I've had my fair share of A/V equipment over the years but this thing takes the cake. So easy to set-up and use. Simple controls in the Settings. Easy to use with the remote. I like the large display because it's easy to read from the listening position. Add me to the long list of reviewers urging you to buy the Anthem AVM 70 8K. It's awesome.

Pros: Easy to use. Works great right out of the box. Remote is easy to use. Sound is awesome.

Cons: None.

Never go to the movie theater again.

Matthew from MUSKEGON, MI on 6/7/2025

Verified employee review (What's this?)

The AVM70 8k is the best Home theater sound processor I have ever owned. I've had three or four AV receivers in the past. The room correction on those were adequate. When I finally got the AVM70 8K and separate amplifiers I learned what home theater could really sound like. I never go to the movie theater anymore. There is a steep learning curve for running the Anthem ARC Genesis room correction and setting up the web interface for this processor. I found a comprehensive You Tube video that is 27 minutes long that was a major help. It took me more than a day and several tries to run ARC Genisis correctly and understand what I was doing. In the past two years I've added speakers and moved speakers several times and run ARC Genesis each time. I am continually learning and each time I run it the result sounds better than before. One thing I had to do to get the Anthem microphone to work was to disable the microphone in my laptop. It took me a while to figure that out. Anthem also individually sets each of two subwoofer outputs. Also, the three amplifier triggers allow me to run only the amplifiers each sound profile uses. I currently have the AVM70 8K running a 5.2.4 system. After my latest room correction profile the sound of movies in Dolby ATMOS is incredible. The race scene in Ready Player 1 is totally immersive. I can hear the cars whipping past and the explosions shake my room. This latest ARC profile has convinced me to add two rear surrounds so that's next

Pros: Comprehensive web interface to set up the system ARC Genesis does almost all the work in setting up the room correction. Has 2 independent sub outs. 3 triggers to power on/off the amplifiers. Sound processors and amplifiers never run out of power for the speakers, just add another amplifier or upgrade to amps with more channels or more power if needed. The Anthem app is very useful for minor tweaks like lip synching the TV to the audio. I get good, clean sound using the RCA out

Cons: Steep learning curve, it takes time the first attempt. Sometimes the IP address of the web interface changes, always check if it's different when opening the web interface. ARC Genesis usually sets the bass too weak. Must add more bass after running ARC. The microphone stand is awkward to use. The RCA outs are too close together if you use RCA connections. Be careful when connecting everything. Get amplifiers with balanced inputs if possible. Those are spaced well on the AVM70 8K

Worthy Upgrade or New Purchase

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Upgrading from an internet retailer processor beginning with an E and ending with an A. Not their top unit, less than $1000 years and years ago. Was good but kept on wondering if more $$$ was really worth it. Well the Anthem is about 4x the cost but honestly 4x the marginal utility. Sound improvement was way impressive. Better separation, more detail, all of that. Really happy with that. As for that internet retailer, I have their 7 channel amp which I really do like, so no shade on them at all. What was unexpected was the improvement in video. Finally getting HDR to my projector screen that I always seemed to be missing. Bright, vivid colors, just incredibly different than going through my old processor. I'm a fan. What also really surprised me was how quiet it was. My first setup with balanced connectors. Yikes, what a difference. Quiet scenes are dead quiet. I must have always had some noise leaking through that I never noticed until it was gone even though I was using pretty good unbalanced (RCA) connectors. Remote app on your phone or tablet as well as unit control via your browser are easy to use. No issues for me. ARC room correction is also amazing and worth the investment in the Anthem. Watch the Crutchfield video on it to save you some grief. Bottom line, I'm a fan.

Pros: Sound Improvement - Separation, detail Video - Great pass through and upscaling ARC Genesis Room Correction - Amazing for me iPhone and iPad control, works well Browser control - Great

Cons: Cost - wish it were $500 less to track better with spousal approval.

Great Hardware with Dismal Manual, WiFi and App Setup

Verified employee review (What's this?)

From a hardware and connecting the cables perspective, the Anthem AVM 70 8K was great. Programming my Harmony remote to simultaneously turn on the Anthem and other peripherals while selecting the desired input and HDMI was easy and satisfying. Using the Anthem on-screen display or Anthem remote to configure my speakers was also easy. I'm satisfied with the role the Anthem plays as the focal point for my home AV system. Where things fall apart are in trying to connect the Anthem to your WiFi and use the downloadable app. The manual and online resources from the Anthem website amounted to a few useless frustrating sentences. (I found the answer in an on-line audio-video forum, which also reflect the opaqueness of the Anthem manual.) Equally frustrating and useless is the info on the Anthem website to connect and use the Anthem Room Correction (ARC) software and hardware. Good luck with that. So, 5 starts for hardware, 1 star for the headaches.

Pros: Nice hardware, easy to connect my devices

Cons: Terrible manual and online support for connecting to the home WiFi and making sense of the Anthem Room Correction hardware and software.

It took quite some time to get this processor up and working. There is a learning curve, and I recommend watching both the Crutchfield video on YouTube and other third party videos as well. Even after doing all of that, I was stuck. The beast refused to process my speaker sound curves. After some back and forth emails with Anthem (Crutchfield was no help), they sent me a patch to upload into the AVM70, and magically it worked. The sound with the basic processing is great. I'm continuing to learn what else it can do.

Great Processor Upgrade for my theater!

My Anthem AVM 70 is running Dolby Atmos 9.2.6 with 3 Outlaw 5000x amps powering the speakers. From what I read I was expecting to hear more out of the front wides than the middle 2 height channels, but at least for me it seems like I notice the content from the heights more. Might be because of the ARC Genesis room correction. Overall, it sounds awesome. I was able to get it swapped out with my Logitech Harmony remote and it is supported which is great. The web UI is nice/clean/easy to navigate. The AVM is made very well, and I like the look of it. The screen is great, and the menu/settings are easy to navigate. I followed the setup guide that Crutchfield had, and it walked me through the ARC Genesis process, which was fairly painless. It is pretty loud while it's running the test tones so I would suggest ear plugs or hearing protection. I did end up increasing the main sub level because it was a little low for my liking, but it sounds amazing compared to my old setup. The volume adjustment does seem a bit slow/finnicky, so I made sure to set a max volume in the settings which I've seen suggested elsewhere. So far, the volume adjustment is my biggest annoyance, which I consider pretty small. Tested with an Apple TV 4K and my Xbox Series X (mostly with 4k blu-rays).

Pros: Supports Dolby Atmos 9.2.6 RCA and XLR pre-outs ARC Genesis room correction, mic and stand included Web UI is very nice and works well Supports HDMI 2.1 3 output triggers to turn on amplifiers Nice display Sounds Amazing

Cons: Volume adjustment is a little slow/finnicky Even on sale ($800 off) it's a bit expensive No on-screen menu like my old Marantz

Broad soundstage, Big upgrade in my theater

David from Chicago, IL on 12/13/2024

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

This unit was a pain to set up. I ran into the same problems many others have encountered. Specifically, the AVM 70 would only recognize my AppleTV, I couldn't get any other source to display video. The problem turned out to be with the HDMI handshake and the EDID Mode setting on my JVC NZ8. Once I changed the JVC's EDID Mode from A to B, all of my input sources finally fully worked with the AVM. With the HDMI handshake issues resolved, I was able to truly take the AVM for a test drive. Running ARC Genesis was super simple, and I was pretty impressed with the first results. My previous AVR was the Denon AVR-X4500H. I would describe Denon's sound as muscular, deep-throated, and bass-forward. Anthem's ARC sound was immediately more articulated, with a broader sound stage and more emphasis in the middle and upper range. ARC came in a little bass-light for my taste, but I was able to bump that up easily. Overall, I really like what I'm hearing from ARC. The broad sound stage makes my theater feel larger, and the Atmos effects in my 7.2.4 setup now really stand out. I can't wait to rewatch my favorites with ARC's signature sound applied! Small things I like about the AVM 70 are that it starts up instantly, where my Denon usually took 15-30 seconds. The AVM 70 doesn't seem to get too hot. Changes between SDR and HDR are also instantaneous, where my Denon always took a few seconds to switch. Finally, as I hate using a bunch of remotes, the Anthem mobile app is my go-to

Pros: - Broad, articulated sound stage - Hear audio info I was missing before - Runs reasonably cool - Fast switching from SDR to HDR - Lightning-fast startup - Anthem support was very responsive

Cons: - Took a week to set up due to a single, obscure setting in my projector. EDID Mode must be set correctly, but it's never mentioned in their setup docs. - Required a lot of chats with Anthem and Crutchfield support to get working. - ARC Genesis was a little too light on bass

Great configuration options

Dave from Denver, CO on 12/8/2024

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

I choose the AVM 70 8K for my home theater because I wanted to try out amplifier separation and because my 4 ohm Martin Logan XT F100s need some extra "juice" to drive them at rated specs. I chose Monolith 7 and 5 channel amplifiers to complete my 5.1.4 solution. I chose to bi-amp the F100s and was a little disappointed that I could not find a configuration for this in the AVM 70 (something my Anthem MRX 1140 handles through simple configuration). I purchased splitter XLR cables as a workaround, but would have appreciated a configuration setting instead. The sound quality of the AVM 70 is exceptional in both theater and music listening. I feel Anthem Room Correction (ARC) is every bit as good as Dirac that I have used previously. ARC (as well as bass control, and the setup microphone / stand) are included in the price for the AVM. ARC is easily adjusted to fit your specific listening preferences and you can maintain multiple configurations simultaneously (extra bass for movie watching, just the R/L speakers for music listening, etc...). I love that you can setup numerous inputs combined with specific ARC configurations. For instance... input 1: source - Apple TV with full room group listening, input 2: source - Apple TV with sweet spot listening for just one person, input 3: source - music streamer with sweet spot listening and just R/L speakers for stereo, etc, etc.... I have not experienced this level of configuration in previous receivers I have owned

Pros: * Significant configuration options * Sound quality (read the reviews for AVM 70 and AVM 90 on ASR and other sites) * XLR interconnects (for those of us crazy enough to care) * ARC is great * Sound separation and clarity is impressive * Advanced DAC makes streaming (Airplay for example) sound great. * Crutchfield guarantee ensures your complete satisfaction

Cons: * Be prepared for the added expense of external amplifiers (MRX 1140/740/540 with included amplifiers are great alternatives) * In my opinion Included remote is not as refined as Denon, Marantz, Yamaha's I have owned * ARC was producing no sound for me out of the box. Finally found a YouTube video indicating that I should select an analog input before starting ARC and this fixed it for me.

I've had the Anthem AVM70 for less than a week, but I'm pretty impressed. It was purchased to replace a Maranzt AV8805 pre/pro driving a B&K 200x7 amp into an assortment of B&W speakers. The Anthem unit has worked flawlessly. The Marantz I had previously had a lot of annoying pops when powering on, changing functions, etc. The Anthem does not do that. It seems to wait until the signal is good, then raises the volume without being a harsh change. This is nice. The room correction setup seems a lot nicer than the Marantz as well. I seem to notice my surrounds and rears without being too overbearing or forward. Using WiFi through a PC app is simpler than running a 3.5 mm cable from the microphone to the pre/pro and trying to control it with a remote. Overall, I would reccomend.

Initial Setup: First things first - don't expect to unbox this and have movie night the same day. I spent a good weekend getting everything dialed in properly. The web interface is actually pretty intuitive, but there's a lot to configure. The ARC Genesis room correction took me several attempts to get right (tip: take your time with the measurements and keep the room dead quiet). I have a Yamaha top of the line Processor CX-A5200, four years old and I'm looking to upgrade. Anthem AVM 70 8k on sale what a perfect opportunity. Unit was very easy to set up and ARC Genesis very easy to use. This unit has very good channels separation, very clean sound, excellent bass, tight, and not bloated. The problem I have is in the mid range when you're watching a movie it sounds like your in a small room lacking the dynamics and natural sound. Adjusting the curves in the ARC Genesis many times, but still not able to achieve the sound. Even the wife can hear it after I told her what to listen for in the sound.Hooked up the Yamaha and she said it sounds more full and natural. I wanted to love this unit that's why I purchased it. I think this is an excellent unit for the average person. If I didn't have the Yamaha to compare. I would've kept the unit., But it also had a problem with the volume knob on the front of the unit,Volume would go up, but not down. You had to use the remote to adjust anything.

Pros: Very good channel separation. ARC Genesis easy to use.

Cons: Sound quality average.

Just got it in this passed Thursday and I have to say WOW, what an amazing upgrade for my home theater. I am fully entering the world of separates with this processor, I was running a Denon AVR-x4300H prior and this is head and shoulders above as far as results go. The product is very great build quality and comes with an amazing mic kit for calibration. On top of that, the amount of customizability I got when using the ARC Genesis room correction is something I have never experienced before within a processor's software itself. I went straight into the professional mode and was able to tweak everything, my room curve, frequency at which the correction goes up to and the bass management is awesome. Typically I used REW for my bass management but this seems to automate things you have to manually play with constantly in REW. I give this product 5 stars and I am very satisfied. Lastly, if you do prefer more bass, you will have to tweak the bass settings, it is very good at leveling it out so you will feel like you are missing some boom but it is more consistent bass. I just used the bass boost a bit and the room gain etc. Good to go.

One of my favorite all in one processor and Hifi 2ch music listening options. The higher level Denon is very equivalent with the Anthem taking the slight advantage. Bass and dynamics are larger in the Denon while the Anthem is very smooth & Rich with plenty of fine details. My only major complaint is the HDMI handshake can be annoying between occasional commercials or when scrolling through Netflix trailers. However the sound of an anthem is pretty much beautiful and makes it worth dealing with minor handshake issues.

3 years ago I purchased the AVM 60, not realizing that its phase out was immiment. The AVM 60 had replaced an Anthem Statement D2 that just wasn't keeping up with the times. I finally decided to upgrade to the AVM 70 8k, mostly because I wanted HDMI 2.1 and eARC, partly because it was on sale. Installation and setup was a breeze, as was using the ARC room correction to get the sound tuned in. The only downside I've noticed so far is that it doesn't play quite as nicely as the AVM 60 with CEC control, but in only one area, which is related to my TDS TV+ remote control "power off" function, due to the fact that the TDS TV+ box never turns off. To get around all CEC issues that I've run into, I power-up the AV system with my Harmony remote, then control TDS TV+ with its remote, then turn the system off with the Harmony. Other inputs and remotes (Apple TV 4k, Blu-Ray, and LG CX77 TV) all work great. The sound is noticeably cleaner and sharper than the AVM 60. The web based interface is awesome-I just bookmarked it in my browser, can make any desired adjustments on the fly while watching TV, works seamlessly.

I had a Denon AVR-X4800H that I was using in full pre-amp mode, and I bought the AVM 70 on a (well timed) holiday sale when the Denon sadly had to be sent in for servicing. The Anthem, even on sale, cost more than the Denon. So what did I get for the extra money? A nicer remote (back-lit!); a nicer display on the AVR itself (a little LCD screen!); balanced XLR outputs instead of RCA outputs; a better quality microphone plus stand for the room correction system; free room correction software for my PC (instead of Denon/Auyssey's $200 price for the PC software). (For the record, after years of using Audyssey, I find Anthem Room Correction to be easier to use with roughly equal results.) Also, both the Denon X4800H and the Anthem AVM 70 both measure well on Audio Science Review, so check it out of that matters to you.

Pros: Compared to the options in this market, decent value for the dollar, and yes, I've seen the sticker price.

Cons: Separates for 5.1 and more channels are way more expensive than separates for stereo! Probably due to having to route video and cost of licensing fees for surround formats.

I needed to update my old Parasound preamp/processor. I chose the Anthem AVM 70 after spending hours doing research. I am extremely pleased with the sound. I finally have the dynamic range I used to have with my best two channel systems. I always wondered if that was possible. I love ARC Genesis - especially how it handles the subwoofers. My only issue with the AVM 70 is the clunky remote. The volume control on the remote takes some getting used to. When you push continuous up or down there is a delay followed by hyperspeed change. Those issues did not bother me much. I was successful integrating Apple TV, which eliminates both those issues anyway. I was not expecting CEC to work but it works flawlessly with Apple TV. Power on/off, volume control, and mute work every time. I am a relatively new Apple user and I am getting used to nice surprises like this. And the Apple remote is the best remote I have ever used. Now my Anthem setup is perfect. Regarding CEC I tried two current Tivo models and the latest Roku Ultra. Tivo CEC and Roku CEC did not work with the AVM. I never blamed Anthem, and did not expect Apple TV to work either, but it has worked flawlessly since I set it up. FYI my 5.1 system includes Kef LS50 Meta, Kef R6 Meta, Klipsch RP-500SA surrounds, and two 15 inch sealed subwoofers.

I wanted to like the AVM70 8k, but it never worked right. After four months communicating with both Anthem and Crutchfield, the issue remained. I (and Crutchfield) feel it's software. Anthem feels it's hardware. The issue: jumpy volume (by knob or remote). It's random when & how much, but, for example, if I press/hold volume to scroll from 60 to 20, it will get to say 27, instantly jump back to say 55, then scroll down again. It would also jump without input 4 or 5 seconds AFTER releasing the button. I returned the first unit (v76) and Crutchfield sent a replacement. I tested 2nd unit 'straight out of the box' and saw no issues. I then hooked everything up, ran updates (v78), and the issue appeared. Contacted Crutchfield and their tech pulled a third unit and saw the same thing - i.e., no issue before updates, but issues after updates. Crutchfield tech reported their independent test to Anthem. However, despite three random units showing this issue, since I was the only person in the buying population mentioning it, Anthem decided to let the defect remain and wait and see if it becomes an issue to them. In other words, it's not an issue until a bunch of people complain. Due to the issue and Anthem's lack of commitment to fix it, I returned the AVM70 8k, and bought another brand, which has met all expectations. A BIG thanks to everyone at Crutchfield who stuck with me and this issue and did everything they could to put the customer first and 'make it right'.

Serious system centerpiece

Full disclosure - I didn't even come close to exploring everything this Anthem preamp offers, and it offers a lot. I have a simple 3.1 home theater setup currently, and I found that the sound quality for all my sources (including Roku streaming, a connected Cambridge Audio CXN music streamer, a Teac turntable with a Pro-Ject phono preamp, and an Xbox One) all sounded incredibly crisp and natural. The video passed all native resolutions to my Sony TV without any issues. I didn't get a chance to run the room correction software, but I found this preamp's deep settings menu may be a bit intimidating to some customers. I had this piece hidden in a cabinet, so I used the HDMI control (HDMI-CEC) and found it a bit finicky. Volume controls weren't consistent (which I adjusted from the Sony TV remote). But overall, a very robust and excellent centerpiece for an intricate home theater system. I wish I'd had more time with it.

Pros: Excellent sound and massive connection capabilities

Cons: Finicky HDMI-CEC, intimidating menu

Frustrating

It is hard for me to review with high marks even though it sounds great. So did my NAD M15HD2 but is was dated. But it never had any glitches. It's sad to pay so much and continually have problems with the software regarding inputs. I switch to Apple TV and it switches to Oppo. Only with frustration ddi I get it switched. Using TV as source ARC only works 59%. Also my Blu-ray input not right. It isngreyed out in output setup so I cannot delete it. May be that I split audio / video out of the Blu-ray the AVM doesn't seem to know how to handle this. It does not accept using an HDMI for audio only. My NAD did this with ease. No updates seem to be released to take care of these annoyances. And tech assurance by text with Anthem is arduous. Definitely decreases enjoyment when I just can't flip the switch and start watching. .

Pros: Sound great

Cons: Terribly glitchy

Avm 70 8k

Avm70 8k Amazing sound stage and separation, made my speakers come alive because of the high end Dac it has made a difference over the Marantz cinema 40, I've enjoyed it for 45 days since crutchfield has a 60 day trial money back guarantee, spent a lot of time setting up endless hours , Right out of the box it's sounded Fantastic , when I did the ARC Room calibration It didn't sound as good as it was out of the box than ran it a few times more and was not able to get any better sound or improvement . I'm Running Klipsch premier II Towers /SVS Subs 7.2.6 Dolby Atmos configuration with all emotiva Separates , I could not even get CEC to work correctly and was a pain to turn off everything manually, software system is still buggy after the Latest firmware update and therefore I had to send it back . Hopefully 3rd generation will be perfect and bug free and I will gladly purchase again after they fixed all issues.

Pros: XLR , high end Dacs , One of the best sound stage separation for sound processing in its class , Large screen for easy view across the room

Cons: Buggy software , CEC doesn't work right , remote control is little cheesy for such a high end Preamp processor , Bluetooth would disconnect suddenly when playing music for long period of time

Finally entered the world of separates and couldn't be happier. Did quite a bit of research and for what I could afford the Anthem AVM 70 8K had everything I wanted except a USB port but that is easily overcome with my connected Media Center PC. Video matters but music is more important to me and this unit sounded better to me than the others in the price range in that department. The ability to fine tune to the nth degree with the web interface really puts the Anthem line over the top in my mind. Great product!

Pros: Audiophile Sound Quality Web Interface Great ARC

Cons: No USB

Great sound when working..plenty of bugs however.

David from Dickinson, TX on 3/21/2023

Verified employee review (What's this?)

The audio sounds great when it's working. I've experienced random loud static/inaudible noise when listening to both analog or digital sources. The unit also does not support single rear surround speaker configurations which means no Dirac room correction (fails without stereo rears). I do like the unit industrial design and interface which is a step up from NAD that I've had previously. I do prefer the nature of the sound from my previous NAD M15HD2 however the AVM70 did provide a wider sound stage. You can really tell the difference between high quality 24/192 sources and lower quality recordings with the AVM70...double edged sword. I've also experienced numerous eARC failures that were only corrected via disabling and reenabling CEC in the menus which is tedious. I really wanted to like the AVM and wanted to give them a shot. Too bad there are just too many issues to live with for me.

Pros: Great sound and soundstage Industrial design is very modern/striking Web UI is great

Cons: Buggy software No support for single rear surround configurations (6.1.4) Random loud static / inaudible music on multiple inputs (analog and digital) corrected by cycling inputs.

Spectacular Upgrade

I am coming from a MRX1120 and I briefly owned the MRX1140, but it was faulty and I had to return it. I was a little apprehensive to order this due to the issues with the 1140 but I love Anthem's sound for both AV and music. So I rolled the dice and I cannot be happier I did, in fact I have transcended happiness to something otherworldly!! I paired this with a Tone Winner AD-7300 V2 7 channel amp and this not only kicked my poor little MRX1120's booty when it comes to music it is also a marked improvement over the MRX1140. It also does not have the fan noise that accompanies the *40 line, if there is a fan in the 70 I cannot hear it at all **blessed**. Video image is perfect, handles 4K 120hz games no problem but I haven't really put this to a serious test yet, just enough to make sure it works. All in all, I am pretty happy the 1140 was faulty as I got better sound for just a touch more money. Also, Crutchfield was great as always (I tried to change my 1140 review based on their excellent service but couldn't !!)!!

Pros: Exceptional Sound for Both Music and Movies, MM Phono stage, Direct Streaming, Supports 4K 120hz gaming, assignable inputs, just so absolutely luscious for music!!

Cons: Same weird issues as the 1140 with upgrading the firmware, no Roon yet but that is supposed to be coming.

Properly functional H/W and S/W implementation

Rajendra from Plano, TX on 3/19/2023

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Works right out of the box after connecting 4K sources (Apple TV 4K and BD player) to HDMI inputs, TV to HDMI output with eARC and active speakers & 2 subwoofers to XLR speaker outputs. It took some time to go read through the manual to understand the concept of creating "Audio Profiles" and selecting from then for each HDMI input. But the whole thing made sense quickly after seeing the straightforward UI accessible at the IP address of the surround processor. Anthem Room Correction (ARC) is obviously necessary after out of box setup. It was straightforward to use the ARC software and supplied microphone to calibrate the speaker outputs and phases and save it to the surround processor. There is a very noticeable improvement in the sound accuracy after you apply ARC to the audio profiles created.

Pros:

Cons: HDMI CEC with Sony's Bravia Sync seems to hang up the TV every once in a while. But am not sure if the problem is with the SONY or Anthem implementation.

Amazing!

Verified employee review (What's this?)

I upgraded from a Marantz SR7010 AVR, the AVR is temporarily powering my surrounds/4 atmos, I have 3 monoblocks 200W each for L/C/R. The speakers are all def tech. There is a learning curve coming from a D&M product, however, the ARC genesis software is very powerful and customizable. This is definitely a huge upgrade over my previous setup. I'm still dialing it in, but 1st impression is that I should have done this a long time ago, the Anthem unit sounds vastly superior and from the ARC results, I know the software is very advanced compared to the Audessy. The separation is much more pronounced, and the clarity/dialogue is amazing. If there has to be a negative, the bass is a little harder to dial in, you do have to understand room gain, bass boost options, and how they work on the unit. ACR pulls the entire system together, especially after the recent update which now does distances and phase adjustments. This is one impressive unit and the sound quality is truly amazing.

Pros: ARC genesis, sound separation, clarity. Powerful software once you understand how to set/view curves in ARC.

Cons: Bass is a little tricky to dial in but can be done. You need to understand room gain and bass boost in ARC. Use those 1st to get as close as possible and then go for the volume on the sub or DB trim on the unit. Once set, you will get accurate tight dialed-in bass, not boomy uncontrolled bass where the curve hasn't been flatenned.

Anthem makes fantastic Amplifiers but the AVM 70 8K had an issue. When switching Inputs the unit showed the current input but would show a blank screen I know it was not my TV because I purchased a Marantz AV10 and it has no issues when switching inputs. Very disappointed in the Anthem Pre-Pro. They make a wonderful amplifier but their Processor was not fully tested with the 8K board.

Pros: Easy to set up.

Cons: Bad switching 8K Board.

Bye far the easiest setup for a surround sound. Has a very warm feel to the movies and awesome calibration. Using all anthem amps with this unit and golden ear speakers for a 5.1 setup. Would highly recommend this for a true high quality sound system. As usual crutchfeild was a big help for some questions I had. This is why i buy threw them.

Pros: Best of sound. (Dacs) Easy setup. Ease of use.

Cons: Maybe a bit moor on screen of the menu to be displayed on tv.

Verified employee review (What's this?)

This Amthrm Rocks. I honestly at 1st told myself I would not hear any channel separation with 15 speakers in a 14.5x18.3 livingroom. I was dead wrong. This system does it all. Once you set up ARC it is a breeze to run as easy as Audessy. The microphone included is solid metal and very sturdy. I've set up a 9.2.6 & even in my small space I feel like I'm in the movie theater. Gravity, Mad Max and especially Saving Private Ryan WOW. I have to rewatch all my all movies over again because after the theater, my apartment with an Anthem AVM 70 8K is the place to be. Go buy this NOW !!!

Pros: Sound clarity & channel separation all for only this price and Crutchfield allows 3 payment installments. ARC Gensis makes your room sound amazing. Speaker labeling on the back on XLR easy to read.

Cons: You have to get used to the volume starting at negative DB like I did. I'm used to 0 being the absolute low not -70 ??

So far this unit has been fantastic. Fast HDMI Switching, Easy setup via a Browser, and a Solid build quality. Getting ARC to run was a challenge because Anthem only supports Windows and Apple PCs. The promote a Mobile app, but it's not available. Once that hurdle was cleared, running ARC was easy, and the results were great. As always, Crutchfield was great and I had my device a day after it was ordered!

This is an outstanding processor. The channel separation, audio quality, and ARC calibration performance is amazing. Compared to my previous 6 year old high end Denon AVR it surpasses it every facet. The AVM 70 is significantly more expensive than the Denon but for me it is worth every penny. I am using a 7.1 amp with 90 watts per channel. The appearance of the AVM 70 is highly attractive. I love the large volume readout that I can see all across the room easily. Of course it be turned off if needed. The only drawback was the lack of detailed ARC calibration instructions included (I downloaded the full users manual). Luckily there are some excellent Youtube guides on calibration available.

Great upgrade

Finally, I decided to go into a separate world; I had Yamaha receivers for a long time; the last RX-A3070, in 2022, started after about 16 years to upgrade my home theater, added a second SVS subwoofer, upgrade my speakers to Focal 948, add an amplifier Parasound A51, while I was waiting for AVM 70 with HDMI 2.1. I had some challenges in the initial config of the AMV70, config IP address, and config fixed IP address. All initial issues were compensated with the fantastic sound this unit can provide. I spend about 60% listening to music and 40% watching movies. I noticed an excellent improvement in music; I'm still adjusting to my taste; the Web interface helps a lot with the ARC(fantastic). I'm still shocked at watching movies; what an incredible difference a processor can make from a receiver. It is my first processor; at this point, I probably will not return to receivers; I recommend AVM70 8k. It will be a great upgrade for your system, specialty if you come from Yamaha.

Pros: Shocking upgrade to watching movies. Easy interface. ARC does help to improve the audio.

Cons: iOS config is not working with iOS 16 to config IP for the Wifi. Does not work to config a fixed IP address.
