you will most likely have to do some wiring yourself (to the vehicles system) for this product to work. I am a novice to automotive sound systems and it took me 10 minutes to wire so, nothing too major to worry about. If worse comes to worse, call Crutchfield customer service, I had an issue with connecting the parking brake wire from my Pioneer 1400 NEX to my vehicle and a technician talked me through it and everything is working great! Thank you Crutchfield, I am a very happy customer and plan on returning very soon.
Pros: Easy programming process on a Windows system. Multiple-function button programming adds new-car dimension to an older vehicle. Very easy to follow wiring instructions. Kept all off the factory controls on my wheel while adding even more.
Cons: Not iMac compatible which was a bit of a roadblock since that is my go-to system, but I made sure I had a Windows system before even buying this product.

I would definitely buy this product again. I think it's worth spending a little extra to keep steering wheel controls. You will have to connect this device to your computer to set it to your car model (flash the device) but don't let that intimidate you. It's an "advanced beginner" installation and your Crutchfield tech support agent can help you if you need it.

I would give it a no star but it won't let me. On my second head unit. The first Kenwood they said there was something funky with the way Kenwood programmed it. Didn't work at all. The second unit. Also a Kenwood, won't work either. It's frustrating. Especially since they even have my current one listed to pick to flash on their site. UPDATED 5/6/19: I had originally left a bad review. I admit, what I was complaining about not working was MY FAULT! I neglected to connect one of the wires. I will take 99% of the blame. The other 1% goes to the instructions. Yes, the connection for the wire I neglected to connect was there on the schematic, but wasn't very clear to me at least. I had all the other wiring done as it should be. The Crutchfield forum was where I got my solution thanks to tech support. Tech support emailed me all the steps, which were in writing except for the one wire I neglected to hook up. Once Tech support gave me the color wire that should be connected, everything worked fine. This was on the second head unit I ordered as the first one the maesto people said the first one (KMM) they have problems with. I change my one star to a 5 star review.

This thing was pretty straight forward. Yes you do need to use Internet Explorer. Yes you can use Windows 10 as long as you use Internet Explorer and not Microsoft Edge. I was able to program it, try it out and it worked the first time however I decided to change a couple buttons so I re-flashed it and connected it back up. The changes were made and all worked. Very nice!

The flashing directions sent by Crutchfield are obsolete and the ones on the IDataLink site don't work either. When I tried the Maestro help number.....well it's in French. I found a website giving me directions for the work around to was able to get it to flash. It still didn't matter - after 5 HOURS at a car stereo installer with everyone in the shop trying to figure out why none of my steering wheel controls, etc.... would work I ended up just having to take the stereo out and return it along with this adapter.

This adaptor has to be flashed through the iDatalink website. The only problem is that their website is so obsolete that it can't be accessed with any 64 bit computer or any browser currently in use today. And it won't work with any Apple product at all. In addition the iDatalink website is not secure so the only way to log into it is to completely disable your antivirus. So it took me an entire afternoon to reconfigure an old Windows 10 machine to accomplish what should have been a 2 minute job. Not worth the hassle.

No good luck with this device. Purchased this as part of a radio replacement project, all parts from Crutchfield and all worked great except the steering wheel control. I had Crutchfield do the harness service which made install 10 times quicker. The first issue was the weblink didn't recognize the device on three computers running windows 10 so I called Crutchfield support and was told to try windows 7 so I dug out an old windows 7 machine and we finally got it setup for my car. Took it to the car and plugged it in and nothing. no buttons on the steering wheel worked. Because of the harness service I only had to connect two wires which was easy but it just didn't work at all. Not a happy camper.

Box did not come flashed. I hooked it to my laptop but ithe website would not function properly. I called Crutchfield. apparently the site does not work properly with the latest windows version. I had to open another version. then the flash went fine. Which is contrary to the directions. But I had to splice 3 wires for the steering wheel controls even though I paid extra for ready plug and play harnesses.

This product has been working in my car flawlessly for over a week now and I am very pleased with it. However, the programming process, as many others have stated, is quite frustrating. When I purchased this product I was aware that I would need a PC running Windows in order to program it. I had to borrow a computer to do it since I only have a Mac, but that was no issue. The issue was their software functionality, or lack thereof. The plugin takes FOREVER to download and install and if you don't do the process exactly the right way you have to start all over or else it won't work. It seems like they can get away with annoying software (from 2013) because you really only have to use it once.

It might be a perfectly wonderful controller, but I'll never know. I have to give it a low rating because of its requirement to have a specific, Windows PC-only computer and Internet Explorer browser configuration to program/flash it. Crutchfield rep told me I could use Bootcamp and install Windows on my Mac computer and do it that way, but after a frustrating weekend struggling to get it to work, talked to another Crutchfield rep this AM who confirmed the Bootcamp route won't work for this. If you only have a Mac or your PC isn't exactly what's required, don't bother ordering this. Such a frustrating experience.
Pros: Looks like it would've been simple to connect with the Ready Harness.
Cons: But could never get it to flash, so had to return it.

Sold this steering wheel control adapter in a package deal from Crutchfield tailored for my Honda Element 2008 EX installation. Never once showed that I'd have to program it myself to work, and that I have to own a Windows PC in order to program it. As exclusively an Apple Mac owner, it was a complete waste of money and time.

With a Sony XAV-AX100 the only part that is needed is the 3.5mm aux. You can cut the connector that connects to the Maestro adapter off and hard wire into the Axxess AX-SUB28SWC-6V to retain steering wheel controls for a 2017 Subaru WRX.

I bought this despite the reviews telling of difficult installation. I received it in the mail today, and an hour or so later it was flashed, wired, and working as expected in my '09 KIA Optima with a new Pioneer AVH-2440NEX. Yes- it is stupid that you have to use Internet Exploder and .NET Framework V2.0 to allow your computer to communicate with the ADS-MSW module. Yet, Windoze 10 (which is on the HP/Compaq Elite 8300 I7 PC I used to flash my module) still has Windoze Exploder, and downloading .NET Framework is relatively easy. It's kind of like a trip back to 2002 or so. If you are only 17, you may want to spend some time learning a bit about the old software you need to use for programming this Maestro module. After configuring and flashing the ADS-MSW module via USB in my office, I went outside to the car. Aside from connecting the 3.5mm plug cable to the new Pioneer stereo wired remote input back panel jack, there are only 4 other wires to connect. Ground, accessory positive power, and 2 wires on the vehicle wire harness 24 pin jack. Thankfully I had a spare mating 24 pin plug with wire pigtails, so I just used crimp barrel connectors for those 2 wires (Pins 16 & 17). I do feel bad for folks that only have Mac PC's, as those computers are not going to talk to the ADS-MSW module USB ports (the programming port to get your module configured to "talk" between your car controls and stereo). The instructions should tell you that you will need a friend

It works Great! It took a while to figure out the wiring. But, once I figured it out it was no problem at all! Also, something I found is the three wires that you are connecting to this retains all your controls on the left so, VOL + and -, Up and Down buttons, Menu button, and Trip button. If connect correctly you do not lose the trip button. A lot of the forums said you would.
Pros: Works great and still get to use all my button. Also, on my vehicle with this, I am able to program the button with whatever I want them to do.
Cons: Wiring is a challenge if you are new to hooking this up. But, it can be done!

It works as it's supposed to, after a nightmare of a configuration. Web-based setup? Not so fast. Not just the web... You MUST be running Windows. You MUST use Internet Explorer. You MUST use their ActiveX plug-in... or forget it. This was arguably a slick approach for some people in the previous century, but today, it's a dead end. The irony that their instruction sheet shows it being done from a modern MacBook Pro while in fact it's better off with an ancient PC running literally a 20 year old OS and a browser that even its creator is trying to kill off is laughable. If it weren't for the free availability of Windows 10, VirtualBox, and a lot of patience and experience battling poor product design, I would have given up and shipped this thing back after the first day of trying. Next time, I'll just buy the preconfigured alternative from Axxess instead and be done with it.

Product works good, but the programming is frustrating. First, most people have windows 10. How can it not be supported? I finally found an old laptop with 7 and even then, it took several tries to install and get it to recognize the module. I have installed flashlogic stuff before, so do have some familiarity with the website interface they use. The button definitions seems a little vague on some of the options.

Perhaps a bit more complicated than a few of the other controllers. For one thing I could not get the program to run on google, it kept asking for a plugin even after I downloaded the plug in. Luckily Explorer did work and the flash did download and is working. The wiring can be daunting and I do electrical wiring such as networks and even housing.

Configuring this device on the PC to work with your vehicle was easy and they had pictures of the steering wheels to make sure you set it up right. The ability to remap buttons (I don't ever use the mute button, so I made it display phone info when pressed) is really cool and I didn't realize it did that until I was doing the initial configuration. Occasionally doesn't respond for a minute or two but .

oh man, what a pain. After a couple hours of staring at it and figuring out how to attach this to the super-short wire harness in my car, everything works as advertised. That said, I'm not likely to buy anything from this manufacturer in the future unless they start supporting browsers/OSes made in the last 5 years.

You must load the maestro module software using a Windows 7 computer, or older, with Active X. This antiquated software is not compatible with newer browsers. Unless you have an old antique computer laying round or feel like loading a VM just for this, don't bother with this product.

This is much too complicated for end user to handle. The flashing process took a couple of hours to work through with several calls to tech support. Once that was figured out I went to install the unit and found that I could not get to the factory wiring inside my dash to figure out which wires to connect the unit. I finally gave up since the only steering controls I have are volume and station preset scan. It was just too much effort for the potential reward.

It works for basic radio controls from the steering wheel (volume, channel and mode select)...but bluetooth and voice nav buttons do not work...at least not in an 09 Civic with factory navigation/bluetooth steering wheel controls. It seems to be highly dependent not only on your car but the radio you select. For Kenwoods, you will need to use the Kenwood microphone. The steering wheel bluetooth controls amount to answering/hanging up a call...and even that is flaky but even if that worked it would not be that useful. If it won't prompt the radio via the steering wheel buttons to accept a voice command to make a call, its useless in my opinion. The voice navigation buttons will also not integrate or activate the Kenwood. I was expecting a full duplication of the bluetooth steering wheel controls and OEM functions on a Honda. I spoke with several "technicians" at iDatalink and confirmed that the "Maestro" was getting a signal from the steering wheel buttons, (so it appeared to be hooked up correctly) but then they went on to explain all the limitations with a Kenwood and that "its a problem with the Kenwood"....If that is the case, then someone needs to make this crystal clear as to exactly what this will/won't do especially when you have a working OEM bluetooth/nav system.

This is a great steering wheel adapter but I'm only giving 4 stars because the firmware flashing process is terrible. iDatalink requires a computer running Windows 7 which Microsoft stopped providing support for 3 years ago and is officially EOL in 2020. It was a total hassle to get their software installed to do the software flashing, it required a janky combination of Internet Explorer 7 and some IE plug-in to emulate windows 7. At least you only have to do it once. Once flashed the setup was a breeze and it works very well. They just need to modernize their software flashing process.
Pros: Once you get the module flashed it's smooth sailing.

Okay, so this is getting 5 stars because I did eventually get it to work it took me 7 days, but truthfully it's because I had to work and spent what free time I had trying to figure out *how* to get this thing going. The instructions are vague. Plain and simple. Flashing the device isn't hard. You go to the site, select your car + steering wheel + and radio and program your buttons and bam. It's done. But it's the AFTER part that is confusing if you don't frequently deal with wiring. I am not someone who does. So I'm going to tell you what confused me in case it helps another clueless person trying to save money by doing their own install. Firstly, If you purchase the ready harness and think this thing can just be plugged up to go, you're wrong. This is probably common sense to most, but not to me. The ground wire and accessory wire will be hooked up for you. But the other wires will not be, because they have no way to hook them up to your car. This was a major "duh" moment for me. The diagram on idatas website will show you exactly which wire in the harness connects to which pin on your car. For Instance: the red/purple wire from the maestro went to the dark blue wire on connector A pin 11 for me. Just splice into it and you will be good to go. For me, 2 wires held me back. I just needed to connect 2 wires and my frustrations would have been solved. Anyhow it works perfectly and I'm glad it's over lol

This is a good device but the instructions for integrating this to a 2014 Honda CR-Z are not accurate. The instructions show that the Bluetooth module is located on the center of the dash, but this is not so. It is located at the passenger kick panel. You will need to remove the glove box in order to access it. You have to keep an open mind to the instructions with this as they can be slightly off, but it does work as intended once wired correctly.

Really disappointed with several things about iDatalink Maestro ADS-MSW Steering Wheel Control Adapter... first off the instructions are very vague... I even spent the money to have Crutchfield attach the harness to make install easier (which they seem to have done a good job). Note you need PC not mac... but not just pc.. when downloading the program to flash the controller, you can't use chrome or firefox or even new internet explorer... you need to use internet explorer the old e with the little halo looking picture, no where in the instructions is that stated... so after 2+ hours of trying to flash the programmer and trying to do it on 4 separate PC computers I started making phone calls...called Crutchfield their customer service is great... but Ultimately had to cd all maestro who again had great customer support.. finally I was on the right track and got it all flashed and ready to go... On to the install... Since all wires were hooked up it was plug and play... or was it... I got it all hooked up and got the new radio installed and all back together... I work 6 days a week and between 52-60 hours with 2 little kids at home so to find the hour or so to do the install is tough... I first trip radio is great sounds good and I'm happy... now let's use those steering wheel controls... nope nothing... not working... so after hours of fighting and frustration and spending this much, I got something that doesnt even work.... sad

Fantastic unit. Slightly better than the Metra Axxess. My only complaint is you need a PC and must use Internet Explorer to create an account so you can flash the firmware for initial setup. I would rather use my phone for programming like the Axxess does with no registration required.

Very Frustrating experience. I had trouble programming it. I phoned tech support, they were very helpful in assisting me in configuring my browser. However, I never installed it. The wiring was more than I planned on tackling. I used Crutchfield's service to make the wire harness for the receiver, but they didn't provide any connection for the ADS-MSW adapter. I was left scratching my head looking for the right wire to splice, then didn't find any guidance on where to plug it into the one of the several module plugs. I suppose I could have called tech support, but alas, the project had consume a good portion of my afternoon, the car needed to be used, so I abandoned the ADS-MSW install.

Installation was a bear. You are forced to use Internet Explorer. I haven't used IE in over a decade. It does tell you you have to use IE, but only after you have created an account and signed in and gone through the programming procedures do you have to do it twice if you don't know. Also, I felt the install instructions were a bit light and unclear. Look for the red, black, and white wire in the wire harness...I had 3 wireharnesses with red, black, and white wires. The correct wire harness, infact, had TWO red, TWO black, and TWO white wires. idatalink is not open on the weekends, but a quick call to Crutchfield and I had the right harness with the right orientation, so the right wires. Now it works.

Required for installation to retain steering wheel controls. I found their significantly more expensive model that allows you to retain the NAV/RSE/TPMS monitoring/etc. wasn't worth it since my truck didn't have and of that to begin with. For $50 you can buy a scan tool that will give you all of that anyway and you can easily take it from one vehicle to another. It's a really slick online interface to program it, very comprehensive if a bit busy in the GUI. Being able to reprogram the buttons to do different things via the computer and USB cable is pretty novel and a perfect April Fools trick for the most nerdy hardcore pranksters to switch around peoples volume up/down buttons!

This has worked well and was relatively easy to install. Once I got the bugs figured out. First off, you'll have to download software through I.E. can't use Firefox, Chrome etc. you'll need to make sure you have pop-ups enabled or it will tell you repeatedly that you need to download the newest version of software. Setting up a new account was a bit wonky. Be prepared to have to reset your new password the first time you log in. Programming is very straight forward. make sure your steering wheel matches the pictures shown for flashing the module, you can customize the steering wheel controls if needed or desired at that point. wiring was pretty straight forward as well, since this will give you a diagram specific for your car. I would suggest to wire the harness and then test before putting your dash back together. if everything is connected properly the module should have a green light that turns on if you've connected the red wire on your module to your red ignition wire your new stereo. I missed this the first go and nothing worked until I connected the red wire, and I missed it because only two wires connected into the new wire harness of the stereo and I skimmed over the other wires. after that it worked as it should with no problems. I gave this 4 stars because the the software download and use was a bit weird with only having to use Internet Explorer and allow pop-ups. which is not mentioned in the paper instructions, so you're left to stumble for about

I understand my 2006 Maxima is not simple like many other vehicles however, the ready harness had 2 connected wires, I had to connect 3 more in the dash and then bypass the factory Bluetooth under the drivers seat. Still no joy.

Works as advertised with my 2009 Nissan Maxima and a Kenwood DMX7705S. Instructions were pretty clear, but did have some initial trouble getting the software to load for flashing the unit using a Windows 10 computer. Wouldn't work using Chrome or Microsoft Edge but once I selected the option in Edge to open up Internet Explorer instead, the software worked fine for flashing the unit.

Works well with the Sony XAV-AX100 I installed in our 2009 Odyssey. When using CarPlay, it's great to use the mode button to trigger Siri. Installation wasn't too bad, though it would have been great to have a male 'B' connector to complete the connection (I had to stick a couple of wires into the female B connector and then twist-tie/tape them in place).

Unit works great with my 08 Sonata. Had an issue with the instructions. I downloaded the firmware to the unit. Steering wheel pictures were a little confusing as mine was slightly different. Instructions that come the unit are vague. Turns out you need to look as the wiring diagram and splice in a few wires. Didn't realize this since I paid for the pre wired option for the harness. Tech Support helped me out greatly. Jason Sanchez showed me my error and once I wired everything into the stock vehicle harness life was good.

With one exception, this thing seems to be just great. Setup was quite easy in Internet Explorer (IE is the only way to set up the interface), and it worked as advertised straight away. I did decide to leave a longer USB cable somewhat accessible, so that I can reprogram it if necessary. The included instructions are a little vague, but the web site walks through the process easily, and allows printing out a wiring diagram that explains the wiring pretty exactly (there is still one mystery wire in my installation).

Cons: Requires Internet Explorer for configuration -- this really needs to be modernized to allow flashing with other browsers.

The product itself works great! The reason for 4 stars is that the installation directions were not the clearest. You could follow them but it took a bit of studying. It was just a diagram and no written directions explaining anything. Are 0 stars possible?? Probably sending this back. Needs to be programmed before install using a windows computer with a specific Windows and IE version. Will not work with Apple, doesn't like my Windows laptop either. Also, there is no wiring schematic in the "Quick Start Guide". I can't even find one on their website. Give me a PAC interface with switches any day of the week. I would be done with the install instead of searching around the web for help.

2008 Honda Element
This unit gave me the ability to continue using the steering wheel audio controls in my Honda Element. I needed access to a Windows computer in order to flash the firmware that made this compatibility possible, but it was an easy process. Correct installation needed Crutchfield's help.
Pros: Does what it purports to do.
Cons: Setup instructions and directions are vague and confusing. I needed the help of Crutchfield's Cris to sort out the right way to hook it up to my new JVC head unit. Otherwise, I would have botched the install.

Really like it! Maintained the very few controls I had (volume up/down and memory stations) and was able to add more! Programming it however was a bit tricky. Had to enable .NET framework 2.0 on my machine before I could run the flash updater but then programming was easy. Could choose the alternate functions I wanted for the long-presses of the buttons I had available on my steering wheel. Flashed the controller, hooked up a couple of wires and was done.
Pros: easy to program, easy to customize
Cons: wiring instructions a bit vague.

This thing is trash. Requires ActiveX and their instructions are horrid. Tried 2 PCs and neither agree with the device. I work on computers for a living and have gone through exhaustive steps to try and get this to work, but it simply will not work. And their customer service is closed on the weekends, when 99% of people would have time to tackle a project like this. I honestly can't believe Crutchfield would sell this, because usually they don't sell junk.

This product is well worth the money when wanting to retain a factory feel with your aftermarket stereo. programming is little difficult if you don't have the right platform on your personal computer but once into it, it was really easy.

difficult to flash with windows 7: you have to download a program to allow your computer to open .msi files as administrator first. However, after finally getting it flashed the thing worked great for almost 6 weeks. Now every time I start up the car, it only works for the first 5 minutes of driving and then not at all. I installed it the last week of December, and it stopped working the first week of February. That's not very good in my opinion!

Easy but read the fine print

It comes with a lot of wires and can seem over whelming, but once you access the website it's pretty easy set up. For my vehicle (2007 Hyundai Sonata) I only had to attach the wiring harness to 2 factory wires.
Pros: Really easy to set up and assign functions to the module (flashing). Easy to follow diagram when you print them out.
Cons: Be sure to read the computer application requirements to make sure you have all the items (Window 7 or later ). Had to use 3 computers before I could find one with all the requirements to allow me to flash the drive.

2018 Subaru WRX
So first off, Crutchfield says this does not work in my car (2018 Subaru WRX). But after reading a few forums of people that have used it in previous model years, I decided to give it a go. I had originally bought the Axxess ASWC-1 but when it came to programming, the interface would not work - for some unknown reason. So I spoke to tech support and explained my situation and the guy was very helpful and allowed me to swap them. When it came to programming this interface, it was a huge hassle because first I tried to do it on my regular computer which runs Windows 10, but I found that it only works with Windows 7. So I had to dig out my old laptop. Also, the USB cable provided in the packaging did not work (the interface was undetectable) so I used another one I had laying around. Once I got all the wrinkles ironed out, programming was easy, intuitive, and quick. I connected all the wires, and everything worked perfect! I'm relieved that my steering wheel controls work now because I've been without them since a week after I bought the car. To Crutchfield: you guys should update the fit info for this product. It WILL work with a 2015-2018 Subaru WRX, even though on the iDatalink website, it only shows up to 2016. I used this model year to program it since it has the same steering wheel as mine. But overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase, and with Crutchfield's Tech Support. Thank you

Great Product For Simple Programming

2011 Subaru Impreza
This is a great product for maintaining steering wheel controls on a 2011 Subaru Impreza while interfacing with a Kenwood DDX574BH stereo head unit. The unit was quite simple to flash. The wire hook up was a bit cumbersome as there were many options behind the dash to connect to. Luckily I was able to connect to many of the wires in the adapter harness. There were a (3) ship side wires that were not available in the adapter harness that required some tricky soldering. The only real CON that I can think off (and I do not know if this is the Adapter or the head unit) is that since installing Sirius XM satellite radio whenever I control the volume with the steering wheel there is a high frequency pop that is heard. This sound is ONLY when using the steering wheel controls. When adjusting the volume from the head unit there is no sound. When I upgraded the speakers with better tweets it only made the sound more prevalent. This sound is not heard when controlling any of the other sources (iPod, Bluetooth, HD radio, AM/FM Radio, Spotify, AV-In). The only source affected by the pop is satellite radio. I must say though as far as phone controls and integration this thing is top notch. The flash took no time and once complete the unit directly interfaced with the steering wheel in the vehicle. I don't know if it's the Kenwood Excelon DDX9903S unit, the 2011 Kia Sorento controls, or the iDatalink Maestro, but my steering wheel controls are rarely assigned correctly. Super frustrating.

I've used a different controller in the past (will not say any names) that seem to always flake out randomly. That particular one includes a resister in the packaging that you "may" need to use if you have issues. Which means taking apart your dash again, and soldering in a resister, then having to put everything back again. This one was so easy to install I wish I had tried it first with my other installs! I'm an IT guy so flashing it was a piece of cake. I love the fact that you can select how to program it on the website for all the buttons right on the screen. I had no issues with the flashing process and the install was easy as well. This thing works flawlessly, all my controls on my wheel work perfectly. If you want your install to work right the first time, and go smoothly I highly recommend using this adapter over "the other one" that is offered.

The shop that was going to install this control for me informed me that it needed to be programmed. They were unable to do it because all they had was Mac's. I programmed it myself after a phone call to the company, must have windows seven or earlier to program it. You must open an older browser to do the programming, that was a bit of a learning curve.
Pros: Really enjoy having all the access I had from my factory unit, now my controls do even more.
Cons: Programming it was a bit of a hassle.

I'll keep this short and to the point. This needs to be programmed or "flashed" in order to accomplish its intended function. In order to program it you need to install a bit of software on a PC and complete a registration process that involves creating an online account and then waiting for an email to be sent to you in order to activate that account before you can do anything else. I'm still waiting for that email to arrive, although it was "successfully sent" according to the company's website (idatalink.com). I requested they re-send it several times but it just isn't happening. I tried creating another account with another email address and got the same lack of response. Since I can't even get an activated account setup I can't use the product at all. What sucks here is that I paid extra money to have the order sent to me overnight so I could do the installation of a new head unit in my wife's car over the four day fourth of July weekend. I can still install the new head unit but the steering wheel buttons won't work until I am able to resolve this issue with idatalink. Then, I have to tear the dash apart again to finish the job I should have been able to complete the first time around. This seems quite contrary to the Crutchfield policy of making things easy for people. I think I should be able to access the necessary tools through Crutchfield or through an account Crutchfield maintains for their customers. Not a favorable situation.
Pros: Should work with the new Sony receiver and the target vehicle.
Cons: I won't know because I can't program the thing.

2008 Lexus RX350
Works well with my 2008 Lexus RX350 steering wheel controls. Took away 1 star because the module needs to be pre-programmed and the only option to program it is via a Microsoft Windows computer (I have a Mac), and wiring into the car bundle is not easily done without some detective work. It would be useful if there was a wiring adapter module to plug directly into the car wiring bundle module. As it was, I cut out the module interface from the original radio and then soldered the Steering Wheel Control wires to this module. I was able to plug directly into the car wiring using the original module interface.
Pros: It works with Lexus RX350 steering wheel controls
Cons: No programming support for Mac. Wiring connections could be made easier with a plug compatible module for Lexus RX350.

I've been having issues with my factory radio and finally decided to purchase an aftermarket radio. I have installed quite a few radio's in my time and figured it would be fairly simple to just plug all the wires in. Then it hits me. After spending quite a bit of money to get a radio, harnesses, and this poc I learn that the hardware has to be programmed to be able to use it by "Flashing it"... Honestly, this is 2017. Since when does hardware need to be programmed to install it? Not only this but their website, which I used to determine which module I needed, does not have any disclosure that you must use a PC and Internet Explorer to "flash" the hardware. Oh and you can't use any type of virtual machine (most consumers probably don't know what that is)... that it has to be a PC and internet explorer. Considering Mac's have become more mainstream I find that as many positive reviews that they receive they are severely lacking in their IT department. Seriously, they must be in the stone ages to still be working with PC's and internet explorers. And don't bother calling them...their customer service will only tell you that you're stuck to go somewhere to have it done for you and pay more $$$. I probably will go and spend more money because I'm tired of having radio issues and unfortunately this is the only company out there that does this kind of stuff. If they were wise, they'd clean house in their IT department, be a bit more clear in their disclosures, and

Easy setup and install. I used internet explorer on windows 10 to flash the module. Installed on a 2003 Honda Accord with a Pioneer radio. Stock buttons on steering wheel work as they should. Secondary functions are hit or miss. I would purchase again for another install.

The product itself works great, I did not like the fact that I had to tap into the factory harness, was not told this up front.. Seems there is not a adapter to connect the factory Toyota steering column harness to the ADS-MSW controller.. Also did not like that Internet Explorer is the only browser that will work to configure the adapter. Having only MAc computers - this was a huge issue.. The install instructions were horrible.. In summary the product itself works great, getting it installed & working was touger than it needed to be..

Works great when it works right. I installed the iDatalink Maestro in my F150 to use the factory steering controls to control volume up/down and skip forward/backward on my Pioneer head unit. About 50% of the time the volume up control skips to the next track instead of turning up the volume and the volume down control turns the volume up instead of down. The skip forward and back controls and do some pretty screwy things too but I use those much less than the volume controls. So it works, just kind of a crap shoot as far as what's going to happen when you press the button. Maybe I'll try reprogramming it if I get bored one day.

I will re-visit this review once I have it all up and running, but there is a Major problem that Crutchfield Needs to address with the makers of this unit. How In The World do you make a product that you cannot update (read "flash") on an Apple computer? Even more, you have to find a Windows 7 PC just to get this thing to work. Wish I would have paid to have someone else install this. I've done countless stereo installs, and having to stop what you're doing to go and try to find an OLD PC to get this to work is just goofy. I expect better than this when I order from Crutchfield. I know they do not make this product, but they sold it to me as a "plug and play" item, that is FAR from that. Comes in two boxes, with a ton of different wiring harnesses, etc. Not nearly the simplicity that it looks like when you read about the Maestro online. Great idea, but the company needs some serious updates. This unit is not usable AT ALL without "flashing" it. Not good.

Four stars because it does what it claims to do. One star removed because of the problematical flashing interface. Maestro WebLink requires Activex enabling. Also need this to be done in Internet Explorer. Since the newest Microsoft Windows 10 does not permit installation of Activex and does not have IE, my current PC could not do the flashing as configured. No iDatalink tech support on weekends, finally borrowed a Windows 7 computer with Internet Explorer and Activex resident and easily flashed the memory on the device. It seems to work okay. I have not tested out all of the steering wheel controls yet. Installed new Alpine head unit and amp, working fine through Maestro Rr interface cable system purchased with this Sw adapter unit.
Pros: A way to keep steering wheel controls with a new head unit installed. Flashing is vehicle specific and has good, intuitive configuration selection.
Cons: Newer computers may require adaptation to accomplish flashing and Maestro provides no guidance to that end. Frustration for user-level folks like me with little background in browser configuration.

Took a while to flash the module due to some issues on the web page. Was able to Google some solutions to resolve the issues. After it was flashed and installed it works well and as described.
Pros: Allows you to keep steering wheel controls. Pretty easy install.
Cons: Had difficulty on the website trying to flash module. Tried on 3 different computers. Eventually had to Google a solution and found others that were having the same issue and a solution that worked.

Just got off the phone with the idata link tech because my the webpage said my module was not detected. He instructed me to press the "Flash Module" button 12 times and it will be detected on the twelfth time. He was right! Make sure the web page cycles each time you press the button. The tech said this was a Windows 10 issue. Hope this helps anyone else.

2004 Honda Odyssey
This module is pretty slick. Nice to be able to customize (to a degree) and double the functionality of what the very limited buttons on my steering wheel can do. Would have been helpful if MAC supported them, however, everyone knows of someone with and/or works with a PC so not a big deal, just an added delay for me to have to wait until I was at a PC to program. Again, doubles the features and is customizable. It was very nice that their online specified the exact pin on existing car harness for one of the three wires I needed to use, however, they didn't specify the ACC and Ground for some reason. Not an issue since the Crutchfield harness had these wires labeled so was able to solder the ground and switched 12V ACC to the appropriate location. If not for that harness for the stereo, I think I would have sweated this a bit more. Also liked the photos of the steering wheel to confirm, although, the product listing lacked my stereo (Kenwood KDC-X599) but model down worked. Overall, awesome product regardless.

No drama except flashing with windows 10. Read reviews and discovered that i needed to hit the "flash module" button 10 times before it decided to flash it. From there, ...cake! All connections are to be made on the car's factory harness' side and NOT the aftermarket stereo' side.

Worked just like advertised. Installed it on my wife's 2013 Kia along with a Kenwood Excelon DDX393 stereo. All the steering wheel controls work like before. Make sure to program it before attempting to install it.

A little quirky

2006 Honda CRV EX
I put this into a 2006 Honda CR-V, coupled with a Pioneer stereo. It comes well packaged, and the wiring instructions are fairly easily figured out. Flashing the firmware is easy and pretty quick. When installing into the car, make sure you can still get to it or remove it easily, in case you have to remap the button functions (ie: some of them don't act the way you thought they would). I had given my buttons 2 functions each, and they would have none of it. I had to yank it out and reflash 3 times before the buttons would function as desired, and one of them still balks half the time. I would try out a different adapter, but for the time being, I can deal with reaching all 2 feet to the stereo to change the radio band. FWIW, I also put one of these into a friend's 2004 Pilot, and it worked perfectly from the get-go, so there's that.

Product works as advertised....great steering wheel control interface device. Product requires flashing a module for your vehicle...which requires product registration and a return email...and a log on to access flash SW...which doesn't work...therefore to cant log on an flash the module for your vehicle. Cost me three hours to get the ability to flash my module...which after that...it worked fine.
Pros: Crutchfield staff had the email address of the one gent to allow the flash process to proceed.
Cons: product support is M-F 9-5 ...soooo, no one is around on weekends to assist... wiring a bit complicated...instructions could be more specific

So I get this, the instructions say to go to your computer and plug it in, go to their website and flash the thing, that worked great! Now, the instructions do not really make it clear that the piece you're splicing into is on the CAR side, not the harness side so the pinouts were a bit confusing but once I called Crutchfield tech support they ironed it all out for me and install was cake. In order to reprogram the module to do different things, like change the hold volume button to do a different function, you must unplug it from your car, plug into your computer then reflash the module, kind of a pain.

Does what it's supposed to do. If you have a 2015 Subaru Forester and want to retain your steering wheel controls, this will do the trick. I was skeptical at first because Crutchfield warned that it would not work for my application. I called to confirm with the peoples at Maestro. The technician told me that it would work, just to program it as if my ride is a 2014. They just have not updated their database yet. Ten bucks cheaper than the PAC unit. The PAC unit just seemed kind of janky.
Pros: Small. Easy install. Does what it claims to.
Cons: Nothing to report as of yet.

Does what I want it to do

Even though I just installed it, I love it. It does what I wanted and install is 1000x easier then PAC. I used the small posi-tap to install this on my Clarion NX404 in my 2006 Miata base model that did not have radio controls. I bought the switches from a wrecked Miata and used them (the cruise control also works from that FYI). I work at a dealership as a salesperson and drive a lot of new cars and myself get a new car every 2 or 3 years, the Miata is my track/show car but now it has convenience features.
Pros: easy install, program the way you want, no resistors to add
Cons: only thing I can think of is you gotta find somewhere to put in and thats not to easy with modern cars that are stuffed with wiring.

The last time I installed an aftermarket radio, I just accepted the fact that I would loose steering wheel controls. This time around this nifty device was available. The directions made it pretty straight forward to program and connect. The controls are just as they were with the factory head unit. I'm completely satisfied with this product.
Pros: Keeps the same controls the factory deck had.
Cons: I only wish it were easier to reprogram if needed. I found that I could have programmed the "ok google" function in place of siri, but do not feel like taking the dash apart again just for one button.

2009 Hyundai Sonata
Easy to program and flash for my 2009 Sonata. I did not like that I had to cut wires and splice them together rather than having a harness connector. I was told that was because it works off resistance and the pins may not have a good enough connection. I would have preferred to have an option to buy pins to install in the metra harness. But it works. That's the bottom line. Instructions could have been a little more detailed, but after some thought, I figured it out.

I first opened this thing up expecting to find wiring diagrams. Instead I had two wiring harnesses and a book telling me to go to the interwebs. I followed the instructions which was easy enough, programmed it for my 2007 Silverado, updated the firmware, printed out my wiring schematic and installed it. It's really easy to do and it works amazingly well.

Poor instructions

This started off great. I went to the web site, identified my car, my steering wheel, my new radio and flashed the device. I downloaded the instructions customized for my exact config. That was the easy part. What turned this into a month long installation was that the pinning was transposed. The numbering of the pins were a mirror image of the real pins - and the colors were just close enough that I thought I was cutting the right wires. After numerous calls to support at Crutchfield (they deserve a medal) they figured out what I had done. I had barely enough wire to repair what I had done, but it seems to have worked, and now the system is functional. Oh, and they completely left out the fact that a couple of wires needed to be connected as well. Granted, the mistake was mine and it all makes sense "after." A professional installer probably would have completed it in a couple of hours. Instead, mine was a 4 day extravaganza spread over a month.
Pros: Eazy to setup and flash for your config. Great website.
Cons: Too many details left out of the install steps. To easy to confuse the amateur installer.

It works great. Installed it in my 2013 Chevy Silverado with a Kenwood stereo. Need to mess with it a little and adjust the settings but all in all it works really well. I installed it with the mini USB cord plugged in and ran that cable to my glove box so I can reprogram as needed. I did lose all blue tooth function and Onstar functions from steering wheel controls. Not sure if I can get them back when I reprogram.

I installed this unit with a new Kenwood head unit. It's in and functions great but it was a little tricky to install. You program according to your vehicle info on a PC which is pretty easy. However, for my install I had to cut to wires from the factory harness and connect them to the Maestro. Wasn't exactly clear in the directions. Everything went fine once I called and they explained that part to me. Otherwise, it's great.

Wanting to keep my steering wheel controls on my 2005 Nissan Altima, read the reviews at the time so I was able to get a heads up as to what to expect. Must agree with the other posts on the directions given with the unit. Spent small amount of time as to what the directions were trying to explain about the hook-ups and the connection as illustrated. Called customer service line and found them to be helpful and surprisingly understanding and patient. Had the answers needed for my installed in minutes. Working as expected in the same amount of time. Idatalink maestro has a very good product and would not hesitate to purchase again. The download from the website to the unit for programming was quick and easy.
Pros: Easy programming, expanded controls available and customizable. Helpful customer service if needed.
Cons: Instructions not as clear as they could be. My connection did not match the pin-out as detailed.

OK So I will admit that I am not up to date on much of today's technology so I am fairly easily impressed. I had this installed in my 2010 Ford Fusion to control my Pioneer avh-x26600b head unit. It works perfectly. I love the fact that I was able to choose a second function for each control on my steering wheel though the options are somewhat limited with this head unit. I know there are more expensive controllers out there but this one was just what I needed.

This module was very easy to install using the maestro install guide. Flashing the module is very straightforward, using drop down menus for your exact vehicle and radio brand and model. I love the flexibility of being able to assign certain control to buttons based on what you want your steering wheel to do. Would definitely buy again. I know how easy it is to reflash because when I first installed this, I hooked it up to a Pioneer DD receiver, and upgraded to a Kenwood DDX771. Love it, and it works very well with this steering wheel module. Also, the response time for the buttons is the closest to factory I've seen of any aftermarket interfaces.
Pros: Quick to setup. Simple. Reliable. Re-programmable. Ultra flexible. Price.

I bought this to work with a Kenwood Excelon 491 HD head unit. It was easy to program and works perfectly with the head unit. All functions on the steering wheel were used and worked. I even have additional functions now, because you can program the idatalink. If you are a novice, you better study up on how to install this though. I am not a professional installer, but I was able to do this.

I bought this unit to supplement the Pioneer DEH-X4600BT head unit I bought at the same time for my 2008 Hyundai Azera Limited. I didn't want to lose the controls on my steering wheel and after asking an agent at Crutchfield which would be the easiest unit to install, he recommended this unit. I have to say, I'm totally amazed. With the other units you have to program them manually and there is some soldering of wires involved. With the iDatalink Maetro, a couple of splices and wire connectors were all that were needed to get things working. I also like that all I had to do was connect the darned thing to a computer, input my car's information and the head unit I was attaching it to and it programmed itself. I will say that the downloaded instruction sheet from iDatalink is practically garbage. It got me halfway, but I'm glad that Crutchfield's Tech support was able to help and made the install so easy.

This teeny little box works perfectly between my new Clarion CX501 and the factory-installed steering wheel controls on my 2008 Honda Pilot. Love that you can plug it into a computer and customize the actions for the buttons, including new "press and hold" functions. Only downside was that the installation instructions were pretty bad. Wanted me to attach wires to wires that didn't exist, didn't tell me what other wires were for. If you are a pro at this, might not be a problem, but as a novice, I was happy that I got it to work without blowing up the car.
Pros: Easy to program. Works flawlessly. Very small footprint.

Unit was installed in a 2005 Lexus RX330. I can only give this product 4 stars only because of the lack of instructions. In the box was the module and the wiring, thats it. I had read the other reviews on this product here on the Crutchfield so I did have a little bit of an idea what was in store though, so I went straight to the website to program the module and get the wiring instructions. Programming the module was a snap, and I like the idea of being able to program the functions of the steering wheel controls with clicking simple drop down boxes on the website. Wiring went a lot easier than I thought it would. I took the advice I saw here regarding soldering the connections so everything worked the first time I turned on the stereo, an Alpine IVE530 so no issues other than the wires are a bit tricky to strip cause they're so small. The lights on the steering wheel even work again now. Very happy now that everything is hooked up. I've been fooling around with car audio for 20+ years so installation for me was pretty easy, but a novice might want to get a shop to install this.
Pros: Great functionality once installed, ability to easily change button function while programming the module
Cons: No instructions in the box, wires are tiny making it tricky to strip during installation.

I've tried a few different steering wheel control adapters from Crutchfield and this is by far the easiest and best one out there! There's no flipping switches or pressing buttons within a certain amount of time to program the adapter. Just log on, pick your car/options and setup what switches do what. Then download the program into the adapter and that's it!! You can also unplug it easily if you wish to change the settings. Plus, unlike other adapters, it will not lose it's settings if you lose power. If you want your steering wheel controls back, this adapter is the one to get!
Pros: Works great and easy to use!!
Cons: Does not support all switch options, but it does support the majority of them. Which is better than most adapters out there.

2003 Mercury Marauder
I previously installed a Pioneer Avic Z-140BH in a 2003 Mercury Marauder and used a Metra ASWC-1 for the steering wheel controls. I had problem after problem with this unit forgetting the "memory" settings and not working or working as it shouldn't (volume up going down and the opposite). Metra was unwilling to help at all with my bad unit, so I decided to try another company. This unit shows it worked, but on purchase it said it didn't. So I bought it slightly hesitant. However upon arrival, I hooked it up to computer via USB and went on the Maestro website. Just a few extremely easy clicks later and my unit was programmed not only for "push" operation but also "push and hold", doubling the amount of button functions (this is an awesome feature). This is the best working and easiest to program steering wheel control adapter I have used and installed. Crutchfield says this adapter was not recommended for my 2010 Subaru WRX, but Idatalink said it would so I tried it anyway and it works absolutely flawlessly. It was very easy to install in the vehicle and very easy to program via the computer and website from the manufacturer.
Pros: Works flawlessly and is incredibly easy to program.
Cons: None. Crutchfield not recommending use if this in my car.

I'm giving this a so-so review only because of the instructions. The actual wiring diagram is ok, the button programming, for get it... Better flashing the unit from the web site. You need an account, verify email address, promise your first born male etc.. but do the flash - forget the button programming. If I can stress one thing its solder the wires. Some of the functions work on resistance. I initially used crimp connectors and spend two days wondering why it didn't work. I thought it was defective. I called the tech support and went over everything and they recommended I solder the wires. I did and bingo - works like a charm. Steering wheel Button configuration is a great feature (during the configuration flash). You can program a task for button press and another for button hold during the PC (yes PC, not mac) unit configuration flash. Very nice feature. They need to ditch the stand alone configuration (using a single button and some illustrations) and just rely on the flash configuration along with the need to solder the wires. If you do that its a great unit!

Cons: Need to better describe requirements and instructions. Hire a technical writer for gods sake.

Vital for a smooth install

2005 Infiniti G35
Used this to connect steering wheel controls in Infiniti G35 to new JVC deck, and love the result. The integration is one of those "could probably live without it" things when you install a new car stereo, but going the extra mile to keep the steering wheel controls really made the project a total success. You're required to go online for specific wiring instructions and to flash the unit via USB to work with your car and use the settings you choose. For some reason it took several tries on different computers to get the client downloaded and running, but after that, the process was smooth. Really liked the pull-down menus for assigning functions to each button, including the flexibility to assign different ones for press-and-hold. As with most aftermarket jobs like this, the documentation as only a starting point, and you have to do some exploration on your own in terms of finding wires, etc. My wheel controls cam to the dash in their own harness, so that made it easy to ID it by wire color, although I needed one call to Crutchfield to clarify that one wire from the car would go unused. Other than that, install was straightforward. One thing I did that works beautifully: I programmed press-and-hold on the "power" button to activate voice dial... which on the JVC, brings up Siri on my iPhone5 via the Bluetooth. So now can do everything on my phone that Siri can--call out, navigate, select music--100% hands free. Pretty cool.
Pros: Functions exactly as advertised; press and hold function was awesome.
Cons: Documentation a bit sparse; online flash programming took a couple tries.

Odds are you won't need to reprogram Maestro to work with a different head unit. If it's part of a package you buy with a head unit from Crutchfield, it's plug and play and forget it. BUT, if you ever do replace a head unit, reprogramming through their website is a pain in the back seat. It's PC only, and needs a data USB connector. Even then, the web interface (and operating manual) have english-as-a-second-langauge instructions. Once you've downloaded the drivers, found the right data cable, muddled through the interface and reinstalled the unit, it will work just fine. Also, I think it's somewhat overpriced, but not stupidly so.
Pros: works great with original head unit
Cons: pain in the rear if you need to re-pair it to another head unit (or vehicle).

Mitsubishi Evo with Rockford MMCS system

This thing works awesome. I replaced the factory Rockford MMCS on my Mitsubishi with a Kenwood nav unit and used this to retain factory steering wheel control. One thing that isn't clear and may save you frustration is that the MMCS requires the Mito harness adapter even if not hooking up to the factory amp. It saves you from cutting a ton of wires. When you hookup the Mito, make sure to cut the 2 steering control wires going to their adapter box and feed them into the iDatalink. I originally just put a t-splice inline and that caused problems for the Maestro. The other positive is that I programmed my steering controls to do more than the factory did! I also fixed Mitsubishi's backward way of moving through track listings on the stereo. This was all done with their website and selecting what I wanted my steering wheel buttons to do. Piece of cake.
Pros: Retains 100% of original functionality. Customize it to bring in further functionality. Fixes Mitsubishi's stupid button mappings.
Cons: Hasn't made me breakfast in bed. iDatalink's website firmware download requires Internet Explorer.

Overall, this did the job of making the stock steering wheel controls of my 2007 Honda Civic EX Coupe work with my new JVC KW-R900BT headunit. My only complaint is that it took two tries to program it and the instructions and website could benefit from a little more detail and directions. Overall, it worked as expected after the second try.
Pros: Works well, very reliable, compact and easy to tuck away in the dash. Programs via web similar to a Logitech Harmony remote.
Cons: Not the best instructions and guidance on installation.

Installed this in my son's 2003 Infiniti G35. This was a little intimidating at first. A couple calls to Tech Support and we figured out how everything was supposed to be hooked up. We did not have the complete instructions so didn't realize we had to flash the system. The worst part was that we needed a Windows computer to flash the system (we only have Apple products at home). I quick trip to the apartment's business center and five minutes to flash the system and we were up and running. I gave 5 stars because the systems works as advertised and wasn't too hard to install once we found the instructions.
Pros: Works as advertised - steering wheel controls are set the way we want them.
Cons: Need a windows based computer to flash the system. Website address with instructions would be helpful...Google is good, but why make customers search for your site???

im told this is an excellent product, more-so on certain make vehicles than others. my experience with it, not so much. everything i read on it appeared great, but the unit i received evidently was faulty. after try and try again trouble shooting with tech support i returned the unit and got the Axxess ASWC-1 which didn't have to programmed via pc, plugged in and worked correctly within 5 min from install to working.

2011 Kia Sorento
Some background, I installed this in a 2011 Kia Sorento attached to a Kenwood DNN990HD. This setup was the third such attempt at a nav unit install in this vehicle. I tried a Clarion NX702 and a Pioneer AVIC Z150BH, both of which tied to the Metra ASWC for steering wheel input. I followed the install directions to a T, soldered all my connections for clean signal input, and still spent hours programming and reprogramming the ASWC to only have it still not working correctly. Some buttons would work but other wouldn't. Finally I gave up, returned the two stereos (didn't like the interfaces) and threw the ASWC in my parts box. I was determined there had to be a better way. Enter the Maestro SW. I purchased this along with the Kenwood in hopes I would finally find something I could tolerate. Before I even tried the install I plugged the Maestro into my laptop, logged into the idatalink website and in less than 5 minutes flashed the module. Programming was super easy, click the button I want to program on the image of my actual steering wheel (on the idatalink website already), then select the function I want to assign. Note you can also assign a secondary function if you hold the button which is handy. Once my selections were made it loads them on the module and you're set to install. Sure enough, once I had everything hooked up and ready for my first test, the Maestro worked without a hitch. So much easier, I highly recommend this puppy over the ASWC.

Once you get it, remarkably easy installation process to install. Only a couple of wires tied into the Honda OEM radio harness. Identified by color (just like painting by numbers). Two step process on mfgr's website, downloading the appropriate installation diagrams (and I mean diagrams as in "IKEA-like") and then once the correct steering wheel buttons are identified, downloading the wiring diagram. Only four stars because the website and instructions are confusing.
Pros: Easy setup to assign radio/phone functions to steering wheel controls
Cons: To d/l the plugin, remember that it's maestro.idatalink.com and not www.idatalink.com. Of course both pages look similar so I couldn't find the proper version (HINT: look at the top left of the webpage). It's not apparent, but you don't have to follow all the instructions.

The first unit I received was DOA. At forst I thought I was doing somerhing wrong because the instructions (have to download from idatalink's website) are quite poor. After talking to crutchfield tech support, I got a replacement unit that worked perfectly as advertised. The unit is very small and easy to wire up as soon as you figure out what the instructions are actually trying to tell you. I installed this in my 2010 Mazda 5 to keep the steering wheel remote. The remote only has six buttons so the press and hold for secondary feature is awesome with my new sony headunit. If the instructions were easier to use and the first unit I got didn't make me waste a week of my time, this would be a five star product.

I tried installing this unit (which by the way comes with 0 instructions) and it did not work. I spent hours on line looking for ways and couldn't find anything. I finally took it to a audio installer who told me that their is a propitiatory cable that is needed to flash this until. Without it it would not work.

I'm not too much of a fan of 3rd party products, they never seem to work right. This product was amazing and so easy to install. The fact that they made it so you can flash the setting from your computer BEFORE installing it made it so much easier and quick. It actually made made Pioneer stereo do things it could do before, which is a plus. I made an error at the beginning and that was just use wire splicers. It caused the stereo to freak out when hit bumps. I went back and did it right, which is soldering the wires, bam, problem solved.
Pros: Being able to flash your setting through a USB to the unit. Second, for my truck, it was only 3 wires to hook up. Works flawless.
Cons: The website for getting the instructions was a slight pain

Absolutely horrible product. Came with no directions and could not get it to work. I purchased a unit that automatically "sensed" my vehicles' controls from a local merchant and was installed in mere minutes. Stay away from this.

Don't be intimidated by having to splice into your existing wires and "flashing" this unit. It's all very easy!! I used my existing, standard steering wheel controls so I didn't get in to special programming of the buttons but everything else went very smooth. I used a couple Velcro strips to attach this to the top of my radio. All works great!

I recently replaced the factory head unit in my Ford Explorer with my favorite car stereo ever, the Alpine CDA-117. I knew that doing this would eliminate the factory steering wheel radio controls. The Maestro unit let me regain this awesome feature. I chose this unit because of the feature that enables each button to perform 2 functions. I don't have it set up exactly the way I want it yet, but it is about 85% with no manual programming. The unit performs as stated. The instructions seem to be a little vague, actually making installation seem harder than it really is.
Pros: Allowed me to retain the use of my steering wheel controls. Simple installation.
Cons: Instructions are a little vague, looks like everything is translated from French. The price for this item is considerably higher than comparable units by other manufactureers.

The steering wheel control component was as advertised, very easy to install, and to program for my vehicle.
Pros: I was not only able to use the buttons on my steering wheel for their original function, but I was able to override the up and down volume when held in to answer and hang up the bluetooth phone which is great.
Cons: I tried to program the middle button on hold to mute the radio. And although I appear to have programmed right, it doesn't mute right when pressed. I haven't had a change to troubleshoot this piece more as it would require me to remove the whole radio again to get the Maestro out to debug.

Works for the most part, some functions still are hit and miss. My "hang up" button on the steering wheel now changes the modes instead. I need to tweak the programming I think. The wiring harness was good but the instructions were a little vague. Called tech support on the weekend to resolve the issue.

Cons: instructions are a little misleading. And some functions for my car are not listed in the drop down menu on the Maestro website.

Pros: Ease of configuration and assignment modification, in other words...way cool.
Cons: The organization of the instructions was created by an alien culture...but decipherable. Finding the correct connector on my OEM stereo was a tiny hurdle that was quickly overcome with daylight and not being color blind.

I had lived without my controls all the time I had my Pioneer. When I replaced it I wanted to give a control adapter a try. I liked the look of the Maestro and its reviews, so I went with it even though it was a little higher. First, I should have read more closely. I went online, and went through the steps to update the firmware. Then , after I installed it, I tried to program it. BIg mistake! I was getting no where and very frustrated. So I quit for the night, and went over the online page again. Oops! When you update the firmware, the unit is programmed! Also, in reading the wiring instructions I noticed that you should connect the wire on pin one, OR the plug the mini jack into the aux port. I had done both! Next morning, after I adjusted the wiring, and re-flashed the unit it worked the first time EXACTLY as advertised! sweet and simple!
Pros: I got my controls back! Looks like it works with a huge number os cars and stereos. Almost too simple to install.
Cons: I would have understood this a lot faster if the web site asked you to program the unit rather than updating the firmware.

Overall a excellent choice for a steering wheel control adapter. It's a little confusing first setting up, programming, & wiring, but once you get past that it's as easy as using your factory steering wheel controls. I have all my factory steering wheel settings plus fast forward & rewind (didn't have factory) which I use a lot. You can also reprogram any button with a different suggested function if you want to. It's a bit more expensive than the rest, but I think it's worth it. This or any steering wheel control adapter is worth it to me because you can use the stereo while keeping your hands on the wheel & your eyes on the road more which is a safety feature so your less likely to get in an accident.
Pros: Retains all factory steering wheel controls/Can program any button for different functions if wanted
Cons: A little confusing setting up/programming, but only initial setup/A little more expensive than competitors

I waited for this item to come out, as it was the first that said it was programmable. I wanted to be able to have ALL of my steering wheel buttons work with my new Kenwood headunit. The website did not have a flash for my specific application, but I was successfully able to program it myself. Very trick item if you are tech savvy.
Pros: Works as advertised, ALL of my steering wheel buttons on my 12 Kia Forte Koup SX work with my Kenwood X996 unit. Plus, the push to hold feature effectively doubles the number of functions possible.
Cons: Website and instructions not very clear. If you need to program yourself, NOT for the faint of heart.

Blows Axxess ASWC right out of the water. Very easy to program. USB connection to the PC and through web interface, you get to choose your car's make, model, steering wheel variation, and your aftermarket head unit. It flashes firmware to the unit over the web and generates a PDF that shows the wiring connection that applies to the specific car. In case you needed extra functionality, you could setup the device as a custom wheel interface, then you can program additional functions from steering wheel kep presses. You could even program long presses to do other.commands.
Pros: Very easy to program and install. Will provide you with a complete list of commands that will apply to your head unit, then you decide which buttons on the steering wheel will do what command

Purchased this product to operate an AVIC X940BT. Prior to installing it, I updated the firmware to the latest version on the iDatalink website - and I am glad I thought to do that because I was able to perform all the programming automatically with the firmware update just by entering my vehicle info into the website configuration utility. This made the installation very easy, everything worked perfectly at initial start-up with no extra effort needed by me to get it to work. IDatalink also had exact wiring info for my vehicle on their website, which also made the installation ALOT easier. Also, this product offers full A2DP function including track skip which apparently not all SW controllers do with my head unit. Finally, no detectable time lag between SW button pres and radio response. Just like the OEM system. This system also has a dual-function capability for press and hold versus momentary press and release. This can also be programmed at the mfg. website, with several options. So far I have not used these functions but it is nice to know the capability exists.
Pros: Does everything well. Great mfg. support. Superior unit.
Cons: None that I can see. It does cost more than the others but that small expense is well justified by the great mfg. support, web programming, great function overall, etc.

2007 Honda Odyssey
Installed this in a 2007 Honda Odyssey coupling with Pioneer's new AVH-X3500BHS. I had initially tried the Axxess ASWC, but for some reason, I could never get it to work with my car/stereo combination even after flashing to the latest software. But the iDataLink Maestro worked like a charm. I flashed the module to the correct firmware with the supplied USB cable and an easy, intuitive PC interface. I downloaded the instruction sheet based on my car and stereo model from iDatalink's website and had to splice/connect 4 wires (simpler than it sounds). And that was it. In addition to the standard functions I used to have, I now have Bluetooth and additional audio functions added, including Mute. Highly impressed with this product.
Pros: As close to a plug 'n play as you can get with these products. Easy, simple instructions (downloaded). Weblink application on the iDataLink website is pretty neat.
Cons: Cannot use the Preset/Seek function with iPhone or Pandora (but I was told it may be a limitation of the stereo, not the module).

This thing works great, but came with no instructions what so ever. You have to go to the website and download them. And then they were not very good. I even called crutchfield and they could not figure it out either. The wire that hooks to BCM under the dash was wrong in the instructions. I had to just test wires until I found the right one. other than that the thing works great.
Pros: easy to program for your vehicle and works like it should.
Cons: Terrible instructions. And can NOT be programed with a mac, you must use a regular pc.

Super easy to install- hook the module up to your computer, flash the programming, splice 3 to 7 wires (depending on your vehicle), and you are good to go! The nice thing is you can program additional commands to your steering wheel buttons based on if the button is pressed and released or if it is held down. Money well spent!

2011 Toyota Camry
Easy to install and super easy to program with the online programmer. I was able to set my Volume up and down to make a voice call and answer incoming call with the push and hold function. Installed in an 11 Camry base model with JVC KD-AHD75BT.
Pros: Retain steering wheel control and can reprogram buttons to your liking.
Cons: None so far
