Features
Thin-Film Technology & Controlled Dispersion: By using advanced Thin-film Technology and Controlled Dispersion, the MartinLogan Motion XT F200 floorstanding loudspeaker delivers excellent high frequency response from its Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeter (FMT) XT and Folded Motion Waveguide. The Gen2 Obsidian FMT XT uses a folded thin-film diaphragm to compress and expand air, creating a large surface area that delivers fast, accurate, and detailed high frequency reproduction. The integrated Folded Motion Wave Guide creates Controlled Dispersion to minimizes sound degrading early reflections by controlling the spread of sound from the tweeter into the room, enhancing your listening experience with greater clarity, and expanded placement options in the room.
- Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeter (FMT) XT: The Motion XT F200 features MartinLogan's proprietary Thin-Film Technology, the Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeter (FMT) XT - measuring 1.25" x 2.4". The Gen2 Obsidian FMT XT Tweeter has been upgraded with a larger motor structure to provide higher output and lower distortion. The FMT XT offers effortless, detailed sound with a 40% increase in surface area compared to MartinLogan's signature FMT. The Gen2 Obsidian FMT XT's upgraded design elevates its performance to new heights for a clean, detailed, and accurate high frequency response.
- Folded Motion Waveguide: The Folded Motion Waveguide profile was meticulously chosen to harmoniously align the tweeter's output with the dispersion of the midrange/bass driver, resulting in enhanced output. The waveguide guarantees consistent sound quality regardless of the listener's position and minimizes unwanted room reflection for Controlled Dispersion of 90-degrees (h) x 45-degrees (v). Proper waveguide design is crucial as it helps control the sound's dispersion pattern, ensuring that the sound is evenly distributed across the listening area and resulting in optimal sound quality.
Nomex-Reinforced Kevlar Midrange Driver: The Motion XT F200 houses a single 6.5" Nomex-Reinforced Kevlar midrange driver with a rubber surround and cast aluminum basket. The Nomex-Reinforced Kevlar cone midrange driver offers the perfect balance of lightweight, strength, anti-resonance and anti-ringing properties for unparalleled sound quality. The Nomex-Reinforced Kevlar cone midrange driver is perfectly suited for keeping pace with the Gen2 Obsidian FMT XT, providing clarity of vocals with dialog and instrumental accuracy at any volume level.
Triple Aluminum Bass Woofers: The MartinLogan Motion XT F200 floorstanding loudspeaker houses three 8" aluminum bass woofers with rubber surrounds and cast aluminum baskets. The exceptional characteristics of aluminum make it an ideal choice for bass drivers. The three 8" aluminum bass woofers are paired with oversized motor structures, Floor Bounce Compensation technology, and a downward-firing port that make the Motion XT F200 speaker extremely easy to place in any room while providing outstanding bass performance at any volume. Floor Bounce Compensation combines precision woofer placement and crossover tuning to produce a more natural and full sound by taking advantage of a constant found in all listening rooms - the presence of a floor.
McCracken-Vojtko Crossover: Carefully designed using proprietary measurement and simulation software, plus tuned using double-blind listening, the McCracken-Vojtko 3-way crossover perfectly melds the 1.25" x 2.4" Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeter XT, one, 6.5" Nomex-Reinforced Kevlar midrange driver, and three 8" aluminum bass woofers together for a cohesive and beautiful sound.
Bass Reflex MDF Cabinet: The Motion XT F200 floorstanding loudspeaker employs a solid built cabinet design to eliminate fidelity robbing vibrations. The speaker cabinet is constructed from MDF (medium density fiberboard) with an extra-thick front baffle and additional internal bracing to further reduce cabinet resonance. The down-firing port helps speaker efficiency and bass performance. The cabinet is available in three finishes - Satin White, Walnut Veneer, or Gloss Black.
Dual Binding Posts: The Motion XT F200 is outfitted with two sets of binding posts allowing you to bi-amp or bi-wire the floorstanding loudspeaker. These binding posts ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and bare wire (up to 10AWG).
- Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier (the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).
- Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.
Outrigger Feet with Rubber & Spike Options: The XT F200 floorstanding speaker includes MartinLogan's F.A.S.T. Outrigger Feet that allow effortless, tool-free height adjustment and the option for rubber isolators or spikes. The rubber isolators are great for hardwood, laminate, tile, vinyl and other hard surface flooring. The spikes should only be used on carpeted surfaces (the spikes can damage hard surface flooring). You can adjust the height of each foot to accommodate uneven flooring for maximum stability. The F.A.S.T. Outrigger Feet and the rubber isolators or spikes provide anti-vibration properties to reduce the transfer of energy from the speaker to the floor, resulting in lower distortion and coloration - providing a more accurate and detailed sound.
- Dimensions with Rubber Isolators: 13.8125" (w) x 50.0" (h) x 16.5625" (d)
- Dimensions with Spikes: 13.8125" (w) x 50.5" (h) x 16.5625" (d)
Note: The Motion XT F200 should always be used with the F.AS.T. Outrigger Feet and rubber isolators or spikes installed for optimum sound performance and maximum stability.
Placement Options: Although the XT F200 floorstanding speaker is designed to deliver a superb sonic performance when placed close to a wall, you may notice improved imaging and detail if you are able to place the speaker 2' or more' from the rear wall and 2' or more from the side walls. To achieve the best stereo imaging, a pair of speakers should form an equilateral triangle between each other and the main seated listening position. To enhanced the stereo image even more, you should angle (or "toe-in") a pair of speakers toward the primary listening position.
Motion XT Series: The Motion XT line, or "eXTreme" line, is MartinLogan's highest performance tier of their Motion Series speakers. The Motion XT Series of loudspeakers is all about more - more detail, more clarity, and more power. The Motion XT Series pairs high-performance Nomex-Reinforced Kevlar midrange/bass drivers with MartinLogan's highest performance Gen2 Folded Motion XT Tweeter. Through a rigorous development process involving anechoic chamber measurements, blind listening tests, and in room measurements MartinLogan crafted a more refined modern sound for the Motion XT Series that is a whole new level of quality and excellence. The Motion XT Series consists of two floorstanding loudspeakers (XT F100/XT F200), a bookshelf loudspeaker (XT B100), and center-channel speaker (XT C100).
Optional Powered Subwoofer: Add on an optional MartinLogan powered subwoofer (sold separately - see Accessories Tab) for bigger and deeper bass response when listening to your movie and music soundtracks.

These MartinLogans are a significant upgrade from my Polk LSim 705's. The sound is brighter, clearer, more upfront, and (significantly) distortion-free when my 400 watt/channel AVM amp is applied. Totally recommend.
