Handmade in France, the Elite K2 Power Series ES 165 K2E component system is the culmination of Focal's passion for perfect sound. Focal's sound gurus engaged in intensive listening sessions designing this line of speakers so that you experience uncanny realism, sweeping dynamics, and breathtaking depth in your music. This 2-ohm system extracts maximum power from your amp so you'll get more punch from your system.

A classic woofer with a twist

The 6-1/2" woofer uses Focal's classic "W" sandwich cone design for incredibly accurate audio reproduction. The light foam core is sandwiched between the nimble aramid fiber and fiberglass layers, so the woofer can demonstrate the control needed to play delicate classical passages, yet handle the power needed to drive your bass-heavy tracks with authority. Focal adds a new Tuned Mass Damper (TMD®) butyl rubber surround which minimizes harmonic distortion for the cleanest midrange possible. Focal also distinguishes this system by incorporating an aluminum phase plug in the woofer for extended frequency response.

In addition to sweet-sounding tweeters and woofers, this system includes crossovers with adjustments for the tweeter, woofer, and crossover slope.

A redesigned tweeter

The separate aramid fiber tweeter employs a unique "M"-shaped inverted dome design that disperses the highs with remarkable precision, all the way up to 22,000 Hz. The K2 Power crossovers use hand-made components developed by Focal to deliver an ideal blend of the highs and lows for a dynamic stereo image. They also include controls for a treble boost, a 3-level bass setting, and two crossover slopes — all so you can dial in the sound to your car's environment. For improved dynamic range, Focal recommends you use four amplifier channels to bi-amp these speakers by using the crossover's separate inputs for the tweeter and woofer.

Note: If only using two amplifier channels to drive these speakers, you'll need to connect short pieces of speaker wire to the tweeter and woofer inputs on each crossover.

Features

Size Classification Note: Some manufacturers, including Focal, call this size speaker a 6½. Because it requires a larger cutout than a standard 6½ speaker, Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size woofer as a 6¾. Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

Phase Plug: The bullet-shaped phase plug in the center of the woofer ensures a smooth, flat off-axis frequency response by preventing the high frequency sound waves emanating from one side of the cone from interfering with sound waves from the other side of the cone.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters can be surface or flush mounted using the included adapters, or the trim rings can be removed and the protective washers added for mounting in a factory tweeter location. The included angled cup allows surface mounting at one of two angles; approximately 60° and approximately 40°.

Crossovers: The crossover inputs and outputs are set screw terminals; they will accept bare wire to 10-gauge. The high-pass crossover slope is 12 dB/octave; one switch allows you to adjust the output level of the tweeter to -3 dB, 0 dB, or +3 dB, a second switch turns the tweeter "shelf" on/off (high-frequency boost designed to improve definition). Another switch allows you to choose between 12 dB/octave and 6 dB/octave slopes for the low-pass crossover. The crossover point for both is 3,500 Hz. Each crossover also has bi-amp inputs, one input for the tweeter and one for the woofer. When using only two amplifier channels the crossover inputs must be shorted together using two short pieces of speaker wire. Focal recommends using four amplifier channels to bi-amp the speakers for the improved dynamic range and to present an easier load for the amp(s) to drive.
