Features
10" Long-Throw Woofer + 10" Passive Bass Radiator: The Sonus faber Gravis II powered sub houses a down-firing 10" long-throw woofer, plus a front-firing 10" passive bass radiator for accurate and expressive bass reproduction. Both the 10" long-throw woofer and passive bass radiator feature a lightweight treated paper cone, wide rubber surround, and stamped steel-frame.
350 Watt (RMS) Class AB Amplifier: The 10" long-throw treated paper cone woofer is powered by a built-in 350 watt (RMS) / 750W (Peak) class AB amplifier that delivers dynamic, impactful bass for your movie and music soundtracks.
Multi-Layer Wood Enclosure: The Gravis II powered subwoofer features a multi-layer wood enclosure that is available in a gloss black or matte white finish. Both finishes feature a black soft "leather-like" top for a luxurious appearance and feel.
Rear-Panel Controls: The Onus faber Gravis II offers a variety of rear-panel controls (Volume, Crossover, Phase) to fine-tune and blend the powered subwoofer with your stereo or home theater speaker system.
- Volume Level: The Gravis II has two separate volume level controls - one for the powered sub's LFE input and another for the subwoofer's mono-RCA and Neutrik 4-Pole Speakon input. Each level control adjusts the subwoofer's volume relative to the rest of your speaker system. After the level control has been set, the volume control of your AV or stereo receiver will be the volume control for both the Sonus faber powered subwoofer and your connected loudspeakers.
- Low Pass Crossover: The variable low pass crossover is adjustable from 30Hz to 120Hz, and has a fixed slope of 24 dB/oct. The crossover point chosen determines where low bass frequencies are "handed-off" from your system's other loudspeakers to the Gravis II powered subwoofer. The low pass crossover is only active when using the powered sub's mono-RCA input or Neutrik 4-Pole Speakon input. The sub's LFE input bypasses the low pass crossover and will use the low pass crossover and bass management system of your AV receiver.
- Phase Switch: The Phase switch is used to acoustically match the subwoofer's output to your main speakers. Select the position (either 0 or 180 degrees) in which the subwoofer has more output when seated in your main listening position.
Line-Level & Speaker-Level Inputs: The Gravis II is outfitted with line-level (LFE/Mono-RCA) and speaker-level inputs (Neutrik 4-Pole Speakon) for integration into your existing stereo or home theater setup.
- LFE (Low Frequency Effect): Most of today's AV receivers have a LFE (low frequency effect) output to connect a powered subwoofer. If your receiver has an LFE output, connect one end of a mono subwoofer cable (sold separately) to this output and connect the other end of the cable to the Gravis II powered sub's LFE input.
- Mono-RCA: In absence of a LFE (low frequency effect) output on your AV or stereo receiver, you can connect the mono or stereo preouts from your receiver to the mono-RCA line input on the Gravis II powered subwoofer (a stereo-to-mono RCA adapter cable may be required and sold separately).
- Neutrik 4-Pole Speakon: If your AV or stereo receiver has neither a LFE or preout, you can connect your receiver's left & right front channel speaker outputs to the Gravis II powered sub's Neutrik 4-Pole Speakon input using the supplied interconnect cable.
Note: The mono-RCA input and Neutrik 4-Pole Speakon input will utilize the powered sub's low pass crossover. The LFE input bypasses the low pass crossover and will use the low pass crossover and bass management system built into your AV receiver.
Mounting & Placement Options: The Gravis II features four robust feet on the bottom of its enclosure to isolate the powered sub from the floor and reduce unwanted vibration that can lead to distorted sound. For optimum performance, place the subwoofer in a corner of the room on the same wall as your front channel speakers. Please note that room placement can have a dramatic effect on the performance of the powered subwoofer. Corner placement will increase the amount of bass output, while placing the subwoofer along the middle of a wall, or out in the room will decrease the amount of bass output.
Note: If two Gravis 1 powered subwoofers are used, it is recommended to install one on the left side and one on the right side of the main listening area. Do not position the subwoofers next to each other.
Auto On/Standby: The Gravis II powered subwoofer will automatically turn On when it senses an audio signal. It will automatically go into "Standby mode" after approximately 20 minutes with no audio signal. You can also choose to turn the powered sub On or Off manually from the rear-switch on the back.
Detachable AC Power Cord: The Sonus faber Gravis II comes with a 6' detachable IEC 2-prong AC power cord (C13) that plugs into the back of the powered subwoofer and into an AC power outlet or surge protector/line-conditioner (sold separately - see Accessories Tab).
