Features
Overview: The Leica Vario-Elmar-SL 100-400mm f/5-6.3 lens (#11191) is a telephoto zoom lens with the Leica L bayonet mount. It has the widest zoom range in the Leica SL-System, and is ideal for nature and wildlife photography, as well as sports and action shots. It produces high quality images over the entire zoom and aperture range. The optional Leica Extender L 1.4x (sold separately) lets you get even closer, extending the focal length to 140-560mm. The 100-40mm lens comes with a lens hood, front and rear lens caps, and a lens bag.
Lens Construction: The Vario-Elmar-SL 100-400mm is made with 22 lens elements in 16 groups. The full-metal magnesium and aluminum housing has a black anodized finish that is sealed to protect it from dust and water splashes. The front and rear outer lenses feature an Aqua-Dura® coating to repel water and dirt.
Aperture: The lens has an electronically-controlled aperture that is set on the camera from f/5 at 100mm and f/6.3 at 400mm to f/22. Half and third values can also be set.
Tripod Clamp: The Vario-Elmar-SL 100-400mm f/5-6.3 lens is equipped with a tripod clamp and detachable tripod shoe for easy mounting on ARCA-SWISS-compatible and other devices without the need for a quick-release plate. You can easily rotate the lens and camera from portrait to landscape without removing it from the tripod. The collar has detents every 90° for precise orientation.
Optical Stabilizer: The lens features an optical stabilization system for blur-free handheld shots at slower shutter speeds. When enabled, the lens compensates for up to 4 stops of camera shake.
Filters: The lens is compatible with 82mm screw-on filters (E82).
Firmware Updates: When a firmware update becomes available for the lens, the update can be transferred to the lens through the camera.

Firmware Update: On December 8, 2023, Leica released Firmware Update 6.0.0 for SL2 and SL2-S cameras. Firmware updates for SL lenses are generally uploaded alongside the latest version of the camera firmware and will not have to be implemented manually. When an SL lens is attached during the camera update, it will automatically receive the latest firmware version. When that is not the case, a prompt will appear in the camera display that the attached lens requires a firmware update. The attached lens can then be updated with the latest firmware by simply following the prompts.
