Features
Overview: The Mackie Thump212 is a portable powered loudspeaker designed for live use in small venues and performance centers. With two input channels that accept mic- or line-level signals and an 1/8" auxiliary input all being driven by 1400 watts of power (peak), the Thump212 is perfect for performing musicians, DJs, schools, and houses of worship.
Drivers: The Mackie Thump212 features a 2-way driver design with a 12" woofer and a 1" polymer compression driver housed in a bass-reflex enclosure.
Chassis: Designed for portability and durability, the Thump212 features a rugged polypropylene chassis with a textured finish and a perforated metal grille. It includes three built-in carry-handles and a standard 35mm socket for pole-mounting.
1400W Ultra-efficient Class-D Amplification: The Thump212 features two built-in Class-D amplifiers; a low-frequency power amp providing 1200W (peak) to the woofer and a high-frequency power amp providing 200W (peak) to the 1" compression tweeter. Class-D amps are more efficient and lightweight, with far less waste heat produced versus competing designs.
Stage Monitor: The Thump212 can be used as a stage monitor. Beveled rear panels allow it to lay on either side at a 40° upward angle. The Mackie RunningMan logo on the speaker grille can be rotated for monitor placement.
Inputs: The Thump212 features two main input channels (Ch.1 & Ch.2) that can both accept balanced or unbalanced mic- or line-level signals.
- Ch.1: A combination XLR/1/4" jack with rotary Gain adjustment; includes a Mic/Line selector switch.
- Ch.2: A combination XLR/1/4" jack; also includes an 1/8" auxiliary input for connecting a portable playback device, smartphone, or tablet. Signals from both inputs are mixed and controlled by the Ch.2 Gain adjustment dial.
Output: A balanced XLR Thru jack is provided that can pass the main mixed output signal to additional powered speakers (sold separately).
Additional Controls & Indicators: In addition to the aforementioned controls, the Thump212 rear panel also includes the following:
- Main Volume: A rotary dial adjusts the main mixed output signal level. A corresponding Overload LED indicator will light Red if the PA speaker's built-in Limiter is activated by a clipped output signal.
- Music Ducking (On/Off): This is a side-chain compressor feature that can be used to lower the music playback level of Ch.2 while a person is speaking into a microphone on Ch.1.
- Feedback Eliminator (On/Off): The built-in multi-band feedback eliminator circuit uses up to six notch filters to automatically detect and eliminate feedback while maximizing gain.
Protection: The Thump212 incorporates various safety features which include:
- Limiting: A compression circuit which helps protect it from damaging transient peaks. The compressor is designed to be transparent and isn't noticeable under normal conditions.
- Over Excursion: A subsonic filter circuit prior to the power amp prevents ultra-low frequencies from being amplified, which helps keep the driver from bottoming out.
- Thermal: If the amplifier overheats, a built-in thermal switch will activate, muting the signal. After it has cooled down sufficiently, the switch will reset itself and resumes normal operation.
