Features
Overview: The Momento M8 Max (MD-8400) is a dash cam system with built-in Wi-Fi that records the view in front of and behind your vehicle as you travel. Using the Momento App, you can view, edit, and save the footage on your smartphone, or upload it to YouTube or Facebook. The camera also includes a 64 GB microSD memory card for storing video footage. Two additional video inputs on the M8 Max let you connect the included Momento MD-RC7200 rearview camera as well as an optional interior-view camera (sold separately).
Dash Camera: The M8 Max features a front-facing camera equipped with a Sony IMX image sensor with a 3840 x 2160 (4K) resolution @ 30 fps. The camera features a viewing angle of 129° diagonal x 112° horizontal x 96° vertical. It has a built-in microphone to pick up the audio inside the vehicle, and a speaker for the beep tones and voice guidance prompts. The camera features a built-in GPS antenna located on the top panel. The dash cam can easily be mounted to your windshield using the provided 3M adhesive pad (spare pad included).
Rear & Optional Cameras: The M8 Max's 8.5' USB-C power cable includes two 2.5mm inputs for connecting the included MD-RC7200 rear-view camera and an optional Momento Interior camera (sold separately). The MD-RC7200 rearview camera features an integrated adjustable mount that can be installed on a rear window using the attached adhesive backing. The rear camera can provide a continual HD 1920 x 1080 (1080p) image of the view behind you while driving. Rear camera footage is saved to the included memory card along with front camera footage.
- Rear Camera Dimensions: 2.11" (2.70" w/cable) (w) x 1.08" (h) x 1.83" (d)
Notes:
- If a third camera (interior cam) is added, the Momento M8 Max front camera's maximum resolution will be lowered to 2K (2560 x 1440).
- The included Momento MD-RC7200 rear camera cannot be used as a backup camera.
microSD Slot: The M8 Max dash cam has a slot for a microSD memory card to store your recorded footage. The camera will accommodate a microSD/HC/XC card up to 256 GB. A 64 GB microSDHC card and a full size SD card adapter are included. Cards with an SD Speed Class rating of Class 10 or higher should be used.
Recording: As you drive, the Momento M8 Max continuously records video from both front and rear cameras simultaneously. Recordings are saved in 5-minute increments and stored on the microSD card. Even while you are parked, the M8 Max's built-in motion and impact sensors will trigger the camera to start recording. Files are saved in 30-second increments. You can also begin recordings manually. When the microSD card reaches full capacity, the M8 Max will overwrite the oldest video footage.
Sensors: The M8 Max features a motion sensor gets activated when the vehicle is parked. When the camera detects motion, the M8 Max will begin recording video. The camera also has a 3-axis acceleration sensor (impact sensor) that is active while driving or parking. If an impact to the vehicle is detected, the current recording is automatically saved, including 15 seconds before and after the impact.
Wi-Fi: The Momento M8 Max connects to your smartphone by creating a small, secure 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi hotspot inside your vehicle. The Wi-Fi hotspot can only be accessed through the Momento app. The app lets you configure the hotspot to turn on automatically, when you power on the camera, or manually, as desired.
GPS: The M8 Max's built-in GPS antenna can provide location, time, date, speed, and travel direction data from overhead Global Positioning Satellites, available through the Momento app. This location data is embedded into the video, and can be viewed along with the footage. This data can be invaluable in the event of an incident. In addition, the Momento app lets you view the stored GPS data.
Voice Control: The Momento M8 Max's built-in voice control lets you give verbal commands for accessing select functions, letting you say "Hi dash cam" and then stating your command. Functions include Wi-Fi Enable/Disable, Privacy Mode Enable/Disable, Mic Enable/Disable, Switch Wi-Fi (switches between the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands), and Save Video.
Power Requirements: The M8 Max dash camera includes an 8.5' USB-C cable and an 11" hardwire power adapter harness with constant, switched power, and ground leads for connections to the vehicle electrical system (compatible with both 12-volt and 24-volt systems). This provides power for both cameras. When the switched power lead is energized, the camera is powered on and ready to begin recording. When the car is parked, ECO mode can be activated and the constant power lead will continue to power the camera and its motion and impact sensors, with very little power draw. The M8 Max's ECO mode consumes up to 90% less battery power than most dash cameras, giving you longer-lasting parking protection. The optional OBD8 harness (sold separately) provides a direct plug-in at the vehicle OBD-II port for your power and ground connections, without having to splice wires.
Momento Dash Cam Viewer App: The Momento M8 App, available for iOS and Android devices, provides a live viewer of video from your M8 Max dash cam. In addition to the setup and configuration pages, the Momento app allows you to review, edit, and download video recorded by your M8 Max dash camera. Once you have downloaded and edited the video, you can share your footage on social media sites such as Facebook. The app keeps track of data recorded by the GPS antenna: mileage, trip time, speed, and the number of events that occurred in the selected time period.
- Live View: Lets you view live video from the dash cam and any connected optional cameras.
- Note: The dash camera won't record while Live View is on.
- Gallery: Lets you view stored thumbnails of recorded footage from the dash cam, along with footage from optional installed cameras. Gallery settings include Aspect Ratio (4:3 & 16:9), Zoom In/Out, Flip Image, Mirror Image, Wide View, and Download.
- Saved (Playback): Saved video files can be viewed while in off-line mode (dash cam is disconnected). This page also lets you export and delete saved video footage files. You can even view the vehicle's location on a map for saved videos (requires an internet connection).
- Settings: The Settings menu lets you customize the M8 Max. In addition to providing the dash cam Model Number, Firmware Version/Update via Wi-Fi, and Warranty Registration pages, the Settings menu also lets you select Parking Mode ECO On/Off for motion and impact sensing; Power Saver Cutoff Level (11-24.3 V); Impact, Radar & Motion Sensitivity adjustments; Audio Recording; Speaker Volume; Wi-Fi On/Off and Band; Voice Commands On/Off; manual Time/Date settings.
