Our take on the Rockford Fosgate CP4DCKS

Rockford Fosgate's Connecting Punch CP4DCKS 4-gauge power and interconnect wiring kit gives you everything you need to connect power and signal to two amplifiers and your speakers. It's designed for systems with a fuse rating (all amps combined) of up to 60 amps. Features

General Overview: This is a dual amplifier wiring kit that includes 4-gauge and 8-gauge power and ground cables, two patch cables, a turn-on lead, power distribution blocks and accessories required to install two amplifiers.

Power High Performance Series Power/Ground Cable: The 4-gauge power and ground cable feature 1862 strands of braided copper wire. The 8-gauge power and ground cable feature 735 strands of braided copper wire. The power wires have clear jackets and the ground wires have translucent black jackets.

In-line Fuse Holder: The included in-line fuse holder attached to the power cable comes with a 60A platinum-plated MAXI fuse. The fuse holder has a slot on the side where you insert the MAXI fuse. You must first remove the RF logo badge on top of the fuse holder. This allows you to loosen the set screws that hold the fuse in place. Once the screws are loose, you can insert the MAXI fuse. After tightening the screws, you can replace the logo badge. The fuse holder has an integrated base with two holes, which allow you to mount the fuse holder. The fuse holder has the following dimensions: L=3.374", W=1.991" (2.103" with the MAXI fuse installed), H=1.198".

Power Distribution: The wiring kit includes a platinum-plated fused two-position power distribution block and a non-fused distribution block. The fused distribution block allows you to input the 4-gauge power wire on one end, and output two 8-gauge power wires on the other end. Two platinum-plated 30-amp AGU fuses are supplied. (Note: The fuses should match the fuse rating of the connected amplifier) The supplied 4mm Allen wrench can be used to tighten the set screws on the distribution block for secure wire connections. The non-fused distribution block allows you to connect the 8-gauge ground wire from each of the two amplifiers and the 4-gauge ground wire leading to the amplifier grounding point.

Interconnect Cable: The supplied RF Stealth interconnect cables feature twisted-pair conductors in a side-by-side configuration. Each features a translucent clear jacket with translucent red and black conductors, molded connectors (right-angle RCA connectors on one end), and gold-plated tips.

Speaker Wire: The supplied speaker wire is RF Standard 16-gauge high definition speaker cable made from oxygen-free copper. The cable is made with 65 strands with a Super Twist design. It has a clear jacket, and it's designed for sonic accuracy.

Complete waste of money...even at half price

Written By Wes, Columbia, SC on Saturday, October 13, 2007

If you have absolutely no interest in getting the very best output from your amps, then this kit is for you. Otherwise.....forget it!

RCA's generate a LOT of interference, and you only get 2 sets when 3 are generally needed for 2 amp setups. The 4 gauge wiring is fine, but the 8 gauge coming off the blocks don't have enough flow to power the amps adequately. I won't even go into the cheapness of the blocks themselves. If you're running low power amps, then I guess it wouldn't be a problem, but why take the chance.

I wound up changing out just about everything that came with this kit to get the kind of production I knew my amps, and speakers, could deliver....and now they do. The ONLY thing I'm still using from this entire kit is the 4 gauge wire, and I'll probably wind up changing that out just to see how low quality that is.

That being said, Crutchfield is great to do business with. I had a problem with my head unit and they shipped me out another one immediately, allowing me to keep the original unit (working, just not fully functional) until I had the replacement in hand.

You just don't see that kind of service anymore

Marginal

Written By Wil, Orlando, FL on Sunday, July 15, 2007

Overall quality is great. This is my first amp install and I was dissapointed that the kit did not include instructions or somthing to identify the parts, I am pretty navie. My biggest disapointment was the fuse and mounting system under the hood. Within a week the fuse has come loose twice causing my amps to go into protect mode. It is difficult for me to secure the fuse properly. Other than that there is ample material to complete the install.

Not enough cable for a minivan.

Written By hourglass, Baltimore, MD on Friday, June 22, 2007

Im impressed with the quality of the components in this kit - tho it lacks a few necessary allen wrenches.

I have an extended minivan. It was all I could do to route the 4-gauge power wire to the back of the van. I ended up running it down a frame member and up into the cubby where the jack is stored. That pretty much dictated where the B+ splitter was going to be installed... I then had to use all of the 8-gauge B+ wire to get to my first amp, which meant I had to run out and get some extra 8-gauge cable. Luckily, I also measured out my speaker runs and found that the included speaker cable was BARELY enough to make it to both front speakers. So I got another 20 of speaker cable, too. The RCA interconnect cables were BARELY long enough to reach the amps. Rockford Fosgate would really do their customers a favor to add another foot or two to each of the cables in this kit and maybe double the amount of speaker wire. Or maybe they think everybody out there has a civic.

With both amps wired up and powered, I had no problems at all. When I checked fade and balance on my head unit all my wiring proved correct - a testament that everything in this kit is very well marked. I had music where its supposed to be and in between songs - even with the volume cranked - its quiet. No whine, buzz, or hum.

Keep in mind, folks, do not use the thin clear wire on the RCA cables to run your turn-on lead. Doing so is asking for noise. Run a separate line (which is included in the kit!!) down the other side

Good kit

Written By Ben, Pittsburgh, PA on Tuesday, June 12, 2007

This kit has pretty much everything you need to wire up 2 amps in your car. The main power cable is plenty long enough and is pretty flexible. The distribution blocks are very nice and easy to install. The reason I only gave it 4 stars is because as other people say the RCA Patch cables do pick up a lot of interference. I had them ran on the opposite side of the car from the power and remote turn on lead and they still picked up some alternator wine. I took them out and ran Street Wise Zero Noise patch cables and the noise went away. If you plan on buying this kit do yourself a favor and invest in a better pair of RCA patch cables.

It works, but I'd only recommend it for beginners.

Written By Luke, Chandler, AZ on Tuesday, March 27, 2007

The first time I installed a multi-amp setup, I used this kit. I think it works fine as a starter kit. I think if I had picked out individual components to put together a wiring setup, I probably would've forgotten something.

But after using it for awhile, I would probably pick out all of the components I want separately if I were to do it again. I'm running about 70amps of current through it right now and the fuse holder near the battery is partially melted at one of the terminals. The RCA patch cables are almost useless. They pick up huge amounts of interference. The alternator whine I pick up is unbearable sometimes. The plastic heads on the connectors are huge; the female ends on the back of my radio are tightly spaced so I actually had to whittle down the connectors so it would fit. The length of everything is just barely adequate for my Camry. If I wanted to install the amps in the rear of my trunk, I couldn't do it with this kit. It's just not long enough.

Good, but for the price could be better

Written By mailman, Baltimore, MD on Sunday, January 08, 2006

This kit has everything you need for a very professional and clean looking installation. I am using it to power two amps and the distro blocks for power and ground are a god send. The speaker wires and the power/ground wires are plentiful and the wire gauge is also perfect. I wired four channels with this kit with the drivers side channel coming across then down the car. In a nutshell:

The pros:
1. Tons of wiring, more than you'll ever need;
2. Power / ground wiring very sufficient;
3. Distro blocks look great;
4. Aux remote wire was a great idea, and
5. Plenty of extra cables, terminals, etc.

The cons:
1. RCA wires look cool but they stink. Pick up tons of interference and had to spend lots of time regrounding radio to eliminate noise;
2. Zip ties are fragile and break easily. of the 15 or so that i got, only 4 or 5 werent broken;
3. No spade terminals, only ring terminals;
4. No screws for distro blocks to be mounted - must use your own;
5. No instructions (not really complex, but it would be nice to know how the intended the 60 amp fuse to go in, and
6. One size hex wrench. The blocks and screws they give you have a different hex sizes and they give you one (size) hex wrench. If your going to include a wrench, include 2 or 3 so they all work.

Overall, not bad but expect a little more for the price.

Very good Quality

Written By Steve, San Jose, CA on Tuesday, November 01, 2005

I purchased this to power my two amps and it came with everything I needed and more. The cables are extremely high quality and my favorite part is the remote wires attached BETWEEN the RCA's, so you only have to run one line from the head to the amp. No need to run a seperate remote wire anymore!

I also liked the abundance of fuses and the grounding distribution block is very handy.

To the gentleman who complained about the quality of the fuses, they work excellent and like many things in life, if they break, they're a cheap fix. Mine have held up very well for my setup and I'm very happy!

Decent Kit

Written By Mike, Ca on Monday, May 09, 2005

Ok first thing I would have to say the 2 30A fuses included with the distro block are crappy and low rated wattage wise also. I would definetly recommend going out and buying better name brand fuses probally need slightly higher rated too I settled with 2 60A cost like 10 bucks. The 60A amp maxi fuse for the battery end so far as run like a champ and is good quality. I ended up with the perfect amount of 4 gauage to get all the way to my trunk but ran out and needed to buy some more to run from the distro block to my 2 amps. So you probally want to buy a little more 8 gauge wire. I would also recommened buying a few feet of 12 gauge speaker wire just for the subs.

Rockford Fosgate Dual-amp wiring kit

Written By Jeff, St. Paul, MN on Saturday, February 05, 2005

Rockford Fosgate quality is very evident in this wiring kit! A must-have for anyone with two amplifiers. The distribution blocks exhibit top-quality materials and look just plain cool. Every cable included (RCA,power,ground,turn-on,speaker) is more than enough length for just about any car. Rockford includes an extensive line-up of everything but the kitchen sink to get your dual-amp setup running in no time. The RCA's seem to have pretty good sound although I doubt if there is a noticible difference between brands or price. If one of your amplifiers is powering a sub you should buy larger speaker wire for that though. It only comes with 16-gauge. Overall one of the better products out there.
