Features

Thin-Film Technology & Controlled Dispersion: By using advanced Thin-film Technology and Controlled Dispersion, the MartinLogan Motion F20 floorstanding loudspeaker delivers excellent high frequency response from its Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeter (FMT) and Folded Motion Waveguide. The Gen2 Obsidian FMT uses a folded thin-film diaphragm to compress and expand air, creating a large surface area that delivers fast, accurate, and detailed high frequency reproduction. The integrated Folded Motion Wave Guide creates Controlled Dispersion to minimizes sound degrading early reflections by controlling the spread of sound from the tweeter into the room, enhancing your listening experience with greater clarity, and expanded placement options in the room.

  • Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeter (FMT): The Motion F20 features MartinLogan's latest and greatest Thin-Film Technology, the Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeter (FMT) - measuring 1" x 1.4". With an upgraded motor structure, the latest Gen2 Obsidian FMT provides higher output and lower distortion than ever before. The Gen2 Obsidian FMT's internal improvements elevate performance to new heights for a clean, detailed, and accurate high frequency response.
  • Folded Motion Waveguide: The Folded Motion Waveguide profile was meticulously chosen to harmoniously align the tweeter's output with the dispersion of the midrange/bass driver, resulting in enhanced output. The waveguide guarantees consistent sound quality regardless of the listener's position and minimizes unwanted room reflection for Controlled Dispersion of 90-degrees (h) x 90-degrees (v). Proper waveguide design is crucial as it helps control the sound's dispersion pattern, ensuring that the sound is evenly distributed across the listening area and resulting in optimal sound quality.

5.5" Woven-Fiberglass Midrange Driver: In addition to the 1" x 1.4" Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeter & Waveguide, the MartinLogan Motion F20 floorstanding loudspeaker features a 5.5" Woven-Fiberglass midrange driver with a rubber surround and cast polymer basket. The lightweight and strong Woven-Fiberglass midrange driver is perfectly suited for keeping pace with the Gen2 Obsidian FMT, providing crystal clear dialog and vocals, as well as lifelike instrumentals.

Dual 6.5" Aluminum Bass Woofers: The MartinLogan Motion F20 floorstanding loudspeaker houses two 6.5" aluminum bass woofers with rubber surrounds and cast polymer baskets. The exceptional characteristics of aluminum make it an ideal choice for bass drivers. The dual 6.5" aluminum bass woofers are paired with oversized motor structures, Floor Bounce Compensation technology, and a downward-firing port that make the Motion F20 speaker extremely easy to place in any room while providing outstanding bass performance at any volume. Floor Bounce Compensation combines precision woofer placement and crossover tuning to produce a more natural and full sound by taking advantage of a constant found in all listening rooms - the presence of a floor.

McCracken-Vojtko Crossover: Carefully designed using proprietary measurement and simulation software, plus tuned using double-blind listening, the McCracken-Vojtko 3-way crossover perfectly melds the 1" x 1.4" Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeter, one 5.5" Woven-Fiberglass midrange driver, and two 6.5" aluminum bass woofers together for a cohesive and beautiful sound.

Bass Reflex MDF Cabinet: The Motion F20 floorstanding loudspeaker employs a solid built cabinet design to eliminate fidelity robbing vibrations. The speaker cabinet is constructed from MDF (medium density fiberboard) with an extra-thick front baffle and additional internal bracing to further reduce cabinet resonance. On the bottom of the cabinet is a down-firing "single-cannon" port which helps the speaker provide deeper, cleaner, and more powerful bass across a broader range of placement options. The cabinet is available in three finishes - Satin White, Walnut Veneer, or Gloss Black.

Dual Binding Posts: The Motion F20 is outfitted with two sets of binding posts allowing you to bi-amp or bi-wire the floorstanding speaker. These binding posts ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and bare wire (up to 10AWG).

  • Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier (the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).
  • Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.
Note: If you decide to bi-wire or bi-amp, you must remove the jumpers between the terminal posts (failure to do this could result in damage to your amplifier and loudspeakers).

Mounting & Placement Options: The F20 floorstanding speaker includes MartinLogan's F.A.S.T. Outrigger Feet that allow effortless, tool-free height adjustment and the option for rubber isolators or spikes. The rubber isolators are great for hardwood, laminate, tile, vinyl and other hard surface flooring. The spikes should only be used on carpeted surfaces (the spikes can damage hard surface flooring). You can adjust the height of each foot to accommodate uneven flooring for maximum stability. The F.A.S.T. Outrigger Feet and the rubber isolators or spikes provide anti-vibration properties to reduce the transfer of energy from the speaker to the floor, resulting in lower distortion and coloration - providing a more accurate and detailed sound.

  • Dimensions with Rubber Isolators: 11.8125" (w) x 44.0625" (h) x 14.3125" (d)
  • Dimensions with Spikes: 11.8125" (w) x 44.5625" (h) x 14.3125" (d)

Note: The Motion F20 should always be used with the F.AS.T. Outrigger Feet and rubber isolators or spikes installed for optimum sound performance and maximum stability.

Placement Options: Although the F20 floorstanding speaker is designed to deliver a superb sonic performance when placed close to a wall, you may notice improved imaging and detail if you are able to place the speaker 2' or more' from the rear wall and 2' or more from the side walls. To achieve the best stereo imaging, a pair of speakers should form an equilateral triangle between each other and the main seated listening position. To enhanced the stereo image even more, you should angle (or "toe-in") a pair of speakers toward the primary listening position.

Motion Series: MartinLogan's Motion Series is inspired by the performance of their top-of-the-line electrostatic speakers and is perfect for music or home cinema lovers. Pairing high-performance Woven Fiberglass midrange/bass drivers with the latest Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeter technology. With a bold new look and a suite of new audio upgrades, the Motion series is ready to impress in your home. Through a rigorous development process involving anechoic chamber measurements, blind listening tests, and in room measurements MartinLogan crafted a more refined sound for the Motion Series that is a whole new level of quality and excellence. The Motion Series consists of two floorstanding loudspeakers (Motion F10/F20), a bookshelf loudspeaker (Motion B10), a center-channel speaker (Motion C10), and a Surround loudspeaker (Motion MP10).

Optional Powered Subwoofer: Add on an optional MartinLogan powered subwoofer (sold separately - see Accessories Tab) for bigger and deeper bass response when listening to your movie and music soundtracks.

Q
Do you need a 300w per channel amp to run these speakers safely?
reece  Sep 19, 2023
1 answer
A
You do not, Reece. With the MartinLogan Motion F20's, 300-watts RMS would be the maximum wattage you could match, and that would provide the ultimate in performance. These are also rated for a minimum of 20-watts RMS, so they can sound good on even that small amount of power! A solid quality integrated amp at around the 100-watts RMS per channel range would be a really nice pairing in my opinion for all-around use. The Yamaha A-S701 in the handy link below would be a great call for an integrated amp with solid sound quality! If you are looking for maximum performance, you can always pair amps that get closer to the 300-watts max RMS. These MartinLogan Motion F20's sound crisp yet smooth, I am a big fan! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_022AS701B/Yamaha-A-S701-Black.html

Greetings Reece. Thank you for your question. The power range is a minimum 20 watts of power all the way to 300 watts of power. Anything between that can run these, however speakers will sound better the closer you can get to that top level of the power range.
