These things were incredible, the clarity of these I have never experienced before. Only issue is they are super heavy so prolonged listening may cause some discomfort from what I could tell.
Pros: Great Clarity
Cons: A little heavy on the head

Audeze LCD-4z

Great sonics and easy to drive. It's bass emphasized, but in a very pleasing and neutral way. I personally prefer the sound character vs. the newer LCD-5 which is more mid-focused (compared it side by side). Also, a great looking pair of headphones!

New design is very uncomfortable

Audeze changed ear pads' thickness. The new design is much thinner and because of that my ears were all the time-pressed and touched by the driver and it was giving me pain in 20-30 minutes.

Wait, I've never heard that in the recording!

Removing the LCD-4z headphones from their sturdy (and nearly bearproof, surely) box, you know they are substantial and well constructed, and they just might make others jealous. From the woven gold accents on the ear cup exterior to the braided, four-conductor cable, they look like they mean business. And that's the impression before hearing them. Prior to placing these on your head, you need to prepare yourself for hidden accents and other details (even goofs) in tracks you've heard hundreds of times. They are incredibly clear, provide substantial detail, and sound balanced and natural. Buckle up and ride into sonic bliss with these tracks (these were the first two of many): They showcase the delicate vocal harmonies in Simon & Garfunkel's "The Boxer," giving them well defined space in the center while leaving them intermingled within the rest of the band. Listen to the voices of the choir walk toward you from the sides during the climax. On to Daft Punk's "Contact." The crackle of static pops as the song begins turns you into radio waves ready to be pulled and torn against gravity later during an absurdly long, but wildly satisfying frequency sweep that is a test of equipment's ability to maintain evenness across wide frequencies. The Audeze headphones pass this test beautifully and hold up the low end in ways that planar magnetic design makes difficult. Not an issue here (check out Bela Fleck & The Flecktones "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo" for proof).
Pros: Exceptional detail and clarity. Easy to drive, although I used a headphone amplifier for the best sound. The low end is rich and buttery smooth. The high end is delicate and not at all harsh. Despite their size, they are comfortable for extended listening. Listen to Nina Simone's "Everything Must Change" and Nils Lofgren's "Keith Don't Go" from Acoustic Live and tell me you don't love them.
Cons: They are fairly large, but remain comfortable. I'd have to really dig for something else...
