About the Kicker 46CXA1200.1T

Buck Pomerantz

High-level bass power

Do you like your bass loud? Kicker's CXA1200.1T mono subwoofer amplifier can put out up to 1,200 watts RMS, so your sub will really push some air. The quality of the bass tone matters as much as the volume, so a variable low-pass filter helps get maximum performance from your sub/enclosure combination, and a fixed subsonic filter removes the extreme low resonances that cause distortion. A variable bass boost allows you to add some extra low-end punch if you want.  An optional wired remote lets you conveniently adjust the bass level from your front seat.

Hooks in almost anywhere in almost any position

This amplifier works with 1-ohm loads, so you won't have to worry too much about matching impedances when you add a second or third sub to your system. Kicker's Fail-Safe Integration Technology (FIT™) keeps this amp's input free from noise or interference, so you can tap into your vehicle's speaker wiring for an input signal without a worry. A 3-second turn-on/turn-off delay eliminates system pops and other noises. The CXA1200.1T comes with hardware that lets you mount it vertically, so you can put it in a location that takes up very little floor space and looks cool too.

Note: This amplifier can draw large amounts of current (up to as much as 100 amps), so you may have to upgrade the electrical system in your vehicle in order to effectively power the amp.

Features

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output. The criteria for measuring amplifier power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4-ohms. CEA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).

CEA-2006 Specifications:

  • Power Output: 600 watts RMS x 1 into 4-ohms
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 70 dBA (measured at 1 watt into 4-ohms)

Other Specifications:

  • Power Output:
    • 2-ohms: 1200 watts RMS x 1 (14.4 volts, =1.0% THD+N)
    • 1-ohms: 1200 watts RMS x 1 (14.4 volts, =1.0% THD+N)
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 95 dB (at rated power output)

Controls:

  • Input Level: 2-position switch; select high (speaker-level) or low (line-level)
  • Input Gain Control: rotary input Gain control; continuously variable from 250mV to 10V with the input level switch set to low; 1V to 40V with the input level switch set to high
  • Crossover Frequency: continuously variable rotary dial; set the low pass crossover point between 50Hz and 200Hz; the crossover slope is 12 dB/octave
  • KickEQ Bass Boost: increase the bass level between 0dB and +6dB via the rotary control; centered at 40Hz

Subsonic Filter: The amplifier features a non-defeatable 25Hz Subsonic Filter with a 24dB/octave slope. The Subsonic Filter rolls off extremely low frequencies that can't be cleanly reproduced by the amplifier and subwoofers. This reduces distortion and helps the amp run more efficiently.

Mounting: The efficient Class-D Kicker CX Series amplifiers can be mounted vertically, if desired, with the included mounting brackets. When mounted vertically, the dimensions are:

  • Height: 6?"
  • Length: 12?"
  • Width: 2?"

Auto Turn-on: The amplifier has two methods of turning on: +12V and DC Offset. The preferred method is to run an 18-gauge wire from the remote turn-on lead of the source unit to the Remote (REM) terminal on the amp. When a +12V signal is detected on the wire, the amplifier will turn on. If your source unit lacks a remote turn-on lead (a factory head unit, for example), you can choose to turn on the amplifier via the DC Offset method. When a DC offset is detected (>2.5 volts) on the speaker-level inputs, the amplifier automatically turns on.

Wire Connections: The CXA1200.1 has set screw terminals for power, ground, and turn-on (REM). The power and ground terminals will accept up to 4-gauge wire (recommended), and the turn-on lead will accept up to 8-gauge (18-gauge recommended). The set screws are loosened/tightened with the supplied 3mm Allen wrench. The speaker outputs are slotted, screw-down terminals, which will accommodate bare wire or spade connectors. The speaker slots are 0.335" wide.

External Fuse: The amplifier does not include a built-in fuse, therefore an external fuse should be placed on the power wire, within 18" of the battery. It is recommended that a 4-gauge amplifier wiring kit and a 100-amp external fuse be used when installing the amplifier.

Input Signal: The CXA1200.1 accepts either high (speaker-level) or low (line-level) input signals on the RCA inputs, selectable using the input level switch on the end of the amp. When using a speaker-level input signal, add the optional Kicker KiSL speaker-level to RCA adapter. The input sensitivity is 250mV-10V (low) or 1V-40V (high).

Preamp Output: Using either a speaker-level or line-level input feeds the stereo RCA output, which passes the audio signal to another amplifier or component. This allows you to daisy-chain another amplifier without having to run RCA cables from the head unit to the second amp.

Optional Wired Remote: The optional CXART remote bass level control can be added to remotely control the output level of the amplifier. The CXART's control knob can be mounted near the driver's seat, and the control's cable extended to the amplifier location.

Certified Power: Each amplifier is tested when it comes off of the assembly line. Tests are run for Total Harmonic Distortion, Signal-to-Noise Ratio, Protection Circuit, and Total Power Output. A Certified Power certificate with model and serial number is included with each amp with the measured power output figure, and a pass/fail grade for the other tests.

Q
Will this work with Alpine R2-W12D2?
[ Isaac  Apr 15, 2023 ]
1 answer
A
Greetings Isaac, and thank you for your question. Please contact one of our advisors at 800-324-9695 and discuss which amplifier would be the best option for you.
[ THOMAS  Apr 15, 2023 ]  Staff
Q
If I'm planning on using one 12" sub and running the Amp at 2 ohms what the best sub options? Thank you
[ Darnell  Mar 31, 2023 ]
1 answer
A
I would be happy to set you up, Darnell. We want to use a single subwoofer that can handle the 1200-watts at 2-ohms reliably, with exceptional bass impact and performance. I would use the 44L7S154 Solo-Baric in a sealed box with roughly 3-3.5 cubic feet if you can. The 44L7S154, CXA1200.1T, and Kicker wiring kit are all in the link below! https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rXYEc222/cart/EmailCart.aspx?emKey=3110025

Q
Will this work with 2 Kicker 44L7S102?
[ Isaac  Jan 20, 2023 ]
1 answer
A
This pairing would work. Two of the 44L7S102 could be wired together to present the amplifier with a total 2-ohm impedance. The 46CXA1200.1T outputs 1200w RMS when present with a 2-ohm impedance, which would be the perfect amount of power for two of these subs.

Q
I have a fully enclosed box for two 12 Kicker Comp R's that I'm wanting to set up. Would this amp be ideal for that?
[ Cole  Jan 07, 2023 ]
1 answer
A
This amplifier would technically be more powerful with 1200W output than the subs are rated to handle. For help with selecting the best amplifier for the job, please reach out to our advisors via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

Q
Is it that much difference between a skar 1200.1 than the kicker 1200.1t?
[ david  Oct 11, 2022 ]
1 answer
A
That really depends a lot on how you are going to use the amp, David. The Skar amps deliver majorly in the bang for the buck category, but the Kicker will edge it out in a couple of ways. Most folks get amps like these to drive large low impedance subs or multiple subs that also wire to a low impedance. If you are planning a system around the 1 ohm number the Kicker may be the better call. It is more reliable when pushing a 1 ohm load, and also has less distortion than the Skar at that impedance/wattage. If you are just looking for the most possible SPL generated from your subs for the lowest buy in, Skar is hard to beat. If you are looking for a little more sound quality and similar wattage performance, and something that will last longer running hard the Kicker is the go to option!

Q
What is the best amp for Subwoofer boxes Kicker 44DL7S122?
[ JOHN  Sep 15, 2022 ]
1 answer
A
One of the best mono amps we have for the Kicker 44DL7S122 subs is the Rockford Fosgate T1500-1bdCP https://www.crutchfield.com/p_57515001CP/Rockford-Fosgate-T1500-1bdCP.html?tp=35834. The subs can handle up to 1500 watts rms at 2 ohms and this Rockford Fosgate amp outputs exactly 1500 watts rms at 2 ohms to power the subs to their fullest potential. The amp features preamp inputs only, so if you're using a stock radio you'll need a line output converter to connect this to your stock radio. The amp also requires a 4 gauge amplifier wiring kit which you'll find under the accessories tab.

Q
Would the kicker 12 inch down firing compact speaker with radiator work good wirh this?
[ Ricky  Aug 08, 2022 ]
1 answer
A
Greetings Ricky, and thank you for your question. The Kicker 46CXA1200.1T is a bit much for the down firing 12 with radiator. The amp will put out 1200, and the sub is rated for 600. A better option is the Kicker CXA800.1T. That will do the 600 watts at 2 ohms.

Q
amp gets hot in a short period of time. running 4 10" W0s. Didnt used to do it before. had it about 6 months and just started noticing it. what do you think is going on?
[ JOHNNY  Apr 20, 2022 ]
2 answers
A
Hi jbthree, amps get hot. It's normal. As long as the thermal protection circuit is not kicking the amp off its fine. You've got one of the best amps made. It will protect itself. 4 10s so You've got it down to 1 ohm. It's gonna get hot. As long as it's not boxed in so air can't get to it it'll be fine. Crank it!
[ Jeffrey  Apr 26, 2022 ]
A
Ensure it's mounted in a well ventilated area. Thick insulated power and ground 0ga OFC shouldn't get too hot. Is that what you're using?

Q
Is the 46CXCA1200.1T kicker amp to much power for 3 10" W0 JL Subs?
[ JOHNNY  Mar 03, 2022 ]
1 answer
A
The power rating would be adequate, however 3 4ohm subs would not be ideal for this amplifier.
[ Bradlee  Mar 03, 2022 ]
Q
How would I wire up (1) Kicker 46CXA1200.1T amp with (2) Alpine S-W10D2 subs?
[ DANIEL  Jan 15, 2022 ]
1 answer
A
Jumpers: Included with the woofer are two voice coil terminal jumpers. These jumpers allow you to easily wire the voice coils in parallel (for a 1O load) or series (for a 4O load). It looks like you would have to jump each subwoofers voice coils in series, and than run the 2 subs in parallel to the amplifier.
[ Bradlee  Jan 15, 2022 ]
Q
So I have the cx1200.1 mono Kicker amp hooked to 2 12" 2000w NVXs now and bout to get either a 12" deaf bonce apoca 4000w d1/d2 or American bass somewhere round the same wattage how is that 3rd one gone sound wit them 2 nvxs. Is that amp gon be able to push all 3 or move up to the cx1800?
[ Keshaun  Nov 27, 2021 ]
1 answer
A
Sounds to me like you need much stronger amp, the cx1200.1 is rated good for a maximum of 1,200 watts. Your speakers sound like they are designed for a much higher level of wattage than this amp provides.
[ Bradlee  Nov 27, 2021 ]
Q
Can this amp handle 2 kicker compvx 10" dual 4 ohm wired down to 1 ohm?
[ MERLE J  Mar 08, 2021 ]
2 answers

Yes it can. Down crank the bass to loud or you could blow your subs. Do a little research about your subs and the amp i.e. max rms and max wattage
[ Donald  Mar 09, 2021 ]
A
It handles my 2 COMP R 12s bridged down to 1 ohm just fine
[ GREGORY  Mar 09, 2021 ]

Im looking to purchase this amp but question i have is will it be to powerfull or to weak for a q class l7 10 sub 2olm? Please let me know before i purchase this.
[ OMAR  Nov 26, 2020 ]
2 answers
A
Depends on how many watts your sub have, if your sub is less than 1200 watts, then it'll be to powerful for your sub
[ CHRIS  Nov 27, 2020 ]
A
An L7S 10" square is only 600 watt rms i believe. This amp is 1200 watt rms so so it's double what you need. I used to have the kicker 600 watt rms on an L7s 10" square and I thought it was perfect. Add an LC2i to it for Max results.

This amp pushes so hard. I have 2, 12 In a 4 Runner. I can't turn the power on the amp past 50% with people in the car. It spoiled me. But your speaker is 5 ohms coils. Make to try to wire it to almost a short. Then the amp kicks 1500w. also make sure you have a good battery and a good alternator. Run big cable

A
I love this amplifier, it's more than enough power that I need. This amplifier paired with my Comp R 2 12 inch sub box are a match made in heaven. I would recommend both these products they are top quality.
[ JOSHUA  May 14, 2020 ]
Q
Is it safe to bridge this amp?
[ Jonathan  Apr 08, 2020 ]

Q
Is the "Big 3" necessary for the 1200.1 Kicker Amp? Where is the line when you need performance altinator/battery for your sound system?
[ Robert  Mar 12, 2020 ]
6 answers
A
it all depends on the vehicle you usually don't need a big three but I can tell you on my 99 4Runner the alternator did not produce enough amps to supply the audio amplifier at max volume. So I went big five with a Cadillac alternator
[ JEREMY  Sep 24, 2020 ]
A
It will depend on the vehicle but "necessary" is probably a strong word. It is likely recommended for optimal performance. I have a second battery under the hood to power it. I'm running a Kicker 800 as well.. Haven't upgraded the alternator yet, but it is in my plans..
[ corey  Apr 15, 2020 ]
A
No
[ Garrett  Apr 15, 2020 ]
A
Yes alone with a capacitor or you could jus get another alternator wit more amps
[ CEDRIC  Apr 15, 2020 ]
A
Big 3 isn't needed but I do recommend it. Should have a second battery installed so you do not "starve" your amp. My oem alt is 150 amps and with a 2nd battery, I only have slight deeps. Maybe .7 if I really play it loud. Every car is different and this particular amp might be the cut off before you will definitely need to upgrade your electrical.
[ DARNELL  Apr 15, 2020 ]
Q
What wiring kit will I need for this, I will be powering KICKER - CompR Dual 12" Dual-Voice-Coil 2-Ohm Subwoofers?
[ Lando102  Dec 03, 2019 ]
2 answers
A
Depends on how long the run is. I always run 0 pure Cooper welding cable cable. Room to add on the circuit. GROUND well
[ JEREMY  Sep 24, 2020 ]
A
A 4 gauge kit would be appropriate for that amp. Here is a complete Kicker wiring kit that includes RCA cables and speaker wire https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c290/p_20646CK4/Kicker-46CK4.html
