Crutchfield home audio and photography expert

I've spent a lifetime learning about tech through many paradigm shifts, so you don't have to.

A little about me

I made my first journey through Crutchfield back in 2011, starting in July of that year, about 12 days before a more-than-minor earthquake hit Virginia that emptied out the headquarters staff-at-large onto the surrounding Crutchfield campus for a couple of hours. Coincidence? Who can say. Now, after another 10-year diversion into live-event television production, I'm back to learn and explain a little more about technology's cutting edge for those with a desire to add some more "cool" to their lives.

I've written about home stereo and home theater components, the occasional set of speakers, home security, and a handful of other categories, but you've probably seen me writing about cameras more than anything else. I grew up in Tokyo, Japan as a teenager, so camera culture was all around me. I haunted the camera stores in Shinjuku at least a couple of times a month after school.

Speaking of cameras, I've spent almost 40 years in the broadcast and video production industry, so explaining heavy tech to an audience that is eager to learn more comes easily to me. First, you use your eyes, ears, and hands to really get inside the experience of enjoying a piece of gear. You have to understand exactly what makes it special and unique. And then, you need to explain it with enthusiasm, as you would to someone you've known for a while, in clear, friendly, and accessible language. I love that. I like discovering new gear, I like talking about it, and I like seeing it make people's lives easier and more interesting.
