Purchased the Elac Vela 409 speaker in November from Crutchfield. They are paired with a Emotiva XPA_7 power amp and the Marantz AV 7705 pre amp. The finish and looks of the 'Elacs are outstanding. They look great in the room. But you buy speakers for the sound and these do not disappoint. They are have outstanding sound width and sound depth. The sound stage sound much wider than where the speakers are. The ribbon tweeter brings out great sounding highs. The sound of the drum cymbals come alive. The speakers are paired with 2 subwoofer. Because they go down to 28Hz, they seem to bring out puncher bass in my room. Purchased these before black Friday for a great price. Of course Crutchfield was great to deal with.

Pros: Great high and low frequencies

Cons: none

Good speakers for a large room

I bought the bookshelf speakers in this line in the summer and have really enjoyed them. I wanted to upgrade the speakers in my main listening room and eliminate a sub-woofer, and figured I would go for the best in this line. It didn't quite work out. The speakers sound great at high volume. They are also fairly tall and don't sound great at low to moderate volumes, imo. My room is a decent size (about 25x13, vaulted ceiling) but I listen across the room and so the moderate volume is more to my liking. At this moderate volume the bass was a bit weak and the highs too bright. Essentially an unbalanced sound. I also prefer to listen with tone controls bypassed. On the brightness, source equipment is a Vincent all-tube pre-amp and an NAD 298C (340 W at 4 ohms). A lot of detail is provided by these components, the combination of which is fantastic. I also found myself looking up at the speakers; my ears were about level with the upper woofer when in my listening position. Overall, I think if you have a large room and like to play music at higher volume, they could be great. After a roughly 30 hour break-in, I cranked them up some and my son said afterwards that he heard a Dire Straits song playing and that it sounded like a concert was playing in the room. PS There was a hole in one side of one shipping box. It was on the side where the upper bass driver was located, and there were some gouges in the speaker surround. I was not impressed with the packaging.

Pros: Very detailed and clear high frequencies; bass is there when you crank up the volume.

Cons: Need to be played at higher volumes to get full and balanced sound.

If you're not buying these because of the cost, Save Up, you will be impressed. This pair of speakers can make any pandemic seem like a walk in the park. No speaker fatigue at all. Thank you Crutchfield for having them available.

Pros: Clarity, Smoothness, Soundstage, Modern Design

Cons: There is nothing not to like, they are truly superb.
