Product Research

Features

Overview: The JBL Control 19CST in-ceiling subwoofer is designed to provide powerful bass extension and high-fidelity sound in a variety of indoor foreground and background music applications including restaurants, retail stores, cafes, health clubs, convention and exhibit spaces, and more. The subwoofer's unique design provides a natural acoustic low-pass character, making it easy to augment a full-range system without the need for an external crossover or separate amplifier channel.

Driver: The Control 19CST features an 8" low frequency driver consisting of a polypropylene cone and 1.5" voice-coil on an aluminum former, along with a butyl rubber surround, providing tight well-damped bass. This combination ensures good bass transient response and excellent stability under high power working conditions.

Enclosure: Designed for in-ceiling use, the Control 19CST features a formed steel backcan with a medium-impact polystyrene front baffle, giving it a UL94V-0 fire rating. It's unique Nested Chamber design delivers high output from a compact enclosure, while its acoustic low-pass character lets it easily augment a full-range sound system without the need for an external crossover or separate amp channel. The subwoofer also incorporate JBL's Linear Dynamics port design, originally developed for their concert series speakers, which can produce deep extended bass.

70/100 Volt: The Control 19CST includes a built-in transformer for use in 70 or 100 volt systems. With a power handling capacity of 200 watts continuous program power, the subwoofer provides tap settings for up to 75W for either 70 or 100 volt applications. A rotary tap-selector on the face of the enclosure allows easy tap setting changes, without having to remove the enclosure. The following tap settings are available:

  • 70 Volt: 7.5W, 15W, 30W, or 75W
  • 100 Volt: 15W, 30W, or 75W

Note: The Control 19CST does not provide an 8Ω bypass selection.

Wiring: Connections to the in-ceiling subwoofer are done through a single 4-pin Euroblock (Phoenix) connector located on top of the enclosure. Two terminals are used for the input connection while the other 2 terminals provide a pass-thru for additional speakers (sold separately). Each terminal includes a set-screw, for securing the speaker wire, and can accept up to 12AWG wire. A terminal cover-plate is provided for protecting the input terminal block.

Mounting Options: The 2 in-ceiling subwoofers are packaged complete with grilles, backing support C-brackets, and tile rails. A template is provided for marking the cutout and an innovative C-shaped support backing plate can be installed from below through the cutout to reinforce the top of the ceiling material. Tile bridge rails are included which can be screwed onto the C-plate to extend support to the T-channel grid in suspended ceiling installations. After the speaker is fitted through the cutout, it is held securely in place via five mounting tabs which tighten onto the C-plate, if used, or directly onto the ceiling material. Each mounting tab has a Phillips head screw, accessible from behind the grille, that when tightened, swings the attached mounting arm outward, locking it against the back of the mounting surface. The rear of the backcan includes a suspension-ring for attaching a safety cable (not included).

  • Frame Diameter: 13.625"
  • Cutout Diameter: 12.125"
  • Mounting Depth: 12.563"

Paintable: The speaker's rim and removable grille can be painted to match any decor. Paint shields are provided for covering the drivers while painting the rim.
