Features

Overview: The Kenwood Excelon P-XW804B is a loaded subwoofer enclosure with an 8" XR-series oversized driver. This compact, ported enclosure will fit into many vehicles, even where space is at a premium. Included with the subwoofer are two metal L-brackets and hardware for mounting it into your vehicle.

Driver: The P-XW804B contains a single 4-ohm XR-W804 8" driver. The speaker has an oversized cone to give you better low frequency output. Ribs on the underside of the cone add strength to keep it from flexing during excursion, minimizing distortion. The motor structure features a strong magnetic circuit and a reinforced yoke for extra durability.

Enclosure: The subwoofer enclosure is made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) covered in black carpet. The white and red Kenwood Excelon logo is stitched into the top panel. It has a rectangular shape with a recessed front baffle which allows you to mount the sub vertically or horizontally, either up-firing or down-firing. The enclosure has a 4" x 1" slot port on the left side. The round terminal cup is also located on the left side with spring post terminals that will accept bare wire, pin connectors, and single or dual banana plugs.

Customer Q&A

Q
We just installed a Kenwood DMX7709S in my son's 2010 Impala. We also replaced the factory door and rear speakers with Kenwood Excelon speakers. The bass is a little underwhelming, but am pretty pleased otherwise. I'm not looking to rattle the windows, but wondered how well the Kenwood Excelon P-XW804B might finish off this upgrade. It seems very reasonable. Also, would I need a harness or just speaker wire to make this work? Thanks in advance.

A
Adding a subwoofer is always a great way to get the most performance out of your stereo system, Steve. To add the Kenwood Excelon P-XW804B you would also need to add a small amp, amp wiring kit, RCA's, and speaker wire for connection. The Kenwood X502 amp in the first link is a perfect match wattage-wise, and the EFX wiring kit in the second link below has everything you need to connect for power directly to your battery. Add a few feet of 12-gauge speaker wire from the third link and you have everything you need for install and connection to your Kenwood radio. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113X5021/Kenwood-Excelon-X502-1.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_142PA8BX/EFX-PA8BX-Wiring-Kit.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007CSW12/Crutchfield-Speaker-Wire-12-gauge.html

Q
Can two of these (4ohm) be wired to work with an XR601-1 (2 ohm)???
brian  Nov 27, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Brian. Thank you for your question. The XR601-1 has speaker outputs for two subs. The impedance will change in the amp when both 4 ohm subs are connected, to a 2 ohm load.

Q
What amp will work with this and door speakers that are also 300watt or would I need two amps?
sticky  May 07, 2023

A
Depending on your personal preference and performance goals Steven, you can choose a one-amp or two-amp solution. The Kenwood Excelon X802-5 in the first link below is a 5-channel single-amp solution. This delivers exactly 300-watts at 4-ohms to the subwoofer and 50-watts RMS per channel for your mids and hi's. You can go with two amps, but if you want to save space a single 5-channel is a great choice! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113X8025/Kenwood-Excelon-X802-5.html

Q
what would be a good amp for two Kenwood Excelon P-XW804B's?

A
Jake, I do not want to give bad advice. Ask the Crutchfield experts. Good luck, and happy new year.

Q
Was curious what would be a good amp for 2 of these hooked up to? (New to this sorry if this is an obvious question) (with 12 gauge wire)
jake  Dec 28, 2020

A
My amp is a 800 watt 2 channel. With 8 gauage wire. Any amp with 800 watt and up should be good.
jayson  Dec 30, 2020

Jake, I drove this with a Boss PV3700 five channel amp in a 2002 Chevy Extended Cab. Both fit comfortably under the back seat. I also have Kenwood 2 way speakers in the front door and Kicker in the back door. This is the best setup I have ever had. It has survived Allman Brothers "Come on into my kitchen" at full throttle. Crutchfield will work it out for you. None better!

Perfect match Kenwood Excelon X502-1 https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113X5021/Kenwood-Excelon-X502-1.html?tp=115 Another option MTX THUNDER500.1 https://www.crutchfield.com/p_236THND5K1/MTX-THUNDER500-1.html?tp=115 You're running a 4 ohm load. Need a power rating of 300 Wrms give or take about 10%

Will this sub fit under the seat of a 2012 Ford F-150 crew cab?

A
It fits under the back seat of my 2018 Silverado 1500 crew cab. It's about 12" in height.
kyle  Sep 07, 2020
A
It should as long as you have the super crew back seat.
juan  Sep 03, 2020
A
Yes it's not big at all depends on the size under your seat thought it's like the size 2 ps4 width wise
marcus  Aug 31, 2020
A
Yus, The enclosure will fit under. If you have weathertech floor mats you might need to modify a little. Although its always recommended to use tge vehicles specific built box as you will have a true form and fit resulting in a amazing bass response.

Q
Can this be mounted up-firing, underneath, and attached to the rear deck/package shelf in my Toyota Avalon?

This is a small sub so if you have skills to be able to do custom install, this may work.

I mounted mine vertically on the back wall of the trunk and have it firing through the center armrest console on my Bimmer. In my opinion you can mount it "upside down" with the speaker firing upwards. Good luck with your build.

I have one and I would guess it could. The port is on the side. I am by no means an engineer, but I believe that port is where most of the sound comes from. I have turned the box to make the port face different directions in my Toyota Highlander. That does change the sound a bit.
