Don't buy

Written By Foster, Columbus, Ohio on Monday, July 06, 2009

I called Tsunami to let them know that mine wasn't holding power correctly and tech support told me that "Capacitors do not hold power" What?!?! I took mine apart to see what was wrong with it and 4 of the 6 small capacitors where toasted and the bigger capacitor that was in there was about the size of a Red Bull can! No way this is a true 5 farads. I contacted Tsunami after I took it apart to see if they would send me the replacement smaller caps and they said the best they could do was sell me another one.. Don't Buy!!

Sweet Cap, you can really tell the difference in the bass, I had doubts. But they all went away once I hooked it up. Also it fixes the dimming of the headlights when the bass hits. Love the set up of the cap, all the blue lights are a great touch too. I recommend this cap to people who want a great cap. It also makes the system look nice.

Great cap

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I own a 2002 vw gti vr6. I just had a brand new stereo system installed in my car. I replaced all the factory monsoon components that came in my car. I had installed new speakers in the front and rear of my car. I was told by the local audio shop that I would need new speakers because of how much bass I was installing. Which I installed two Boston acoustics g512 4 ohm subs. I bought the subs from crutchfield, as well as this cap, and the wiring kit. All I wanted was to keep my lights from dimming when I had the stereo cranked. I came from a honda civic, with no cap, that did it constantly. I bought this cap and it completely keeps my lights from dimming. I am running a alpine m1000 driving my two subs, and when it is cranked, the lights don't even dim a little. I would totally recommend this cap for any system, running a lot of power.

great cap keeps my alpine mrp-m1000 amp and two RF stage 3 dual 2 ohm
subs in cheak and keeps the car battery from dying lights dim a little but
you have to pay attention to notice it. the only problem i have with this cap
is it takes a while for the lights to turn off. by the way nice touch like how it
goes with the beat.

5.0 Farad Capacitor

Written By Mr. Psotta, Denver, CO on Wednesday, October 01, 2008

This product is very cool and does everything I asked it to. It takes the load off my battery as I have (2) 10" Rockford Fosgates with an amp and (4) Boston Acoustic ProSE60 speakers with a beefy Alpine amp powering them. In addition, the capacitor has blue LED lights that flicker like the cash cab haha. Very nice touch though, expecially a night with all my seats down its like light show. I highly recommend this product!

I just got this capacitor in the mail today and I love it. This replaced a 1 farad capacitor that I had before. I have a jl audio 1000/1 mono amp and a 12w7, this cap makes my system sound fuller and I like the blue flashing lights. thanks Crutchfield.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love this capacitor. The 10 farad is just what i needed to keep my 1990 mercury from dying on me with my 4000 watt amplifier and my four 15's. Delivers the right amount of power to my amp and the other components of my car including the alternator. FAR EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS

Great Product!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently got this capacitor because i wanted to make sure i had enough juice to keep everything in order i got this cap for my two RF Punch Stage 2 12's it works like a charm never dimmed my lights or anything and quite it could probably take allot more power ive had my subs at full blast and it has yet to reach its full potential this is a 18 watt at 24 volts cap and i think the most ive got to was like 16 lol but anyway if your looking for a good cap and you got the money GO FOR THIS!

Great Product

This cap is great; got it because my lights were dimming when I had two 12s going at full blast. Simple Installation. Did it in half an hour. Neon lights are a nice touch.

Product Research

Overview: The overall response of your audio system will be enhanced with the use of capacitors due to their ability to store a large amount of current and discharge it quickly to supplement your amplifier's power supply during high current demand (bass note). The Tsunami capacitor is a logical addition to your system due to the fact that automotive batteries aren't designed to deliver the current to satisfy the requirements of high powered audio components. It can also filter AC voltage induced in the system by the amplifier's power supply which could cause objectionable noise. One Farad of capacitance is recommended for each 500 watts of amplifier power, but you can never have too much capacitance for any system.

Display: There is a digital charge level indicator display. The digital display shows your precise voltage in 0.1 volt steps.

Neon Ring: Once the capacitor is charged, the blue neon ring around the terminals lights up.

Backlit Logo: The Tsunami logo along the front of the capacitor is backlit in blue.

LEDs: There are two rows of seven blue chase LEDs that pulse with the charge/discharge cycles.

Audible Voltage Warning: If the voltage drops below 10 volts or rises above 17.5 volts the capacitor emits an audible alarm.

Sleep Mode: After a few minutes without any load (with the amp off) the capacitor enters a sleep mode; all the lights turn off to avoid discharging the cap, and subsequently the car's battery.

Installation: On the top of the capacitor on the right side are two positive terminals. These terminals are shorted together, so they are interchangeable, one is connected to the battery (and fused at the battery), the other to the positive input on the amp. On the top of the capacitor on the left side are two negative terminals. These terminals are shorted together, so they are interchangeable, either one can be grounded to the car's chassis. Both the positive and negative are set screw terminals, each is sized for a 2 gauge wire but shipped with an insert installed sized for a 4 gauge wire. Before the battery is connected you must charge the capacitor with the included light bulb.

  • Capacitance: 10 Farad
  • Maximum Operating DC Voltage: 18 volt/24 volt surge
  • ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance): < 0.002 ohm
