What's not to love? For such a small package this Mackie really throws its weight around. In my simple home studio system this fits the bill perfectly. Extra add-on features like built-in effects and the USB In/Out really set this item apart, and keep me pushing my creative buttons. As with any mixer, there's some time getting comfortable with the controls, but then we were cruising. My inputs sound great through it, and it offers clean outputs on both the mains and headphone connections. I can see this being a perfect fit for a 3/4-piece band or a home studio who wants a bit more flexibility than the standard mixer/interface.

Pros: Loads of flexibility and controls. Easy to use once learned.

Cons: If any, cycling through 24 effects could be cumbersome if changing the effect on the fly.

Almost Perfect - But Great Sound Regardless

I've been using Mackie mixers since my original 1604 from way, way back, and I've always been impress by how clean and quiet they are. These aren't warm British boards; they're dead silent and pristine - exactly what I want. They've also always been good values, and this unit is no exception. I do find the Blend knob unnecessary, I'd like a real stereo return, and beyond reverb I don't really need the effects. But, overall, it's this or the Yamaha equivalents (I have one of those as well), and you really can't go wrong here.

Pros: Flexible, quiet, excellent value.

Cons: Cutesy manuals are a Mackie trademark, but this one borders on silly. A little humor here and there is always nice, but describing features that aren't there goes too far. I am, after all, trying to get work done here. As a consequence, it can be difficult to understand certain features - but, as always, a quick trip to the block diagram fixes things pretty quick.

Have not had it long enough (about 2 weeks) to give it a higher rating; but its built like a tank, was easy to set up and the controls work well. the only problem I've had is not with the mixer itself, but with the Avid downloadable software that came with it - it won't recognize the mixer as hardware.
