And you can still make wired connections to an external component via the stereo RCA input on the back of the left-hand speaker, or connect your computer to the USB port. There's also an RCA output for connecting a powered subwoofer like the Audioengine S8.

Perfect power

Dual 15-watt amplifiers built into the left speaker provide all the power these speakers need to sound their best. They're matched to each speaker's 2-3/4" Aramid fiber woofer and 3/4" silk dome tweeter, so you don't have to make room for a receiver or amplifier in your entertainment space.

Improved sound from digital files

When you connect a device to the USB port, you're also getting the benefit of the speaker's built-in DAC (digital to analog converter). It lets you bypass your computer's sound card for better performance from digital music files.

Features

Two-Way Speaker System: Each of the Audioengine A2+ Wireless speakers has two drivers; a 3/4" silk dome tweeter & a 2.75" Kevlar woofer. The A2+ Wireless provides a real, natural sound; very near to the originally-recorded music. The A2+ Wireless has a frequency response of 65Hz to 22,000Hz (+/-2dB)

  • Silk Dome Tweeters: Audioengine uses audiophile-quality, ferro-fluid cooled silk dome tweeters with neodymium magnets. Silk tweeters hold up well under high power & the edge-driven design gives very smooth response.
  • Kevlar Woofers: The woofers are made of Kevlar woven glass aramid composite with rubber surrounds. Kevlar is very strong, which means that the woofer retains its shape when being driven at high levels.

Built-in Amplifier: The A2+ Wireless is powered by a 15-watt RMS x 2ch amplifier (SNR: >95dB, THD: <0.05%), built into the left speaker. The built-in power amplifier saves space & eliminates the need to connect Audioengine A2+ Wireless to a stereo receiver or external power amp. Simply plug the left speaker into an AC outlet & connect the included 6.5' speaker wire from the left speaker's binding-post terminal to right speaker's binding post terminals. All internal components of the 2+ are tuned together, providing a more efficient system requiring less power than passive speakers & amplifiers.

Note: With the amplifier built-in, the left speaker is heavier than the right (4 lbs vs. 3 lbs).

Bass Reflex MDF Cabinet: One of the reasons the Audioengine A2+ Wireless has such great bass response for a compact speaker is its slot-ported cabinet. Each cabinet features a front-firing slot-port that has been specifically tuned for accurate bass down to 65Hz. The result is incredible low end with minimal audible air turbulence, so you can use the Audioengine A2+ Wireless speakers with or without a separate subwoofer. The cabinets are built using 18mm MDF with internal bracing. Internal sound-damping material reduces unwanted reflections inside the cabinet. The cabinet edges are rounded to reduce high-frequency diffraction effects on the front baffles. The speakers are hand finished, then tuned and tested together to be sold in matching pairs.

Note: No grilles are included.

16-Bit/48kHz DAC: The Audioengine A2+ Wireless speakers utilize a 16-Bit/48kHz Burr Brown DAC (digital-to-analog converter) from Texas Instruments (TI) for exceptional sound quality when listening to Bluetooth wireless audio or your computer's USB audio.

Note: Bluetooth and microUSB share the internal DAC, so you can only listen to one at a time, and Bluetooth takes priority. If you're using microUSB for example, and start using Bluetooth, microUSB will mute and Bluetooth will take over. Depending on your source, if you pause or disconnect from Bluetooth the speakers may automatically switch back to microUSB after a few seconds.

Bluetooth Audio Streaming: The Audioengine A2+ Wireless speakers are equipped with built-in Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless audio streaming (A2DP) from your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, tablet, desktop computer, or laptop. You'll be able to wirelessly stream stored music, music apps, and other audio content from your Bluetooth source device to the A2+ Wireless speakers. In addition to Bluetooth's standard SBC codec, the A2+ Wireless supports AAC for higher quality sound from Apple iOS devices and aptX for "CD-like" (16-bit/48kHz) sound from many Android and Mac devices. The Audioengine A2+ Wireless speaker system has a wireless Bluetooth range up to 100' and a delay of approximately 30ms (milliseconds).

microUSB Port: The Audioengine A2+ Wireless is outfitted with a microUSB port for connection to your Windows PC or Mac computer. You'll be able to playback your laptop or desktop computer's music library through the A2+ Wireless speakers. The microUSB port bypasses the the DAC in your computer and utilizes the A2+ Wireless speaker's 16-bit/48kHz DAC to producce high-quality sound. No separate USB drivers are need for Windows or Mac.

Note: The microUSB port does not support playback from Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphones/tablets, or USB MSC (mass storage class) devices.

Analog Audio Inputs: The A2+ Wireless has two stereo audio inputs on the rear-panel of left speaker. The A2+ Wireless is fitted with a 3.5mm stereo minijack input & a stereo RCA input. There is no input selector switch, so both inputs are live simultaneously; if different signals are presented to both inputs, they are mixed together & both are played through the speakers.

Note: The analog inputs on the A2+ Wireless are always active. They will play at the same time as the Bluetooth or USB input.

Variable Audio Output: The Audioengine A2+ Wireless includes a variable stereo preamp audio output so you can connect a powered subwoofer (such as the Audioengine S8; sold separately), other Audioengine powered speakers, or an Audioengine wireless adapter (772W3; sold separately) to daisy-chaining music to other systems around the house. This output is variable (adjustable) so the volume level can be controlled from the A2+ Wireless speaker system.

Mounting Options:  Both speakers have a high-density foam isolation pad on the bottom for safe placement on your desk, stand, table, or shelf. The optional DS1 Desktop Stands (772DS1, sold separately), made of high-performance silicone rubber, angle the A2+ Wireless speakers upward at approximately 15° and add 1-3/4" the the height (for 8" total). Audioengine recommends placing the speakers at least 3" from the back wall for best audio performance.

Note: Both drivers (woofer & tweeter) are directly video shielded & allow you to place the speakers within a few inches of a video monitor. This shielding also offers protection for hard-drive digital music players.

External AC Power Supply: The Audioengine A2+ Wireless operates off of standard household current using the included AC power adapter and detachable power cord. The AC power adapter plugs into the left powered speaker and the included speaker wire is used to connect the right passive speaker. An auto-standby idle mode is also featured to conserve power when you're not playing music.

Q
Can these be used without physically touching them? I need to mount them up high. So can't push a button to turn on, change volume, or enable bluetooth pairing. Is it fully controllable remotely?
franklin a  Jul 13, 2023
1 answer
A
These are not intended to be wall-mounted or used from a distance. A remote is not available, and Bluetooth will not allow you to take full control of the speakers. Please reach out to our advisors for help with selecting speakers for your application. You may reach us via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

Q
How do these connect to a powered subwoofer? I see that there are two rca outs, but my subwoofer only has a single composite in.
stephen  Jun 16, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Stephen, and thank you for your question. A single subwoofer out will have the combined left and right channels in that single output. If your subwoofer has just the single RCA jack, we would combine the left and right out of the A2+ with an RCA Y splitter. Our item number 703F22M. After that adapter, any mono subwoofer cable will work.

Q
Would you recommend these for TV audio upgrade over a sound bar? Looking for something to sit on built in shelves next to TV vice mounted soundbar. Distance from TV when sitting is 10-15ft (65in)

A
That's exactly what I use them for.
david  Mar 19, 2020
A
The A2's are excellent when used as a desktop at very close distances. If you are looking for an alternative to sound bar my vote would be to jump to the HD6 complimented with the Audio Engine subwoofer. I was looking to upgrade my old 5.1 system and after having excellent experience with the A2+ for my office I went the HD6/Sub route and couldn't be more pleased.
derek  Mar 19, 2020
A
I don't know. I purchased these as a gift for someone else.
richard l  Mar 19, 2020
A
Yes. The speakers image well, that is, the center is clear. In addition, they do a capable job of extending the sound left and right. Depending on how wide apart the speaker might be placed, you may wish to "toe in" them in a bit toward you. If you can manage it, I would recommend a small powered sub for this application.

Can I add a powered subwoofer?

Yes. Use Pre-Out 1 or 2 on the back of the receiver for the subwoofer cable.

Q
Do you guys sale a replacement power wire for the audioengine a2+ speakers?
jose  Mar 22, 2019
1 answer
A
No we don't sell the power cord as a stand-alone accessory. That would be something you would likely have to get directly from Audioengine. You can reach them at 877-853-4447.

Can these be paired to An Amazon Echo Dot?
randy  Sep 05, 2021

Yes. Use the Echo Dot app to assist you in pairing the speakers wirelessly. After the initial setup, you should simply be able to ask Alexa to pair the speakers in the future.

Yes these speakers will accept a blue tooth connection
john  Aug 30, 2021
A
Yes you can. Just go to the Bluetooth setting on your phone when you are close to the speakers and your phone will identify the speakers automatically. Then just click on them and you are good to go.
tilo  Aug 30, 2021

Just so happens I have an Iphone also, and yes you can play music from your Iphone through the Audioengine A2+ speakers using your phones bluetooth. You will have to go to settings in your phone and then go to bluetooth. hit the pair button on the main speaker or (right speaker) and then hit the search for bluetooth devices on your phone and the speakers will come up and you can then connect to them and enjoy the sound from the speakers themselves. I hope this helps Enjoy

roger  Aug 30, 2021

rachid  Aug 29, 2021
A
Yes, my wife's iPhone connects flawlessly from her iPhone 12 mini. Also her previous iPhone 10s. I believe any Bluetooth enabled device will connect to it.

Q
6.5 feet isn't very far apart. Will these speakers support a 15 foot connection for rear channel use?
bruce  Dec 04, 2022
1 answer
A
These speakers are primarily designed for use with a desktop computer where 6.5' of wire would usually be longer than needed. It is possible to use a longer speaker wire between the two speakers, but longer wire could cause the passive speaker to be quieter than the powered speaker.
zachary  Dec 04, 2022 (Staff)
Q
Thinking of using these as computer speakers. Currently a laptop plugged to a larger curved display. How's the user experience with these? Does the system stay on, and when computer wakes from sleep, would it automatically reconnect?
areg  Oct 26, 2022
1 answer
A
That's correct Areg. An auto-standby idle mode is also featured to conserve power when you're not playing music. I'd advise using the microUSB to connect to your computer directly using the DAC onboard the sweet Audioengine A2+, but you could also use the Bluetooth if that is your preference.
