Your new micro-system.

I created a room in my home where I could shut out everything, melt into a couch, and re-visit selections from my cd collection. The most important part was the system. It had to be small but powerful... and crystal clear at any volume. After a lot of research...I decided on this one. I couldn't be happier. At first sight, it's hard to believe something this small could perform to my standards. Then I picked it up. Quality is heavy. Whether for your office... or den of iniquity... this is your system. Enjoy.

Weak high end

Steve from Oregon on 6/1/2025

Had this for about 7 years now but never liked the high end. Plenty of bass, just weak on the highs. Plus the volume control on the remote does not work anymore. Hasn't been used that much either. I'll soon upgrade to an Onkyo and a pair of Klipsch for about the same cost.

My brother in law got a $10,000 sound system, but I wanted to spend less than $1,000. The quality of sound is on this Denon is very good even at higher volume levels. I won't get a subwoofer, because we prefer the clarity of higher ranges and less base. Connected the Denon DP-29F to play 50 year old vinyl records and they sound great too.

It started making a loud noise. Sent in for warranty work (only had one choice of this). This place never let me know what was going on. Finally someone said they cant repair it as is and I will get a replacement. This was over two months ago and I keep getting the run around. I was even told that I may get a different refurbished system as this one is no longer in the inventory!!! Yet here I am with NO stereo, NO idea if and when I will get one! OR what I am getting?!?! Denon company is sub par to say the least. Now I can't even get a reply from emailing. Support by phone is useless. How is any of this legit?? Glad I spent so much money on this.

Pros: Lasted a couple of months

BY FAR, I'LL BE USING THIS PRODUCT FOR CD MUSIC LISTENING. FOR THE PRICE, THE QUALITY OF SOUND IS EXCELLENT. SIZE AND WEIGHT OF THE 3 PHYSICAL UNITS IS JUST RIGHT FOR MOVING THEM ABOUT THE HOUSE TO EXPAND THE GOOD LISTENING AREA AND FOR DIFFERENT LISTENING LOCATIONS. THE AVAILABILITY OF SDB, ETC, TONE ADJUSTMENTS IS A VERY BIG POSITIVE. I'VE USED THIS NEW PRODUCT FOR ONLY AN HOUR OR SO, BUT I AM VERY, VERY HAPPY WITH THE SOUND AND LOGISTICS. I HAVE ONE SMALL GRIPE ABOUT THE VISUAL DISPLAY. IN MIDDLING OR MORE INTENSE AMBIENT LIGHT, IT IS DIFFICULT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO READ THE DISPLAY BECAUSE THE DISPLAY LIGHT IS TOO DIM EVEN AT MAXIMUM SETTING. THAT DEFINITELY NEEDS A DESIGN BOOST. SUMMARY: I'M SUPER-GLAD I BOUGHT THIS THING. IT'S GOING TO CONTRIBUTE A LOT OF JOY TO MY DAYS.

Denon D-M41's

Ronald from Rockville, MD on 12/19/2023

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Both of the two Denon D- M41 radio/CD player music systems were purchased as gifts. Thus, I am unable to rate the sound quality of this product and that is why I gave them only four stars and not five. However, as advertised, their specifications are far superior to the Bose Wave radio/CD player that I was first interested in purchasing. The Bose system is NO longer available, and thus I searched the internet for something comparable. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Denon still makes a radio/CD player music system. It comes with two external speakers and can be enhanced with an additional external bass speaker. As far as Crutchfield is concerned, their customer service is perhaps the "best" of any consumer electronics retailer in the country. I recommend without any hesitation Denon electronics and Crutchfield.

Pros: Denon electronic product and Crutchfield is the consumer electronic retailer.

Cons: Given as gifts and NOT for me (boo-hoo).

Excellent fit for my goal

John from NEWPORT NEWS, VA on 8/30/2023

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

I have music on (FM station) 24/7 and have used several setups to accomplish this over the past 37 years, to include Alexa and Siri. But, I don't like what happens to streaming local radio stations in those modes. They tend to bump some/all local ads to inject their own and there are distasteful issues with that. This little system allows me to play CDs, which is my only mode of buying music, stream SXM from my phone as well as listed to my local radio stations. I agree, the price is not insignificant. But, I have found the system to fit my situation and after over a year, this little unit continues to make me smile.

Pros: Tiny, powerful, good sound as is, perfect amount of features.

Cons: One small thing; up/down and plus/minus buttons used exactly opposite as every one of my other remotes. It's not a real issue day-to-day.

I just got this and have not even had time to use all the features. I've only used the cd function - the sound is clear and plenty loud enough to hear throughout the house. Compact design fits and looks good in my tiny home. It was easy to figure out how to use the random & repeat features. Sound is good and is plenty loud enough. It may be a 5 star product but because I have not had time to use all the features I'm giving it a 4 star rating.

Pros: small footprint

Cons: didn't fit where I wanted to place it - this was my error -not Crutchfields.

Mary from Westminster, CO on 8/6/2023

Verified employee review (What's this?)

I bought this system for my home office. It is perfect - compact, but with a good sound. The FM reception is very good (I don't listen to AM, so I didn't bother with the AM antenna). The setup was pretty easy, but the speaker cables could have been longer and limited where I could put the speakers. Programming the presets was a little challenging, but I managed it after accidently using auto preset and clearing out what I'd done. I'm quite pleased with this purchase.

Pros: Good sound quality, easy set up, compact.

Cons: The owner's manual is on a CD and is 74 pages long. It really isn't that complex a system.

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Got my M41 today and it won't even power up (I checked everything, cord continuity, etc.). Frustrating ... another return (I returned an N10 because wifi set up was impossible). This, M41 was a replacement thus for my previous 4 year old one that was having issues (the CD player) and I assumed it was better to replace it than try and find someone to fix it. Now I am TOTALLY frustrated. The M41 is a good Receiver/CD Player - but you expect it to work out of the box. Crap. I will call Crutchfield in the morning - ANOTHER long trek to UPS :( I've had it.

Pros: My previous M41 was a good Receiver/CD Player ... sound, simplicity

Cons: This one doesn't even turn on.

Great bookshelf stereo

Scott from Mckinleyville, CA on 3/28/2023

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

This stereo is perfect for a small office or other small room. The reciever delivers clean sounds and despite its small size delivers enough power to the speakers to impress me. The build feels solid and I like the precision with the volume knob. The sound is crisp at low and high volumes. The speakers are solid on their own, but as my Crutchfield advisor indicated, a subwoofer would compliment this stereo nicely. The Bluetooth works perfectly and I will be adding a streamer through one of two optical inputs. The stereo is limited in power and features dur to its small size and simplicity (which I like), but overall I would give this stereo an A+ for its price point, functionality, and sound quality.

Pros: compact package good, clear sound quality for price point allows for subwoofer hookup 2 optical cables and 1 rca input allows for streamer or other device hookfup

Cons: small package delivers less power and fewer hookup options (e.g., only 1 set of bookshelf speakers can be used)

Enjoying the Denon D-M41. They could have put a HDMI in for ease and quality of TV signal. I'm over 65 so all technology sucks. We weren't raised with iPhone as our babysitter so nothing comes easy. I like Bluetooth but being able to send signal without wire to a powered speaker for placement is nice. This machine does not have that capacity. I got an LG for my garage , it has 300 watts and rattles the walls. The more expensive Demon AVR 's offer more technology but more can go wrong. Technology is great if it works.

Pros: Enjoying streaming music from my phone.

Cons: Overpriced One HDMI for ease and sound quality would be nice.

A Master Class for an all-in-one audio system

Cliff from Argyle, TX on 12/1/2022

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

The Denon D-M41 is a bookshelf unit in name only. From its elegant, semi-industrial styling to its near-concert-hall quality sound, to its versatile set of features, Denon has provided a Master Class in what an all-in-one unit should include. Crutchfield must be commended for providing on-line a wealth of product information, including links from which you can download and print a hardcopy of the owners manual pre-purchase. Yes, I was leery of buying an audio system without first hearing it. But after two months of hard use, I can say that hands down this is the best piece of audio equipment I have ever owned, surpassing even my beloved Yamaha component system from the 1990s. Set-up was quick and painless--less than 30 minutes from unpacking to first CD play. With no sound adjustments, every word, note and musical nuance comes through with stunning clarity, vibrancy and balance. I am nearing age 70 and am hearing sounds I have never heard before. And I am also learning which of my CDs were and were not recorded at an optimum level. You can truly hear that much detail. Though it is positioned in my 12 by 14 office, with the doors open and the unit at one-third sound volume, I can hear it comfortably from 50 feet away. It pairs nicely with a set of Sennheiser HD 560S headphones---no need for a separate amplifier by the way. I could not be happier with Crutchfield, their service and with the overall performance of this little diamond.

Pros: Sound quality and features far beyond the price point for the unit; easy set up; built in headphone amplifier; sturdy construction with tight buttons and equally sturdy remote control; elegant, semi-industrial look.

Cons: None detected after two months of heavy use.

Worth the Money

I am replacing a Sony Bookshelf System that I really liked, but the right channel started fading in and out intermittently until it was completely dead. I had my eye on this Denon system for a bit and finally pulled the trigger. Glad I did. It sounds so much better. Not as many features as the Sony, but the sound is so much better. Bluetooth streaming is great and CDs sound fantastic. The speakers really fill out my office with a full sound. I don't think I would ever want to use port baffles that come with the system. The bass is rich and deep. Worth the money. Almost as nice as my main system in a lot of regards, although that is really comparing apples to oranges I guess.

Pros: Sounds Great for the money. Looks Great. A lot of audiophile sound in a small package.

Cons: Amp does blip speakers when first turned on.

Relieved that It Sounds So Great

I was a bit worried about ordering a system without first hearing it, but based on the positive reviews, I took a chance. My heart sank when I set it up and heard tinny music instead of the full, rich sound I'd hoped for. Then I realized music was coming from only one speaker; I had failed to make a good connection on the speaker wire. Once I fixed that? WOW!! The bass and brilliance I'd hoped for came through loud and clear, filling my rather large great room with sound. No regrets on this purchase.

Great little stereo/CD player that gets the job done. I bought this to replace my old Denon which I had had for over 30 years (and it was destroyed in an electrical storm). The quality of this is evident from the moment you take it out of the box. The speakers are surprisingly good too. Denon is a great brand and I'm a loyal customer to Denon, but they aren't usually known for having a very modern look to their hardware. This little gem looks fantastic though. I know it's superficial, but it's always a nice bonus when your good stuff looks good too and people have noticed this little guy and admired it's good looks. It's easy to use and does everything you want. I have also plugged in a turntable and an airport and both sound good. Sound is clear even when loud.

Pros: Quality Sounds great Looks great Small footprint good speakers

Cons: CD player is a little sensitive (two kids jumping and crashing in the room did cause it to pause for a second, once)... but it was on a stand that transmits vibrations and not on a solid shelf.

Whether you call these products mini systems, shelf stereos, or whatever, it is a shrinking category in the audio market and good systems are hard to find. This one is the best of what's out there. Excellent, clear, crisp sound. I say this as someone who listens to classical music exclusively. By now I have tested it with a full range of music from full orchestras playing grand symphonies to solo piano and solo guitar, and sound is great across the board. I listen to it in a small home office, 18 feet by 14 feet and it fills room with sound quite nicely. Can't say how it would perform in a larger room. My guess is that it would still be pretty good. The unit is solidly constructed and has a very nice tray system for CDs, which is important to me. Well-designed remote control, also. I like that the main unit has nice big knob for volume control. I miss knobs. My only gripe is the poor aesthetics. Three severe black cubes. Very unattractive. I notice that Denon's speaker line has more modern styling with rounded edges and a smoother look. Those speakers are also offered in white, which is a good idea to have softer, more neutral colors. They should borrow from those speaker designs when they redesign this product. Make smoother lines and offer lighter colors. Other than that, I am very happy with the purchase.

Pros: Excellent sound Sturdy construction Very good CD tray Nice volume control knob Well-designed remote

Cons: Ugly

Connected easily and no issues. Connected a turntable, and listed to some vinyl, sounded warm and full. Tested a few CD's, no issues. You won't be disappointed with this unit.

Pros: Super Sound, adequate bass, great remote, best mini shelf system.

I was really hopeful about purchasing a high quality sound system in this price range and this size and I got exactly what I was looking for. When I first played a CD I wasn't at once impressed until I turned up the volume a bit. Fills a large room with Nice sound. Clear high and midrange and surprisingly nice base. I thought I would need to buy a subwoofer but I won't need it. I had borrowed a friends Bose mini system and I'm glad I chose this instead.

Pros: just great sound for the size and ability to control the base with the foam baffle on the back (which I first thought was silly).

Cons: I though I had a way to turn the headphone output into a Wifi output but when you plug it into the headphone jack, it turns off the speakers. Makes sense, but I wish I had a way to run an additional WiFi speaker in another area.

Denon Makes a Quality Product

Verified employee review (What's this?)

I bought this to replace a Sony XB4 system that I bought (from Crutchfield) in 1996/97 or so. Which still works, but has some circuit shorts with radio presets, equalizer, etc. Not many complete systems are made anymore. Everything revolves around a receiver now and components that hook up to that. This Denon has a headphone jack, RCA inputs in the back for my Pioneer 300 CD changer (from Crutchfield in 1999), AM/FM radio and CD player. The combination that I wanted/needed of RCA inputs, headphone jack, CD and radio wasn't available in any other brand, or at least one that's not a cheap type brand. This is a solidly built, quality product. The only reason it gets four stars is because it doesn't have the volume or power my Sony has. It also doesn't QUITE have the expansive soundstage the Sony has being used with my Master and Dynamic headphones. The sound seems SLIGHTLY compressed sounding. Same headphones, source as with my Sony. All things considered with inflation, the Sony was 600 bucks in the late 90s, so comparably was a higher end product. But this Denon IS a great quality item that should fit the bill for people looking for specific functionality.

Pros: Quality, features.

Cons: Volume, power.

What You See Is Not What You Get

Richard from WILMINGTON, MA on 12/8/2021

Verified employee review (What's this?)

This review is all based on the flaw that the optic eye that reads the cd. Consistently the Denon D-M41 would not play my CDs because the optic eye was unable to see the disc. The message "No Disc" would appear for at least 10-20 attempts to play a cd. After using CD player Cleaning Discs the system would still falter. This became a frustrating experience and a true inconvenience. When a cd would finally play the sound was outstanding and rich. It was such a shame to have to return it because of a manufacturing flaw. Maybe I got flawed system. Nevertheless for this price it should have given me years of enjoyment yet it made me want to throw it out a window.

Pros: 1) Sound 2) Built solid 3) Easy to Operate and Set up

Cons: IT DOES NOT PLAY CDs WITHOUT CONSTANT CLEANING WHICH DESTROYS THE OPTIC EYE (Cd reader)

This compact unit produces a full and elegant sound that fills my living room. I enjoy pure honest music that is not overly bass. I listen to classical and opera and need to hear the honest notes and details. I thought that I might buy a Sony boom box for $250 or so but I knew that I would not enjoy it as much. Compact size means that this is truly a bookshelf or tuck away in a cabinet, like I did unit.

Pure Stereo Sound, Sleek Little System.

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

Bought for the improvised bedroom/office in Mom and Dad's house out in the suburbs where where I'm riding out the pandemic; I love my far larger and more powerful "audiophile" stereo system in my now unused apartment in the big city and had not been expecting much here. To my very pleasant surprise, am also loving this small system, pure, clean stereo sound, almost shocking quality for speakers and electronics of this size and at this price... no noticable distortion, solid-enough bass with just a touch of "brightness" adds verve to the listening experience without sacrificing tonal integrity; enjoying everything from Abbey Road to Kind of Blue to Chopin Nocturnes as, like everyone else, I hunker down for a long winter. Terrifically easy setup with all necessary wires included and easy to connect. Tuner's reception for FM radio especially impressive, favorite station for classical music, often static-ridden on conventional radios, comes in crystal clear. CD player easy to use/performs flawlessly and remote control works very well. Oh, and the system has a very sleek look, all black metal, wood and fabric, actually adds a modicum of "cool" to my otherwise humble digs. Tremendous upgrade over the supposedly high-end radio/cd player from a competitor that had been here, and that cost almost as much over ten years ago. [Have yet to try blu tooth capability for streaming]. Crutchfield service outstanding as always -- system delivered free of charge to CT in two days.

Pros: Pure stereo sound with amazing "panache" for a small system; sleek, high-end finish; crystal clear FM radio reception; CD player and remote perform flawlessly; super-easy set up; unbelievable value for the money.

Cons: Does not appear to support Super Audio CD format.

This Denon D-M41 is definitely a really great sounding mini system. I have a Bose Wave radio, Cambridge Soundworks world radio and Sony Mini and others. I also, added my own home built speakers and Sub along with a 25 watt amp along with a so so turn table with the Denon speakers. It's perfect for my needs. I'm a programmer and fabricate small series speakers and Subwoofers. This Denon D-M41 system is awesome for playing and testing. I Need to upgrade the turntable soon.

Pros: Crutchfield delivers on all phases of the purchase. #1 The system is so good.

Denon makes an incredible product with the D-M41 system. Remote contorl allows adjustments at the touch of a finger and can be used several feret away from the unit. Sound and clarity are excellent thru the matcked twin speakers that arrive with the unit. Small foot print comapred to full size componet systems. Quick and easy to set up. I wish there was a way to add additional speakers without tying all speakers into the only two terminals that are on the back side of the unit. It would also be nice if there was more than 1 CD capability for extended music play time.

Pros: Samll footprint for such quality performance

Cons: Only room for 1 CD VS multiple CD capacity.

Primary reason I selected the Denon was its simpl(er), straightforward controls that appealed to this older, old-tech guy. Not quite as loud as I would have liked, but actually entirely adequate for normal purposes in the large bedroom suite I have it in. Appears good quality and from an established maker, good little unit. Wish they hadn't eliminated the USB port, now requires a special cable to hook up my Mac with Itunes. Ordering from Crutchfield was a no-brainer, have gotten stuff from them for several decades with absolute satisfaction. Like.

Pros: High quality Straightforward controls Easy setup

Cons: Somewhat limited volume No USB port for hookups

I love my new stereo. I called to make sure I was wiring the speakers correctly and you guys are great. The base is rich and adjustable, sounds super when I play a cd. I hooked the blue tooth to my computer and cell phone easily. Next I set up my favorite radio stations and just have to push one number to get to the one I prefer. Denon really makes a quality product.

I have purchased at least two other compact stereo systems over the years. I also have owned larger home audio systems and audio/video sound system solutions since flat screens became the norm. I was in search of a compact stereo system that plays audio compact discs and delivers a rich sound in a single room. This can be difficult when you cannot hear the options you are considering. I researched available options. I know the Denon brand as a reliable and quality audio component manufacturer. Other options from reputable companies were generally half the price. Denon does provide a cost competitive option in the lower price range, model D-T1. I chose the Denon D-M41 in spite of the cost. The sound is rich and the power is more than sufficient for a large room (12' x 25'). Why did I choose the D-M41? Denon is a solid brand that publishes their specifications. They do not add eye (or ear) candy features I am not interested to have like karoke mode, extended bass mode or DJ operations. Also, they do not produce televisions, dishwashers and refridgerators. Denon makes audio components and has a solid reputation in the field. I paid a little more and am very happy with the product.

Disappointed in the performance. I have a 20 yr old Denon system UD-M5 with Mission speakers that is much better. I bought the D-M41 as a gift. On listening to it I switched my Mission speakers over and the new system sounds better. I concluded the Denon speakers are useless.

Pros: Not many

Well packaged. Easy set-up and to operate. It has a nice, tight sound even at the default settings. Very attractive. As with all modern 2 channel stereo systems, I am one of the many listeners (especially musicians) that do not like the three speaker requirement for some bass. We had it right from the beginning 60's, 70's and on up until early 90's with two speakers that had a "woofer" in each cabinet that would rattle walls and could make your heartbeat feel out of sync. It wasn't broke so I guess it had to be "fixed". Don't like the sub woofer concept except for movies, etc.

Pros: Appearance, sound, and power

Cons: Manual is a bit much for me, As mentioned, the sub-woofer concept-you lose half of the bass guitars' higher notes. It would not play my WMA MP3 CD, but Carter, and Oakley tried hard to help me figure this out-one of the main reasons I bought it! It is too "particular" about the format , or something. Size fits my location, though. Sub-woofer did help, but same bass guitar loss issues.

Unit Is Not Dependable

Gregory from Newport Beach, CA on 3/18/2019

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Love the sound, unfortunately I have had nothing but grief from this product. I don't believe Denon quality control is very good. Here's why. First unit purchased - great for 3 months, then the CD and Bluetooth audio both stopped working. Had to be issued a replacement unit. Second unit arrived at my home, unboxed it and it wouldn't even power on. Dead. A paperweight. Sent it back a second time. Third Denon DM41 - worked great for about 5 or 6 months. Then, the CD laser began having problems moving up and down a disc, especially when playing a programmed order of tracks (from track 3 to 6 back to 1, etc.). I could hear he laser "clicking" as if it was struggling to read discs accurately. Ultimately this killed the laser and the CD player once again. Now my Denon M41 is at the electronics shop for warranty repair. Very, very unhappy with the build quality of this product. It's just not rugged enough internally. We'll see how a repair shop does to improve upon Denon's shoddy workmanship. It's a shame, since the sound is wonderful. It's just not a dependable unit.

Pros: Sound is terrific, compact, looks great.

Cons: Terrible product quality. Have gone through 3 units and all of them had major problems. If you want a rugged, quality product that you don't have to worry about fixing every 3-6 months, stay away.

Good unit, unsatisfactory speakers

Michelle from New York, NY on 2/7/2019

Verified employee review (What's this?)

The main unit and remote are easy to use, with a decent number of functions, and the small foot print is both a visual and practical improvement over our older multi-unit set-up. However, the speakers produce very unclear, muddy sound. The enclosed foam plugs make no difference in the quality, nor do the controls available on the unit/remote. We've reconnected our old Bose shelf-tops and the sound is much clearer and definitive.

Pros: Size, remote, functionality.

Cons: Unclear sound.

High quality, straightforward design

Stanley P from Bloomfield, NJ on 1/9/2019

This is a well made mini system that is easy to use. The menu functions are very straightforward. There are enough inputs to satisfy most needs - two optical, one analog, FM and AM antenna. I can stream bluetooth audio from my phone and it works flawlessly. The sound is good - very clean and well detailed. The speakers are ported but come with foam plugs for those (like me) who prefer more subtle bass. The main unit is really solid and heavy - the case is all metal. FM performance is really good too. I had the unit set up and working (including auto-presetting the FM stations) within five minutes, following the printed quick start guide. There is a CD containing a pdf file with more detailed operating instructions. A few minor functions (like RDS) are not covered in that detailed manual, and that is my only complaint, and it's a minor one. This unit looks like it will give many years of enjoyment. I strongly recommend it if you're looking for a high quality mini stereo.

Pros: High quality, straightforward operation, well thought-out features, good sound.

Cons: The manual did not cover a few of the lesser used functions on the remote control.

I've never had such great sound from a reasonably priced stereo. Bass and treble are adjustable which is a real plus. Manual comes on a CD but if you can't use a CD the manual is downloadable from a web site. FM radiio also produces great sound. The only thing I don't like about it is that from my chair I can't see the track number. I wish it was bigger or in red.

Pros: Great sound on CD or fm radio

Cons: Can't see track number from a few feet away

Components appear to be well made and are substantial. Sound quality is excellent. Reason for 4 stars instead of 5 stars is fact that control functions are not legible on face of CD unit nor on the remote. One must resort to owner's manual.

Pros: Solid construction; excellent sound quality, fully adequate volume for small to average size room; compact system fits easily into small space; excellent value.

Cons: Control buttons are not marked on face of cd player, One must resort to remote control and owner's manual. This was never a problem on a 70's system comprised of Pioneer receiver, AR speakers, & Technics turntable.

Sound quality was incredible (5 Stars)...build quality not so much (2 stars). CD player and Bluetooth playback died less than 4 months out of the box. Something clearly died internally that prevented audio from the CD player and bluetooth to convert to the speakers. Having to wait months for a backorder replacement from Crutchfield is not ideal. Not sure if I can even trust the replacement at this point. Guess we will roll the dice and find out.

Pros: Excellent sound, compact size. Looks awesome.

Cons: Can't trust Denon quality. CD and Bluetooth audio playback died less than 4 months out of the box? Will the replacement last? Guess we will find out.

March 2018. The Denon D-M41 exceeded all expectations in quality build and sound quality! Note I have not run this stereo hooked to it's included speakers. I'm using vintage Dynaco A-25s. The bass was better than when using a 400 watt amp. The clarity of mids and highs was superb. The silence and lack of hum is incredible even when using the FM radio. The bluetooth was tested using a version of a Direct to Disk Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs Thelma Houston I've Got the Music in Me on Youtube. Incredible. I can't wait to connect a nice powered subwoofer. Only negatives are the tiny hard to see controls with no words. At 64 my eyes struggle to see these even with readers. No excuse for the hard to see controls these days. The difficulty in using the FM is major. You pretty much have to use the remote. The CD will play any kind of disk. -=j=-

Pros: Sound quality.

Cons: Small unlabeled controls.

Some surprisingly similar sound qualities as my bigger stereo (which sounds really great - Acurus DIA100, PS audio Digital Link Gen. 2 outboard DAC, Acurus CD as transport, Definitive Technology tower speakers). Great dynamics, awesome bass (for such small speakers)( I have the bass up 2 notches & treble 1), impressive sound stage. Bluetooth works great as does the tuner. CDs sound unbelievably good for such a small inexpensive piece of gear. Using it in a small room....perfect!

Pros: Truly excellent sound quality for a compact "all in -one system. Compact size perfect for smaller areas. Worth the price.

Cons: Does not have RDS. It's nice to see title and name of artist but willing to do without for the better sound

The Sound and Design are Tight and Right

After a decade or more without a real stereo, living on headphones, using the monitors in my home studio, or listening on bluetooth/computer speakers, I "asked" for this for xmas from my family. It fit perfectly on our TV console, and set up in a moment. I connected my phone via bluetooth and we spent most of the next couple of days listening to everything from symphonic music (apres midi d'une faune) to the Raconteurs "Steady as She Goes", with stops at Esperanza Spaulding, Frank Zappa, Shostakovich quartets (love those Emersons), and James Taylor. It is SUCH a pleasure having a soundstage, tight unexaggerated bass (OK, it could use a bit more...now what subwoofer should I get?). The design is dead simple, the BT and everything else works beautifully. I'm a happy music guy.

Pros: Great sound; great design; fits in a very tight space; real stereo!; Bluetooth is super handy nowadays. Remote is clear and large.

Cons: I keep on asking it to play music, but realize it doesn't have voice control ;^). It could use a bit more bass, but its great having unexaggerated "tight" bass.

solid bookshelf unit

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Overall, this is a good bookshelf unit. It is small and fits nicely in a number of space unobtrusively. The speakers seem to be tuned too low, but using the foam blockers on the rear port help some and adjusting the bass down worked, too. I've found this to be the case in most mid-priced units from earbuds and headphones to speakers. I call it the "beats effect"; after years of listening to low bit-rate digital recordings on poor equipment, people seem to mistake bass for clarity. Anyhow, the set up was pretty easy and the bluetooth was a cinch to sync. Most of the controls are on the remote, so I hope we never lose it. All in all, I think we got our money's worth, but I wasn't overly "wow-ed" by the product. It was a gift for my notoriously finicky wife to use on the mainfloor and she likes it so, it met it's purpose well. I was considering a bose wave product, but think this Denon set outperforms and has better features.

Pros: Small good sound solid remote ease of setup and use bluetooth very inconspicuous Still has a cd player excellent fm and am reception

Cons: no auxilary jack speakers tuned too low/bass heavy

I wished to replace my old Panasonic audio system with a new system. A primary requirement was to include a multi-disc changer. After a considerable amount of web research, I selected the Denon D-M41 audio system with an Onkyo DX-C390 disc changer. There were some questions I needed answered prior to my purchase. After a web search for possible vendors, I selected Crutchfield and using their on-line communication, I sent a list of questions. The same day, I received a response from Andy, one of their customer service experts. He responded to each question and encouraged me to contact him if I had additional questions. The price for the complete system was within $20 of the the other vendor I had selected. My decision was simple since I consider service a very important part of any purchase. After I placed the order, I received an e-mail from Andy letting me know I could call him at any time if I needed any help in assembling the system. The Denon was so simple to assemble and connecting the Onkyo required one audio cable and took about 30 seconds. I had the complete system up and playing in 30 minutes. It has great sound and very easy to navigate through the many options available. I highly recommend the Danon and Onyko changer if you are in the market. And, of course, I highly recommend Crutchfield as your vendor. Not only will you get a great system, but also great service.

Pros: Highly ranked in national reviews Great sound Very easy to assemble Very competitive price
