RIBBON FIASCO- READ BEFORE INSTALLING
Devon from Belmar, NJ on 1/18/2025
2015 Ford F-150 XLT
Honestly, this was the most frustrating thing to install from my entire purchase. This is really impressive, seeing as how I had to flash a module, install the required software, remove a factory bracket from behind the radio, and cut pieces of the dash out with a Dremel. All Crutchfield had to do was modify the directions to say to copy the orientation of the ribbon cables from your factory dash. Instead, they insisted, repeatedly, in bold, to ensure the ribbon cables were in a certain direction. Only after calling and talking to a technician did he mention trying to do the exact opposite as the instructions provided and giving it a go. Which would have been fine if I hadn't removed and re-seated the cables three times already. I can only hope that someone who is trying to install this in the future reads the reviews. The build quality isn't bad but I wish the clips for the ports were more easily swappable.

Unclear directions
Nicholas from Albuquerque, NM on 12/24/2024
2020 Ford F-150 XL
I want to give the FTR1 dash and wiring kit 5 stars but the install was pretty frustrating. The radio (Pioneer DMH 3050NEX) didn't quite fit into the bezel and required some trimming. The directions tell you to put the ribbon cables in upside down. Some of the tech support says to keep trying various directions until something works. It would have been more clear to tell users to check the orientation of the factory ribbon cables and match that. There were also several cables that the instructions said weren't needed, but ended up being necessary which resulted in a few instal/reinstall cycles. There are also no instructions whatsoever for the little cubby with USB/USBC/Aux/HDMI ports. I connected the radio USB to the USB port in the cubby but the others aren't hooked to anything. I wish the purchaser could configure the cubby to their preference since all the plugs seem removable. Lastly, some of the screw holes used to mount the circuit boards on the back of the bezel/face plate were so tight that the heads on multiple torx screws stripped. If a torx head strips going into plastic there is something wrong... Overall I am happy with the final product but the instructions and some of the plastic parts left me wishing for more.
Pros: Final product appears factory
Cons: Unclear instructions, some fit & finish issues

Ribbon cables that came with it were deffective somehow. After installation it fried my climate control board. I tested the supplied cables and stock cables. I ended up having to purchase a new climate control assembly and had to purchase new ribbon cables, which crutchfield ended forgetting to ship? Still waiting for the new cables to arrive. The stock cables are working fine with the replacement climate control, i just hope the new ribbon cables don't take out the new climate control modules.

Great quality, poor install instructions.
Bradley from Saint Johns, FL on 8/12/2024
2016 Ford F-150 XLT
The kit is built well. Good quality parts and all the connectors were a direct fit. The down side is that the instructions from the shared PDF and the online video contradict eachother. The right answer to make Climate Controls, Reverse camera, and Steering wheel controls was a mix between the booklet and the video. It took trial and error to make it all work. Some cables were labeled "not used" for my application, but they were very much used to make all the options work. Printed instructions also list connectors "A1, A2, etc" but there were no markings on the connectors to correlate that to. I'm not a professional installer, but have a background as an electrician and a mechanic. Those skills were needed to make the install happen.
Pros: Quality parts, OEM fit and finish.
Cons: Installation instructions were muddy in the wiring department.

Third button above radio
Kraig from Marshall, TX on 5/5/2024
2019 Ford F-250 XL
Under fitment it says it doesn't work if you have the cargo camera button above the radio. I couldn't find any information on why it wouldn't work other than the third hole not being there for the button so i decided just to try it. I can't ever remember a time I needed the traction control button on a work truck so I left it connected but left the button behind the face plate. If I ever end up needing it I'll mount it somewhere else. Everything else works fine, both cameras work and the button switches between the two like normal.
Pros: Easy install, retains steering wheel buttons with the additional module, was able to keep the cargo camera button, I can actually see the reverse camera as opposed to the 4 inch screen
Cons: The ribbon cables for the ac controls installed backwards to what the instructions call for to work

Relatively easy conversion
Fred from Monroe, LA on 3/28/2024
2015 Ford F-150 XLT
Putting a larger head unit into an F-150 that came with the 4.3-inch screen is not the easiest thing in the world, but this kit made it probably as easy as it could be. The conversion requires removing the circuit boards from the original dash and installing them differently into this one. In the process, you lose your volume knob, which is a bit of a bummer for me, as the AC/heat controls move up. (And two weeks later, I'm still reaching over and cranking up the fan on my AC with that knob when a song I love comes on.) On the bright side, the little storage cubby that you gain is useful, especially for placing your phone when hooked into the USB for Android Auto. My only complaint is that when it comes to wiring the kit, the video instructions were not always clear, and I sometimes found myself choosing out of the many wires and connections in the bundle by trial and error until I found the right ones. And you do have to cut a little chunk out of your sub-dash to make it fit (which Crutchfield warned me about).
Pros: Looks good when installed Relatively easy to install Keeps most functionality of the original dash Storage cubby is nice
Cons: Video instructions not always clear when it comes to wiring Requires dash modification

Very simple installation with easy to follow video. Absolutely no splicing for a clean install. Would like to have not needed the factory knobs and buttons. Would have preferred a more modernized solution but not a big deal in the end.
Pros: No splicing and direct connections

I was sold a specific adapter to avoid heavy wire splicing. Harness shipped with my ftr1 is lacking the proper connector. Just a bunch of wire ends. Online searches lead me to believe the harness was updated and I was sold an old one. I used Crutchfield to AVOID this kind of issue, figuring a specialty shop would know better. Now I have a useless adapter I paid for and still have to solder 50 connections. I had to give up my install and reinstall the factory radio after I figured this out. I expect this from other online sites....paid extra for this..

Product advertised is not the one delivered.
Samuel from NAPLES, FL on 11/5/2023
2017 Ford F-150 XLT
Harnesses in the installation instruction video do not match the harnesses provided in the box. The plugs on the FTR1 harness go together with the OEM wiring harness. But the main FTR1 harness doesn't match the one in the video, making things extraordinarily confusing. The video shows a professional looking wrapped harness with connections to the OEM plugs that have multiple wires coming off of them. Out of the box, the FTR1 harnesses look NOTHING like the video, loose wires everywhere, unwrapped, plugs themselves missing where they should be. Because of this, my aftermarket radio has no power and I now have to take my truck to a car audio shop to have it installed by a professional. Furthermore, when assembling the FTR1 dash kit, the video and instructions are wrong, if you install the ribbon cables dark side up, your climate controls will not function, I had to take it back apart and damaged part of the ribbon cable in the process, now the automatic windshield heater function doesn't work. This was supposed to be a plug and play aftermarket radio swap. Now I have to spend additional money to fix negligence. Let me specify though, this is not Crutchfield's fault. This is the product itself.

Does not fit to Kenmore radio screen
Jorge from Simi Valley, CA on 7/20/2023
2016 Ford F-150 XLT
Crutchfield has great staff to assist in making the purchase, however, my concern is with the multitude of wires and connectors after the purchase. I made the purchase because you advertised that you offer lifetime support to assist in completing all wire connections. I attempted to get tech support to get assistance with some step-by-step instructions to ensure that all required connections are made correctly. I purchased the suggested harness that Crutchfield offered where Crutchfield makes the needed splices to simplify the connection process to the vehicle harness. I finally was able to make contact with Keko who is a very helpful. She stayed online to walk me through proper connection and at times texted photos of the wire connections made and needed. The wiring diagram included with purchase is not so easy to follow. It is not clear which connections are made to which harness from vehicle. Through Kekos help she identified that when Crutchfield made the harness that I ordered, Crutchfield tech did not include all the connecters in the harness to complete the installation. Keko quickly made the order for a new and CORRECT harness to be expedited and sent to me as I now have my truck dashboard bezel all dismantled. Crutchfield indicates that they used "See Support" App to make it easier for customer to obtain needed assistance to make the complete and proper installation. When I asked to use this App, I was informed that this App is no longer available to be used.
Pros: Tight fit to edge of radio screen
Cons: Radio should fit through bezel frame for proper fit. I had to make cut out adjustments to metal frame radio holder to allow the install of radio a little higher to match the opening of the bezel screen opening. Should not sell as a product for Kenmore radio.

Overall a good kit. Screws for attaching radio unit were too long. Instructions for reassembling climate bezel were incorrect as far as ribbon assembly goes but I was able to solve the problem and got it working. Could include wiring/accessories to turn the USB ports and HDMI port on. Price for the kit was also a little steep.
Pros: Ease of use. Well made. Excellent design.
Cons: Costs. Instructions need correcting. Could use additional wiring/accessories.

I replaced the entire stereo system in my 2016 F-150 XL S-CAB and this face plate works perfectly. I had a shop do all the work so I did not have the experience of taking everything apart and putting it back together, but I did watch videos on how its done, and I'm sure I could have done at least this part of the installation. I did not do a lot of window shopping so I am not aware of all the options that were available, but since I bought everything thru Crutchfield, it seemed like the best way to accomplish my goal. The staff at Crutchfield were very helpful and many thanks to them for their expertise - Thank you, Seth!

Faulty harness. Lackluster customer service
Douglas from Lago Vista, TX on 3/14/2022
2021 Ford F-550 XL
I was sent a unit that would NOT work with a 2021 Ford. I installed EVERYTHING as directed and the unit would not turn on. I spent the rest of my Saturday and an entire Sunday going back through my wiring as well as checking for ANY details on the manufactures site to no avail.. I called Idata on Monday and they IMMEDIATELY KNEW what the issue was.. They shipped units missing the CAN network wires on the adapter for the 2019 and newer vehicles.. They suggested I call Crutchfield to get a replacement. I contacted Crutchfield who AGAIN knew right away what my issue was.. Would've been NICE to know this WASN'T plug and play as advertised and not have wasted MY time.. Anyhow. They were going to send me a replacement. Weeks went by.. different excuses as to WHY it hasn't shipped... I FINALLY decided to HACK in to the harness of my NEW truck to install my stereo. I invested over $2000 and was tired of it sitting on the shelf. Then right AFTER I installed it, Crutchfield finally sent a replacement dash kit.. that I now didn't need... I sent it right back.
Pros: Tied my head unit in to the factory systems nicely once I got it to work
Cons: Had to cut in to the harness on my 2021 truck. :(

A bit tedious to move and connect everything from the OEM panel but it matches perfectly and the directions (you have to download them!) are detailed. It even gives you a new storage bin not present in the OEM panel.
Pros: Exact fit and matches perfectly
Cons: Tedious parts move

Looks great! Be careful switching over climate control boards!
Crutchfield customer from Florissant, MO on 5/10/2019
2015 Ford F-150 XL
Awesome fitment. Looks factory in my 2015 F150 XL. Also, the customer service from idatalink/maestro is fantastic. I managed to short out my climate control board, melting the supplied ribbon cabless during the install, my fault, but I called them and they were able to dig out a new set of cables for me and overnighted them to me. After sourcing a new climate control board from the junk yard, I was back in business with everything working great!
Pros: Looks factory installed. Lines up perfectly
Cons: Kind of expensive considering it's basically molded plastic with a few USB/HDMI butt connectors.

Fits nicely, I don't personally like the textured feel but I am sure it fits with other models. You have to modify the dash but as long as you're patient it won't be a problem, was missing some of the clips which I just took form the original piece
Pros: Nice good, good instructions
Cons: It's tough to move the large plate behind the factory radio but doable

An Excellent Solution, More Pro than Consumer Grade
Russell from Troy, IL on 1/8/2019
2003 Honda Civic
In early 2018, I bought a 2015 Ford F150. Beautiful truck that was perfect for all my needs... except... that lame 4.3" screen and barely-there sound system! Crutchfield to the rescue! The Alpine iLX-207 so I needed the iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR and a iDatalink KIT-FTR1 dash plate to support my new double-din unit. It was a bit daunting to re-engineer my climate controls into that KIT-FTR1. In general, the available "3D" model install video was very helpful. However, it was a bit misleading about the ribbon cable re-installation. I followed the video to a "T" and had them in backwards. Being a computer geek for a living, I used my own judgement and put them in the other way and VIOLA! I was good to go!
Pros: Using Existing Climate Controls saves a bunch of money! Fit and finish matches nicely with my 2015 F150
Cons: Complex Re-engineering of Climate Controls

Pros: Look and feel of OEM construction.
Cons: New technology took a little longer to install than planed.

iDatalink KIT-FTR1 Dash and Wiring Kit
Edward from Bishopville, SC on 11/30/2018
2015 Ford F-150 XLT
Really would like to give this 5 stars but, I can't. Installation left a bad taste in my mouth. For the F-150 this kit requires the removal and relocation of the climate control circuit boards. Having a background in electronics, I felt competent to do this task. I was careful not to drop the boards, used a soft surface and also grounded myself to prevent damage from static discharge. The instructions are pretty well written except for the installation and orientation of the new ribbon cables. Luckily, I took a few pics during the breakdown. After reinstalling everything, I found that AC and heating were completely dead. Nothing worked. HVAC, seat belt and airbag indicator lights, or panel lights. Nothing! Long story short. After 2 long days of trouble shooting, disassembly and reassembly. Even a call to Crutchfield customer support, who promised to contact iDatalink and call back but, never did. I came to the conclusion that somehow the circuit broads were damaged. So, 2 hours trip to the only salvage yard with a matching part number face plate with circuit board and $125 later, I replaced the circuit boards which put my system back in business. The face plate material also left a lot to be desired. The material is smooth unlike the textured surface of the original which would seem to be more apt to scratch easily. And my final concern, the first time i plugged in the usb cable, the usb port popped out and ended up being glued back.
Pros:
Cons: Critical installation steps should have better instructions/photos. Texture does not match original factory. USB ports need to better anchored

Pros: Fits perfect, no gaps Finish of the plastic is the exact same as the rest of the dash Additional storage area for phone and using CarPlay
Cons: Installing the HVAC controls is tricky. Must get the temp dial lined up

This worked well to replace the stock 4" Sync system in a 2018 F250 XLT. The video installation guide was good. The guide didn't exactly match my installation, but was still good enough that I could figure it out.
Pros: Everything worked as stated, and was reasonably easy to install.
Cons: The USB ports should be locked in place so they can't push out the back. I had to figure out a way to lock them in place so they don't push out the back when you plug in a USB drive or cable.

Installed this on 2017 F-350 XL without sync. There was no ignition wire, had to run one from the PTO to get my radio to turn on and off. Everything else was perfect. This was less work to install than some other brands. Looks great in my truck, matches good with the interior. All my A/C controls transferred great. The cubby hole is awesome, it's very deep. The USB plugs, line-in and HDMI work great with my Android radio. Very happy over all.
Pros: Fits, HDMI/USB/Line-in, Cubby Hole, Less work than other brands
Cons: No ignition wire for Ford trucks without sync

Perfect fit, OEM appearance
MIGUEL from Buckeye, AZ on 5/21/2018
2016 Ford F-150 XLT
Finally I was able to get my stock 4-inch display in my F-150 updated to a real head unit! The day I purchased my 150 I attempted to order an upgrade kit but that wasn't possible because this kit hadn't been released, fast forward to today and the OEM radio was replaced with a Kenwood DNS-974S which made a lot more sense for the vehicle. Compared to another similar kit from PAC, this kit requires some extra work with respect to OEM boards that need to be transferred. The fit is perfect, the look and feel is perfect, new radio in the dash looks OEM and after a few minor issues with some bad cables that were shipped the install was completed, the dash was closed and I'm an extremely happy customer! This is a very solid kit, compared to the competitor the braces are metal not plastic, the cables are all included to connect to the also required Maestro RR which I needed to integrate into my Sync and maintain controls. What's more, even the factory backup cam can be integrated via a supplied cable so no extra items needed, it's all complete.
Pros: -Everything you need is included -Excellent video on Crutchfield from iDatalink shows entire install process -Factory OEM Backup cam cable included -Metal hardware not plastic -USB and HDMI inputs included on trim
Cons: -Extra OEM boards transferred to new kit when compared to PAC -Proprietary cables are delicate, beware of orientation

Looks nice - good connectors - but....
Scott from Marysville, OH on 4/22/2018
2016 Ford F-150 XLT
For the final appearance, and the lay out I would actually give it 4 - However that being said I have multiple issues with this kit, as I replaced a PAC kit I put in my truck when I first purchased it since iDatalink took a few years to come out with this kit OR update the firmware (I had a Maestro RR my previous F150) My first issue being the complexity. To install the PAC kit I had to cut or remove nothing from my dash. This required that I cut out a section of my dash, then remove a section of the dash framework. Cutting the plastic wasn't major, removing the frame was. Even removing the frame work the orientation of the Sync module makes the connections on the back and presses into the back of the dash. If you mount the backup camera module as instructed its connector/harness also impacts the back of the cavity and with the routing of my harness - pulls hard on the cable bundle. I ended up rotating the module 90' and re drilling the plate. After completing the install, my Sync module still doesn't work. this is a problem with Sync module it is dead and the Maestro is responding. I could have installed the Maestro in my truck with only purchasing the iDatalink wiring harness for much less money. Looking at the end result I don't feel it was worth the price or the time to install it. Its nice.. but I have what I had before -- and cant go back after the cutting. If you don't have experience installing you may want to have it done by a pro.
Pros: -Nice appearance -Adds large pocket with auxiliary lots of aux ports (2 USB - HDMI - audio jack) -Moves heating controls up off the console.
Cons: -Difficult installation if retaining Sync and Backup camera module. -Have to permanently modify your dash opening -Remove or cut out a section of the dashboard frame -Pricey for a couple of pieces of plastic. and a wiring jumper. -Cant remove Sync module without fully removing stereo. (Which I need to do since apparently my Sync module is sick.) -No instructions in the box - Had to go download them. -2 cables not there for the Maestro module - lucky I didn't toss my old harness adapter

For the "18" f150 with the 4inch screen "without sync",and with a rear camera , the iDatalink dashkit fit perfect and the T harness plug right in ,the iDatalink came with one OBD II harness(long orange/yellow wires) and separate harness with just rear camera out and another harness with both OBD II wires and rear cam rca out,the harness with both OBD and rear cam out fit my f150 but while in reverse camera wasn't clear,it was static with white lines on picture,iDatalink needs to add another wire to the harness with rear view camera/OBD ,I had to add a ground shield wire to the harness, now my rear view camera shows clear, other then that everything works and looks good
Pros: Looks good ,Crutchfield ships fast
Cons: Had to add shield wire to rear camera harness fr better picture

I chose this kit over the Scoshce kit because I wanted to retain my stock heat/AC controls. The pocket is more functional on the iDatalink kit than it is in the PAC kit. The fit and finish is matched to the factory dash. It looks great installed. If you are changing out the stock radio in your F-150, this is the way to go. As usual, Crutchfield customer service is the best.
