Product Research

Features

Overview: The Garmin BC 50 with Night Vision wireless backup camera (010-02610-00) works with select Garmin GPS navigators to provide a clear view behind your vehicle as you attempt to back up. NightGlo technology illuminates the area directly behind your vehicle at night to allow you to see what's behind you in the dark. A backup camera helps you easily spot vehicles, pedestrians, pets, and other hard-to-see obstructions behind your vehicle to minimize the risk of "blind zone" accidents whenever your vehicle is moving in reverse. On-screen guidance lines help you more easily gauge the distance to obstacles in view. The camera connects to a Wi-Fi transmitter, which wirelessly transmits the camera footage directly to the compatible navigation device up to 50 feet away. This long range makes the BC 50 with Night Vision ideal for longer vehicles, such as RVs, trucks, and trailers. The camera mounts to your vehicle with one of the included brackets, or via strong 3M VHB adhesive. Camera Dimensions (w/o bracket): Width 1.712", Height 0.873", Depth 1.028".

Compatibility: The BC 50 with Night Vision works with select Garmin portable navigation devices. Some navigation devices may not support the camera without the latest software, so you should update your device prior to pairing with the camera. The BC 50 with Night Vision is only compatible with the following Garmin devices (sold separately)(as of July 2022):

NightGlo Technology: The BC 50 with Night Vision is equipped with infrared (IR) LEDs to light up the dark when reversing at night. NightGlo technology lets you see up to 20 feet behind your vehicle, even in total darkness. This is especially helpful when the camera is mounted to a trailer that doesn't have backup lights, or is beyond the effectiveness of your vehicle's backup lights.

Power Requirements: The BC 50 with Night Vision is powered by 12V or 24V power and ground from your vehicle. The recommended method of connecting the camera to power is via the vehicle's backup light circuit, which powers the camera when the vehicle is in reverse gear. Two solderless wire-splice connectors are included for this purpose. If you do not want to splice into the wiring of your vehicle, you can connect the transmitter and camera to a 12-volt DC battery.

Camera View: The Garmin BC 50 with Night Vision backup camera offers a 160° wide-angle view, allowing you to clearly see behind your vehicle. The camera's resolution is up to 720p (with a compatible Garmin navigator) with a frame rate of up to 30 fps. Depending on the placement of the camera, the video on your device may appear upside down or mirrored by default. In the navigation device's menu, you can rotate the video horizontally or flip the video vertically to correct the video.

Wireless Operation: The BC 50 with Night Vision wirelessly transmits a clear video image up to 50 feet away (transmitter to navigation device) via 2.4GHz wireless protocol. When the camera is powered on, the transmitter automatically pairs with the compatible navigation device within range. You can pair up to four compatible Garmin wireless cameras to a single compatible Garmin device. The device lets you cycle through each camera view. If you already have paired four cameras with your device, you must remove a paired camera before pairing a new one. With some navigation devices, you can show or hide the camera view using voice commands, such as "Show Video" or "Hide Video."

Guidance Lines: Guidance lines are provided to assist you in backing up your vehicle and parking. When setting up the camera, you can adjust the lines left or right, and up or down so they reflect the outside edges of the vehicle. If you change the camera angle, you should immediately realign the guidance lines.

Camera Updates: Periodic updates to the camera software are available from Garmin. Software updates are received automatically from the paired Garmin navigation device. The software of both the navigation device and the camera should be updated regularly to keep both up to date. The software version of the camera can be checked on the display of the paired device.

Construction: The BC 50 with Night Vision camera is designed to withstand harsh conditions. It has an IP67 waterproof rating (IEC 60529), and can withstand incidental immersion in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. The connections and fuses must be waterproofed or stay above the water line. The recommended operating temperature range is -4° to 140°F (-20° to +60°C).

Mounting Options: The Garmin BC 50 with Night Vision can be mounted in a variety of ways. Options for mounting the camera components are as follows:

  • Camera Mounting: Out of the box, the camera is mounted to a clip-on license plate bracket. A second bracket is included that lets you mount the camera directly to the surface of your vehicle. You can mount this bracket via 3M VHB (Very High Bond) adhesive pad or two self-tapping screws, which are included for securing the bracket. On the side of the camera are two hex screws for adjusting the camera angle, or attaching the camera to either bracket. The camera cable can be routed inside the vehicle through a small diameter hole (6.5mm-7mm).
  • Transmitter: The transmitter broadcasts the wireless signal from its front and back surfaces, therefore, it should be mounted with the flat surface facing the Garmin navigation device. The transmitter should be mounted away from dense metal objects or appliances, which greatly reduces the transmission range. The transmitter has an attached 3M VHB adhesive pad for attaching the transmitter to your vehicle. There are also two screw holes for mounting the transmitter with self-tapping screws (not included). The attached harness needs to be connected to power and ground (to the vehicle's backup light circuit or other switched 12V-24V DC power source), and to the camera cable. There is enough camera cable included to mount the transmitter up to 9.8 feet from the camera. With the optional Garmin Extension Cable (sold separately), you can extend the camera cable by an additional 50 feet, extending the camera's transmission range up to 100'.
