Perfect unit for my transferring needs.
Christopher from Honolulu, HI on 7/4/2025
Five stars for transferring an LP info into my DAW via PA2.2?s analog ports. I?m waiting on a long USB cable to test the digital out. It?s supposed to be delivered tomorrow Of course, I?m gonna test it ASAP, and write a review update with the result. So far, so very very good, and I?m expecting to give 5 stars for the digital out as well. Great unit, guys !!
Pros: Ably replaces my dying Macintosh hi-fi unit from the 70?s, both in input flexibility and accurate analog spectral tranfer. Digital testing to come. (see Cons)
Cons: No big deal, but I did need to purchase a longer USB cable than the one that comes with the unit, in order to place it efficiently into my studio setup.

Music Hall 2.2 Phone Amp Reviee
Joshua from Rockford, IL on 6/5/2025
Very easy to setup. Bought a 2nd one after buying one for my TT. The 1st one added some "warmth" to my powered speakers. Before I had my TT going directly to my powered speakers. The addition was noticeable but not over powering. 2nd one was added between my 70's Receiver's Pre-Amp Out and Line-In on "all-in-one" streamer. Prior to adding, the Line-In input sounded "tingy". The Music Hall 2.2 did an excellent job of smoothing out the sound. So having the option to switch from Phono to Line-In on the Music Hall is a great feature! I didn't see this option on other similar priced phono amps. Been very happy with both units!

Music Hall PA2.2
Sean Charles from Cheyenne, WY on 11/25/2024
I bought the Music Hall PA2.2 to sit between an ATLP120x turntable and an old Jolida 502A tube integrated. The Music Hall phono stage provides all the sonic improvements I'd hoped for over the built-in stage in the ATLP120. Those sonic improvements alone are worth the cost of the PA2.2. The addition of the headphone-out and the mono switch are HUGE bonuses for this machine. I only listen to vinyl on this system and between the audiophile-grade phono stage, the headphone amp, and the mono switch, my enjoyment of my vinyl collection has exploded thanks to the PA2.2. I'm having a blast hearing my collection for the first time all over again!

Great little box!
Curtis from Burlingame, CA on 6/22/2024
Great little box! Worked out great. Gives my records some depth and low end (maybe a little too much at times.) Still it worked right outta the box! Had trouble with a previous puchase of another phono preamp, so this was my second choice. It also matches (same brand) my Music Hall USB-1 player great.

Good choice for digitizing
Daniel from Woodside, NY on 5/20/2024
I've only used it once so far but very happy with the results. As a DJ, been looking for a decent way to digitize records. Was using a cheaper phono pre-amp, into a MOTU interface and was having issues with noise. This simplifies the process by removing one step, no need to have extra cables, worry about an additional interfaces pre-amps and settings, and this is a better preamp than the cheaper one. It sounds good to me, and it's built in ADC seems to do the job. Being able to use it as a headphone amp during ripping, or just for listening is an added bonus.
Pros: Headphone amp and built in ADC with USB out.
Cons: None so far.

The Crutchfield experience and Music Hall PA 2.2 preamp
Stephen from Verona, WI on 2/14/2024
I'm using the music hall PA2.2 as the digital interface to transform my analog vinyl collection of albums to digital copies. The ease with which the preamp with line level input also allows me to take sone unique cassette records made back in the 70's and 80's to digital. This one device has transformed the entire process from analog to digital conversion aided only by an exceptional refurbished cassette deck, an ADS C2/3. The digital copies recorded using audacity are exceptional and while recording I listen to the tracks with SONY studio monitor series stereo headphones. The music hall preamp produces an exceptional stereo sound stage with clarity and separation that I had not had with just the Yahama R-N303 receiver before. The preamp is manufactured exceptionally well, gold plated RCA connectors, the smoothest volume control I have ever felt and high quality switches to adapt to a multitude of inputs and situations. If you shop at Crutchfield then you are one of the enlightened. A astonishing breath of product and exceptional customer service. They could teach the practices of Shipping and Handling anywhere in the world. If you don't purchase from Crutchfiled then try them. They won't fail to please in both variety of the highest quality electronics and customer satisfaction.
Pros: Superb analog to digital conversion in a small footprint, near perfect stereo sound stage with support for MM / MC cartridges and solid line level input for cassette and CD.
Cons: None. Just a delightful piece of kit

Outstanding performance for the $
Kevin from Bella Vista, AR on 11/16/2023
The Music Hall AP2.2 provides my component set up with an immediately noticeable improvement to my LP playback. As an "elderly" non-professional / audiophile wanna-be, but knows what a very good rock & roll / blues system sounds like, this pre-amp provides an immediate 3-D audio improvement to my vinyl collection compared to the Cambridge Duo that proceeded it. (Not knocking the Cambridge, and I'll find it a new home) Don't let the old-school toggle switches on the front panel scare you. The switches are high quality, positive and provide an easy-to-see the status. Absolutely clean /quiet - For anyone that wants to stay under the $1k range for a phono / headphone preamp, this is your pick - The ability to plug-in a tape deck, tuner or CD player into your system is all BONUS!
Pros: Provides optional control(s) e.g; Line-In, Phase, MC / MM, adjustable gain and headphone jack in addition to providing stellar phono pre-amp performance.
Cons: I waited too long to replace my previous pre-amp.

Need to be computer savvy to use the USB out
Michael from Opelika, AL on 7/19/2023
I would have rated 4 or 5 if I could have had better tech support from Crutchfield and then Music Hall. More about that later. It is a beautiful high quality component. Music Hall is clearly serious about making great equipment. Having full time line inputs for my turntable and tape deck is very handy. On my frustration with tech support. I could not get the USB output providing sound at my computer(s). I consider myself above average with PC skills. I called Crutchfield and they said that we don't / can't help you with computer issues. They did refer me to the Music Hall tech support website. I connected to the Music Hall site and entered my problem via a web page. Music Hall assigned the following support ticket to my problem 5648132763422499996 but then they never replied. I was left on my own. Fortunately I have a computer expert software engineer as a neighbor and he was able to poke around on my computer and got me running. So in summary great hardware and concept. Be prepared to solve your own USB issues.

Best of MoFi, Music Hall and Cambridge Duo
Rob from Atlanta, GA on 1/31/2022
Really happy with this unit. I tried out the MoFI and the Cambridge Duo, connected up to my Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo turntable. I've got a set of Audeze LCD Classic 2 headphones and a Sonos Port connected up. Of the 3 I tried out, the Music Hall sounded the cleanest and had the most "umph" to the volume. Solid feeling piece of gear.
Pros: Sound, feel, really everything.
Cons: None yet.

William from Lebanon, OH on 12/8/2021
Superb. Matched perfectly (electrical specs) to my cartridge (Shure v15 type iv) and turntable (Sony ps-x600). Wonderful to listen to my records again. Mostly classical and a fair amount of 60's 70's rock - for the most part, my classical collection isn't available any other way. No CDs, no online.
Pros: Electrically matched to cartridge and turntable. Great sound.
Cons: None

Music Hall PA2.2
scott from GOSHEN, CT on 1/15/2021
I'm very pleased with this little gem. I had need for 2 specific features, neither of which was actually a turntable preamp... I wanted a headphone amp with attached volume control, and I wanted an additional line level input attached to that volume control so I could conveniently use my iPad with my stereo amplifier and tower speakers. This device does all that perfectly. Obviously it also has a phono preamp, which I did not especially need as my player has a built in preamp, but I suspect almost anyone looking at this unit will have started off looking for a phono preamp, kind of backwards from my approach, and it does a fine job in that application. No added electrical hum or white noise, which is always a concern when adding components to a system that includes a turntable. It's an ideal unit for any or all of these functions.

Faulty device, toxic Music Hall customer service
Eugene from HUDSON, MA on 10/31/2020
Two years into ownership, I had the opportunity to test the MC side of the unit. It turns out one channel did not work. Since I was past Crutchfield's warranty/return window, they recommended I contact Music Hall, which I did. I asked them if exists any options for unit, such as: rebuild, replace, discount on new unit. After expressing disappointment, I received from MH a very snarky email asking me if I would anticipate an auto manufacturer to address a similar concern 12 months post warranty. (I did once and they did cover the costly repair expenses.). Their response was unnecessary and, pun intended, backfired.
Pros: MM side of the unit worked as appropriate.
Cons: Two years in, either the MC side didn't work or never did. Insulting Toxic Music Hall customer service.

Works Great with my Ortofon Quintet Black S
Edgar from Wausau, WI on 12/20/2019
This is an excellent phono preamp regardless of cartridge. It has peer performance with phono amps costing 4 times its price and is thus a bargain. It handles low output MC catridges like my Quintet Black with aplomb while maintaining a virtually silent noise floor. It also was excellent with my previous 2M Black and clearly resolves the differences between the 2 cartridges. Strongly recommended! If you are considering a multi thousand dollar phono amp you are doing yourself a diservice if you don't try this one first. Whatever you save you can spend on a nicer turntable or cartridge!
Pros: Audiophile grade sound
Cons: None

It's great to finally hear my records again.
Crutchfield customer from New York, NY on 8/4/2019
It's great to finally hear my records again. It's been a while since receivers had a phono input so the records started collecting dust. I bought a cheap phono pre-amp and it was a waste of money. Now my albums sound the way they're supposed to: clean, full range and with plenty of gain. The only problem is now I want to purchase a new stylus! I was considering the NAD PP 2e because it had similar reviews but I wanted to start digitizing my collection so I went with the Music Hall because it has the USB connection. It also has a line input so I can digitize my cassettes through it as well. I haven't used the USB yet but I'm looking forward to it. I recommend this unit. PS Crutchfield has the best customer service anywhere. Their reps are actually knowledgeable about the gear they sell and they'll will connect you with an engineer if you have a technical problem. But you probably already know that if you are purchasing from them.
Pros: Clean sound, rugged, compact, line in, A/D converter w/ USB, headphone
Cons: Haven't found one yet

Solves a problem...and sounds great
Jeff from Phoenix, AZ on 4/5/2019
I decided to consolidate my den set-up by connecting my TV ( through HDMI ARC) and turntable to a new Sonos Amp. My turntable doesn't have a pre-amp, and the Sonos Amp, whole a wonderful device, does not have a headphone jack. The Music Hall PA2.2 does everything you need a pre-amp to do, plus it allows me to listen to records through a completely analog signal path using my headphones. I don't intend to digitize my vinyl collection, but the on-board ADC will likely make this unit even more useful for others. The mono setting is another great feature, and, of particular importance for a Sonos setting, the PA2.2 lets you choose between fixed and variable line level outputs. Very happy with my purchase.
Pros: Sounds great. Fixed or variable output. Integrated headphone amp. Great build quality.
Cons: None so far.

Awesome!!
Steven from Odessa, TX on 7/17/2017
I just upgraded to a Teac TN-570 turntable with a built in pre-amp, and the sound was great. With the small size of the Music Hall PA2.2 phono pre-amp, and good reviews, I decided to give it a try on my system. I experienced even better rich, wonderful room filling sound. This small pre-amplifier is amazing! I highly recommend it to anyone wanting amazing sound from their vinyl collection. Set up was very easy, and done in 5-10 minutes. I would recommend some higher quality RCA jacks to get the most out of the amplifier.
Pros: handles MM and MC cartridges. Small size great sound adjustable volume
Cons: None

Excellent sound!
Ed from Snohomish, WA on 1/21/2017
Had to buy this elsewhere because it is not yet available at Crutchfield, but would have bought from Crutchfield if I could have - they are the best place to buy audio from online. Compared and A-B'd this against a Cambridge CP1 and found the audio quality to be more detailed and to my ears, it had a slightly larger sound stage -honestly very very close though. Despite the specs (lower signal to noise ratios than the CP1), when I recorded silence to computer (needle up, record spinning) I found this to actually be a tad more quiet than the CP1 on my setup. (highest signal at -74.7 db vs -72.4 for the CP1). Some other nice features are that you can digitize other audio sources because it has a line-in. Also, you don't need to turn on your amp when digitizing vinyl - that goes direct to computer. Its a mini-headphone amp to boot! I was concerned that it was doing too many things and sound quality would suffer, but has not seemed to be the case. Given that I liked the sound better, and add the 24 bit/96K Wolfson ADC for digitizing my records, support for MC and MM cartridges, this was a no-brainer. Excellent phono pre!
Pros: Soundstage Highly detailed sound Very very quiet 24 bit/96 KHz ADC Line-in
Cons: None at this time.
