Features

Selectable Smart Impedance (SSI): A switch on the input terminal allows you to easily change the woofer's impedance between 2Ω and 4Ω settings. (The connected amplifier should be off when changing the impedance.) The power handling is the same for either setting; 450 watts RMS/1350 watts peak.

Cone: The cone material is a composite of glass fiber over a paper pulp material. Adding the glass fiber layer increases cone rigidity to improve bass accuracy, while the pulp base improves the sub's damping characteristics.

Terminal: The spring terminals will accept bare wire up to 8 gauge.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Infinity recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 0.5 ft³. Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: Infinity recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.0 ft³ with one 3" diameter x 10" long port, resulting in a tuning frequency of 45 Hz. They also recommend using a sub-sonic filter. Ported enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from a given amount of power.

Free-air Mounting: In addition to being compatible with sealed and ported enclosures, the woofer can be used in free-air applications. A free-air subwoofer is designed to be mounted on a baffle board, which separates the front of the speaker from the back. For instance, you could mount this woofer to a board attached to the rear deck or placed in the trunk against the rear seat. The trunk acts as the enclosure housing the subwoofer. Because there is no specific volume of air to stiffen the suspension, the free-air power handling is approximately half that of the woofer in a box, in this case 200 watts RMS.

Specifications

Thiele-Small Parameters: Because the woofer has two impedance settings, there are two sets of Thiele-Small parameters:

DC Resistance (Ω) 2.26 4.71
Inductance (mH) 1.48 1.406
Vas (liters) 9.12 9.759
Qms 4.13 2.438
Qes 0.632 0.689
Qts 0.548 0.537
Fs (Hz) 42.2 42.3
Radiating Area (cm²) 226.98 226.98
Xmax (mm) 10.25 10.25
Motor Force Factor (TM) 10.375 13.87

Q
Would this work as a replacement for a blown subwoofer in a 2006 Hyundai Azera with Infinity System? With it switched to 2ohm.

A
Greetings David. Thank you for your question. The factory subwoofer is a dual voice coil subwoofer. It takes 4 wires, and each voice coil is 2 ohms. The Kappa is too deep to fit and cannot be wired like the factory subwoofer. Plus this Kappa is going to need a considerable amount of power that the factory amplifier just does not have. If anything would be remotely possible, you would need a very efficient dual voice coil 2 ohm subwoofer, or add the appropriate amplifier for it.

Q
Hi is it wise To play at 2ohms for a daily or 4ohms is better for a daily setup also do you get 400rms @ 2 and 4 ohms ?

Hello and thanks for the question. So your impedance load is something that typically is determined by the amp you tend to put on this sub. Impedance load differences mean there is more resistance on the lines when a speaker is ran at 4-ohm and the amp usually needs to be a stronger amp to push that speaker at a 4-ohm impedance. 2-ohm is typically the recommended impedance by us here at Crutchfield because its a bit easier to use and your amp options are usually a bit more available while 4-ohm will be more efficient but the amp needed usually needs some more juice behind it. Usually if an amp can push 300-400w at 2-ohm for example, that means its 4-ohm power output will usually only be around 150-175w RMS.
