2014 4 Runner tailgate location for 6.5" coaxial speakers. 2 of the three mounting holes matched. Third one needed to be drilled to line up. Reason for purchasing these mounts: they actually fit 6.5" speakers. The one that was sent to me originally does not fit 6.5"

Pros: Easy to use Fits 6.5" speaker

Cons: None really, needed to drill the third mounting screw hole.

You will need to figure out your own way to mount the brackets, ill be spending a couple days with no speakers and door panels while i wait till stores are open to grab some hardware. they DO NOT come with fastners or instructions, it has ONLY the plastic brackets. not the end of the world but sure does kinda put a damper on what i thought was a 15 minute job turned multi-day ordeal.. the holes dont line up great either, but that too isnt a big deal with the help of a drill and some creativity.

Pros: cheap

Cons: hole misalignment and no hardware or instructions atleast telling you the size of screws/bolts you need

Good Brackets

Joshua from Oak Ridge, TN on 2/20/2022

2004 Toyota Sequoia

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

These are the better brackets available out there that fit the toyota opening on my sequoia. Other brackets are available elsewhere, but they are not near as thick. Also watch out, there's two different toyota adapters available and one is TOO SMALL! So don't be like me and think they are all the same! These guys ship it all to you for free when you buy your speakers, so what excuse do you have?

Pros: High quality, molding not too thin like some others

Cons: Still not a *perfect fit* and requires an ever so *slight* modification to fit the bolt pattern.

These brackets are a No Brainer. They are a perfect fit for my 2002 Sequoia. Makes installing replacement speakers a breeze. These are needed to space the speaker far enough out to clear the window. The only thing that should be added is foam for the back of the adapter and for the back of the speaker to aide in a vibration free installation. I added window sill foam that I purchased myself.

Pros: Perfect Fit

Cons: No Foam backing

Adapter not very good

Crutchfield customer from New Palestine, IN on 10/11/2021

2006 Toyota Tundra

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

Speakers are very good. The mounting adapters are not very good. I have a 2006 Tundra with the Jbl stereo system(has the midrange speaker beside the woofer at bottom of front doors). The new adapters only accommodate the woofers and you lose the midrange speakers unless you physically modify a combination of the factory adapter and the supplied adapter to fit the new woofer and the factory midrange. The new woofers are not capable of reproducing good midrange so eliminating the midrange speakers makes the system sound poorly so you have to do a lot of work to preserve the midrange. These adapters do not make the installation remotely easy.

Pros: Fit the woofers fine

Cons: Causes loss of midrange speakers if installed per instructions.

Installation needs adaptation

Crutchfield customer from San Juan, PR on 7/5/2021

2004 Toyota Sequoia

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

The Crutchfield supplied Metra 82-8148, and Metra 82-8153 Speaker Mounting Brackets 10mm screw holes did not aligned with any of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia original doors panels screw holes. The four pieces (front and rear) reduce to two footprints types and neither aligned in any of the doors. You could screw in one but the remaining two screw holes are off center. Careful and difficult tweaking was required to modify or drill new holes. Adding insult to injury, the supplied screws to mount the speakers to the brackets are either too long (screw sharp tip protrudes and may scratch the car door mounting location paint) or too thin (threads slips and does not screws in securely, solved by shimming the screw hole with a thin piece of a red plastic straw, see the pictures). The real labor was carefully dismantling the doors panels to reach the speakers locations. Once you are there and find the supplied brackets labeled for 2001-2007 Toyota Sequoia did not matched was disheartening. With a dismantled truck, returning merchandise, waiting for the correct part (if you had others for non JBL Sequoias 2004) and calling Crutchfield for lip service was not an option. I hope to open your eyes to investigate the cause this brackets did not fitted as advertised. With your experience I doubt this is an unusual occurrence.

Pros:

Cons: Despite the labeling the brackets are not correct for a 2004 Toyota Sequoia SR5, not JBL.

2006 Toyota Tundra

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

Used in a 2004 Tundra double cab for the front. The brackets fit with the speakers, but only to get them to fit the Tundra you have to modify the screw holes; the top one we had to drill out to be higher. I've used a handful of metra mounting brackets in the past and this always seems to be the case; some modification is needed to make it fit. These are very hard plastic so you will need a dremel or drill to bore them out.

Pros:

Cons: Requires modification

Used with Kicker 6 3/4" speakers for 2005 Toyota Sequoia front door. Holes do not line up and needed to expand upper hole for all three screws to work. Also, needed to remove inner tabs to allow speaker to fit. Mounted midrange with one screw on top of the woofer after installed. worked well. Poorly matched adapter bracket & speakers.

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Hole centers for this adapter are 6 1/4". The companion speakers ( Rockford Fosgate R1675X2 6-3/4" 2-way Speakers Item #575R1675X2) don't fit with 6 1/2" hole centers. The work around is to clock the speaker a bit & drill new holes in the supplied adapter bracket. Oh, plus a trip the the hardware store for a fist full of #8 machine screws & nuts. A real time burner.

Pros: The bracket was `free`.

Cons: Lots of your time: A time burner to mark-out & drill the adapter + a trip to the hardware store.

Good brackets with alot of options but did need to modify. On my 06 Tundra double cab front speaker had to wallow hole on top hole. Also no instructions so just had to think a little. Did find speaker was not sitting correctly and realized I had to wiggle interior fingers and break them off.

Pros: Don't need to fabricate rings to fit odd size speaker hole. All holes drilled somewhat correctly.

Cons: Doesn't have any documentation to help if something doesn't fit ie interior fingers need do be removed.

Not really right for 1st gen Sequoia with 8 speaker JVC

William from Shingle Springs, CA on 7/1/2019

2003 Toyota Sequoia

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

After my factory front speakers blew out for the second time, I figured it was time to completely replace them instead of repairing again. I didn't want to have to do much research so I went to Crutchfield. If the Toyota Sequoia only had a single 6.5 inch speaker up front then this bracket and the wiring harness that Crutchfield so generously provides would work fine. However, the Sequoia also has a midrange speaker in front to be accounted for because the 6.5" speaker is a woofer and only receives lower frequencies through its designated wire pair. The new 6.5" speakers that I bought along with the mounting bracket and harness installation could work, with the exception of the midrange speaker left dangling because the harness and mount do not account for it. I called tech support and got a technician who told me to simply cut the midrange speaker off because it wasn't necessary since the new speaker was full range. This was bad advice because as soon as I did that, I lost all midrange and the speaker now functioned only as a woofer. I had to splice the midrange speaker wires to reconnect it and had to improvise a mount for it. If this mounting bracket had a place to mount the factory midrange then everything would have worked perfectly. Alternatively if the wiring harness and circuitry could somehow consolidate the original 2 wire pairs (1 pair for woofer and 1 for midrange) into a single pair that carried lows and mids then it would have worked as

Pros: Very responsive customer service.

Cons: Does not accommodate factory midrange speaker, though the midrange speaker is needed for full sound, requiring the purchaser to fabricate a mounting solution for the midrange. Got incorrect advice from Crutchfield tech support .
