About the JBL BassPro Nano

Bob Bihlmayer

Compact bass for your compact space

Today's compact powered subwoofers have brought the pleasures of great bass to smaller spaces than ever before, but there are still places a typical compact sub won't fit. JBL's BassPro Nano gives you 100 solid watts of RMS power in a 10" x 8" x 3" enclosure that fits under almost any seat. A specially-designed shallow-profile 6"x8" woofer gives the BassPro Nano the impact of a larger speaker while saving valuable space. The die-cast anodized aluminum enclosure and metal grille protect the speaker from accidental damage.

The included wiring harness simplifies installation, and a wired remote control lets you adjust the sub's volume from the driver's seat. Features

Enclosure & Driver: The JBL BassPro Nano features a single 6x8" woofer in a sealed enclosure that's compact enough for mounting under seats and in tight spaces.

Amplifier: The subwoofer enclosure is powered by a built-in 100 watt RMS Class-D amplifier. Class-D operation means the amp runs cooler and draws less current from the vehicle's electrical system.

High/Low Inputs: The BassPro Nano includes a pair of RCA low-level signal inputs, accepting signals from 0.1V - 4.0V. If connecting to a factory headunit or radio without pre-amp outputs, 2-channel speaker-level input wiring is included, accepting signals from 0.25V - 10V.

Audio Sense: The Auto Turn-On button, when set to On, allows the BassPro Nano to power on when it senses voltage on the speaker-level inputs, eliminating the need for connecting a remote turn-on wire.

Crossover: The amplifier's low-pass crossover point is continuously variable from 50 to 150 Hz; the crossover slope is 12 dB/octave.

Bass Boost: The bass boost circuit provides a variable (0-12dB) signal boost centered at 50Hz.

Remote Level Control: A remote level control is provided, that can be mounted under a dash or console for easy adjustment of the bass level from the driver's location. The remote level control includes a 16.5' remote cable terminated in RJ-25 connectors on both ends.

Mounting: The JBL BassPro Nano includes 4 mounting plates and hardware for installing the subwoofer under seats, rear truck cabs, trunks, or any location where space is tight.

Additional Controls&Indicators:

  • Phase: A push-button switch (0° or 180°) allows the subwoofer's phase to easily be inverted .
  • Gain: A rotary knob adjusts the input signal level.
  • Power LED: Lights to indicate unit is powered on.
  • Protect LED: Lights to indicate a fault or short-circuit.

Connections:

  • Remote Bass: RJ-25 jack for use with included remote bass level control.
  • Fuse: A single 15 amp ATC fuse protects the amplifier.
  • Input Harness: A 12", 10-pin input harness includes: Power and Ground (14 AWG), a Remote Input wire, and Left&Right High Level Input wires.

Q
I have a Boss BV800ACP head unit with a JBL bass pro nano already installed. I would like to install another bass pro nano. My question is, what would be the best way to wire it and what will I need to buy in order to make it happen?
chris  Nov 24, 2023
1 answer
A
In addition to the cabling needed to get audio and power into it, you will need to split the subwoofer outputs on the receiver using a pair of RCA Y adapters that have 1 male to two female connections: https://www.crutchfield.com/g_719/RCA-Cables.html?tp=1694&fa=1#&nvpair=FFType|Y-adapter and if you want to maintain the same clarity you get now, a line driver is also needed: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_161LC1I/AudioControl-LC1i.html

Q
Does this need an amplifier to work, or will it work with stock system without an amplifier, like a Ford Maverick (no B&O system)?
steven  Oct 29, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Steven. Thank you for your question. The JBL BassPro Nano, has a built in 100 watt amplifier. You will need a 10 gauge amplifier wiring kit, and have the power wire go to the vehicles battery.

Q
I have a 2023 vw Taos SE and I was wondering if it was possible to run 2 of the bass pro nanos one under each front seats. Is it possible to run these in parallel with each other then wire up to factory system?
zychattack  Aug 25, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Zychary, and thank you for your questions. These have their own built in amplifiers so they would not be ran in parallel like passive subwoofers would. You can connect 2, or more if you like. Make one a left subwoofer, the other a right, or both mono. Its up to you.

Q
I wanna install this on my 2012 Honda crv with a factory radio, what wires am I gonna need to install this?
gael  Jul 25, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Gael, and thank you for your question. You will need a 10 gauge amp wiring kit, some T taps, and speaker wire to install this with a factory radio. A bass restoring processor would be needed to increase the low frequency output factory radios take out, and also eliminate bass roll off factory radios also do. That is an optional part, not needed, but recommended for better bass.

What gauge is each wire on the harness?
jose  Jul 05, 2023

A
Thank you for your question, Jose. The 12", 10-pin input harness includes: Power and Ground (14 AWG), a Remote Input wire, and Left & Right High-Level Input wires.

Q
Hi, I'm shopping for a powered subwoofer, and I want it to be able to fit under the seat of my 2008 Honda S2000. Can you tell me which model(s) you would suggest? Would the JBL BassPro Nano fit?
steven  Jun 30, 2023
1 answer
A
Unfortunately, we do not have measurements for the area under the seats in your vehicle. I recommend check the open spacing using the measurements we have available for the various subwoofers we offer. For the JBL BassPro Nano, the measurements are 7-11/16"W x 2-15/16"H x 10-1/4"D.

Q
I have a 2003 nissan maxima. Can I put the jbl bass pro in the trunk of my car or does it have to go under the seat ???
calvin  May 03, 2023
1 answer
A
This subwoofer could also be placed in the trunk. Keep in mind that having it under a seat may provide better bass volume since the subwoofer would be closer to the listeners.

Q
Can this be Installed to Acura RLX 2017 with the existing sound system? Thank you very much
john de  Mar 30, 2023
1 answer
A
This JBL BassPro Nano would be the perfect option for any factory system, John! Hybrid RLX's are limited to smaller current draw on powered subwoofers, but the JBL is fine at 15 amps! The BassPro Nano gets signal from a speaker-level signal tap so you would need to add some extra speaker wire, taps, and a power and ground wiring kit if you are installing yourself. The handy link below has the BassPro and all the gear needed for install! https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rXYEc222/cart/EmailCart.aspx?emKey=3108748

Q
Can this be installed in a 2022 Honda Civic Sport? If so, what all do I need besides the JBL BassPro Nano? Can I use the factory head unit?
cullen  Mar 06, 2023
1 answer
A
The JBL BassPro Nano would be an excellent call, and you can install this in almost any vehicle Cullen! You would need to pair the JBL BassPro Nano with a 10-gauge wiring kit, some extra speaker wire for your signal, and some posi-tap tools to make tapping-in for signal a breeze. Check out the link below with the install package, it has everything you would need! We provide lifetime Technical Support with any order, and we can also help you tap-in at the right place for your exact model Civic. https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rXYEc222/cart/EmailCart.aspx?emKey=3091567

Q
can this be connected to a 2channel amp? I have a 2channel 120w amp connected to 2 (1 in each door) 5 1/4 2way speakers. Would like to add a sub. Amp is super basic and has no rca...just 2pair speaker connections
gentry  Feb 15, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings and thank you for your question. The BassPro Nano just needs a signal like your 2 channel amp. Either from the vehicles speaker wire leads, or if your stereo has RCA outputs, you can get the signal from those as well.
hogan  Feb 15, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Can components speakers be hooked up to this ?
samuel  Feb 03, 2023
1 answer
A
No. This is a simple powered subwoofer. Its internal amplifier is only made to power the subwoofer. It will not power other speakers.
zachary  Feb 03, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Can this unit be mounted 90° on it's side? I want to mount it to the back wall of a single cab pickup behind the seat. Or will that cause overheating issues with the built-in amp?
colter  Jan 27, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Colter, and thank you for your question. As long as you have good ventilation around the powered sub, you can mount it vertically. It has a class D amp, that does not generate much heat.
hogan  Jan 27, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Hello, Is it normal for me to barely notice the sub since installed? I have 4 door speakers that are powered by a 45 watt Alpine amp and the door speakers are 45 watt RMS so that's a good fit. And then the powered Bass Pro Nano. I have adjusted the gain on both the amp and the powered sub. I could turn up the gain on the powered sub, but then it would just sound distorted and produce bad quality bass. Any thought? Thanks.
glenn  Jan 24, 2023
1 answer
A
You should definitely notice some distinct bass with that powered subwoofer. This would definitely be the type of thing to troubleshoot with tech support so please give us a call and we can make sure everything is good otherwise our expert advisors could possibly find an alternative. The direct line for tech support would be on your invoice but if you're unable to find that give us a call at 800.324.9695 and we will get you taken care of.

Can anybody compare the sound of this to the BASSLINK MINI? Both are made by Harman; they look identical; they even have identical specs. They may, in fact, be identical units with different emblems. But the price is *extremely* different. So, does the more expensive unit, the BASSLINK MINI, deliver a better sound? Thanks!

I have the JBL BassPro Nano and am quite happy with its performance for my taste. Harman owns JBL and Infinity, so these are the same product in different packaging. Kind of like a GMC Yukon and a Chevy Tahoe. I'd save the $90 difference, but the JBL BassPro Nano and put the money toward other system upgrades.
james  Jan 26, 2023
A
I have the infinity in my vehicle and the JBL in my daughters vehicle. I am not a professional but there is no real difference in one vs the other. Both are great sounding and take up minimal space. Can't go wrong either way.

What is the speaker cone and surround made of ?
michael  Jan 17, 2023

Greetings Michael, and thank you for your question. JBL does not provide the materials of the driver or surround. The grille is not removable either or we would check one ourselves. Wish I had better news for you.

Q
Will I need to purchase speaker wire and an amp wiring kit to go along with this?
grant  Jan 12, 2023
1 answer
A
An amp wiring kit will be necessary, preferably 10 or 12 AWG. Whether or not speaker wire is necessary will depend on whether this will be connected to a factory audio system or an aftermarket radio. If the latter, then RCA cables should be used.

Q
I have a 1994 Mazda B2300, standard cab. (It's essentially a rebadged 1994 ranger.) I'm definitely going down the powered sub route, as I have no room whatsoever in the cab for a normal sized sub. I'd love to put one under the drivers seat, with another under the passenger, I want It to be nice to look at, and permanent. Would that be too much bass for a small truck? Not enough?
kyle  Nov 17, 2022
3 answers
A
There is a wired remote volume control that comes with the unit, so I would not be worried about too much bass. Mine is actually in a golf cart, under the seat, so I can't speak to how it sounds in an enclosed cab. The rest of my system is 2ea. 6" JBL speakers driven by an amp. This fills out the low end nicely and I love it, but it does not really "bump"... I am in a totally open vehicle though, so no telling if it would have more punch inside the cab if that's what you're looking for...
tyler  Nov 17, 2022
A
I have installed this same JBL unit in a Honda Civic Hatchback (under the passenger seat), an Audi A4 (in the trunk) and have a new one in the box waiting to go into a Subaru Forester. These units really help improve the overall sound of stock systems. In my experience the bass volume can be turned up to overpower the rest of the system, so I would suggest starting with one. If you find you want a second unit it would be really easy to link them together.
gary  Nov 17, 2022
A
It will depend on how much you want to rattle things. Put one in an extended cab GMC and it works well, but not overpowering. Not using high volume levels, because I want to keep my hearing. You will have plenty if you use 2 units, IMO.

Q
would this guy work in a 2016 Polaris General 1000 with the MTX soundbar?
brian  Nov 11, 2022
1 answer
A
This JBL has no marine rating sadly Brian, this would not be a great choice on your 2016 Polaris General 1000 as it may not hold up to the rigors of offroad use. We do offer an SSV Works 170-GN-UD10U subwoofer enclosure that will fit your General and handle not only the SSV works 10" sub but many other 10" marine rated subwoofers. If you are looking for a marine rated all-in-one then scope out the Bazooka MBTA10100 in the second link below. If you can fit this in, it performs similar to the JBL sub but is marine rated for water resistance and shockproof! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_327GNUD10U/SSV-Works-170-GN-UD10U.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_204MBTA10/Bazooka-MBTA10100.html

Will this fit under the seat of a 2017 wrx?
jeffrey  Oct 04, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Jeffrey, and thank you for your question. We unfortunately do not measure under vehicle seating. The JBL Nano is a tad less than 3 inches tall. It is designed to fit under most vehicles seats, but you might wat to take a measurement under you seat first. There is not much of anything that would be less tall than the Nano.

Yes
mark  Feb 23, 2022
A
No need. Just run a single cable to either of the inputs.
nikolai  Feb 23, 2022
A
This is a mono sub, so I am pretty sure its just combining the two inputs anyway, so you should be ok just plugging into one of the channels on the sub. While I dont THINK there would be a benefit to using the rca splitter, I also dont think it would hurt anything.

Not sure specifically for that car. I put it into a 2005 Honda Accord LX under the drivers seat and fit perfectly.

Q
Could this be used in a home theater system with a receiver instead of a car?
tom  Dec 14, 2021
5 answers
A
Could be, but you will have to have a good 12 volt DC power supply.
alan  Dec 15, 2021
A
The BassPro Nano is powered by 12 volts DC. Your home theater will be using AC (120 volts if in USA) so the short answer would be no.
brian  Dec 14, 2021
A
No, it's powered by 12V dc. Home theater equipment is powered by120V ac. You could purchase an inverter, but the sub would amplify the "dirty" noise of the inverter. This would not be a good choice.
bret  Dec 14, 2021
A
It would not be practical. But if you can set up a 12volt power with enough amps it should work.
binh  Dec 14, 2021
A
It works great for a small space like a car interior, but it would be undesized for a home theater environment. In addition, it requires a 12 volt DC power supply.

Q
I'm just making sure I understand the Bass Remote Control function when the bass remote is disconnected. I tried the unit with and without the bass remote connected. As far as I can tell, the BassPro Nano reverts to "MAX" when the remote is disconnected. As my Alpine Head Unit has sub woofer outputs, I'll just control the Nano via the Head Unit. There is no documentation in the owners manual with respect to this issue. I presume no harm will occur to the unit because of this?

Q
How would you recommend hooking this up to a 2021 4Runner with the non-JBL system?
john  Dec 03, 2020
5 answers
A
I got this for my Honda S2000 back in April 2020. This is not a plug and play component. You will have to run 12 volt power from the battery with an in line fuse, as well as splicing into your factory stereo to get the signal wire hooked up. It does not come with the fuse or wiring so I had to buy that separately from the autoparts store. I am a pretty seasoned DIY'er, got an alarm system at the same time because someone broke into my car, installed everything myself, but sounds like you need to take it to a professional installer since you are asking this question.

Q
Can I use an 8 gauge amp wiring kit? Mainly is it safe to splice 8 gauge power to the 14 gauge wire on the Nano's loom? What's the best way to step between the two wires or Is it better to use a smaller wire?
chris  Oct 01, 2020
2 answers
A
No reason you cant go from 8 ga to 14ga like that, Actually the more, and longer run of thicker ga cable you can use the better. You will have less voltage drop that way, not that the Nano is a high power draw though. You just need a way to physically connect the 8ga to the 14ga wire. You can solder it. Or maybe use a small distribution block.
john  Oct 01, 2020
A
Sure you can. Just take care and do a good job on your splice and insure that you put a fuse on the positive side of the circuit close to your battery. Try to keep power wires away from speaker wiring due to the RF from the power wires. If you run power wires next to speaker wiring you could end up with a whine that you can hear through your speakers that will change pitch with the RPM of the engine. Hope this helps

I recently installed a pioneer head unit, door speakers, dash speaker, and this subwoofer. First and foremost, I hope you didn't fall prey to the quick connect RCA plugs on the subwoofer and / or the head unit. They wont power the speakers. Hardwire everything. In this case, run the red positive wire to the battery. Run the black wire to a bolt to ground it. Run the volume / on / off cable to wherever you want to quickly adjust it. For me, I ran the speaker wires from the subwoofer to the head unit and connected it with the rear left an right speakers. That may not be the best speakers to add it to, but it worked for me and sounds very good. Hope this helps.

Is your factory amp able to push the power those infinity door speakers need? If not I would recommend doing a duel amp wiring kit and running power for both a 4 channel amp and this sub. The basspro nano is a very good system, but is only good if it is in the main cabin under a seat. It will have a very hard time going from the trunk all the way to the driver seat. It is not powerful enough for that.

Just follow up the manufacturer installation directions. Set up is very easy. Also, don't forget Crutchfield'sTech support. They can help you with any questions 24/7. Hope this helps!

I have a 2018 GMC Sierra that has cables to connect a sub under the seat, is there a kit that can be used to connect this subwoofer at this same location? The wiring is from the factory and designed to connect a kicker amp and subwoofer that is sold by GMC.

The JBL basspro nano comes with line and speakers level inputs you probably can use the factory wires for input There should be a power, ground and remote wire from the factory since it was designed to connect an amp and subwoofer

I have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler with center console sub. Can I hook this up off of the existing sub and have both or is it one or the other?

If the exiting sub is powered then no you can't take that amp powered signal. But you can take the signal pre amp and use that for this sub to run both. Usually if a signal is split like that it gets a little weaker. The JBL has adjustable gain so you can even out with the existing sub or not depending on the two subs sizes you can cover more Hz range.

Not sure if this will ensure success for you, but I did something similar with the small "sub woofer" in the center console of my 1997 Lexus LX450 (Land Cruiser). It has a 4" factory-mounted sub in center console and I was able to fit the BassPro Nano in the center console and still use the existing factory sub as well. However, that required me to stick with the factory amp, which I will likely be ditching in favor of a more powerful aftermarket amp. Anyway, the JBL BassPro Nano is plenty powerful enough for my needs, so I won't mind losing the small factory sub when I upgrade the amp. I am very happy with the JBL! It really brought the system to another level.

I had the same question for my 1999 Boxster. I installed one behind passenger seat, and I would like to put another behind the driver's. I think that you could do it by using a phone line splitter after the wired volume control. This would send the same level to both subs, but you could adjust a bit with the gain in each. I haven't tried this, but I think it could work. Any thoughts?

There is a wired volume control that plugs into amp. It cannot control any other sub. You would need an external control before the audio is split to run more than one sub.

The hardest part is running the power wire from the battery into the passenger cabin. Finding a spot to snake the wire in.

Very easy. You don't even have to remove the stereo, just take speaker inputs from one nearby speaker.

You would splice into the speaker wires of the factory radio. It is known as the high signal output or speaker out put.

yes, just use high level/speaker signal, left speaker for one and right speaker for other as the signal source. Factory won't have RCA/low line output.

You sure can connect two of these to a stock radio! I recommend contacting an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to discuss this and get all the wiring needed to install them
