Queen never sounded better!
Shawn from Von Ormy, TX on 7/7/2025
Starting over with vinyl after thirty years, I wanted a turntable that looked as good as it sounded. I chose the Music Hall Classic not only for its looks, but ease of set up and use. After almost a month of use, I am very happy with my choice. It sounds great with my vintage Kenwood 7600 receiver and new Elac speakers. It has been a great way to ease back into the world of vinyl. Very satisfied. Crutchfield came through with great support and advise as well.
Pros: Great sound, easy to use, beautiful. Great turntable for the price.

Works brilliantly with by Bang and Olufson speakers. The built-in pre-amp is a plus. Easy to set up. I also love that the needle automatically lifts when a record finishes. I left the lid off for a cleaner look. I've only had it for a month, but so far, all good.

I now have the unit up and running and am very satisficed. I will be contacting them today to purchase several items to support cleaning and maintenance of the unit. Thanks again the Crutchfield team!

This turntable wasn't even on my radar until Chuck at Crutchfield turned me onto it. I am glad he did. It fit my budget, has a sleek design and does everything I wanted it to do. Plus it sounds great. For an upper entry level turntable, this Music Hall Classic sure seems to behave like a mid-range. Loving it.
Pros: Classic design in a wood finish. Semi Automatic and the cartridge is pretty good too.
Cons: Cheap felt platter pad which I have upgraded

Excellent
William from Denali Park, AK on 1/24/2024
This is my first 'table, so I don't have anything with which to compare. This is a solid feeling and elegant looking piece that translates great sound, to my ear. I LOVE the (defeatable) auto-stop feature - I'm often doing dishes or not immediately nearby the 'table to stop the needle. I was hesitant of the touch button controls, but the buttons are very responsive, work flawlessly, and somehow work with the overall classic-slash-modern mashup aesthetic. Our floor isn't the most level, but the auto-leveling feet appear to be doing their job. I've had no skipping or poor tracking thus far. Bought as scratch/dent, but I have no idea what the flaw is. Excellent 'table! [Hooked up to a Denon AVR w/ Denton 85 speakers.]
Pros: Auto-stop (defeatable), built-in phono versatility, weight, looks, overall sound and interaction with the product.
Cons: None for me.

Solid TT sounds great.
Mike from Middle Village, NY on 3/31/2023
I've had this turntable for over a year. It's solid. I have no issues with hum, no issues with vibration, no issues with auto lift on any record I ever played. This replaced a project debut carbon. I did upgrade the stock cartridge to an AT VM750SH and it's amazing. The digital speed control works great, feels like a direct drive TT. If I had bought the Technics SL1500c I would have upgraded the 2m Red and would have been over 2k. I spoke to Roy Hall (owner of music hall) and asked him about this table, he feels it's one of the most under rated tables in this price range. I agree
Pros: Sound, looks.
Cons: Feet are a bit ugly, but found a replacement Stock cartridge is entry level, but sounds ok.

Pros: Easy setup and good sound
Cons: In the instructions it tells you to slide the counter weight to the line and done . Checking my scale that wasn't close.

Good but not great
Brad from Spokane, WA on 1/20/2023
Good balance between good looks and great sound! I was pleased with the sound, but would have upgraded to an Ortofon Red or comparable. One thing I noticed was a hum when using my Rotel MKII phono amp. I could only play it using Line in, and that was super quiet! Now I know my phono amp is very good, with gold-plated connections. I do not know if other turntables in this price range have this hum, but from what I can tell at this price range you are not going to get gold-plated connectors. Maybe that's the difference. I have good cables and it was grounded. I went ahead and for $500 more got the Technics SL-1300c and wow! What a difference. Virtually no hum when connected to my Rotel phono amp. And includes the Ortofon Red cartridge. If I did not have very good speakers and my Rotel amp, maybe this turntable would have been good enough. It was a huge upgrade from my AT-LP120 usb. This is a very good unit for the price. Line out to my amp sounded excellent!
Pros: Excellent sound from Line out; Auto lift and stop excellent and a great feature. Fast start/stop; quiet
Cons: Photo out noisy and unusable for me on my Rotel

It's beautiful! My first turntable in 30 years and I love it. No kidding. Set-up was easy, a few steps involved there, but when I lowered the needle on my first LP, a classic copy of a 1968 Howlin' Wolf recording, I broke into a huge smile! Just a wonderful feeling.

Beautiful turntable. I wanted that classic aesthetic of a wood base turntable with a clear lid, but also desired something that was somewhat automatic. I didn't want to sit around and watch it when playing a record. Love the semi-automatic nature of this turntable - it makes it more interactive than a fully automatic turntable but allows you the ability to walk away from it once you've started an album.

Return to Analogue
Christina from Merion Station, PA on 11/17/2022
This is the second turntable I have ever owned. The one I bought as a teenager eventually broke and I basically started listening to cassette tapes and CDs. A couple weeks ago, I resurrected my old Marantz receiver from the middle 1970s and decided to look for a reasonably priced turntable and a couple bookshelf speakers. The customer service representative at Crutchfield was immensely helpful and picked out a great match for my needs. I am thrilled will my new turntable and a return to the world of analogue listening. Looking forward to rebuilding my record collection.

Looks great, sounds even better
Jed from Providence, RI on 5/19/2022
Recently purchased this table, and am LOVING it so far. Not only is it gorgeous (it's a nice work of art!) the sound is FANTASTIC. "Smooth, rich sound" is how I'd describe it. Have played mostly jazz and soul/RB thus far; haven't tried any rock or classical yet. Assembly was fairly simple. (Having to do some assembly forces you to get to know the various parts. Included some pics here so you can see what that looks like.) Getting the counterweight/antiskid calibrated was a little wonky, but I'll probably want to play with that over time anyways. I really like the touch controls for the power and 33/45 buttons, and the auto-stop feature (which others have reported having some issues with) has worked great for me so far. (Part of the reason I ultimately chose the Classic over other similarly-priced options was because I wanted the auto-stop feature. Included cartridge/stylus sounds great...curious to see if I notice a difference once fully "broken in." I've been running it through my receiver's phono preamp, so I haven't yet compared that to the built-in phono pre-amp. (Kinda a pain as I have to move the inputs from "phono" to "line" on the back of my receiver to A/B test, but I'm sure some day I'll get bored and do it...lol.) All in all, I LOVE this turntable...the sound is great...a noticeable upgrade from my previous (cheap) Sony...and it's so enjoyable to use.
Pros: - Auto-stop is a really nice feature - Touch controls easy to use - Rich, smooth sound - Aesthetically beautiful
Cons: None yet

Failed pre-amp
Sergey from San Francisco, CA on 3/24/2022
It started well first - solid warm sound when playing classical LPs. I used a built-in pre-amp. However, after a month, it would take few minutes before the full sound "opens up": when switched on and starting to play a record, it first sounds low, and the full sound comes up after few mins. The pre-amp died after 3 months: turntable produces distorted sound in LINE switch position.
Pros: Good looking turntable
Cons: Failed pre-amp after 3 months

Music Hall Classic really is a CLASSIC!
Bernard from Paducah, KY on 3/8/2022
I've been playing vinyl for well over half a century (obviously I'm not young). I still buy NEW vinyl today. My collection includes everything from Bach to the Beatles - vocal, instrumental, et al. As soon as I saw the Music Hall Classic, I started investigating and reading the reviews. It came in last Saturday. Installation was a breeze, and, as always, the guys at Crutchfield were incredibly helpful. I've played old and new vinyl every day since. The lift-off and shut-off at the end are great; I like that the turntable not only turns off but also stops. Just look at it! It's gorgeous: It looks like a turntable, not like a piece of hardware!
Pros: So far, I love everything about it. The operation is smooth and the sound is great. I actually ordered a cartridge upgrade, but, when the table was installed, I returned the optional cartridge because the one supplied sounds fine.
Cons: None.

EXCELLENT
Mike from Elizabeth, CO on 12/25/2021
I elected to add a turntable to my gear. Did my fair share of research, here and other sites. Discovered a number of things, with the most notable being that the crew at Crutchfield's were by far, the most knowledgeable, friendly and never got tired of my questions! So, I pulled the trigger and decided to but the Music Hall Classic, and a AT VM95SH/H. The gear landed here in Colorado with 48 hours. Assembly was nothing, and ended up watching a YouTube video as it relates to fine tuning the tone arm ( Very very helpful!) Initial set up, was I used the phono amp in my Yammi RX-A2030 and installed the AT cartridge. sounded OK but not great- also had 2 minor issues 1) tone are picked up 2/3 of the way thru the last track and table wouldn't pick up at the end, when it did make it to the end. So, elected to use the MHC amp, and re wired on AVR, toggled the Semi Auto switch a couple times, and installed the Spirit Cartridge. Huge improvement, I then went to work on the Parametric Equalizer on the 2030 - and BANG nailed it. Am enjoying EXACTLY the sound I was seeking. Even my wife, who is basically tone deaf from being a Flight Attendant can hear and loves the difference between, SA CD's and streaming service. Bought a dozen or so 180g-200g albums, The Eagles -Desparado Elton John - Silver and of course Abbey Road dialed me back about 50 years. I could go on, but will stop and simply say, Thanks to all those who helped me and you can not go wrong with this turntable!
Pros: Ease of use, quality build, aesthetics
Cons: Tone arm install instructions co fusing - use YouTube

Brick, NJ
Randall from Brick, NJ on 11/29/2021
This is a very good table for the money, but the sound is the 'thick' and 'romantic' type (rather than fast and punchy), especially with the stock Sprit cartridge. Tone quality is excellent, and the auto-lift and shut off is nice to have, but it takes several 'end' rotations to kick in on mine (like about 4-6 rotations). I wish it picked up the arm sooner. The internal pre-amp is very good sounding.
Pros: Nice looking, auto-lift, excellent tone quality, touch controls are really nice and work well.
Cons: The sound is somewhat 'thick' and lacks clarity and separation. Auto-lift takes a long time at the end of a record.

What a difference one component can make! The step up from a 20 year old direct drive Sony turntable with an entry level cartridge to this is remarkable. It's clear that Music Hall knows exactly what it's doing when pairing their decks, with tonearms, stylus, and built in phono preamp. My system sounds far more dynamic regardless of what music I'm playing. Highs, mids, lows. All of them are vastly improved. The semi-automatic feature is nice too for when my ADHD kicks in and I get distracted. No more worries about the turntable running on and on. Great first purchase from Crutchfield!

As always, Crutchfield is the go-to for selecting the best piece of equipment for your specific situation - and I love out new Music Hall Classic. Great retro vibe, but more importantly it over delivers on value in this price range. We wanted the auto-return, which isn't available in all turntables. Nemo was a big help in talking through my requirements, and recommended the cork pad as an optional upgrade, which we bought. The sound of classic vinyl now fills the house again! Set up was simple with our wireless Sonos speakers and port. Plus, this turntable just looks good - walnut veneer beats black plastic any day. Thanks Crutchfield!

Great bang for the Hifi $$
Crutchfield customer from Fort Worth TX on 3/11/2021
Overall I was very pleased with this. For the price point you get a lot. Electronic speed change and semi auto operation. At end of the record the tonearm lifts and a few revolutions later the platter stops. Never heard the " groan " others have noted, just the servo for lifting the tone arm. Arm does not return to the tone arm rest, FYI. I tried the onboard preamp, not to bad. As was the installed Spirit cartridge. It took about 25-30 hours of play time to break in the cartridge. Being a tweaker, I think it could benefit from a cartridge upgrade. I still ended up using my phono stage. However during the 5 weeks of slinging vinyl, I would randomly have no output from the right speaker. This occured 5-6 times and only repeated itself the first time, then at random times. Each time I would change one thing to try and isolate it. Swapped preamp inputs, various interconnects, the tubes in my phono stage, and finally phono stage itself. I could never nail down the culprit. Drove me nuts. The last 10 days it was fine. I'm returning the unit before my 60 days are up. I feel I can't be 100% sure it isn't the turntable. My vintage Thorens ( yes the one disassembled on my bench ) never had that issue when connected to the same interconnects and phono stage. If I could of isolated the issue to my equipment I would probably still have it.
Pros: Features and price. Easy setup, built in phono preamp (that you can turn off) and included RCA interconnects. Surprisingly capable installed phono cartridge. Semi-auto operation.
Cons: Manual omits effective mass of the tonearm. Also cartridge compliance. If you want to upgrade the cartridge it would be nice to have these specs. Contacted Music Hall, they forwarded my email to Creek in the UK. Corporate black hole me thinks. Also I was unable to locate an extra headshell to buy. Just makes it easy to swap out cartridges. BTW the RCA jacks are pretty close together, only an issue if you have large connectors on your cables.

This Music "Hall" is a Classic !!!
Merv from Philadelphia, PA on 12/28/2020
I purchased this turntable and did not like the "Spirit" cartridge that came as standard issue so I called Music Hall's customer service directly (I wanted to mount a Ortofon 2m Bronze with the MKii plug n play headshell & wanted to check its compatibility). Much to my great surprise and joy, the founder and CEO of Music Hall--Roy Hall, picked up the phone and asked if he could be of assistance. That was a shocker, we discussed the compatibility of the headshell (not compatible), but we had a nice chat about his view of technology and his dedication to 2-channel stereo sound. The table itself is built extremely well and, on Mr. Hall's recommendation, I unplugged my Schiit Mani pre-amp and used the on-board Music Hall pre amp installed on the Classic. I rarely use manufacturers pre amps because they generally are a throw-in for newbie vinyl afficianados to minimize their set-up and complexity. However, the on-board preamp was apparently tuned for the Music Hall preamp because it suddenly came to life with no other modifications. Mr. Hall is truly dedicated to his company and true reproduction of sound. Based on this conversation, I recently bought the Music Hall 15.3 integrated amp and its 15.3 cd-dac sibling. Great values for my back-up rec room system. For the $$$ ($600), this table beats everything in its class.....and why not buy from a company whose CEO exudes as much class as his products. Well done....
Pros: Quality Build; quiet gimbal tonearm; swiss army knife functionality (i.e., auto stop/4 prong cartridge headshell options); great customer service.
Cons: The cartridge, though tweaked by Music Hall's engineers still has a basic AT-95E heart; At this price point, this is a gem of a table & really shines with a cartridge upgrade.

Bought this to replace a Teac 300N that never was right. Love this turntable the quality and workmanship stand out ! The only thing I don't like is the turntable felt mat, it is not quite centered and kinda wobbles around. Yeah the noise when the record ends and the arm lifts is a little annoying but kinda of expected because there has to be some kind of resistance. Still I feel it is hands down a huge improvement over the Teac !

Great jumping off point for new vinyl enthusiasts
Crutchfield customer from Alexandria, VA on 8/11/2020
As usual, Crutchfield is awesome. I'm a electronics junky and a bargain hunter. While Crutchfield doesn't always have the best price (for pre-owned) they always provide the best customer experience. I can also count on them to make sure pre-owned items are in excellent working order. I ordered the Music Hall Classic from their scratch and dent inventory and it was delivered in less than two days. The turntable itself looks and sounds great. I'm just getting into vinyl and this table is a good starting point. To my ears, this table and the records sound warmer and fuller than the typical digital music I listen to. The auto stop is convenient and the pre-amp built in is also a nice touch.
Pros: Warm full sound. Great vintage look. Auto-stop feature and built in pre-amp.
Cons: The platter "groans" when auto-stop kicks in. The feet are ugly. Music Hall doesn't offer and upgrade for the platter.

Very nice addition to my system
Crutchfield customer from Atlanta, GA on 7/14/2020
This is a much higher quality turntable than the TEAC TN440S (1 1/2 yr old) that it replaced account the motor going out. MM Cartridge and general solid feel to the components are an enhancement, and sound quality is fuller/richer. The walnut base and general looks enrich my electronics and cabinet. The only problem is in the Semi-auto return/shutoff. Makes a groaning sound briefly, more than even my original 1974 Duel TT (still operating). I will talk to Crutchfield to see if this is common.
Pros: MM Cartridge and general solid feel to the components are an enhancement, and sound quality is fuller/richer. Walnut base contrasts well with the chrome-trimmed platter and arm. Even appreciated when not playing.
Cons: Semi-auto shutoff makes a groaning sound briefly when lifting the needle.

Seems like it is well made. However, the one I got didn't function correctly. It took 5 or 6 "bumps" at the end of the record to finally lift the tonearm...3 albums it wouldn't lift at all. And when the arm lifted, it made a squealing sound like the belt was slipping. Return it to Crutchfield. A+ for the great customer service.

Exceptional value and great sound

I spent a lot of time comparing turntables before deciding to the Classic to my very modest setup. With a budget of under $800, I had planned to upgrade the cartridge, platter, and pre-amp later on. Setup was very easy and I was impressed with the good looks and build quality. My setup is with a Yamaha A-S501 and a pair of Polk TS-i300's. Right out of the box, the Classic sounded great and now I'm not planning on those upgrades any time soon. The Classic's low end is defined and does not need any help from the Yamaha's EQ. The high end is clear without unpleasant harshness. My older records (used and yard-sale treasures) sounded much better than on my old table and my newer heavy vinyl records sound amazing. If you are a new vinyl enthusiast and want something nicer than the typical entry level tables, this is a great choice. The preinstalled cartridge and built-in pre-amp are a great match and make getting started a breeze. The one add-on I would suggest would be a set of acoustic isolators, such as those made by IsoAcoustics (also sold by Crutchfield). I get a little rumble, but this may just be the room and the furniture I have the table on. Depending on your tastes, you may at some point want a tube pre, but I would suggest seeing how you like the built-in pre first. All in all, this is an excellent able for the money and beginner or even more seasoned vinyl lovers will not be disappointed.
Pros: Sound quality, good looks, ease of set up.
Cons: Semi-auto tone arm return mechanism is a little noisy, but it can be disabled (I don't use it).
