Add mics and cables, and you'll be on the road to fame.

Takes care of the whole band

Loaded to the max, the ShowBox can simultaneously handle two mics, two guitars, a stereo keyboard, a stereo Bluetooth® signal for background beats or break music, and still have room for a guest performer to plug an instrument in. EQ adjustments, dynamic compression, and six different sonic effects are available to apply to the vocal and mono instrument channels to make each sound its best.

ShowBox 6-channel digital mixer

6-channel digital mixer

The ShowBox's mix, effects, and tone controls are on a small separate chassis that can be mounted in the speaker or used as a stand-alone device positioned anywhere its cable will allow. A 16.5-foot CAT5 connecting cable and a handy bracket for attaching the mixer to a mic stand are included.

Battery-powered

The ShowBox's onboard lithium-ion battery provides up to 12 hours of playing time on a single charge. It takes as little as 3 hours to fully recharge it — 4 hours when playing music — using the included AC power cord. The built-in 400-watt amplifier provides plenty of power for live music performances in small venues.

Dependable portable performance

Mackie builds the ShowBox to survive the rough and tumble world that a street performer may have to endure. This speaker's tough polypropylene Built-Like-A-Tank™ cabinet includes a top-mounted handle for portability and a perforated metal grille to protect the speaker.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Mackie ShowBox is a portable battery-powered PA speaker designed for live use in small indoor and outdoor venues, coffee shops, karaoke, banquet halls, and more. The ShowBox features 6 input channels along with Bluetooth audio streaming, an internal rechargeable battery, and a durable chassis that's lightweight and easy to transport.

Construction: The Mackie ShowBox features an 8" high-output woofer and a 1" high-frequency compression driver, both driven by an ultra-efficient 400W (peak) class-D amplifier, and housed in a durable lightweight polypropylene enclosure that's designed to withstand heavy use. A top-mounted carry-handle and a weight of only 20.9 pounds, make the ShowBox very portable.

Battery Power: The ShowBox includes a removable, rechargeable Lithium-ion battery for portable use in areas where AC power isn't available or convenient. The 5200mAh battery can provide up to 12 hours of use with a charge time of approximately 3 hours when not in use, or 4 hours if charging while in use. An AC power cord is provided for operation and battery charging.

Inputs & Outputs: All of the Mackie ShowBox connections are available on the rear panel and include:

  • Channels 1&3: Feature a balanced XLR connection that can accept microphone-level signals.
  • Instrument Channels 2&4: Feature a balanced 1/4" input that can accept instrument-level signals.
  • Line-Level Channels 5&6: Features dual 1/4" balanced line-level inputs (L&R) that can accept stereo signals, or a mono signal through the left channel only.
  • Aux Input: An 1/8" stereo input can be used for audio playback from a portable device like a phone or tablet.
  • Bluetooth: A pairing button lets you connect a Bluetooth-enabled device for music playback.
    • Note: Channels 5&6, the Aux input, and the Bluetooth input can all be used simultaneously and can have their levels adjusted using the Channel 5&6 Gain/Volume control.
  • Mix Out: A male XLR connector provides a line-level summed-mono mix of all the input signals, including Bluetooth. This lets you daisy-chain multiple ShowBoxes off of the same signal sources or add an outboard subwoofer. The Mix Out level is not affected by the Main Volume level, but is affected by the Main Mute button.
  • Headphones: A 1/4" jack provides a stereo headphone output of the main audio mix. The volume can be independently adjusted using the Headphone Volume control on the breakaway mixer panel.
  • Ext FX: Two 1/4" jacks (Send and Return) let you connect an external effects processor or guitar pedal. The Send jack outputs a post-preamp/pre-channel fader signal for each channel, with the FX Loop knob for each channel adjusting the amount of signal sent out through it. The Return jack sends the signal back into the PA mix bus.
  • Footswitch: A 1/4" TRS connector lets you connect an optional 2-button footswitch (sold separately), letting you easily mute and un-mute the internal effects processor as well as controlling the built-in Looper (on/off).
  • USB-C: A 2x2 USB-C (3.1) interface lets you stream audio to and from the ShowBox and a connected smartphone or computer for recording your playback. This can also be used for live streaming and is compatible with Facebook Live, Instagram Live, YouTube Live Streaming, and Twitch.
  • Micro-SD: A micro-SD card slot lets you record a stereo mix of all input signals.
  • Remote: An RJ-45 port lets you connect the breakaway mixer to the ShowBox using the provided CAT5 cable.

Rear-Panel Controls & Indicators:

  • Outdoor Mode: A push-button selector; boosts high and low frequencies to compensate for the natural boost that happens indoors and is lost outdoors. When activated, the Outdoor Mode button will light Green and the breakaway mixer LEDs will illuminate at full brightness.
  • PA Mode: The ShowBox features two built-in voicing modes that can be selected via a push-button selector.
    • Amplifier Mode (default): This mode optimizes the PA as a busking instrument amplifier, with the EQ curve focusing on clarity in the mid- and high-frequency ranges, optimizing it for vocals and guitars.
    • PA Mode: This mode treats the PA as a typical loudspeaker and applies an EQ curve that extends the low- and high-frequencies, making it ideal for playing pre-recorded music.
  • Feedback Eliminator: When activated, the Feedback Eliminator applies up to 8 filters to automatically reduce feedback while maximizing gain before feedback. The Feedback Eliminator button will light Green when active.
  • Front LED: A front-panel Power LED lights Green when the ShowBox is powered on, but can be engaged/disengaged using the rear-panel Front LED button.
  • Battery Charge Status: A rear-panel LED displays the status of the included rechargeable battery:
    • Solid Green: Fully charged
    • Flashing Green: Battery is charging (when plugged into AC power)

Breakaway Mixer: The Mackie ShowBox features a Breakaway Mixer that contains the adjustments for each of the input channels, the Looper feature, and the main mix output. The breakaway mixer can be docked on the side of the PA cabinet for storage and transport. A release button lets you remove the mixer, letting you place it within reach during your performance. An included stand-adapter lets you mount the breakaway mixer to a microphone stand for easy access. The mixer connects to the PA via the included 16.5' CAT5 cable. A USB-C port on the breakaway mixer lets you charge a smartphone or tablet. The USB-C port can provide up to 2A of charging current while the ShowBox is plugged into AC power, and up to 1A when the PA is running off of the battery. Breakaway Mixer controls include:

  • Channel Select: Five push-buttons let you select Channels 1-4 and Channels 5/6 (with Aux and Bluetooth) for editing.
  • Volume/Gain: A rotary/push-button dial can be used to adjust the Input Gain for each selected channel when not using the Auto-Gain feature. A corresponding Overload LED will light when clipping occurs. The rotary dial can also be set as a Volume control, adjusting each channel's signal level in the final mix. Volume and Gain LEDs will light to show the status of the dial. Double-tapping the dial will Mute the selected channel.
  • 3-Band EQ: Three adjustment dials provide 3-band equalization with low shelving at 80 Hz, mid peaking at 2.5 kHz, and high shelving at 12 kHz.
  • Compression: A compression circuit is available for channels 1-4, with a signal rotary dial for adjustment. Five preset compression settings throughout the dial range vary both the Threshold and the Makeup Gain. Double-pressing the Compression dial engages a bypass for the incoming signal.
  • FX1 & Tuner: A rotary push-button dial lets you select one of 14 effects, including various Chorus and Delay settings, along with Flanger, Phaser, Overdrive, and more. A digital "scribble-strip" displays the currently selected effect. The FX1 dial also lets you access the built-in Tuner for making sure your instrument is in tune. In this mode, the digital scribble-strip will display Tuner. FX1 effects are run in series, allowing Channels 1-4 to have their own individual effects without sharing.
  • FX2 & Snapshots: A rotary push-button dial lets you select one of 17 effects, including various Reverb, Chorus, and Delay options, along with Flanger, Phaser, Tremolo, and more. Effects on FX2 are run in parallel, meaning that shared channels also share effects. The FX2 dial also lets you save and access Snapshots. Snapshots let you save up to 5 memory settings that can be recalled at a later time, making setup easier when moving from one venue/performance to another. A digital scribble-strip displays the selected effect for FX2, while two LEDs will indicate if the dial is in FX2 or Snapshot mode.
  • FX Loop: The FX Loop dial adjusts the amount of signal sent to the external effects loop input/output when using external effects.
  • Looper: The Looper feature lets you quickly and easily loop sections of incoming audio on a selected channel. The Looper button lets you Record, Play, Overdub, Stop, and Clear loops.
  • Loop Level: A rotary dial adjusts the volume of the looped section of audio.
  • Main Volume: A rotary dial adjust the overall mixed output signal.
  • Mute: Mutes the main output.
  • HP Volume: A rotary dial adjusts the volume of the 1/4" headphone output on the rear panel of the ShowBox.
  • SD Record: A push-button lets you record to a micro-SD card (sold separately).
  • Battery Level: A single LED on the breakaway mixer will display the status of the ShowBox rechargeable battery:
    • Green: 20%-100% battery remaining
    • Yellow: 5%-20% battery remaining
    • Red: 5% or less battery remaining
    • Off: Not battery detected
    • Flashing Red: The breakaway mixer isn't receiving enough power (< 10V) and cannot function.

Mounting: The Mackie ShowBox can be placed upright on a floor or stage, or can be placed on its side for monitor use. A 35mm bottom opening lets you mount the PA speaker on a pole or tripod (both sold separately).

Protections: The Mackie ShowBox incorporates multiple safety features, including:

  • Limiting: A compression circuit which helps protect it from damaging transient peaks. The compressor is designed to be transparent and isn't noticeable under normal conditions.
  • Over Excursion: A subsonic filter circuit prior to the power amp prevents ultra-low frequencies from being amplified, which helps keep the driver from bottoming out.
  • Thermal: If the amplifier overheats, a built-in thermal switch will activate, muting the signal. After it has cooled down sufficiently, the switch will reset itself and resumes normal operation.
