About the Garmin DriveCam™ 76
Guidance for your travels...
Guidance for your travels...
There's very little room for error on the road, whether you're following directions or trying to avoid collisions. Garmin's DriveCam 76 GPS navigator puts the info you need right in front of you with an eye-friendly 6.95" screen. Garmin also includes built-in Wi-Fi® plus free map and traffic updates for the life of the navigator, so you'll stay current no matter where you roam.
...and a handy dash cam
Thanks to an integrated HD video camera, you'll have a continuous video record of everything that happens on the road before you. Garmin incorporates a G-sensor to automatically save vital footage in the event of a collision, and optional GPS tagging stamps the video with your location, speed, date and time for the most accurate presentation possible. You can easily remove the DriveCam 76 from its mount so you can take high-res photos of any damage done. Garmin includes a 16 GB microSD™ card, but the DriveCam 76 accepts up to a 256 GB microSD card for big-time storage.
The Garmin Drive smartphone app (more on that below) also lets you view your camera footage right on your phone, so you can see what happened without having to access the DriveCam. It also provides access to Garmin's secure digital Vault, which stores your footage in the cloud so you can access them days or weeks down the road if needed. Many of the Drive's app's features are free of charge, but Garmin's Vault service requires a monthly subscription fee.
See it all on a generous screen
The sharp 6.95" pinch-to-zoom display gives you easy access to preloaded maps of the U.S., Canada, and much of Mexico, plus Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. 3-D representations of buildings, landmarks, and terrain help you get your bearings. Active Lane Guidance shows you colored arrows for the correct lane for an upcoming turn, and you'll see realistic depictions of some interchanges with road signs. You can hit the road without using your hands by using your voice — simply speak one of its recognizable commands and it'll get started.
As it also gives you an eye on the road ahead, you'll hear an audible Forward Collision warning if you approach a car too rapidly, and a Lane Departure warning if you veer from your lane. And thanks to built-in GPS, the DriveCam 76 even detects speed and red light cameras on the horizon and gives you a heads up.
The Garmin Drive app provides traffic info and more
Pair the DriveCam with your smartphone and you can take advantage of all the tools in the free Garmin Drive app, including:
- Live traffic, weather, and fuel prices
- Video from photoLive traffic cameras
- Smart notifications from your smartphone
- Access to the Garmin Vault secure online storage platform for your videos (accessible via Wi-Fi connection)
Garmin's Incident Detection feature uses a built-in G-Sensor to detect hard braking or a collision, and then saves vital video files for a complete record of the event. Built-in GPS geo-tags your files with latitude, longitude, date, time, speed, and direction of travel to provide a more complete presentation.
Get a heads-up for different scenarios
The DriveCam delivers GPS-based alerts for upcoming sharp curves, school zones, red-light and speed cameras, railroad and animal crossings, and more. The navigator will tell you when there's a change in the posted speed limit on major roads and give you a visual warning if you're exceeding it. It can also tell you if you're going the wrong way down a one-way street.
This Garmin's also compatible with the optional Garmin BC 50 wireless rear-view camera so you can add an extra layer of safety when you're backing out of your driveway.
Foursquare® and Tripadvisor® points of interest, plus national parks
Foursquare's crowd-sourced database of points of interest gives you a whole new take on where to stop for gas, food, lodging, or shopping. You'll see the most relevant Foursquare results at the top of the search bar, so you'll know the destination is verified by actual users. Paired with the Garmin Drive app, you'll also see helpful info such as ratings, hours, and price range displayed on the navigator's screen. And if you're a Foursquare user yourself, you can check in nearly anywhere through the navigator when it's paired with your phone.
DriveCam also includes Tripadvisor ratings for hotels, restaurants, and attractions which are provided by fellow travelers to this popular platform. It also features a database of American national parks, so you can find visitor centers, picnic areas, campgrounds, and more with ease.
Built-in Bluetooth connectivity allows you to conduct calls hands-free with your compatible phone. Most points of interest in Garmin's database include phone numbers, so you can call ahead with one tap of the screen to make reservations at hotels or restaurants. The DriveCam can also show you incoming text messages and notifications on its screen.
Easy updates via Wi-Fi
Nobody wants to hook their navigator up to their computer when it's time to get a map update or other software change. The DriveCam features built-in Wi-Fi connectivity so you can perform updates from your vehicle, so long as you're parked near a Wi-Fi hotspot. Or bring your navigator inside a nearby establishment with a Wi-Fi network and update while you're eating dinner, having coffee, or sleeping.

Points of Interest: The built-in maps include millions of Points of Interest (POIs) from the vast Foursquare® database, such as hotels, restaurants, gas stations, attractions, and ATMs. With the help of TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel site, you can view ratings for many of your destinations. The device includes detailed information for national parks in the United States, including features and amenities available inside the park.
Active Lane Guidance: Active Lane Guidance with voice prompts lets you know in advance which lane you should to be in to make an upcoming turn. In select metropolitan areas, the DriveCam 76 will enter split screen mode to display the Junction View, a realistic depiction of the junction, complete with road signs and brightly-colored arrows to indicate the proper lane for navigation.
Map View Options: You can choose from a 3D map view or two 2D map views (Track Up or North Up) as you navigate to your destination.
Speed Limits: As you travel along a major road or street, the speed limit is displayed on the screen alongside of the vehicle's speed display. If you are exceeding the speed limit, a tone will sound, and the color of the vehicle speed indication will change to red. If the highway's posted speed limit has changed since the last map update, you can change the speed limit display on the unit.
Where Am I?: The "Where Am I?" feature gives you instant access to important information in case of an emergency. When you touch the vehicle icon on the map screen, the "Where Am I?" feature provides the coordinates (including elevation) of your current position, plus the nearest address and intersections. There are also buttons to help you locate the nearest hospitals, police stations, gas stations, and roadside assistance. You can also save the location for future reference.
Up Ahead: As you travel along your route, the Up Ahead feature constantly indicates the location of nearby businesses, including gas, food, lodging, restrooms, parking, and banks and ATMs. The locations are shown as icons, some with brand logos, and when the icons are touched on the screen, details of the services are displayed, and you are given the opportunity to navigate to that address.

The unit's memory stores the last 50 locations you have found so you can quickly find a previous destination.
Trip Data: A shortcut on the map screen leads you to the Trip Data page. At a glance, you can see your direction of travel, elevation, two trip odometers (A & B), your average speed, as well as your moving average speed, the total time spent stopped, and the time of sunset or sunrise. Digging deeper into the page, you can view your maximum speed, total moving time, total trip time, the coordinates of your current location, and the GPS accuracy (in feet).
Trip Log: The device keeps a Trip Log, which is a record of the path you have traveled. The Travel History setting must be enabled in order for the Trip Log feature to function.
GPS Simulator: When indoors, you can activate the built-in GPS simulator and practice using the unit. This turns off the GPS receiver so it's not searching for satellites, saving battery power.
