"Beautiful sound, Beautifully made
Sebastian from Greenville, SC on 9/20/2024
My best friend, and fellow bachelor Uses this as the center channel speaker with a Marantz IMAX multi channel receiver (unsure of the exact model number, but it looks like it weights 100 lbs) 1000w dedicated sonic transducer. The sound is simply beautiful. Clear and powerful. I like the glossy piano black finish as well. We demo'd the scene in First Contact, wherein captain Jean Luc Picard is Blasting Berlioz in his private quarters. Immense. Having a bit of an eclectic home theater setup , I asked "curious, why McIntosh
Pros: Sound, aesthetics, not overly protruding.
Cons: ?

Almost Perfect
Michael from Los Angeles, CA on 2/8/2022
The sound from this speaker,as others have said, is near flawless. I use it as a center speaker paired with a sub and like surround speakers. I mounted it horizontally on the wall and the included hardware worked perfectly. One minor quibble, the polarity is not marked anywhere on the speaker itself and you have to rely on a very sketchy drawing to determine + and -. I may be missing something here and if I am , I'm sure someone will set me straight. It also would be nice if there was a mounting template for drilling as the hardware is very exact but at this price range most people will hire an installer I suppose. All in all very happy with the speaker.
Pros: Amazing Sound, smallish footprint
Cons: Manual is a tad confusing, especially the mounting and polarity

An Incredible LCR Speaker
TJ from Weston, CT on 6/27/2021
No doubt this is one of [if not] the best center channel speakers out there. As another owner stated, pairing the LCR80 up with the XR50s (left and right) is a jaw-dropping experience. I get goosebumps almost every time I turn them on. Not many speakers can lay that claim. I have owned my XR50s and LCR80 for about 4 years now and these are simply the most natural-sounding speakers I have ever heard. The voices, especially, sound incredibly natural, and that is precisely the kind of sound you want for music (and video) playback. Try these out with Livingston Taylor's rendition of "Isn't She Lovely" and you will understand what I mean when I say "natural". McIntosh truly outdid themselves here!
Pros: Everything about the LCR80 is fantastic. It looks amazing. It sounds amazing. It handles loads of power. I still can't get over how life-like it sounds!
Cons: You have to pay to play.

McIntosh LCR80
Crutchfield customer from Wellesley, MA on 7/2/2020
Amazing sound from such a small package. I bought this because I needed a smaller center channel. Many of the better rated center channel speakers are very deep. This fits nicely in my setup. This was more expensive than many of the others, but the sound is great and very "pure". Every detail is well engineered from the speaker terminals to the nicely finished case. The mounting options are also excellently engineered with sturdy brackets provided. I'm using this as the center channel in a 5.2.4 system with Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-8060FA, plus two sub-woofers and found the combination to be excellent.
Pros:
Cons: Top notch relatively small center channel speaker

Excelent speakers
Thomas from Carmichael, CA on 12/10/2018
There is a real difference between quality speakers, such as this one, and the others. It is a very good complement to my Tektron Double Impacts. The plus side of excellent speaker such as this McIntosh is that HQ music sounds even better. The down side is it makes poor quality music seem even worse. I strongly recommend these speakers.
Pros: Makes high quality music sound even better. You can hear different dimensions of music that is missing with lower quality music.
Cons: High quality speakers maker lower quality recordings sound even worse. I have to search YouTube for HQ versions of music.

Truly exceptional sound
Crutchfield customer from Durham, NC on 2/19/2018
McIntosh has always made exceptional speakers, and this is no exception. The sound is the best I have ever heard from a center speaker, which is how I am using it. Throw away your sound bar, buy a pair of McIntosh XR50's for your front L and R speakers, and you will experience a new world of sound! Highly recommended and well worth the price.
Pros: Unmatched quality in every dimension
Cons: None
