Take off into the clouds in first-person

The only thing cooler than zipping a drone through the air is flying one in first-person. The DJI Avata is an agile mini drone that fits in your palm and lets you experience the skies like a falcon in flight. Fly in crystal-clear first-person up to an impressive 60 mph — all while seeing the world through the drone's "eyes."
DJI Avata Fly Smart Combo with mini FPV drone with gimbal-mounted 4K camera, motion controller, and FPV goggles

The DJI Avata is wildly fast for its size and lets you fly in immersive first-person.

While you're up there, you can use the Avata's gimbal-mounted camera to capture detailed 48-megapixel stills and smooth 4K video. And built-in image stabilization and distortion correction keeps your video nice and clean while you nail sweet turns at high speeds.

DJI's first "cinewhoop" drone

The DJI Avata is DJI's first cinewhoop-style drone. The class of tiny 'copter build comes from the drone racing scene and is designed from the ground up for maximum agility, allowing racers to zoom around tight corridors on indoor courses. The "cine" part of the term "cinewhoop" comes from the design's unparalleled stability, which helps it capture cinematic footage while going fast and furious on the track.

Explore with updated motion controls and goggles

This Explorer Combo comes with the upgraded DJI RC Motion 2 controller and the new DJI Integra Goggles, so you've got everything you need to take to the skies in style. The goggles offer a crisp 1080p/100fps live view with dual micro-OLED screens. And they're lightweight with cooling vents to keep them comfortable during long flights. The whole set looks like something straight out of a sci-fi novel, with a sleek, futuristic design that begs to be played with.

With the goggles strapped on and controller in hand, you can take your immersion to the next level. Tilt and turn the RC Motion 2 to produce corresponding movements with the drone. And an on-screen icon helps orient your motions so they feel natural and intuitive. The buttons on the remote are simple too, letting you accelerate with the pull of a trigger and take pictures with a quick thumb-press. The RC Motion 2 even lets you fly backwards with its new reverse function, helping you scoot out of tight situations the same way you came in. This is about the coolest way to fly a drone, hand-down.

Intuitive control modes

The DJI Avata has three core flight modes:

  • N Mode is designed for beginners, with easy controls and the help of downward obstacle sensing that can decelerate the drone automatically to help avoid collisions.
  • M Mode is for advanced flyers, giving you complete control and letting you fly at max speed. Once you're comfortable, few drone experiences can match swooshing by scenery at full throttle with this drone.
  • S Mode is a hybrid designed to make it easy to snag cool first-person footage. It uses simplified, manual controls that bridge the gap between N and M Mode.

These modes are each designed for different experiences and skill levels. There's something here for every type of flyer.

Strong, stable wireless connection

Getting a fuzzy feed or losing the video connection entirely mid-flight could be disastrous with a drone this fast. Luckily, the Avata uses an impressive low-latency transmission system. This wireless technology automatically switches between two different bands (2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz), to resist pesky interference and provide reliable high-definition video transmission. At less than 30 milliseconds of latency, the video feed and control over your drone stay sharp and responsive, letting you relax and focus on the thrill of flying in first-person.

With a range up to 6.2 miles, you also have some serious flexibility. You can ride the wind, skimming over a mountainside or through a ravine with your feet planted safely on terra firma.

Learn to fly, then share it online

DJI makes it easy to start learning how to fly in first-person. The DJI Fly app has comprehensive tutorials and the DJI Virtual Flight app lets you connect the goggles and remote controller to run through simulated flying exercises, helping you get prepped for your first real flight. Before you know it, you'll be zipping the drone overhead with confidence. The Avata even has built-in propeller guards, which give you some protection in case you have an accidental bump or two during your first flight.

You can also edit your footage directly within the Fly app. Built-in filters, background music, and professionally designed video templates help you splice together cool content in minutes. Connect to SkyPixel, DJI's social media platform, to share your creations with other hobbyists in the community.

GEO (Geospatial Environment Online) System: DJI's Geospatial Environment Online (GEO) System is a global information system that provides real-time information on flight safety and restriction updates, preventing UAVs from flying in restricted airspace.

Note: DJI Avata users are responsible for their own flight safety and must consult with local authorities on the legal and regulatory requirements before requesting flight in a restricted area.

OcuSync 3.0+ Technology (O3+): The Avata utilizes DJI's most up-to-date and upgraded OcuSync 3.0+ transmission technology (O3+) for a strong and reliable wireless transmission signal with ultra-smooth, clear, and reliable image footage. This provides a 1080p/100fps feed at distances of up to 6.2 miles* (10km) away allows you to not only see more, but to fly further in a safe and reliable way. OcuSync 3.0+ and two 2T2R integrated antennas on the DJI Avata support omnidirectional signal reception, offering sensitive and stable signal when the drone is flying above or ahead. A stronger transmission signal is absolutely critical when flying a drone. An increased signal means pilots can fly farther and see more. It also means increased safety as loss of signal is less likely. And with a low-latency feed, pilots are more able to get the precise shots and movements they want for a better flight and filming experience.

  • 1080p HD Video: OcuSync 3.0+ (O3+) has a video transmission distance of up to 6.2 miles* (10 km) and can deliver a 1080p/100fps resolution livestream directly from the drone's camera to a set of DJI goggles (sold separately).
  • Dual Band: OcuSync 3.0+ (O3+) utilizes  2.4/5.8GHz dual-frequency communication and automatically switches to the best channel with the lowest interference in real time and low latency (30-40 ms). This significantly improves the aircraft's anti-interference ability in challenging environments, increasing flight safety.

*Unobstructed, free of interference, and when FCC-compliant. Maximum flight range specification is a proxy for radio link strength and resilience.

DJI Fly App: The DJI Avata requires the DJI Fly app (for Apple iOS 11.0+ and Android OS 6.0+), which has been designed to provide you with intuitive controls that make flight easier than ever. The DJI Fly app offers a simple and intuitive user experience, letting you create cinematic shots that you can share. Your compatible smartphone running the DJI Fly app provides the video feed from the Avata's camera to a set of DJI goggles (sold separately) while flying.

  • Live Video Feed: The DJI Fly app provides a live video feed on your compatible Apple iOS or Android mobile device.
  • Flight Status: Parameters like signal strength, flying mode, altitude, distance, and battery level are easily visible during flight so you always have access to the latest information.
  • Camera Settings: With a sleek and efficient interface, DJI Fly provides an expanded view for composition and shooting. You can easily adjust camera parameters, quickly switch between shooting modes, and adjust the gimbal angle on the screen
  • Editing Suite: Shooting, editing, and sharing can all be done the the DJI Fly app. You can also easily manage storage with the ability to export or delete footage directly in the app.

  • The DJI Fly App is not compatible with all Apple iOS and Android devices; click here for a compatibility list.
  • The DJI Avata is not compatible with previous and other DJI apps. Only use the DJI Fly app.

Flight Modes: The DJI Avata has three Flight Modes (Normal/Sport/Manual), which can be switched via the Flight Mode switch on the included controller.

  • Normal Mode: In this mode, the aircraft utilizes GNSS, the Downward Vision System, a well as the Infrared Sensing System to locate and stabilize itself. When the GNSS signal is strong, the aircraft uses GNSS for location and stabilization. When the GNSS is weak and the lighting conditions are sufficient, the aircraft uses vision systems for location and stabilization. Maximum speed is 17.9 mph in Normal mode.
  • Sport Mode: In Sport mode, the aircraft uses GNSS and the Downward Vision System to automatically stabilize itself. The aircraft's responses are optimized for agility and speed, making it more responsive to flight commands. It can reach a maximum speed of 31.3 mph in Sport Mode. The obstacle avoidance system is disabled in Sport mode, which means the aircraft cannot sense obstacles and avoid them automatically.
  • Manual Mode: Provides the classis FPV (First Person View) control mode with the highest maneuverability, making it ideal for racing and freestyle flying. All flight assistance functions such as automatic stabilziation are disabled. Proficient control skills are required for Manual Mode.

Low-Altitude Flight: The DJI Avata is designed for low-altitude flight, letting you fly close to the ground with a super-wide FOV, providing an exhilarating perspective while flying.

Halt & Hover: An Emergency Brake button on the optional motion controller (sold separately) lets you bring the Avata to an abrupt stop, keeping it hovering in place until additional commands are sent.

Return To Home (RTH): The Return to Home (RTH) function brings the aircraft back to the last recorded Home Point when the GNSS signal is strong. Three types of RTH are available:

  • Smart RTH: Smart RTH can be used to bring the aircraft back to the Home Point when the GNSS signal is sufficient. Smart RTH can be initiated and canceled from the connected controller, allowing the pilot to regain control of the aircraft.
  • Low Battery RTH: The DJI Avata can intelligently determine whether the current battery charge is sufficient to return to the Home Point based on the current location. Low Battery RTH is triggered when the flight battery is depleted to the point that the craft may not be able to return safely.
  • Failsafe RTH: If the Home Point was successfully recorded and the compass is functioning normally, Failsafe RTH activates after the remote control signal has been lost for more than 3.5 seconds.

Note: If the aircraft's video link signal is lost during flight while the remote controller is still able to operate the movements of the aircraft, there will be a prompt to initiate RTH that can be canceled.

Landing Protection: Landing Protection will activate during Smart RTH. Once the aircraft has determined the ground is suitable for landing, the aircraft will land gently. If the ground is determined unsuitable for landing, the aircraft will exit landing, hovering until manual contol can be regained.

Flight Recorder: Flight data including flight telemetry, aircraft status information, and other parameters are automatically saved to the internal data recorder of the DJI Avata. The data can be accessed using the DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series) software program that is compatible with Windows PC and Mac. The DJI Assistant 2 software can also be used for updating the firmware on the aircraft and the controller.

DJI Virtual Flight App: The DJI Virtual Flight app (for Apple iOS 11.0+) allows you to practice flying in lifelike, simulated scenarios before taking off in the real world. Simply connect the DJI goggles and remote controller (both sold separately), and you’re ready to master flight in a risk-free virtual environment

GEO (Geospatial Environment Online) System: DJI's Geospatial Environment Online (GEO) System is a global information system that provides real-time information on flight safety and restriction updates, preventing UAVs from flying in restricted airspace.

Note: Avata users are responsible for their own flight safety and must consult with local authorities on the legal and regulatory requirements before requesting flight in a restricted area.

FAA Rules & Regulations: Please familiarize yourself with the FAA's rules & regulations for unmanned aircraft systems before flying your drone. Click here for more details.

Gimbal Camera

Gimbal Camera: The DJI Avata features a single-axis gimbal camera that supports tilt angle adjustment, allowing you to capture clear and stable images and video at high speed. The mechanical Tilt range is -80° to +65° and can be adjusted from the connected controller. There are two gimbal operations modes available which will switch automatically based on the selected Flight Mode.

  • Normal/Sport Mode: The gimbal is in attitude stabilization mode, with the tilt angle remaining stable relative to the horizontal plane.
  • Manual Mode: The gimbal is in lock mode, with the tilt angle stable relative to the aircraft.

1/1.7" CMOS Image Sensor: With its 1/1.7" CMOS image sensor with 48 million effective pixels, the DJI Avata is capable of 4K(3840x2160)/60fps HD video and 4K photos. The aperture of the camera is f2.8 and can shoot at 1.9' (0.6m) to infinity. This allows you to capture more visual information in every shot, ensuring rich, dynamic, professional-level results. The 1/1.7" CMOS image sensors delivers countless benefits, especially on a drone as compact and lightweight as the DJI Avata. Essentially, a larger sensor means bigger pixels, and each pixel can collect more visual information. That means you can enjoy higher dynamic range, better resolutions, more accurate color, and excellent details in both the highlights and low lights of any scene. It also ensures more flexibility when editing footage.

  • Low Light Performance: When it comes to low-light performance, a bigger sensor is critical as it's able to take in and process more information. The 1/1.7" sensor on the DJI Avata allows for the individual pixels to be larger. The purpose of a pixel is to absorb light and produce an electrical signal, which is then converted into a digital image signal. The more light the sensor can absorb, the stronger the image signal will be. So, a sensor with larger pixels will collect more light data and have better performance in low-light situations. A bigger sensor will allow you to shoot at a lower ISO, which produces cleaner overall images.
  • Dynamic Range:  The larger sensor and bigger pixels on the DJI Avata mean that each pixel can collect more information compared to smaller pixels. This allows for more information in both the highlights and shadows of an image, letting users capture richer details and more nuance in any environment.
  • Editing Footage: The larger 1/1.7" CMOS image sensor also gives you more freedom when it comes to your editing. Whether it's brightening up a dark image, recovering details in the shadows/highlights, pushing colors further, or even cropping.

4K Video: The DJI Avata lets you capture stunning footage in up to 4K/60fps, ensuring video results are as epic and dynamic as the shooting location, and retain extreme quality and details - even when shown on larger displays. Video is recorded in MP4 (H.265). The HEVC (H.265) video codec records more image information, uses less storage, and preserves the dynamic range and detail of your footage, ensuring next-level content.

  • Video Resolution: 4K (3840x2160) @50/60fps, 2.7K (2720x1530) @ 50/60/100fps, or 1080p (1920x1080) @ 50/60/100fps

Still Photos: With its 1/1.7" CMOS image sensor, the Avata can capture 12MP (4000x3000) photos. Still images are recorded in JPEG. You can select Auto (100-6400) or Manual 100-25600) ISO mode.

microSD Card Slot: In addition to its 20GB internal memory, the Avata features a microSD card slot for storage of MP4 videos and JPEG photos on a microSD/SDHC/SDXC memory card (up to 256GB, memory card sold separately). A UHS-I Speed Grade 3 rating microSD card is required due to the fast read and write speed necessary for high-resolution video data.

Rechargeable Battery

Intelligent Flight Battery: The DJI Avata is powered by a high-density, rechargeable Llithium-ion Intelligent Flight Battery that has a capacity of 2420mA/14.76V. This battery can provide a maximum hover time of 18 minutes (with 0 wind). The operating temperature for the battery is 14°F to 104°F. The battery must be fully charged before using it for the first time. The DJI Intelligent Flight Battery in the Avata adopts the latest technologies to ensure that the flight control system is able to obtain accurate battery level. This allows it to calculate remaining flight times more accurately. It also gives pilots a full understanding of the overall battery status, including real-time battery cell status, temperature and more - all in the DJI Fly app on your smartphone. Battery features include:

  • Balanced Charging: During charging, voltage to the battery cells is automatically balanced.
  • Auto-Discharging Function: To prevent swelling, the battery will automatically discharged to approximately 96% when idle for one day, and approximately 60% when idle for nine days.
  • Overcharge Protection: The battery stops charging automatically once fully charged.
  • Temperature Detection: The battery only charges within a temperature range of 41° F to 104° F, and will automatically stop charging if the temperature of the battery cells exceeds 131° F.
  • Overcurrent Protection: The battery automatically stops charging if excess current is detected.
  • Over-Discharge Protection: Discharging automatically stops to prevent excess discharge when the battery is not in use. Over-Discharge protection is not enabled when the battery is in use.
  • Short Circuit Protection: The power supply is automatically cut if a short circuit is detected.
  • Battery Cell Damage: The DJI Fly app (with either controller type) will display a warning when a damaged battery cell is detected.
  • Hibernation Mode: If the battery drops below 3.0V or 10% capacity, the battery enters Hibernation mode to prevent over-discharge. Charging the battery will 'wake' it back up.
  • Communication: Battery information, including the Voltage, Capacity, and Current are transmitted to the controller.

Battery Charging: The DJI Avata's Intelligent Flight Battery can be charged using the included charging dock and USB-C cable plugged into an AC/USB charger (sold separately).
