Serious glare issue
Guest from Sweeny TX on 9/26/2023
2006 Dodge Ram 2500
Bought this unit DNR476S because it could handle three cameras and had navigation. I really like it but during the day the glare on the screen is so bad that you cannot see what is being displayed. I am investigating non-glare screen protectors with the hope that they will fix the glare problem.
Pros: Handles 3 cameras. OK navigation capabilities. Apply CarPlay (wired only). Sound is good.
Cons: Screen glare is very bad in daylight. Takes forever to boot up. Stupid warning/agree screen every time you turn it on. Screen brightness controls are useless. Switches on front camera when coming to a stop, even when you disable this feature.

Good for the money
Peter from San Mateo, CA on 7/10/2022

This is a very nice unit but it lacks some of the features of the more expensive units from Kenwood. It does not have an HD radio but, I never heard much improvement from other Kenwood HD radios and I have had a bunch. It does not have DVD/CD ability but I only really miss the ability to angle the screen to the optimal position. To mirror your android you must connect it via a USB cable to connect Android Auto. You do not have to physically connect it if all you want to do is listen to your podcasts and make/receive phone calls. If you want to mirror your android wirelessly then you will need a DNX996XR or DNR876S. All that said if you want to have DVD/CD as an option it will cost about $100 more. If you want HD radio in addition to DVD/CD you can add another $100 to the number.

Good Choice for Our RV
Wayne from Underhill, VT on 6/4/2022
2000 Ford Econoline
Bought this unit to replace an old Alpine head unit in our RV. Did a lot of research on GPS head units before settling on this Kenwood. For our needs, this was the best bang for the buck. Crutchfield was also the best place for our purchase, given their after purchase installation support and warranty/return policies. Price was competitve with other vendors also. Altho only in the first month of use of the new setup, so far no regrets.

Great to have one that works.
Casey from Leavenworth, KS on 2/15/2022
2010 Toyota Tacoma
Once finally back in stock, this was purchased to replace a faulty (refurbished) DDX6906S that would constantly freeze up and Android Auto that had stopped working. It's great to have a screen that doesn't freeze up and functioning navigaton that negates the need for Android Auto. Installation was plug and play since I'd already spliced in the Kenwood harness for the previous receiver. Really like the split screen setting between navigation and the music that's playing. Unfortunately Kenwood never tested this for driving at night, as it barely dims when the headlights are turned on and it's absolutely blinding while driving at night. Additionally, it's disappointing that Kenwood has decided to remove the volume knob from most of their products. I knew these two items when I purchased it, although wanted the Garmin GPS.
Pros: Easy to install and set up. Flawless GPS from Garmin. Great split screen setting.
Cons: Absolutely blinding at night- should definitely dim more. No volume knob.

2017 Jeep Wrangler UPGRADE!!
Chris from Carson City, NV on 2/11/2022
2017 Jeep Wrangler
With the plague on, finding a decent head-unit from Kenwood had been hard. Luckily, the email notification tool from Crutchfield allowed me to get this head unit when a few came in stock. I opted for the full install kit in addition to the head-unit. Of course UPS took their sweet time (6 days) but eventually the shipment arrived and all the parts and pieces were accounted for. Using the Maestro Rr and the wiring harness made set up easy. But...the Metra mounting kit was crap. The two nose pieces bowed out, away from the face and the side panels were flimsy. Nothing would make it sit right in the dash. I bought a Schosche kit from Amazon which fit the dash better and was thicker than the Metra. It also brought the face up closer to edge of the dash. The Kenwood deck is a little slow to start, about 15 seconds but overall is a significant upgrade from the stocke 430N. I have the Alpine system and the Kenwood brought it to life. Carplay is also a huge improvement over UConnect for phone. Overall, a good upgrade to factory. Minus one star for the Metra dash kit and slow startup.
Pros: - Much better sound and control than OEM - Easy to setup
Cons: - Slow to startup

Fort Worth

I replaced my 16 year old factory stereo which actually worked, with a Kenwood which I purchased from Crutchfield, that has a radio that quit working in less than two years. I couldn't be less happy this situation. The radio stopped won't pick up any stations and it won't even scan. I hooked several other antennas directly to it and it still didn't work. I don't believe that it is my truck antenna. I reached out to Kenwood and then had me load in a new firmware update. This new firmware didn't work either. I contacted Kenwood and they said I should download the IHEART app! I don't want a IHEART app. I like to listen to the radio because I don't like jacking with my dang cell phone when I am driving. I should give this 1 star but everything else is still working. This problem certainly explains the one year warranty. I always though Kenwood produced quality equipment. Sadly, this isn't the case.
Pros: Can't think of any.
Cons: Poor quality.

As always Kenwood delivers with the DNR476S! Awesome receiver with great features. Set up is simple and if needed Kenwood has a great manual available. Installation went very well. Mine went into an older RV motor home. With good measurements and careful planning, the dash was carefully cut and trimmed to fit the new double din receiver. Hooking up the wires was no problem following the manual. A little extra time adapting to the older RV wiring was required. But having Crutchfield technical assistance available makes it all the easier! I added two new Polk Audio DB 652 dash speakers to replace the old worn out factory speakers.. wow what a difference! I also added a panel mount USB to make plugging our iphones that much easier. It really makes a clean instlation vs. having a USB plug hanging down somewhere to try and plug in. Our first trip is coming up and we're looking forward to using the new navigation and great audio.

Map Updates Are Really Poor
Tommy from Phoenix, AZ on 8/10/2020
2011 Chevrolet Malibu
This is a terrific looking unit, and sounds really good and allows for many customization features. I have it hooked to a back-up camera and the picture is excellent. When I first installed it, I loaded it with a 256 Gb Micro SD card with 7000+ FLAC encoded songs and although it gets "lost" after a car restart while indexing, plays all my music with admirable fidelity and reliability. The screen is washed out frequently as it cannot be made bright enough to overcome a sunny day at most angles. But, my biggest complaint is the total lack of support from Kenwood regarding map updates. I contacted Garmin and they update maps frequently, but Kenwood typically releases the updates only annually and then at a cost of $74. When I wrote them about it, they were very unhelpful saying, "The release date for future updates is not available. Unfortunately we cannot confirm when an update will be released or what it will address." My recent $74 update is missing a major freeway that has been open since Dec. 2019. Furthermore, the updates MUST reside on the SD card which has to stay plugged into the unit, meaning that all my music had to be moved to an expensive new 256Gb USB stick, although it plays fine from there also. So, since you have to follow Kenwood's unnecessarily complex and expensive map update process which lags way behind reality, you should plan on never having the most current Garmin maps.
Pros: Great Sound Lots of customization options Handles Large USB and SD drives
Cons: Map Updates are Expensive, Complicated and Outdated Screen is Not Bright Enough Gets "Lost" in Library After Restart During Indexing

Nice radio with good features. Personally did not work for me due to the iDatalink setup which did not retain my back up camera. One complaint is that the my volume was very different from being connected to just being Bluetooth. I could not find a setting to correct this either. So basically I couldn't hear without it being plugged in and phone calls had to be turned all the way up. Last complaint I thought maps would be free like all other Garmins this is not true cost about $70 a year if you want the most up to date maps.
Pros: - Apple Car play - Garmin - EQ is great
Cons: - Have to pay for maps - Did not work in 2012 Tacoma.

I have purchased two of these, both with the Idatalink Maestro. The first was for a 2009 F150 and I have been very happy with the DNR476S and with the integration to the vehicle. The second was for a 2018 RAV4. The integration with the Rav4 is exceptional. The two things that really impressed me was retaining the enhanced backup guide lines, that turn with the steering wheel, and the audio, track and station info on the instrument cluster display. I am also pleased with the Garman gps, which actually was a major reason for choosing this unit. I would recommend this to anyone looking for built in gps.

Installation was pretty straight forward as I had modified dash to put another radio in. I was not happy with that radio and after using it for a year I decided to upgrade to a better unit. Hit a couple snags on the installation and called for help. Both times the Crutchfield tech was patient and got me through the problem. I know they help a lot of people every day but they treat you like you are the only one. I could not be happier with this unit and am glad I decided to upgrade. I'll be a Crutchfield customer for life as they are the kind of people that treat you like a customer they value. Thanks Crutchfield!

Decent unit for the money. Touch screen is not the best; I believe it's resistive and not capacitive. Should have a soft button for the home screen so you don't have to always use the hard home button as it is eventually going to wear out and start acting flaky. Multiple home screens is a nice feature. Android auto works well but it is wires as the unit does not have wi-fi to support wireless Android Auto. Both the USB and SD audio sources use the internal player which does not allow you to scuffle from sub folders which really sucks. You have to navigate all the way down to a folder that only contains mp3 files etc. I have my music in a file structure mp3/artist/album and you can't point to the mp3 or top level directory and have it random play all your music. In my case I have to point to an individual album and it will scuffle the songs in that folder only. From what I understand most other units function the same way; really crappy. Radio......radio's a radio, not much to be said there. I purchased the external Sirius/XM SX300 Tuner and it works great; lot of nice features and great colorful display with album art etc. Bluetooth / Hands Free works well. The rear view external camera works well also. In audio controlls you can have a graphic Eq. setting for each source which is great and you can set the level of each source to obtain the same volume. There are several sound effect settings as well and you can save the audio setup.

So far, so good . . .

1999 Chevrolet Corvette
Fairly happy so far - installation was pretty straightforward (although this is the third time I have installed an aftermarket unit in this car so pretty much know what to expect) and set up was trouble free as well. I have not got much usage time in as this in my '99 Corvette, which I am not able to drive much right now as it is the dead of winter. The nav works great and is Garmin , which I am very used to. I did connect it for Android Auto and tried that out but that is a feature I've never had before so will play with it more when driving season begins. I primarily play music in .mp3 format and I like that I can put the music on a Micro-SD card and leave the USB connection free for plugging in the phone for Android Auto. I also use the satellite radio a lot in my other cars so I am looking forward to using this in my 'Vette now. Calls through phone on Bluetooth seem fine, loud enough and clear. Screen is bright and clear and I am hoping it will still be easy to read in daylight when the top is down. There is one minor concern on the display screen when playing music from the Micro-SD card. Sometimes the song (track) will finish and go on the next song (track) but the display will not change, the previous song will still be on the screen and I have to hit the skip button and then the skip back button to get it to update. I also wish that it were possible to display the track number as well as the song titles.

This is a very good unit with only one real flaw. The display cover is very prone to scratches. Other than that issue it's feature rich, includes Garmin NAV (the main reason I bought it), was plug and pay (2006 Mustang). With a PAC SWI-RC I was able to get all the audio and phone/voice buttons working on my 2012 steering wheel. Love the adjustable button back-lighting. A word of warning, the Axxess ASWC-1, which I bough with the radio is not compatible with the DNR476S/10+ Mustang steering wheels controls. I could never get it to auto program properly and manual programming failed 100% of the time.
Pros: Built in NAV BlueTooth Ease of install Lots of features Expandable
Cons: Nature of touchscreen makes it easily susceptible to scratches.

Nice Rig, does all that I was looking for with some of the options below Install was slightly problematic as the unit did not fit my 2011 2500HD. The GPS antenna connector/wire has interference that required me to make a pocket in the plastic at the back of the ash pocket behind the DNR476S for clearance.(Hint I used white grease pencil on the antenna wire and gently pushed the DNR476S into the dash pocket until it interfered and gently moved the unit around, to make a white mark on the black plastic at the interference site, Then drilled some holes and cut the plastic away. Sanded the edges and finished with electrical tape over the edges.). This could be easily solved by changing the GM Dash kit to move the unit about 1/8 of an inch out of the dash. The 90 degree banana plug from the Maestro was a snug fit and plug had to be vertical so as its wire did not get behind the all of the wires coming from the large connector with all of the power, speaker, and control wires.
