Primo piece of equipment.
Mark from Fort Morgan, CO on 6/8/2025
Excellent component for any larger stereo system. Archiving any old media to disk is handy and being able to enter album and track information manually is even handier. Couldn't be happier.

Sound quality very good, smaller sized and fits in confined spaces, Haven't recorded yet from an LP yet. Crutchfield has been sending car speakers, TVs and other electronics for 30 years to my home, always a great experience with top quality sent to my home.
Pros: Sound quality and physical size of the unit, Remote control playback controls work well.
Cons: Only negatives so far is color of display and unable to dim or turn it off. Also view meters display should only be visible on record not during playback. One more thing, would be nice to have an ON-OFF for the unit on the remote.

Functional and good-looking!
Nicholas from CENTERVILLE, WA on 1/28/2025
Not much to say, but that is OK. Not too many CD player/recorders on the market, but I needed a new unit so I could convert my vinyl to CD - that's just how I roll. I have always been aware of TASCAM as more of a brand associated with recording studios, so this rig is probably more than I really need. However, I'm glad I bought it. Sure, it plays CDs just fine, and I have not set up for any recording yet, but what I am impressed by is the simple, efficient look and how the controls are laid out. It takes me back to older components I owned, before everything became too high-tech. This TASCAM has no retracting trays or fold-down doors that will inevitably break or jam and get discs stuck inside (been there, done that). The VU meter display is an amber LCD-style presentation that looks old-school and contemporary and fits with my sense of form and style (or whatever you call that). Otherwise, a solid unit and a good value. I look forward to making more CDs from my vinyl collection. I'm keeping both, of course - much to my wife's chagrin.
Pros: Easy set-up Simple controls layout Kinda retro, kinda contemporary appearance
Cons: None

Crutchfield customer from Lynchburg, VA on 1/4/2025
It came on the day they said it was, which i was very happy. I had to ask a friend to explain about the inputs and out puts but, after that I mounted it and hooked it up to my mixing console and pa and put in some Bestles cd and it sounded great. Easy to use, this is my first rackmounted cd player. I would definitely recommend that player to everyone Thanks again CRUTCHFIELD, John M.
Pros: Easy to use once you go over the manual.
Cons: No cons

Perfect for Home Recording Studios & More!
Mike from Hugo, MN on 9/4/2024
I have been using the TASCAM CD-RW900MKII for years now in my home studio and have had nothing but great experiences with them. Now I have the pleasure of using the CD-RW900SX. I love the fact that it still has the optical capability as I can burn my finished music directly from my DAW into the unit. TASCAM makes it very easy to clock to my computer by having multiple input frequencies. I also like the new carriage that this unit has compared to older units. There are so many features to many to mention in this format. If you are looking to back your songs up or simply burn cds for car or home use this is a great choice. This is also a great unit to use with your home stereo system. Another bonus is that you can add this to your recording rack or remove the mounts to place into a stereo stand. Buy with confidence. There aren't many options out there these days for the format if recording is an option that you need. I am not settling by buying this unit by any means I am very happy that I have this unit and recommend it to anybody. Buying this unit from Crutchfield was a no brainer. Their customer service is unbeatable, in this day and age that is a very rare thing. Once again buy with confidence. No hassles here!

Does not work
Joseph from BRONX, NY on 8/7/2024
Had to return two of these. Once one or two track are recorded then all sorts of error messages appeared, jamming the menu options preventing further recording (with only five or six minutes of the 79 minutes of the cdr-w used or playback. Customer service had me reset the machine to factory default but even after that the player would still not work because the error message was still appearing. When finally able to make a recording once more the same problems would re-occur. Not only were these problems occuring with both units, the first one began playing my CDs slowly. A Crutchfield representative heard this over the phone. I wanted it for simple karaoke recording. All I did was follow the steps for recording and playback. Again, on the first unit it often sounded like an old 45 played back at 33_1/3. Never encountered that on any previous player nor did the customer service representative as well. This is not reflective of Crutchfield. They are still number one in my book.
Pros: None
Cons: Need worth repeating?

new to brand
Steve from Tiffin, OH on 2/2/2024
this unit looks and plays to a very high performance that i want. The cd player is very smooth and i think with the reverb and the many other functions it performs to the label professional for a reason. Do not let that fool you as it is pretty easy to use and i am not a sound engineer by any means; I looked at several players and i finally kept coming back to this one because of the reviews. It sounds and functions amazingly good so glad i got the right one the first time-would buy it again without any reservations. Crutchfield has been johnny on the spot with fast ship, excellent prices and stocking items and by the way my Klipsch speakers were a great deal and also sound so sweet thanks Crutchfield
Pros: what can i say super
Cons: none sound system sounds like i have a live performance

Good machine, lousy instrcutions
Todd from Camillus, NY on 8/13/2023
I've just started to use this and the product itself seems to work well. The instructions are atrocious though. They don't tell you everything you need to know and they're hard to follow at times. Once you figure out how to do things it will save you a lot of time.
Pros: Seems to do what it's supposed to do and does it well.
Cons: First time users face a steep learning curve due to poorly written instruction manual.

Russell from SENECA, SC on 5/9/2023
I needed a replacement for my vintage Rotel RCD855, and I wanted to be able to record LPs to CD. I was concerned the Tascam CD playback quality would not be great; however I am very pleased with the Tascam playback quality. The sound is clean and the dynamic range is great to my ears. As always Crutchfield service is great and they ship very quickly.
Pros: Nice, I would buy this unit again.
Cons: I prefer a tray style disc loading to the slot style on this unit, but it works fine.

Great little CD recorder/player that is easy to use. Like the way you load the CD's thru a slot and not the tray type that have a tendency to jam and break. Excellent sound reproduction.
Pros: CD loading feature.
Cons: None yet.

What a cool CD recorder/player
Mary from Bunnell, FL on 1/27/2023
This is the neatest CD recorder , we love it. Its simple to operate yet has features to help you make very sophisticated recordings with tracks, scrip written on the cd to identify songs, artists etc. The sound is great recorded and playback, very clear, crisp, precise yet warm. Very simple to archive your playlists etc.We used to use cassette recorders but this guy is light years ahead of them. Tascam has done a great job on this unit. Its fun to use not so like so many complex computer driven devices that require you to take a night course to operate it

Perfect Replacement
Sidney from Oxford, AL on 1/23/2023
I have had a Pioneer CD recorder for years that is used to transcribe music from LPs to lossless digital. However, when looking for the Music CD-RWs needed for it, I discovered they were no longer available except as NOS that folks are charging a ridiculous amount for. I went online looking for a replacement recorder and found that there are very few available. As an aging audiophile, I was familiar with the Tascam name and knew it would be just what I needed and it doesn't require the special CDs! It has been used twice now for transcription and the results were great. It's easy to use also with features that I'll need to explore. The only thing I miss is a loading tray instead of the slot load it uses.
