Features
Overview: The Garmin Handlebar Controller (010-02974-00) lets you operate your Tread®, Tread® 2, or zūmo® XT2 device without taking your hands off the handlebar grips. The controller features four large buttons for zooming in and out of maps and other actions. It is designed to mount on the handlebar of an ATM, motorcycle, snowmobile, or other motorsports vehicle. The controller is dust- and water-resistant (IP67). Rubber bushings are included to help fit the controller to different sized handlebars.
Button Function: The Handlebar Controller features four large buttons that can be easily operated, even while wearing gloves. In the Handlebar Controller app, built into the device, you can view and configure the actions triggered by each button. You can edit and configure the button functions in the app. The default functions for each button are:
Button | Function | |
---|---|---|
Short Press | Long Press | |
Triangle | Save Current Location | Skip the next destination on the route |
Plus (+) | Zoom In on the map | |
Minus (-) | Zoom Out on the map | |
Circle | Change the map type | Lock or Unlock the screen |
Compatibility: The Handlebar Controller connects to the device via the proprietary Accessory Connector, which is included with some devices. Other devices require an additional accessory purchase. The Handlebar Controller is compatible with the following Garmin devices:
Garmin Device | Compatibility Details |
---|---|
Tread 2 GPS navigator | Included power cable has the Accessory Connector built-in. No additional accessories are required. |
Tread-Overland Edition Tread XL-Overland and Baja Chase Editions | Requires additional purchase of Handlebar Controller and Group Ride Radio Y-Adapter Cable (010-13087-18). Not needed if you previously purchased the Group Ride Radio (6", 8", and 10")(010-13087-05), because it includes the needed Accessory Connector. |
Tread-SxS Edition | Included power cable has the Accessory Connector built-in. No additional accessories are required. |
zūmo XT2 GPS navigator | Requires additional purchase of Group Ride Radio Y-Adapter Cable (010-13285-00) and the High-Current Power Cable (010-13087-01). If you previously purchased the Group Ride Radio (6", 8", and 10"), you may have already purchased these cables, since they are required to use it. |
Installation: The Garmin Handlebar Controller mounts to the handlebar of your motorcycle, ATV, or snowmobile using a hinged clamp. It is recommended that the controller be installed close to the left-side handle of the handlebar, near the grip and within reach of your thumb. In the box are three rubber bushings of varying thickness to fit the controller to different sizes of handlebars. The thickest bushing is for use on handlebars with a 7/8" (22 mm) diameter. The mid-sized bushing is used for 1" (25 mm) diameter handlebars. The thin bushing works for 1-1/4" (32 mm) diameter handlebars. Once the clamp has been closed, it is fastened with the provided hex socket-head screw and 2.5 mm hex wrench.
Connection: The Handlebar Controller has an attached 30" cable with a built-in Y-Adapter. One end of the Y has the Accessory Connector plug (male), while the other end has an Accessory Connector socket (female). The male Accessory Connector plug connects into the Tread/zūmo device's power cable. The female Accessory Connector socket is used only in installations with a Group Ride Radio accessory.
