Back up with confidence

Back up with confidence

Take the "fingers crossed" feeling out of backing up by adding Jensen's BUCAM200J backup camera to your vehicle. The camera delivers a wide 170-degree horizontal view that's an invaluable aid when you're reversing into a tight spot.

The camera's composite video connection makes it a great match for almost all video receivers with a backup camera input. Jensen includes a 19-3/4' video cable that runs from the rear camera to the video screen (not included) in the front of your vehicle.

Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.

What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)

What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.

How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.

Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Product Research

Features

Backup Camera: This rear-view camera can be installed on a variety of vehicles with an in-dash aftermarket video monitor. Your aftermarket in-dash monitor must feature a composite video camera input. The camera allows you to view what's behind your vehicle on your in-dash monitor's screen when you put your vehicle in reverse.

Note: This rear-view camera is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

CMOS Image Sensor: The rear-view camera employs a CMOS image sensor with a resolution of 640 x 480 (effective pixels). The image sensor also incorporates auto white balance.

Wide View Lens: The rear-view camera features a 170-degree wide view lens to help you see better behind your vehicle.

Low Light Visibility: The rear-view camera provides low-light visibility down to 0.5 lux.

Parking Guidelines: The rear-view camera provides parking guidelines on the screen of your vehicle's in-dash monitor to help you back into a parking space. You can remove the parking guidelines by cutting the blue wire loop of the camera's attached power/video cable.

Composite Video: The rear-view camera comes with a 19.75' composite video cable to run from the camera to the composite video camera input of your vehicle's in-dash monitor.

Weather Resistant Housing: The rear-view camera utilizes a weather resistant zinc alloy housing with a IP67 rating.

Mounting Bracket: The rear-view camera comes with a bracket that allows you to mount the camera under a flat surface on the back of your vehicle. Two screws and self-adhesive tape are supplied. The mounting bracket allows you to adjust the angle of the camera up or down. The camera needs to be mounted from underneath the mounting surface with the screw-holes facing up, otherwise image from the camera will not be right side up.

Power Requirements: In addition to connecting the rear-view camera to your in-dash monitor's composite video camera input, you will also need to hardwire power and ground of the camera to your vehicle. Power can be obtained from your vehicle's reverse light circuit or from the reverse gear wire of your aftermarket stereo (if applicable). The ground will need to be connected to your vehicle's metal chassis.

It is, Makaila! The Jensen BUCAM200J would be a great choice to pair with the Jensen Car710W.

Q
Is this compatible with the Alpine ILX-650? Also, any installation guides for 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
archie  Nov 29, 2021
1 answer
A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
If I need an extension cable (for a 28' RV), do I need male/male, female/male, or female/female cable?
michael  Jun 16, 2019
1 answer
A
If you can find a single cable it would need to be female/ male. We don't carry such a cable so we recommend getting a male/ male RCA video cable and using a simple RCA barrel connector like this: https://bit.ly/2RGIrp3

Q
Does it come with the wires to tap into the reverse wire of your truck?
christopher  May 31, 2019
1 answer
A
Yes, however I decided to wire it to the accessories wire so it would just be available to view whenever the car is on.

Q
Is this comparable with the Sony XAV ax100 headunit?
musab  Mar 01, 2019
1 answer
A
Yes. Both the Jensen camera and Sony stereo feature the standard composite video (RCA) connection.

Q
I see the Overview comment that this camera is 170 degrees, but can anyone confirm that for an absolute fact, not just the restated claim on the manufacturer's specs? I bought a similar camera that claimed to be 170 and wasn't. Reading others' comments, apparently the web is full of backup cameras that claim to be 170 degrees but are nowhere near 170. Mine was about 130 which is very significantly less helpful because it simply misses the traversing activity that is hardest to see. I have a new car for comparison and experiments show that the new car has amazingly close to 180 degrees, so I presume it's the benchmark 170.

It's not 170 or anywhere near 180. I have this camera on my 03 Mach 1 right above the license plate in the middle of the trunk. It does not catch the edges of the bumper. Only a little past the center portion. The car is in storage or I would take a picture. I would say it's between 130-150 view. I only needed it for backing into my garage and not hitting the motorcycles so I can live with the smaller view.
fabio  Jan 30, 2019
A
When we are backing up and close the camera shows things that appear to be in back but checking the side mirrors the items are beyond the width ouf the extended mirror. The one thing I miss is no warning sound or I never saw how to set the sound because my navigation system allows for audio.

Q
how would I mount this on my 2000 ford f 150 ?
jerry  Jan 16, 2019
1 answer
A
Mine broke after 13 months, so I would find another camera, like the Kenwood.

Q
how would you fasten this to a 2000 ford f 150 , on the license plate ?
jerry  Jan 16, 2019
1 answer
A
i screwed 2 pilot holes just smaller than the screws just above the license plate and screwed directly into the bumber. i didnt want it to interfer with the license plate as thats a thing that comes off and get replaced from time to time.

Q
IS the camera Water Proof?
elliott  Jan 22, 2018
1 answer
A
It is waterproof enough to survive on the exterior of your car. I am not sure if it is suitable for submerged operation.
terry  Jan 23, 2018
Q
will the image be right side up no matter how it is mounted?
michael  Jan 01, 2018
2 answers
A
I'm not sure whether you've taken a good look but the bracket to which the camera is mounted is capable of being removed and the camera flipped. This would fix your issue if you mount the bracket differently (perhaps on top of a bumper or other assembly as opposed to on the underside of a trunk lip.)
stephen  Jun 15, 2018
A
It will not. This camera only shows an image right side up when its mounted from under a flat surface. We do have cameras that can be mounted from on top of a surface. I recommend contacting an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 for a personal recommendation on one! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Q
Could this be used as a front view camera as well?
lucy  Oct 08, 2017
3 answers
A
Possibly, you'd have to wire up a switch to activate it since they are usually wired into the reverse light wires for power. You won't be able to record with it if that's what you're looking to do with it
richard  Oct 09, 2017
A
I believe it can, parking lines can be removed with a cut of the loop. Mine is used inside my cab facing forward as a baby monitor. Separate monitor from my back up that I also use to hook up to my 5th wheel when towing.
thomas  Oct 08, 2017
A
Yes, it can be used anywhere on a vehicle.

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
2 questions What is the blue wire loop 3 feet from camera? The second - if I use 2 lines supplied one for video the other power and ground the installation is specific but if I use only one line video / power combined to stereo do I need to ground ? Where would the ground wire be in this set up? Thanks
john  Mar 06, 2017
2 answers
A
There are "parking guide" marks in green, yellow, red lines that are projected on the display. If you don't want those guide marks to be displayed you can cut the little blue loop wire.
