Features

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2Ω voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1Ω load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4Ω load.

Cooling: Kicker engineers developed a Forced Air Cooling system, using the motor structure to pull air across the voice coils, helping the sub run up to 25% cooler than the previous model.

Sealed Enclosures: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Kicker recommends sealed enclosures from 0.4 ft³ to 1.0 ft³.

Vented Enclosures: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from a given amount of power. Kicker recommends ported enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 0.8 ft³ with an 8" x 1½" x 20¾" slot port
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 1.2 ft³ with an 8" x 2" x 19⅛" slot port

The Kicker 48CWR82 replaces these items:

Q
I want to try these 8inch subs in my stocked harley bags. Do my stock bags have enough air space to get some low base. The bags are 4 inc wide. Thanks waiting on response?
david  Mar 29, 2025
1 answer
A
Greetings David. Thank you for your question, but unfortunately we are not going to have the cubic feet of air space in your saddle bags. You can get a good enough estimate by multiplying the length in inches x the width in inches x the height in inches, then divide by 1,728. These subwoofers are looking for 0.4-1.0 cubic feet in a sealed box.

Q
If I bought two of these subs what spec would I need on my amp to match them?
bryson  Feb 24, 2025
1 answer
A
Greetings Bryson. These subs are rated for 300 RMS watts each, two of these would be wired to present a 2 ohm load to the amplifier, so you would want the amplifier to have 600 RMS watts at that 2 ohm load. The link below would be the perfect amplifier. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20646CX81T/Kicker-46CXA800-1T.html?tp=35834

Q
I have two cwr 8 inch 2ohm subs wondering if my 4000 watt blaupunkt d class amp would be too much for the speakers?
jeffrey  Jan 26, 2025
1 answer
A
Hey Jeffrey, looking at the specs on that amp, assuming it performs at the numbers stated, it would appear to have more power than what a couple of Kickers are rated to handle. If you want to look at an amp that is designed to push those, I would consider Kickers matching amp for them: https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c402/p_20646CX81T/Kicker-46CXA800-1T.html?tp=35834

Q
Will it fit in my 2016 mdx?
aaron  Dec 15, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Aaron, based on the measurements we have on file, we do not show it working for that location due to being about an inch too deep for the spot. We have advisors who can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 that can help recommend the best sub for your goals.

Q
Will this sub fit my 2008 Toyota Avalon with JBL Synthesis system? Will the stock amp be able to power the sub and it sound good?
brad  Dec 01, 2024
1 answer
A
For the best performance using the Kicker 48CWR82 an aftermarket amp is required, Brad. You can power the Kicker subwoofer from the factory amplifier with roughly the same volume as the factory subwoofer if you choose. You will want to choose the Kicker 48CWR84 dual 4-ohm coil subwoofer in the link below if that is your plan so you can wire the coils in parallel to match the factory single-coil subwoofer's 2-ohm impedance. These speakers are not an exact match for your vehicle's speaker openings. You'll need to fabricate a mounting bracket or spacer, and we use the Metra 12"x12" heavy-duty ABS sheet in the second link below for custom brackets with great results! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20648CR84/Kicker-48CWR84.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120ABS316/Metra-ABS316.html

Q
I have a 2008 jeep JK . the old sub has 2 electrical connectors . how would I wire it in ?
craig  Nov 13, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Craig. Thank you for your question. This subwoofer needs more power than the factory amplifier has to offer. Preferably you would be wiring this to an aftermarket amplifier. If your factory subwoofer is blown, you could install this, but your bass will be the same it was before without a better amp to run it. Each connector on the factory plugs have a positive wire and a negative wire, just like the terminals on this sub. You would have to cut off those factory plugs.

Q
Will this subwoofer be compatible to replace my factory sub in my 2014 Kia soul? I have a push to start model!
jaycie  Oct 01, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Jaycie. Thank you for your question. Not much can fit in the 17 Soul factory subwoofer enclosure. The Kicker is a dual 2 ohm voice coil like the factory subwoofer, but its too deep. Even if you could modify to fit, the factory amplifier would be too weak to power this subwoofer properly. If you will install an aftermarket amplifier to run the subwoofer, and want a subwoofer that can actually fit, the Pioneer below will fit the 2014 Soul. It is 4 ohms by the way, so it will definitely need a new amplifier. www.crutchfield.com/p_130TSA20LD/item.html

Will Kicker 48cwr82 be a direct replacement for my 2002 GMC Yukon XL?
james  May 31, 2024

A

Q
Will this work in a stock 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the 7 speaker Infinity system... Without needing to add an amp? The stock sub is 2 ohm.
chris  Apr 02, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Chris. the factory subwoofer has two voice coils and are 2 ohms for each. The factory subwoofer is getting 30 to maybe at best 50 watts from the factory amplifier. If you are changing the factory subwoofer because you want more bass, an amplifier will be needed for this subwoofer.
thomas  Apr 03, 2024 (Staff)
Q
What are the dimensions of the sub to the flush mount, Length and Width not Depth, as that is already in the specs? I am trying to see if it is a good replacement for my 2013 Honda Accord EX-L 4 door.
bart  Jan 26, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Radman, and thank you for your question. The depth is measured from the mounting surface of the sub. The mounting height is above the mounting surface and under your factory grille. That is .64 inches. Magnet diameter is 4.9 inches and the needed cutout hole size would be 6.797 inches. Your Accord has plenty of depth, and under the grille is .648, so its good there as well. The cutout hole of the factory sub is 6.199. That's where the problem comes in, you would need to make the hole bigger.
thomas  Jan 26, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Does this subwoofer fit in the factory location with little to no adjustment? From what I can see in the pictures, the screw holes don't look like they line up.
walter w  Nov 06, 2022
1 answer
A
It is quite possible that you may have to re-drill a couple of screw holes to line up with a factory locations. To verify if that would be the case with your particular vehicle, you can give us a call at 800.324.9695 to speak with an advisor that should be able to confirm that.
