I am using this Crown power amp to run my stereo. I have a Parasound NC 200 Preamp with a turntable and CD player. My speakers are JBL s38 and sub JBL 200P. The sound is spectacular. Being able to add the sub woofer to the mix only heightens the listening experience. This amp has more than enough power for my JBL speakers Left and Right . The preamp has a sub output for powered sub woofers. I recommend the Crown XLS 1002 and I also recommend Crutchfield for fast shipping and a great price.

I've used Crown Amps for decades. Right now I use 2 XLS 1002 amps to power my sound system, one for the 2 subwoofers and one for the 4 overhead speakers (all Bose speakers). These amps have good clean power and are easy to install. Crown all the way.

I bought this to replace a subwoofer plate amp that was going bad. The new sound is clean and powerful. Love it. One thing I'm confused about is the math. The amp I replaced was 500W RMS @ 4O. I replaced it with this using bridged mode, so should be 1100W. Using LFE input from an HT receiver. The old amp was very loud at about half volume. But this one has to be turned up to full on both channels to get to the same volume. That seems backwards to me. I know there are other differences at play, but I lack the knowledge to make sense of it all. I just expected this to be about twice as loud as the old amp and it's about 1/2 as loud. Just doesn't make sense to me. But the sound is great, so I'm still giving it 5 stars.

I run 4 of these to my outdoor system which includes 6 definitive technology asw 6500's and two polk atrium subs which I replaced the subs with higher rated polks marine subs.. Running through a matrix mini for streaming with roon, all connected via balanced xlr. crossovers in the crown make it as the polk had no crossovers in it.. sounds like disneyland here. well worth the price! so clear, can get very loud and runs cool.

Pros: great choice of connections xlr, spekeon, bridgable.

Very happy with this amp. I bought this for the purpose of experimenting with building my own home subwoofer. Temporarily I'm using it on a pair of old Infinity car subs and it's doing excellent. I can't speak on its clarity for mids and highs, but the low pass works great and is very clean down low. I've heard people complain about the fan noise with some other brands, but I haven't even heard this one come on and I had it jamming tunes for hours one day working in the basement. It also has a nice Y feature that allowed me to run a single LFE cable from my receiver for both amp channels.

Amazing value

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Got one of these based on some reviews and feedback I'd been hearing as well as seeing on youtube, I figured it wasn't too expensive to give it a shot, and so I did. I'm glad I took that opportunity because this amp is on par with Cambridge and NAD Class AB amplifiers I have without the heat or the power consumption. When I initially got the Crown, I was running JBL A170 towers, when my wife got home from work she heard the stereo and commented that it sounds amazing and started asking me if I had purchased new speakers. Nope, just a new amp. I now have this paired up with an SMSL DO100 DAC, connected via XLR cables, and feeding Wharfedale EVO 4.1 speakers, as well as a SVS SB1000 subwoofer. Utilizing the RLX balanced connections does seem to make the soundstage a little bigger than when using RCA connections (there's an output voltage setting you'll need to change if you switch between the two). The menu system is simple enough to use, and having some active crossover functionality built in is a huge convenience.

Pros: Power Clarity Balanced inputs DSP Functions: Active X-overs

Cons: Looks like it belongs in a data center

Crown XLS 1002 with Denon 3600 Receiver and Bose 901 Speakers

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

Using the Crown XLS 1002 to power a Bose 901 equalizer and 901 speakers gives a decent amount of volume. Connecting this amplifier to a Denon AVR X3600H receiver, the Denon receiver volume must be turned nearly as high as the receiver goes while reducing the Crown XLS 1002 volume. Without doing this it produces a constant humming sound, even though adjusting all of the Crown XLS 1002 settings. Overall, I am satisfied with this amplifier used with the Denon AVR X3600H receiver and Bose 901 equalizer and 901 speakers.

Pros: Provides a fair amount of volume to listen to the Bose 901 speakers verses other amplifiers.

Cons: Humming at higher loudness levels

I ordered the Crown XLS 1002 Power Amp on 27 Aug. 20 and received my order on 29 Aug. 20 in perfect condition. After reading the operation manual and familiarizing myself with the amp I noticed the binding post output jacks had safety plugs inserted where banana jacks would normally be inserted. According to the operations manual only European models come with these safety plugs, I live in Florida. I was able to remove the safety plugs by disconnecting the binding post from its housing, unscrewing the outer plastic post from the posts metal housing, then gently push the plastic safety plug out. I reinstalled the binding post to its housing and voila, banana connecters can now be utilized. My system's signal chain is as follows. I have a Yamaha RX-V2700 AV Receiver, that I purchased from Crutchfield several years ago and to this day is still working perfectly. I utilize the main L & R pre out RCA jacks from the Yamaha to a Carver M-1.0t power amp that powers my ADS L-710 loudspeakers. The SEAS center channel and surround speakers are powered by the Yamaha. The Crown XLS 1002 receives its signal from the Yamaha's sub out RCA jack that powers a custom Focal sub. This sub contains two Polyglass 10" Focal drivers in a compound loaded cylinder enclosure. Music is from a Marantz CD 6006 cd player, also purchased from Crutchfield, and a JVC QL-Y55F turntable with a Shure V15 five cartridge with a VN5MR Stylus.

Pros: So, how does the Crown XLS 1002 sound? I'm very pleased with the addition of the amp. It has an ample amount of current to drive the Focal sub with enough energy to completely pressurize my listening room with bass tones that are not only visceral, when watching movies, but tight and articulate when playing music. The Crown amp is quiet with no annoying thumps or pops from the speakers when turned on or off. I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the binding post safety plug inserts,

I added this to drive my L/R main speakers so that the rest of the amp power from my Denon X6300H could drive the other channels of my 7.2.4 setup. I was a bit nervous because I'd read audiophile comments that I needed to choose a class A amp that was 3X-4X times more expensive. Turns out I need not have worried. This amp works great. I've got it rack mounted and have yet to have the cooling fans come on. I wish it had a 12v trigger so it would power up with my Denon, but I'm solving that with an IoT relay power strip.

I purchased this amplifier to replace my Sony ES N80ES amplfier that I acquired in the '90s. The Sony amp was failing on me regularly. Running the Crown XLS 1002 in bridged mode gives me a bit more power than the Sony did (in bridged mode) and it sounds every bit as good. And for less than I paid for the Sony in the '90s. I will continue to purchase Crown amps as each of my existing amps fail - I am very pleased and my wife likes its smaller dimensions.

Bought this amp as a home theater sub to drive 4 12s in a sealed box wired into a 4 ohm bridged load and was extremely surprised to see tha it was too much amp for the subs . Have only had the amp for 2 weeks so I can't speak on long term quality but a 3 year warranty alleviates a lot of fears. Great way to add power to your home theater. Clearer highs. Lows more pronounced at low volume. I really like that you can turn all the lights off. The only drawback when integrating into home theater is the lack of the monaural 12v remote.

Pros: Value. Size. Power.

Cons: Lack of monaural 12v remote (but it's not designed for home theater so you can't hold it against it too much)

I initially bought these for some upcoming bookshelves that needs power and am waiting for them to arrive. In the meantime, I tried them with my Tannoys XT6F and an old pair of Totem model 1's. My current amps are 40 watt tube mono-blocks. With the Tannoys, right from the start, there was more bass, it was night and day. The midrange was definitely thicker and maybe lost a little in treble detail. One thing I really liked is that I could listen to the Tannoy's at low level and all the bass was still there. But the real surprise was with my Totem Model 1. With the Crown amp they sounded awesome. Apparently Totems like the power. They sounded a lot fuller. You can only do so much with the small totems but with the Crown amp they sounded so satisfying from top to bottom. If you got some old Totems lying around, you can't go wrong. At this price you can have a spare amp to play with. BTW, does not sound thin or what people might think a digital amp sounds like. Can't wait to try them with my new bookshelf speakers arriving soon.

Pros: Solid bass , great overall sound if your speakers match.

Cons: No feet.

More Power on the Light Money. Great Value!

Vincent from Nashville, TN on 7/11/2019

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Audiophile snobbery not here. This is an honest sounding amp. The Class D design is very efficient. Connected to my Onkyo TX-RZ820 for front left/right. Using the RCA inputs on the amp. Set the Voltage to .775 volts because honestly don't think the Onkyo will go above a volt with any linearity. With my Elac Debut 6.2 speakers there is an effortlessness I didn't quite get with the Onkyo, yeah no kidding. Midrange is very open, highs are very highlighted yet not harsh. Compliments this speaker well. Bass response is tight and articulate. I feel the Onkyo now has an opportunity to do well with center and surrounds when I get them. I am considering getting another 1202 running bridged. Don't think I need it, but the option is nice. The menus in the amp are easy and straight forward to navigate. I run Stereo, no crossover, and meters on and lamp on. Using the multi-way binding posts for the speakers though Speakons are here for your pro spread. Also Balanced inputs via XLR are ready for your balanced preamplifiers or mixers. Very light and narrow of depth. Very very short Power AC IEC cable be aware of that. You may need to have a longer AC cable for your setup. The Triggering is not done with a 3.5mm miniplug cable. A phoenix connector it would seem does the job for remote trigger on. Value over all is excellent, this really should be a 4 star, but the value and pricing and swift service from Crutchfield here garners the extra star. Nicely done!

Pros: Easy menu setup. Versatile Crossover setup and easy bridging setup. Balanced/Unbalanced connections. Speakon and multi-way binding posts. Light weight and cool running.

Cons: Too short supplied power AC IEC power cable. No Trigger cable. Speaker Binding posts could be a bit better quality.

Maybe I just got a bad one but when I hooked it up to my Polk Audio CSiA6 center channel speaker I immediately noticed a fair bit of hiss coming from the speaker. I swapped speakers & cables with known good ones & still had the same problem. Then one of the blue power/accent LEDs quit working & that's when I decided to send it back. I've used Crown amps before & always thought they were great but this one just didn't work out for me. Crutchfield support was easy to work with as always & I exchanged this for a QSC GX3 that I'm much happier with.

Pros: Looks nice, lightweight

Cons: Excessive hiss

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Great amp so far. The price is unbeatable. It has no identifiable sound, and if Class D can be detected audibly, I can't hear it. I'm using it to drive a pair of Magnepan MMGs: Four ohm and relatively inefficient; with a 65 foot, 12 gauge, cable run from the amp to the speakers. The 1002 drives the MMGs as loud as I can stand in a large room with high ceilings. Running the amp continuously five to six hours at moderate levels has never even caused the cooling fan to run. The Crown amp replaced a vintage Macintosh MC-2105 power amp that has served me faithfully for 48 years but started having problems in one channel. Frankly, the new Class D Crown (PA amplifier) sounds cleaner and more open than its predecessor. Purely subjective, but that's what I hear. Don't be afraid to try it for a home system. I think you'll be pleased. And, anyway, you can return it if you're not.

Pros: Bargain price; Clean, tight, and uncolored sound.

Cons: None so far; though, I wish there was a way to bypass the signal processing features. Useful in professional applications, but I don't need them at home. The signal processing is digital, and requires AD conversion of the analog input; then DA conversion before going to the amplification stage. The AD/DA is 48 kHz and might be limiting if your source material is higher than that. For all but the most demanding applications this should not be an issue.

I picked this amp up a while back when it was on sale plus got it scratch and dent open box. Couldn't find a single scratch or dent on it. Maybe what looks like a hair line scratch on the display if anything Have purchased several items from here with same results Currently using this as a sub amp along with a sa1000 sub amp running 4 subs all together between the 2 amps.Yeah it's ridiculous but controlable. If using this as a sub amp with ported enclosures be aware the bandpass only goes down to 30hz. Nothing a mini dsp won't fix. Absolutely love this amp. Never hear the fans come on never gets hot. Looks awesome in the rack. Better looking than the sa1000 and cheaper but sa has an ss filter.I want on for the bedroom. Really think rack mount is the way to go for powering passive subs as the amp isn't mounted in the enclosure. Room to breath and away from vibrating box. Love Crutchfield's awesome customer service and despite what some people say you can find great deals. I really don't mind paying a little extra for service and support anyway. Great clean power simple to use clip lights. Able to turn off display. Can lock the settings. Can stack components on. Love it however In a perfect world it would have auto turn on and lower bandpass settings. I was looking at plate amps then seen this on sale couldn't pass up. Glad I didn't get a plate amp.

Pros: Light weight seems to do rated power quite runs cool looks good easy to set up can handle 2 ohm load in stereo mode. Good price for the power especially if you can catch it on sale.

Cons: No auto turn on. Bandpass doesn't go low enough on the high pass when using for a sub amp

Clean, powerful, and neutral. Don't be afraid to go pro-quaility class D. Tons of headroom and clean efficient design. Highly recommended!

Pros: Clean, neutral, cost effective

Cons: Lacks the aesthetics of "audiophile" amps.

I have a emotiva 100 watt per channel. I am happy I brought this because the emotiva don't have enough power to drive my speakers for higher quality sounds.

Pros: Powerful

I replaced a Cerwin-Vega power amp with this Crown because I didn't like the fan sound all the time on the Cerwin-Vega. I have a 3.4 ohm speaker load per channel and it handles it very well. Though the Cerwin-Vega claimed lower noise than this one the Crown is much cleaner. I've played it pretty loud and the fans haven't had to come on yet. The display is very nice and the menu easy to navigate. I have the display set to turn off after 30 seconds so I'm not distracted by it. Touch any menu button and the display reappears. It's nice that is has 2 input sensitivity settings. Also if you're using more than one amp for bi-amping they connect easily and you can choose which frequencies each amp let's pass through. It's also much lighter than the Cerwin-Vega since it's a Class D amp. About 8 lbs vs the 48 lbs on the CV.

Pros: No fan sound during quieter moments or between songs. Unless maybe you really drive it. I like loud and no fans yet.

Fantastic amp! I use the 1002 in my living room/home theater area. I've had three amps prior to this one and it's hands down my favorite. Not only does it sound better than other amps I've had (some being twice the price) but, it's small and generates almost no heat. With zero to little fan movement, it's very quiet. Having gain control on the front and easily accessible is great too. What more could you want from an amp? There is one small downside to the XLS 1002... With it being a commercial amp, it does not have a standard 12v trigger input like majority of home amplifiers feature. That is my one complaint. However, it's small and doesn't affect the fact I'd give this bad boy 5 big stars!

Pros: Great sound Great price Light and small Generates very little heat Quiet

Cons: No 12v trigger

I had to figure out how to make an existing bad setup work, without damaging any of the audio equipment. In short, a previous installer thought it would be ok to run four outside speakers in a zone 2 setup in parallel directly to the the home theater receiver. Miraculously, this didn't fry the receiver. With help from the Crutchfield design group and this robust amplifier that was able to handle the low impedance configuration, I was able to safely balance the system, and get it sounding great.

Pros: Robust and flexible Ability to adjust gain and balance system

Cons: None

Purchased 2 of these amps for a system upgrade. The class D amps are very strong, given the light weight and smaller size, compared to the Behringer amps, that they replaced. The pro side is a long list. The built in cross overs are great, with 72 steps and steep slopes. They run cool, too, as the fans have yet to turn on. The sound quality is very good, clean and detailed. Being several inches shallower than the old amps gives more room to work the wires in back, when mounted. The only con is a personal one, as my amp rack is custom built to fit in my bedroom, and the front mounting brackets are not really removable or bendable because of the "through the face plate" mounting holes. No big deal, I'm retired, so I'll build a new rack in the spring. All in all, well worth the price.

Works great, at a very reasonable price! I use it to provide background audio from my home theater system to the rest of the house. The XLS1002 amp drives (6) rooms. Each room has a pair of in-ceiling stereo speakers (12 speakers total) with an impedance matching attenuator. This allows local volume adjustment while maintaining the correct impedance for the amplifier. I do not use the band pass feature on this amp since I want the full audio program to come through the remote speakers. Another nice feature is the amplifier 'display' can be set to turn off since it sits in my entertainment system, below the TV, and the lights would be distracting. The final item I'd like to mention is, this Amp has a set of terminals that can be used for turning off the amplifier from a remote contact - this is definitely a plus. My only complaint doing it this way is, 2 LEDs flash indicating the unit is in standby mode instead of just being just turned off with no flashing LED's.

Great way to add power to your system

Frank from Jacksonville, FL on 10/17/2017

Great way to add power to your system for money. This amp only turns on the internal fan when it gets hot which is better than the amp it replaced. Actually the fan has never been on since the Crown Amp has more power than my outdoor speakers can safely handle. I hooked the Crown Amp to the outdoor speakers in my back yard via pre amp outputs on a receiver in a back bedroom. The volume level is about the same but the stereo separation is much better than the old amp. Only downside is what to do with the old amp it replaced?

Pros: Home Speaker ready and professional terminals as well RCA Jacks for direct connection to pre amp output Much less expensive than regular home equipment amp Sounds as good as amps for thousands more dollars Fan is thermal controlled and doesn't run all the time Looks damn good when turned on !

Cons: What am I going to do with the old amp it replaced?

Perfect Match for Bass Cab

Jeff from Chandler on 10/12/2016

Verified employee review (What's this?)

This amp is the foundation for my son's bass guitar rack system. The band he just joined plays a few smaller clubs but mostly opens for major touring acts (punk - old & new) so he needed something really good to power his GK Neo 412 bass cab or the Ampeg 8x10. Here's my son's review of the XLS 1002: "The best. So much head room & clean power. Stoked ! "

Pros: Cory in sales was a huge help in matching this amp to the GK bass cab. 1100w Bridged. Clean, clear power. A great $$ value. Blue lights are class on stage.

Cons: Nil

Cons: Blue lights are really bright but can be turned off.

Excellent product with unmatched sound quality. What surprised me the most is that you can have it running for hours and the unit doesn't get hot. In fact, the fan doesn't even come on. For those reasons I am giving it an "11". The price and guarantee are second to none. I recommend it.

Crown Power to shake the floor

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Using this Amp in bridge mode (LFE input to A/V receiver) to power a 4 ohm Polk sub since the original plate amp in the sub stopped working. This amp delivers a ton of power, the sub never sounded this good. The Amp runs cool, and delivers more than enough power to move the sub and shake the floor and furniture in the room. Setup is simple. Extremely satisfied with this product, it delivers power to the speaker as advertised. If, the plate amp in your sub stops working, get one of these !

Pros: Runs cool - the fan hasn't kicked on yet, chassis stays cool after several hours of use. Provides big power in bridge mode into 4 ohms Clean power No turn on thump from the amp

Cons: None

I have this amp powering an 18 inch subwoofer (Dayton Ultimax 18) in a 4cu ft sealed enclosure in a home theater setup. I have it bridged into a 4-ohm load. This amp has no issues powering this beast of a sub to insane levels. The bass is deep, tight and thunderous, and the Crown XLS 1002 just does what its supposed to. I cannot attest to the fidelity of this amp drivng a stereo setup, but as far as powering a massive 18 in sub, I have no issues. As expected with a digital amp it remains completely cool to the touch and I have yet to have the fan kick on. Overall it is excellent as a subwoofer amp.
