About the JBL Concert Edition Premium Audio Upgrade

Buck Pomerantz

Crank up your F-150's sound

JBL designed their Concert Edition audio upgrade package so you can put high-fidelity, concert-worthy sound inside your Ford F-150 SuperCrew without having to cut a single wire or change anything about your interior's appearance. This upgrade replaces the factory front and rear speakers with high-quality JBL models, and adds two 8-inch JBL subwoofers as well. An 8-channel amplifier with digital signal processing provides your music with the power and tone customized for your F-150's interior.

JBL Concert Edition

The dual 8" enclosure under your rear seat punches out some powerful bass.

Stealthy install

JBL's illustrated instructions clearly show how to "drop in" and plug up the new speakers and wiring harnesses that integrate the Concert Edition upgrade into your vehicle's factory system. The sub enclosure and amplifier assembly fit out of the way under the rear seat, perfectly positioned to provide power and bass for your music.

Note: For the Extended Cab application, the subwoofer will extend beyond the seat by about 2".

Pre-tuned for your Ford's interior space

JBL engineers measured the physical and acoustical properties of the SuperCrew cab's interior and modeled the Concert Edition's sound equalization curves and speaker time alignments so everyone inside will hear premium sound, wherever they sit. All the components — speakers, amp, sub, and wiring harnesses — fit perfectly in position and simply plug into the factory system. The only installation tools required are a 7 mm wrench, a panel tool, and a wire worm or large tie wrap.

Important Notes: This upgrade package will only work with the 2015-up Ford F-150 SuperCrew and Extended Cab trucks with the non-amplified system (4, 6, or 7 speaker systems). It will not work in a F-150 with the premium (Sony) sound system.

Satellite Radio Note: When you install this JBL system in a 2017-up Ford F-150, the factory SiriusXM tuner won't work anymore.

Product Research

Features

Overview: JBL's VSSF150 replaces the front and rear factory speakers, adds two subwoofers in a custom enclosure, adds an amplifier to power the entire system, and includes all the necessary wiring for installation in select 2015-2019 full size Ford Super Crew and SuperCab pickups. (The subwoofer enclosure extends approximately 2" beyond the rear seat in the SuperCab.) Please enter your truck information to confirm fit.

Front Speakers: Two JBL GT7-86 speakers are mounted in custom Ford brackets and have Ford wiring harnesses attached, so they mount without any modification and the factory wiring plugs in.

Rear Speakers: Two JBL GT7-6 speakers are mounted in custom Ford brackets and have Ford wiring harnesses attached, so they mount without any modification and the factory wiring plugs in.

Subwoofer Enclosure: The custom enclosure is loaded with two 8" subwoofers and mounts under the back seat.

Amplifier: The amp is mounted to subwoofer enclosure, thus hidden under the rear seat. Three plugs on the end of the factory integration harness connect directly the amp; no other wiring is needed.

Wiring: Two custom wiring harnesses are included, an 11' power harness and a 17' factory integration harness. The power harness is routed from the battery (in the engine bay) to the center console, where it connects to the factory integration harness. The factory integration harness is routed from the radio location to the JBL amplifier, mounted on the subwoofer enclosure. The factory integration harness has custom plugs on both ends, so no factory wires need to be cut or spliced.

Q
Anyone else get 2 large badges? They are different, one is thicker. Just curious, Im not advertise that I added anything and everybody know. ð???
robert  Aug 30, 2020
1 answer
A
The largest badges are for the lower left and right side, the smallest for the doors where the speakers is located. You don't actually have to paste them to advertise JBL just in case you want to put the original F150 on. Actually the team sounds great so people know you have a good team Without announcing it.

Unfortunately XM radio did not work after the installation. I was hoping that Crutchfield would be able to provide a workaround to enable XM radio, but they weren't able to provide one at the time of my installation (late 2019)..

Yes, Sirius XM still works fine.

I have a non-Sony touch screen 2013 super crew lariat....Will this system fit my application? Thanks, Paul
paul  Jul 07, 2020

A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Does anyone know if you can buy this amp by its self?

I haven't seen it separated before, but why would you? It is a great setup as is at a reasonable price.
hilary  May 13, 2020
A
If you need a replacement part, contact Crutchfield directly. Otherwise, you would have no use for this amp on its own. It is matched with these drivers does a very poor job with the OEM drivers (I tried this. Impedance way off)

Q
Has anyone found a solution for the reconfigured sirius radio. Just installed today in a 2019 XLT and the sirius does not work?
harry  Feb 28, 2020
1 answer
A
Hi Harry, thank you for your question. Unfortunately, when you install this JBL system in a 2017-up Ford F-150 with the factory 7-speaker/8" LCD radio package, the factory SiriusXM tuner will not be retained. If you purchased this item from Crutchfield, and would like to go over this with technical support, feel free to get in touch with us. You will find the contact info to technical support at the bottom of your invoice, or by logging into your Crutchfield account and accessing your order history. We do not know of a workaround solution to retain the SiriusXM feature in your truck.

Q
Has Crutchfield or anyone found a solution yet for this product to work in the 2019 model and retain factory Sirius Radio? In 2019 Ford reconfigured their radio and Sirius module. I have the package installed and waiting for a solution to retain my Sirius. tx

Enter an The wiring harness WILL NOT work with the factory wiring harness in the 2019 model. You can manually splice the speakers and remote start with the existing harness and not impact the other functionality. I don't have the door codes readily available, but they are easy enough to find online. I used the "add-a-circuit" fuse block to circuit 23 I believe (power windows) for the amp remote start (pink wire). Everything works a great.
justin  Feb 12, 2020
A
Hi Charles, thank you for your question. Unfortunately, there doesn't look to be a solution to the loss of the factory XM Satellite radio when this system is installed. Sorry we didn't have better news for you on that.

Q
Hello, is there any way to get any more detailed specifications from the manufacturer? Looking specifically for specs on the subs... handling, mounting depth, and wiring color code. I recently purchased this for my 2018 F-18 and am fairly happy with the sound, but am considering ways to give it some extra boost and need more specs to do so. Thanks!
mathew  Nov 29, 2019
1 answer
A
We have not been able to get that information on this system. We do know that it's a 360 watt system. The speakers combine to handle 210 watts which leads me think the subwoofers can handle 75 watts each. As for the driver depth, I won't have that nor the measurements on the sub box that comes in the system. I just know it's custom shaped to fit under the rear seat in select Ford pickups.
jason  Dec 10, 2019 (Staff)
Q
Does the amp power the sub woofers only or all the speakers powered by the included amp?
glenn  Oct 09, 2019

A
The power amp powers the speakers and subsEnter an answer to this question.
jose  Oct 25, 2019
A
This is a great upgrade! All 4 door speakers are replaced with better speakers that need more power. ALL of these speakers as well as the subs are powered by the amp. The great thing is that all the wiring is included in one bundle, meaning you won't have to run wires to each speaker. Run the wire bundle, plug 1 end into the amp, the other into the stereo, hook up a hot and a ground line and you're finished wiring.
michael  Oct 24, 2019
A
It powers both subs and the 4 coaxial speakers included.

Yes, this fit in my 2017 F250 that also has the power inverter. They share the same cab interior. If you have The under seat storage, you'll have to remove that so this box will fit

I dint installed yet the upgrade, based on your question I will have a look over the reviews, I don't want to generate a problem due the installation but, I don't see any reason for the disconnection related with the Speaks.

david  Jun 02, 2019

The stock center speakers and tweeters continue to work fine. I replaced my center speaker because it was so easy to get to. The system definitely sounds better than stock and doesn't distort at 1/2 volume like the stock speakers did. At $400 it is a steal..

I have a super cab super duty and it will only fit under the seat. Not sure about crew cab, but would assume the same. Also if it would fit behind the seat you would have to find a way to mount it so it would not rattle!

Highly doubtful. It takes up some valuable real estate. But I believe it was worth it.

I had a 2010 F150 before this one and I think maybe the speaker connections might be different. I do not know about the hookups on the radio side. Going from memory here so take it for what it is worth. The system is perfect for me as I wear hearing aids and the music is so much clearer. I think it is worth the trouble to make it work though. I have a 2016 XLT with the factory 4" screen and this works perfectly. The connectors for the sub and amp are made to fit the factory stereo so if you plan to replace the head unit you would need to rewire the connection from the sub.

Q
First question, will this system be compatible in the 2018 f150? Secondly, does the JBL have the same issue with cutting out on start-up like the Kicker Soundstage with the auto stop/start feature? Starting in 2018 almost all f150 engines have this feature.

I own a 2018 Ford F150 XL STX SuperCrew style and I just installed the JBL Cencert Edition. Perfect fitment with all speakers and exact plug n play. Only thing I had to do was manually hook up power wires to battery n splice the power cables together in cab. I would definitely recommend this system to anyone. Sounds great and the bass is just enough. FYI, this is for factory head unit. Mines 8"

I have a 2017 F150 with the stop-start feature (3.5 EcoBoost). The stop/start has no effect on this system; it stays on throughout the cycle. I have no idea about 2018 fitment.
