FUSION MS-BB100 Marine Black Box Media Receiver

The Fusion-Link app gives you smartphone control.

Plenty of connections

The package includes a compact remote and the hideaway black box source module. The rugged black box contains the AM/FM tuner, the amplifier, and all connections. It's moisture-resistant, but Fusion recommends installing it in a sheltered area using the included panel mount. A thermal heat sink keeps it running cool when it's out of sight.

Stay in control

The basic remote features built-in Bluetooth for excellent range. It's a great auxiliary remote control, but the best way to manage your music is the Fusion-Link Bluetooth app, which will turn your Apple or Android smartphone into a remote, too.

Three-zone entertainment

With Fusion'S 2-zone technology, you can listen to whatever you like at the helm, while your guests enjoy different programming elsewhere on the vessel. And best of all, the MS-BB100V2 works with your boat's existing NMEA 2000 system.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

NMEA 2000 note: To learn more about NMEA 2000 connectivity, check out our article explaining nautical networking.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

This marine digital media receiver will not play CDs.

Marine Features

Fusion Black Box Entertainment: The Fusion MS-BB100 Black Box Entertainment System consists of a hide-away amplifier and source module, a wired remote control, wiring harness, mounting hardware, plus a NMEA 2000 system cable.

Hide-Away Amplifier & Source Module: The Fusion MS-BB100 Black Box Entertainment System includes a hide-away amplifier & source module ("Black Box"). This Black Box features a built-in amplifier and provides all source connectivity. The hide-away module is controlled by the included wired remote control. The hide-away black box is IPX3 certified, but should not be mounted where it is in direct contact with water or extreme temperatures.

Note: The MS-BB100's hide-away box can be completely disconnected from the constant +12V power supply with no settings lost.

Wired Remote Control: The MS-BB100 includes an IPx7 waterproof remote for quick source selection and volume adjustment. The wired remote comes supplied with a 6.5' connection cable and requires a round cutout for flush-mount installation. Either mount the wired remote with a conventional dash finish or integrate it into a glass helm for a flush surface mount.

Optional Remotes: Fusion offers an optional wired remote control with LCD and a wireless ANT remote (both sold separately).

  • Wired Remote w/ LCD:  Install Fusion's MS-NRX300 Wired Remote (917NRX300, sold separately) in a second zone of your vessel, for localized zone volume level and global source control.
  • ANT Wireless Stereo Remote: The Fusion ARX Remote (MS-ARX70, sold separately) is an ANT wireless stereo remote. ANT is an ultra-low-power (ULP) wireless networking protocol operating in the 2.4GHz band with a wireless range of 33'. Able to interface with compatible Fusion stereos, the ARX Remote can control playback in up to four audio zones.

NMEA 2000 Certified w/ Fusion-Link: The MS-BB100 Black Box Entertainment Systemis a Fusion-Link Wired NMEA 2000 certified product and is compatible with a range of the world's leading Multi-Function Displays (MFD) for on-screen audio control; creating a centralized control station for the entire vessel and a more user-friendly experience. NMEA 2000 is the most popular marine standard for data communication within vessels. When pairing the MS-BB100 with a NMEA 2000 supported Chartplotter or Fish finder, you bring your music to the big screen, allowing you to keep an eye on the charts or the fish while skipping tracks or adjusting the volume at the same time.

Fusion-Link Remote Control App: Download the Fusion-Link remote control app onto your Apple iPod/iPhone (iOS 6.0+) or Android smartphone (OS 2.2+) and turn your mobile device into a wireless remote control from the Fusion MS-BB100 Black Box Entertainment System. Once downloaded, the app allows navigation of all entertainment sources, independent volume zone control, and control over multiple Fusion Entertainment Systems connected to the same NMEA2000 network or via Bluetooth from your mobile device.

Fusion-Link Lite App: You can even download the free Fusion-Link Lite app from the Garmin Connect IQ Store to enable wireless control via ANT technology from your compatible Garmin watch (sold separately). Compatible Garmin watches include the VivoActive/HR, Fenix 3/HR, Fenix 5/S/X, Quatix 3, D2 Bravo/Titanium, Fenix Chronos, & Forerunner 935.

Variety of Sources

Bluetooth Music Streaming: With the Bluetooth receiver embedded into the wired remote, there is a reduced the likelihood of interference occurring between your smartphone/tablet and the receiver. The Fusion MS-BB100 Black Bow Entertainment System features built-in Bluetooth with support for wireless audio streaming (A2DP) and playback control (AVRCP). You'll be able to stream stored music and music apps from most Bluetooth source device directly to the Fusion marine system. With an effective range of 10 Mtrs (33ft), you can enjoy seamless streaming of your favorite audio tracks without having to return to the stereo to change tracks. Effective range measured in a straight line, range will differ depending on placement of the Bluetooth module and obstructions.

  • Pairing: Before you can wireless stream music from your Bluetooth-enabled mobile device, you will first need to "pair" it with the MS-BB100 system. The system can only be paired with one device at a time.
  • Controls: The MS-BB100 allows you to control basic playback functions of your streaming music from the included marine wired remote. Playback functions include Play, Pause, Previous Track, and Next Track.
  • No Song/Artist Info: The unit does not display song/artist/album information.
Note: The unit only supports wireless audio streaming and does not offer any type of wireless hands-free phone communication.

USB Port: The Fusion MS-BB100's USB port enables playback & basic control of MP3 music files stored on your USB thumbdrive device (up to 32GB) through the marine system. Your USB thumbdrive must be formatted in FAT 32 with no more than 250 MP3 music files. Playback controls consist of Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track from the included wired remote. The unit does not display song/artist info. In addition, USB devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the MS-BB100's USB port (0.5A) and the watercraft's ignition switch is set to On.

Android Open Accessory (AOA) 2.0: The Fusion MS-BB100 supports Android Open Accessory (AOA) 2.0, which lets  you connect your Android smartphone (OS 4.1-7.1.2) to the unit's USB port and listen to stored music and music apps from your Android device through the Fusion marine system. You'll be able to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track. Other advanced music navigation will still be done from your Android smartphone's touchscreen. You'll continue to view song/artist information from the Android device's touchscreen. You'll still be able to access other functions and applications from your Android smartphone's touchscreen, while listening to music through the receiver. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
Note: This stereo is not compatible with Android devices in MTP or PTP mode.

iPod/iPhone Connectivity: The Fusion MS-BB100's USB port can also be used to connect your Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad with Lightning-connector. The MS-BB100 supports audio playback, basic playback functions (like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track), as well as charging of your compatible Apple device. Q
Is there an NMEA 2000 tee connector included?
[ BRYAN  Feb 27, 2023 ]
1 answer
A
Great question, Bryan. You get a 7' cable included for your drop, but no T-connectors. We have the Garmin multi-port connector available if you are potentially planning the addition of more NMEA gear near your backbone point closest to where you mount the Fusion MS-BB100V2. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_150NMEAT/Garmin-NMEA-2000-T-connector.html

Q
xm compatable?
[ Nathaniel  Jan 17, 2023 ]
1 answer
A
This Fusion MS-BB100V2 is not xm ready sadly, Nathaniel. This does not have the special input needed for the Sirius XM tuner. You can still use XM streamed from your smartphone through the XM app and a Bluetooth connection with the Fusion. You can use the Fusion WB670 in the link below as a contender as it does have the XM tuner input. The ERX400 wired remote in the second link would be a great pair with the Apollo radio. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_917WB670/Fusion-WB670.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_917ERX400/Fusion-ERX400.html

Q
Will the BB100V2 receiver drive 8-ohm speakers?
[ James  Nov 20, 2022 ]
1 answer
A
The fantastic Fusion MS-BB100V2 is specifically rated for 4-ohm speakers only in the factory documentation James. If you have 8-ohm speakers in place currently and want to switch to the hideaway black box unit, it would be a good idea to also upgrade the speakers and choose a 4-ohm version. I hope this helps!

Q
Is this compatible with simrad?
[ Corey  Jul 28, 2022 ]
1 answer
A
This unit is NMEA2000 compatible, meaning that is will integrate into an existing NMEA2000 network. If your SimRad is also NMEA2000 compatible, then they will communicate over that network.

Q
Can I control volume with the buttons on my phone?
[ AARON  Jul 24, 2021 ]
3 answers
A
Once you open the fusion app on your phone, you have the ability to control volume per "zone". I have a cockpit zone and cabin zone. So you open the app and touch the screen on the slider controls and you can adjust the volume of either zone or both together. The app is VERY good. Sometimes if i leave the boat with my phone and come back, I have to turn off power to the stereo, then back on again for it to connect to the blue tooth, but still a very good system.
[ SCOTT  Jul 26, 2021 ]
A
Unfortunately not. You have to go into the app on your phone to adjust the volume.
[ Thomas  Jul 25, 2021 ]
A
Yes. Through the Fusion Link app.
[ ARMANDO  Jul 24, 2021 ]
Q
Do you need to have the wired remote installed if you network it to a Garmin MFD?
[ FRANK  Feb 22, 2021 ]
2 answers
A
The wired remote is required as it also acts as the bluetooth transmitter/receiver.
[ SCOTT  Jul 26, 2021 ]
A
I had professional installation of my device and the installer indicated that the "puck" remote had to be installed. I did have it networked into my Garmin 73, and I also had an upgraded Fusion MS-NRX300 installed. The puck is tucked away behind the helm.

Does this unit have a am/fm antenna jack to plug into an existing on board am/fm antenna? Should I / would it sound better to hook an amp up w this?
[ JOSH  Sep 19, 2020 ]

A
Yes it does have port for AM/FM antenna. Absolutely want to get an amp and works great with nema 2000 network with nav unit.
[ Craig  Sep 22, 2020 ]
A
Yes, it does have an antenna jack. To keep the sound quality I ran two amps with this one stereo. One for my 6 speakers and one for my Sub. The two-zone feature is also very easy to do with the RCA cables and the amp.
[ FRANCESCO  Sep 22, 2020 ]

Yes it does...

Hello, see this states under General features "bluetooth-enabled remote included" but then under the What's in the box it says "wired remote control". The photos don't help as the first image leads me to believe it's a wireless remote and the 2nd photo shows a wired remote. Which is it or does it come with both?

There is only one wired control. You just cannot see the wires in the first picture.
[ Gary  Nov 04, 2020 ]

It includes a wired remote. Once you connect with bluetooth to your phone/device about the only thing I ever use the wired remote for is to turn the unit on and off.

It's wired, but i think the Bluetooth receiver is in the wired remote control (so you have better reception)
[ BRIAN  Aug 11, 2020 ]
A
The remote connects by wire to the amplifier. The Bluetooth allows you to play media from a device such as a smartphone with a Bluetooth connection.
[ JAMES  Aug 07, 2020 ]
A
It only comes with a wired remote. It is compatible with the bluetooth wireless remote which has to be purchased separately.
[ JASON  Aug 06, 2020 ]
A
No wireless remote, just the hard wired control.
[ BILL  Aug 06, 2020 ]
A
The remote is wired. it serves as a push button remote with basic function. It also serves as a way to move your bluetooth receiver to a better location than down underneath or inside your console. This is in case the black box is mounted down beneath where bluetooth reception might suffer.

Q
Can I network with humminbird solix 12 G2 through nmea 2000?
[ DEREK  Jul 08, 2020 ]
2 answers
A
I wired this radio into my NMEA 2000 network with my Garmin fishfinder and am able to completely control the radio, don't see how the Humminbird would be much different. This is straight from fusions website "Fusion-Link makes control of your on-water entertainment easier than ever. It enables partnered multifunction displays (MFD) from manufacturers such as Garmin, Simrad, Raymarine, Furuno, Lowrance, B&G and Humminbird to control the entertainment right from your fingertips. Quickly find your favorite song, tune into the sports or turn up the volume all from your partnered multifunction display - making it simple and convenient to control your onboard audio entertainment." Good Luck!!

Is this unit able to be hooked up to existing marine remotes( Clarion)? I have one at the helm and one at the swim platform
[ TIM  Jun 29, 2020 ]

A
The Clarion remote is not compatible with the Fusion but the dimensions for the Fusion interface may be the same. Check product info and specs on the Fusion website to check fitment and go from there.

A
Hey Tim i suppose you could use another remote if the plugs matches the unit! I hace this installed on my motorcycle so I really use the remote because This Unit has a "fusion link" Iphone app that i primarily use to control the unit anyway so if you have an iphone 8 or newer u could just use your phone! Hope this helps
[ Joseph  Jul 04, 2020 ]
Q
Are zones 1 & 2 completely independant volume controls? I'd like to use this in a 3 RCA output configuration for front, rear, sub feeds to my amp. This appears to require fronts and rears to allways need to be independantly adjsuted which is not ideal. Or can zones 1&2 volume be raised and lowered together with a preset front/back fade?
[ BRIAN  Apr 27, 2020 ]
3 answers
A
Yes, the zones and tone can be adjusted in the App and some MFDs (Garmin). Once set the main volume control moves the volume in unison keeping the volume pre-set ratio the same.
[ Kenneth  Jul 08, 2020 ]
A
Hi, I installed the unit in my boat which I haven't used since I installed it last fall. But I think with the Fusion Link App on your phone you can adjust the volume separately.
[ BILL  Apr 27, 2020 ]
A
They can either be connected to adjust volume at the same time or can adjust them separately... along with balance and fade. I have this installed on my motorcycle so i have both zones 1&2 adjusting at the same time... there is a switch that allows you to connect the zones or leave them separately
