Shure's second-generation AONIC 215 true-wireless earbuds feature a cable-free, sweat-proof design for listening on the go. They also deliver the company's legendary pro-grade sound. Music professionals and headphone enthusiasts will certainly recognize the spacious sound and secure fit.
That's because Shure started with their classic SE215 in-ear monitors — used in music creation and appreciation for years. Next, they added their cutting-edge RMCE-TW2 true wireless secure fit adapter.
Higher-quality streaming
The adapter consists of separate left and right earpiece attachments that communicate wirelessly, with no connecting cable between them. It uses Bluetooth 5.0, a newer version of the wireless technology, which offers a stronger, more reliable connection. This adapter also features aptX® coding for improved sound quality with devices that support this advanced wireless audio codec.
Eliminate noise — the old-fashioned way
If you've never worn Shure earphones before, the first time can be startling. It gets really quiet. When I put them on in my home office, all the usual distractions just disappear.
Unlike noise-canceling headphones that pump in subtle phase-canceling signals to neutralize external sound, Shure in-ears make a tight seal that just blocks it all out. It's a super-effective approach that reduces outside sound by a whopping 37dB, to be exact.
My listening impressions: spacious and detailed with potent bass
I've always been struck by how spread out everything sounds through Shure in-ear monitors. Because they fit inside my ears, my brain was telling me to expect a concentrated, between-the-ears soundstage. Instead, Kasami Washington's sprawling jazz-funk song "Truth" practically enveloped my head. I'm talking aImost 360 degrees!
Shure's sound signature is usually pretty neutral. They make headphones for professional recording and performing, after all. But these headphones are more bass-focused, which I actually appreciated.
The slight low-end lift added a fun yet taut energy to the more straight-forward, focused track "Fire" by Waxahatchee. Katie Crutchfield's gentle voice sat perfectly above the simple, twangy guitar riff. Welcome nuances like the tap of a hi-hat or the errant press of an organ key all occupied their own distinct place in the mix. But they never distract from the urgency of the vocals or intimacy of the space.
Music, calls, and quick awareness
There are tactile buttons on both the left and right adapter for controlling music, calls, and volume. You can make and take phone calls through a single earbud or both. And a quick touch of the button on the left earbud turns on "Environment Mode," which pauses the music and makes it easier to hear external voices and sounds.

Overview: The Shure AONIC 215 True Wireless Sound Isolating™ Earphones Gen 2 combine the classic SE215 in-ear headphones with the new RMCE-TW2 True Wireless Secure Fit Adapters. The Sound Isolating™ Earphones deliver crystal clear, spacious sound with rich bass. The adapters bring Bluetooth 5.0 wireless performance and the power for 8 hours of uninterrupted audio. The adapters wrap comfortably around your ears to keep the ear buds securely in your ears for superior sound isolation and audio performance. The AONIC 215s come with a hard-shell charging case, a USB-C charging cable, and six pairs of ear tips for best fit and sound isolation.
Drivers: The AONIC 215 earphones are equipped with a single dynamic MicroDriver to provide clear, studio quality sound with deep bass. The earphones have a distinctly tuned frequency response for extended bass. Shure's Sound Isolating™ technology blocks up to 37dB of external noise and distractions to give you an immersive listening experience. The earphones include three pairs (Small, Medium, Large) of Foam ear sleeves and three pairs (S, M, L) of Soft Flex sleeves. The foam ear sleeves compress between your fingers as you insert them into your ear canal, then expand to provide an soundproof seal. The Soft Flex sleeves are made of silicone for a secure, comfortable fit for hours of enjoyment.
Sweat and Water Resistant: The AONIC 215 Gen 2 can be used without worry while you work out. They are IPX4 rated for sweat and water resistance, and will hold up during rigorous workouts.
Cleaning Tool: In-ear headphones require cleaning from time to time to maintain sound quality. When the earphone nozzle becomes blocked, the sound quality deteriorates. The obstruction can be removed with the included wire loop cleaning tool. The length of the wire loop is customized to allow the tool to reach into the nozzle without damaging the sound filter inside.
RMCE-TW2: This Gen 2 AONIC 215 includes the RMCE-TW2 True Wireless Secure Fit Adapters that turn the ear buds into a True Wireless experience. Not only do the adapters provide a secure, over-ear fit similar to professional in-ear monitors, but each one features a Bluetooth 5.0 receiver with playback control, a premium headphone amplifier, and a rechargeable battery for hours of listening. Each adapter has a large, outward-facing button for music playback and phone call control. The RMCE-TW2 attaches to the ear buds via its MMCX connection. If desired, you can detach the adapter from the AONIC 215 and use it with any Shure SE-series earphone with the MMCX connection.
Bluetooth 5.0: The Secure Fit Adapters adapters have Bluetooth 5.0 technology, and supports SBC, aptX, and AAC codecs. The adapters work at a range of approximately 30 feet from your source. The control button on the outside of each adapter allows you control the following functions: Power On, Power Off, Pair Bluetooth, Volume Up, Volume Down, Mute, Unmute, Play/pause, Answer/end call, Decline call, Environment Mode On/off, and Activate Voice Assistant (Siri or Google Assistant, based on your smartphone).
Environment Mode: The Environment Mode helps you to keep aware of your surroundings by accentuating the ambient noise around you. The mode uses the microphones built into the Secure Fit Adapters to pick up sounds around you, so you can carry on a conversation, hear public announcements, or maintain awareness of your surroundings, without having to remove your earphones. You can toggle Environment Mode on or off by double pressing the control button on either adapter. In the ShurePlus PLAY app, you can toggle the feature and adjust the Environment Mode across 10 levels.
ShurePlus™ PLAY App: The ShurePlus™ PLAY app is a mobile high-res audio player with an advanced parametric EQ for use with the AONIC 215 True Wireless earphones. The music tab lets you play compressed and uncompressed audio files with your iOS or Android mobile device, supporting most audio formats up to 384kHz (iOS) or 352kHz (Android). With an iOS device you can add music to your device using iTunes, AirDrop, Apple Music, or other apps that support file sharing. On an Android device, you can add music using various File Sharing or other audio apps. ShurePlus™ PLAY offers a 31-band parametric equalizer with a gain of +/-10dB (0.1dB increments) and a bandwidth of 0.2 to 4.0 octaves (0.1 octave increments). Custom EQ curves can be named and saved, if desired. There are 5 presets to choose from: De-ess (to reduce sibilance in speech), Flat (no equalization), Loudness (accentuates bass and treble for better sound at low volumes), Low Boost (raise or lower bass frequencies), and Vocal Boost (emphasizes the vocal range). You can duplicate one of the presets, and adjust and save it to suit your personal listening preferences. The Hardware EQ feature saves the selected EQ settings to your earphones, so the sound settings don't change even when you pair the earphones to a different device. Any firmware updates for the Secure Fit Adapters are transmitted through the app. The ShurePlus™ PLAY app is available from the Apple App Store for iOS devices with version 13.0 or later, and from Google Play for Android devices with version 8.0 and up.
Charging Case: The AONIC 215 True Wireless earphones Gen 2 come with the RMCE-TW1 black hard-shell charging case with its own built-in 3.7-volt 750mAh (2.775Wh) rechargeable battery. The Secure Fit Adapters charge when placed in the charging case. The charging case recharges when it is plugged into a USB power port via the included USB-C charging cable (Input: 5V, 0.5A). The Secure Fit Adapters provide up to 8 hours of battery life on a single charge (while playing AAC files). The Charging Case provides enough power for three additional charges for a total of up to 32 hours of playback. The case has an LED on its lid to indicate the charging status of the inserted adapters (red-charging; green-charging complete). I had buyer's remorse because of the cost. But after i heard them for the first time, I'm impressed. They are so clear i don't have to turn the volume up very high to enjoy the music. So worth the extra money!
