Features
17" Glass Fiber Composite Woofer: The SVS SB17-Ultra R|Evolution powered subwoofer houses an all-new 17" high-excursion long-throw woofer with dual" 8" diameter voice coils and a high-precision tuned overhung motor configuration. The front-firing glass fiber composite cone woofer features a 55 lb toroidal ferrite magnet motor assembly and a dual 8" voice coil design to ensure precise driver control with pinpoint accuracy, maximum efficiency and massive low frequency output. The 17" woofer's high-density powder-coated cast aluminum basket is FEA optimized for maximum rigidity, tensile strength, and energy transference.
STA-2800D Sledge Amplifier: The SB17-Ultra R|Evolution employs a massively powerful STA-2800D Class D amplifier design with a discrete dual-mono configuration. This dual-mono discrete Class D amplifier design generates endless power from eight massive 60A/200V MOSFETs, resulting in lower EMI and high efficiency. The STA-2800D Sledge Amplifier utilizes high resolution 295Mhz Analog Devices Audio DSP with double precision 56-bit filtering for flawless low frequency audio reproduction. Every function of the amplifier is monitored in real-time to ensure precise regulated clean voltage is delivered to and from the switch mode power supply and maximum current is pushed to the driver's voice coils for greater headroom, lower noise, and high fidelity bass output.
Acoustically Inert MDF Enclosure: The SVS SB17-Ultra R|Evolution powered subwoofer features a rigid MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) cabinet with a double thick MDF front baffle and rigid internal bracing to support the massive drive unit and to ensure an acoustically inert environment. The highly reinforced internal design eliminates any chance of coloration or resonance from the cabinet, even when the deepest low frequencies are played at reference sound pressure levels. Screw-in rubber feet and a non-resonant cloth grille further resist unwanted distortion or coloration caused by vibration.
Subwoofer App Control: The SVS subwoofer app (for Apple iOS & Android OS) lets you fine tune the powered subwoofer from your compatible smartphone or tablet via a wireless Bluetooth connection. With a few simple adjustments, you can eliminate boomy spots, set crossover frequencies and make other adjustments to get the deepest, tightest, most accurate and room-energizing bass experience possible from The SVS SB17-Ultra R|Evolution powered subwoofer. The SVS subwoofer app is the only way to access all of the advanced control features available on the SB17-Ultra R|Evolution and it is the most convenient option for controlling every feature.
- Auto Room EQ (future firmware update): Through the SVS subwoofer app, you can use your compatible iOS or Android device's built-in microphone to measure the acoustic performance of the powered subwoofer in your room. The app automatically calculates equalization filters to optimize the subwoofer and room combined performance at your listening position for the best bass sound possible.
- Volume: The Volume Control (-60 to 0dB in 1dB/step) affects how loud the powered subwoofer plays. It should be adjusted to match the output level of your loudspeakers.
- Low Pass Filter: The Low Pass Filter sets the frequency and slope for the low frequencies that will be played by the powered subwoofer. Frequency choices include 30-200Hz in 1kHz increments Four Slope choices are available; 6 dB, 12 dB, 18 dB, and 24 dB per octave. You can disable the Low Pass Filter, if your AV receiver features an LFE output and built-in bass management for the subwoofer.
- Phase Adjustment: Solves sound wave cancellation issues at specific frequencies and perfectly aligns the arrival of output from speakers and subwoofers to your listening position. Normally set to 0° if the subwoofer is near the main speakers. Adjusting Phase (0°-180° in 1 degree steps) shifts timing of the subwoofer output to align with the main speakers or additional subwoofers.
- Polarity: In some cases, reversing polarity solves dips or humps at the crossover frequency between a subwoofer and speaker and can be used to fix bass nulls or overly boomy spots in the listening area. Reversing the electrical polarity of the subwoofer amplifier makes it so the woofer moves in when speaker drivers move out and is normally set to positive.
- Parametric EQ: The 6-band parametric EQ is a powerful tool for removing peaks and dips in your listening area, and for creating custom subwoofer output based on personal listening preferences. Allows you to set the desired center frequency (20, 22, 25, 28, 30-200Hz in 1Hz steps) of the filter, increase or decrease the SPL dB (-12 to +6dB in 1dB steps) of the filter, or adjust the bandwidth (0.2-10.0 in 0.1 steps) of the filter.
- Room Gain Compensation: The Room Gain Compensation function allows the subwoofer to be set to compensate for the increase in low frequency sound based upon the size of the room, if it is felt there is too much bass. Small rooms will have a greater increase in low frequency sound than larger rooms. There is no need to use this control unless it is felt there is too much low frequency energy being generated in the listening environment. The RGC Frequency can be set to 25, 31, or 40Hz. The RGC Slope can be set to 6dB or 12dB.
- Custom Presets: Allows up to three pre-saved settings for movie, music and custom. This enables easy switching to optimize your SB17-Ultra R|Evolutions output and settings based on your specific listening preferences with different kinds of content.
Note: The rear-panel also features a simple user interface with display and push-button controls that can be used to adjust basic subwoofer settings such as Volume, Low Pass Filter, and Phase.
Balanced & Unbalanced Connectivity: There are two types of input & output connectors on the SB17-Ultra R|Evolution powered sub; Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA. There are Left/Right input and output channels for both types of connectors. XLR balanced connections and cables guard again unwanted noise in the audio signal.
- Inputs: For a single mono input connection to a home theater receiver with an LFE output, use the powered sub's right input that is labeled "LFE". For stereo receivers without an LFE input, use both the L/R inputs.
- Outputs: The output connectors are typically used to either daisy-chain additional subwoofers with single or dual unfiltered outputs, or as the input to a power amplifier for the Left and Right main channels after using the High Pass Filter and Delay functions with two channel analog preamps.
Optional Wireless Connectivity: If you want to add wireless connectivity via the SVS SoundPath Wireless Audio Adapter (sold separately), the SB17-Ultra R|Evolution conveniently includes a rear-panel USB-A input to easily power the receiver of the SoundPath Wireless Audio Adapter. The optional SVS SoundPath Wireless Audio Adapter gives you to ability to add wireless connectivity between the SVS powered subwoofer and your AV receiver or preamplifier. It transmits a pristine audio signal up to 65' at CD-quality (16-bit/48KHz) with ultra-low latency. The SVS SoundPath Wireless Audio Adapter consists of a wireless audio transmitter and receiver.
- Transmitter: The transmitter is equipped with a 3.5mm audio input and connects to your AV receiver or preamplifier via the included 20" mono minijack-to-RCA cable or 20" stereo minijack-to-RCA cable.
- Receiver: The receiver is equipped with a 3.5mm audio input and connects to your powered subwoofer or powered speakers using the included 20" mono minijack-to-RCA cable or 20" stereo minijack-to-RCA cable.
Notes:
- The transmitter and receiver are synched at the time of manufacture and will pair automatically when connected and powered on.
- Avoid placing the transmitter next to other wireless devices that could create signal interference, such as mobile phones, baby monitors, 2.4 GHz wireless phones and 2.4 GHz WiFi routers.
- Always try to keep a line-of-sight between the transmitter and receiver units with no hard barriers or walls between them for best performance.
Placement Options: The location of the powered subwoofer in the listening environment can affect its performance. If possible, start with corner placement on the same wall as the front speakers, or anywhere along the front stage in between or outside of your main speakers
- Corner Placement: Corner Placement: offers huge impact and reduces the potential to encounter bass nulls, or "dead spots". If "boominess" occurs, you can try pulling it away from the wall and using the DSP tuning controls to smooth performance.
- Front Placement: In between or to the side of the front channel speakers often results in the best blending with the main speakers and center channel and minimizes localization effects.
- Side Wall Placement: Side wall placement is less frequently used, but can be an effective subwoofer location for excellent accuracy and output.
Note: To maximize the bass output and impact of your home theater, two SB17-Ultra R|Evolution(s) can be paired; one on either side of your room.
Trigger & IR Inputs: The powered sub's 3.5mm Trigger Input (3V-12V) will automatically turn the subwoofer on/off when a signal is sent to it from another component in the system (typically the pre/pro or AV receiver). The other component in the system must be equipped with a trigger output feature and requires a TS 1/8" mono-minijack cable (sold separately). In addition, there is a 3.5mm IR input for easy integration with 3rd party control systems (sold separately).
Auto/Standby & On Switch: If this switch is set to "Auto/Standby", it will automatically turn-on the powered subwoofer in the presence of an audio signal. If no signal is present for a period of several minutes, the powered subwoofer will enter "Standby" mode, where power consumption will be less than 0.5 watts. If this switch is set to "On", the amplifier will remain on continuously and will not enter "Standby" mode.
Detachable AC Power Cord: The included extra heavy-duty, high current 6' power cord (IEC 3-prong) plugs into the back of the powered sub and into an AC power wall outlet or surge protector/line-conditioner (sold separately).

This was my first SVS sub after owning several other high-end brands and being quite happy. This sub is in a large space and the realism and power is second to none. I am very happy about the quality, the app control, and the sound. One is enough, but two would make it insanely awesome.
