These speakers are rich! Excellent imaging. The 2 ohm set up will get the most out of your amp. Very clean!

Awesome product but no direct customer engagement available w/ Focal

I am a repeat customer. I had a pair of ES165KX2's that I used for 5 years. This time, I bought ES165K2's and the sounds quality is just as good if not better. I am rating these with 5 stars because the sound reproduction of these speakers is absolutely unreal: thumping bass, precise mid's, and crisp highes. I can't imagine someone buying these and being unhappy with the sound. However, the buyer should be aware of the following... Focal has tremendous expertise in the business they are in and make incredible products. However, they don't appear to have any interest in direct contact with their end customers. If you want to have any engagement with them, Focal instructs you to go through your vendor. My ES165KX2's suffered a bad fate. They served me well for 5 years but my headunit had some kind of failure and spued out a painfully loud ear piercing tone that burned up the voice coils. You would think for the price of these, they could get sent back to France and get repaired. Crutchfield was unable get any responses from Focal for this request (and mind you I was willing to pay for a repair). So when buying these, just know if you burn up the voice coils, your investment is gone and Focal won't help.

Picked up a brand new set of these. Initially turning them on they were weak and had low output, but after playing for about an hour they came alive. I replaced other speaker components and these Focals have a much lighter airy sound. They also have wayyy better midrange and bass output! Suprisingly the focals weigh less and can be crossed lower and driven louder The lead wires to the speaker are thinner which was odd but could be understood to keep the moving mass light. The cone is ridiculously light and the suspension is much much softer than the image dynamics! The tweeter is smaller than the typical 25mm tweeter but the inverted dome technology is incredible and has a very wide dispersion pattern. My others had a 4 db decibel difference in the tweeter from the left and right side. With these the difference is 1 db in the exact same location and angle. Even though the midbass sounds much better the dispersion pattern is about the same between the two in the same locations. I could not be happier with these speakers.

2016 Toyota 4Runner
This is my 3rd set of Focals - they have yet to disappoint.
Pros: Fantastic sound!
Cons: Slightly hollow sounding initially although that may have more to do with the enclosure (door). I have Dynamat-ed the doors and installed Fast Rings which seems to have helped.
