About the Kicker 48TRTP122

Bob Bihlmayer

Enlarge your horizons with bigger bass

Kicker's TRTP122 loaded enclosure puts a low-profile CompRT 12" subwoofer and a 12" passive radiator in a downward-firing box that brings Kicker bass power to the crowded spaces of today's cars and trucks. The rugged sealed box was designed specifically for the subwoofer, so you can count on getting maximum performance, whatever you listen to. The second sub (called a "passive radiator") reacts to the air pressure produced by the active sub, reinforcing the low end without the noise of a ported enclosure.

The second sub (called a "passive radiator") reacts to the air pressure produced by the active sub, reinforcing the low end without the noise of a ported enclosure.

Made to dish it out

The CompRT sub's tough injection-molded polypropylene cone gives it the stiffness to resist distortion when you're pushing the volume. Its rubber surround stands up to heavy use, and combines with a specially-designed back plate to give you more excursion (which equals more bass) than other skinny subs. This sub handles up to 500 watts RMS, so you'll get the kind of bass response that brings the best out of your music.

Good-looking and tough

The box's downward-firing design helps protect the sub from damage, and lets you place items on top of the cabinet to save space. Its sturdy medium-density fiberboard construction and rugged black carpet covering give the enclosure good looks that complement its performance.

Features

Woofer & Passive Radiator: The Kicker 48TRTP122 enclosure is loaded with one 12" CompRT series subwoofer. The Kicker subwoofer features a polypropylene cone with a Santoprene surround. The surround and cone are attached using Kicker's signature red double stitching, providing an outstanding bond. Along with the subwoofer, the 48TRTP122 features a 12" Kicker reFLEX passive radiator, providing extremely low bass from a compact sealed enclosure.

Forced Air Cooling: Kicker uses their SoloKon technology to join the cone to the vented back brace, creating a single integrated unit. This forces air through the motor assembly allowing it to run 20% cooler and helping eliminate distortion.

Down-Firing Enclosure: The sealed down-firing enclosure is made of heavy-duty MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) with extensive internal bracing, providing exceptional acoustic efficiency and deep powerful bass. The enclosure is covered in sleek black carpeting for added protection and a refined look. Its compact, down-firing form allows it to be mounted in cargo areas, or under seats. Four rubber spacers are included that mount to the bottom of the enclosure, providing additional enclosure height.

Speaker Terminals: A single pair of spring-posts are mounted on the underside of the enclosure in a recessed terminal cup, and will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Power: The single 2Ω CompRT subwoofer can handle 250W-500W RMS (1000W peak).

Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker CompRT speakers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The suspension system is very stiff out-of-the-box. Approximately two weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. Once broken-in, the subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.

Q
will this fit under the back seat or behind the back seat of a 2008 ford f250 supercrew cab?
michael  Jan 22, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Michael. Thank you for your question. Unfortunately at the time of your vehicles research process, we did not measure behind the seat, or under them. Once the research is done on a vehicle, we are not going back. I would measure back, or under there yourself, see what you come up with. The box dimensions are 27.5"W x 6.125"H x 14.625"D.

Q
I have the kicker 48TRTP102 installed in my 16 Cruze, if I upgrade to the 48TRTP122 will my car push enough power without ruining my battery?
gavin  Jan 19, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Gavin. Thank you for your question. Its not the subwoofer that pulls current off the battery, but the amp does. If you change out your amp, to one that has the 500 watts the 48TRTP122 is looking for, it should still be fine without adding a second battery, or capacitator.
hogan  Jan 20, 2024 (Staff)
Q
Can I power this with a skar rp 1200 mono block or would I be over powering it?
jarritt  Jan 16, 2024
1 answer
A
The Kicker 48TRTP122 can handle a maximum of 500-watts RMS, Jarritt. The Skar RP1200 delivers 800-watts RMS into a 2-ohm load and would be too powerful.

Q
Will it fit in a 2016 Tacoma double cab?
manny  Oct 21, 2023
1 answer
A
We do not qualify universal subwoofers like the Kicker 48TRTP122 for specific vehicle fit, Manny. We advise measuring carefully your desired install location and comparing it to the dimensions I have listed for the Kicker box below: 27.5" Wide 6.125" High 14.625" Deep Any items that simply do not fit after due diligence in measuring can be returned for a refund within the first 60-days.

Q
What else you need? 2019 Chevy Silverado. Wire harness? If so, what is the price?
law_dog_usmc  Jul 21, 2023
1 answer
A
You will need an amplifier, amp wiring kit, speaker wire, and perhaps other accessories. Our advisors are happy to help with selecting the correct items for your project. Please reach out to our advisors via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

Q
What gauge speaker wire should I use to connect this to my amp?
kevin  Apr 21, 2023
1 answer
A
You will want to use a large, 12-gauge wire for subwoofers like this Kicker 48TRTP122 Kevin. The Stinger PRO series 12-gauge in the link below is an outstanding choice, we can get you as many feet as you need for your specific install! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_541SPW512B/Stinger-PRO-Series-Speaker-Wire-12-Gauge.html

Q
Will this fit under the back seats of a 2008 F-250 crew cab?
anden  Jan 11, 2023
1 answer
A
Unfortunately, we do not have exact measurements of the space under the seats in your truck. The measurements for this subwoofer enclosure are 27.5"W x 6.125"H x 14.625"D.

Q
Here's a tricky question; which will produce louder bass; this unit a single 12" sealed, or a 10" Kicker with passive radiator?
dana  Dec 09, 2022
1 answer
A
That is a great question Dana, certainly with a number of variables. I can try to break it down hypothetically, and for this comparison I think we should use this Kicker 46CXA800.1T amp in the first link below to provide our "theoretical" power. If you have infinite floor space in your ride and you are looking for maximum bass output, a single Kicker 12" COMPrt in a small, sealed box like this SPL in the second like would most likely provide the best performance and nice tight bass. If you would like similar performance but need to have storage space the Kicker 48TRTP122 is a solid move. I hope this helps! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20646CX81T/Kicker-46CXA800-1T.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_419SB112/SPL-Boxes-SB112.html

Q
Will this fit under the rear seat of a 2010 Toyota tundra?
redfoot  Dec 02, 2022
1 answer
A
This may be too tall to fit under the rear seats in a 2010 Tundra. The measurements of this enclosure are 27.5"W x 6.125"H x 14.625"D. Please reach out to our advisors via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695 for help with determining the best subwoofer option for your vehicle.
zachary  Dec 02, 2022 (Staff)
Q
Can I place this on an angle? I have about 10 inches of flat space under my rear seat with a total of 12.75 inches after a little incline. And I was wondering if I could shove this under the seat on a slight angle to make it fit?
aidan  Nov 11, 2022
1 answer
A
With a fit that tight Aidan, I would not recommend. These are pretty sturdy boxes, but they do need to sit on a flat surface so the speaker or the bass radiator does not get damaged by physical contact. The smaller Kicker 48CVTDF102 in the link below might be an easier fit. It's always a good idea to measure twice before order! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20648CF102/Kicker-48CVTDF102.html

Q
Looking at this sub and wondering if there's a 5 channel that pairs well to power the whole system?
johnathan  Sep 19, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Jonathan, and thank you for your question. We ill have a few amplifiers that match that Kicker subwoofers power needs. For the main speakers though, we would like to match their power as well. Please call one of our advisors at 800-324-9695, and they will find the right match for your setup.

Q
Will this fit under my rear seat in a 2022 chevy colorado?
josh  Aug 29, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Josh, and thank you for your question. Unfortunately its pretty rare that we measure under a vehicles seating. We have not measured the 2022 Colorado. The Kicker 48TRTP122 dimensions are 27.5"W x 6.125"H x 14.625"D. Its possible, but do your own measuring before you purchase this.

Q
Will my Kicker 43CXA600.1 be plenty for this setup?
junior  Jul 14, 2022
1 answer
A
Yes you would have plenty of power. Your amp gives you 600 watts at 2 ohms and that sub set up handles up to 500 watts at the 2 ohm load. You may even consider turning the gain down slightly on the amp.
arielle  Jul 14, 2022 (Staff)
Q
Can the JBL Club A600 push this?
triston  Jun 17, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Triston, and thank you for your question. The Kicker 48TR TP122 is rated for 500 watts, we typically do not like to recommend going over rated power. We would like to see you go with a 500 watt amp instead. The Club A600 will put 600 watts on that Kicker sub.

Q
Hey people, has anyone already installed it in a jeep gladiator?
cabronyvago  Apr 23, 2022
2 answers
A
Not in a jeep, but a hatch none the less and it's an impressive speaker and sound for the package size. Definitely worth it! P.s I'm running 850 watts mono and it sounds great.
robert  Apr 25, 2022
A
Not sure if this will help you or not. I have this in a 2018 Ram Mega cab behind the seat and it sounds great. I could have installed under the seat but I like to drop the seat to the floor when I need to lay the seats down.
steve  Apr 25, 2022
Q
Can i use a 1-ohm amp for this 2-ohm subwoofer?
chase  Mar 21, 2022
1 answer
A
It is ok to use an amp that is 1 ohm stable with this subwoofer as long as that amp outputs the proper watts RMS at 2 ohms to run this subwoofer. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to get a personal recommendation

Q
What frequency is this loaded enclosure tuned to and/or what's the internal airspace?
james  Mar 06, 2022
1 answer
A
It is 2ohm. And believe the box is tuned for 31-33hz. Air space don't know. It's preloaded and designed by kicker.
brett  Mar 06, 2022
Q
Is this sub stable at 1ohm?
david  Jan 25, 2022
2 answers
A
It's a 2 ohm sub. They don't make one at 1 ohm in this configuration.
chris  Jan 25, 2022
A
To my knowledge, no. The speaker is wired at 2ohm. There is only one active speaker within in the enclosure. I potentially be stable at 1ohm if you had two of those boxes.only if your amp can take 1ohm. Go with the manufacturer recommends. This speaker is at 2ohms. It's base enough volume for many.
brett  Jan 25, 2022
Q
can you have this standing up instead of laying down?
bambam  Oct 05, 2021
1 answer
A
It is possible to position this box so its standing up and not laying down. It has not been designed to be stable this way so you must make sure it is held securely in this position.
jason  Oct 10, 2021 (Staff)
Q
Just got my speakers today my question is what is the brackets and screws for taped to the inside of the box? Cardboard box not speaker box
paul  Oct 01, 2021
5 answers
A
They are for mounting the speakers but they fit under my truck seat just fine they don't move lol.
willie  Oct 11, 2021
A
In case you need to screw it down. I threw mine away with the box/container that it came in. I would rather strap it down or use Velcro than screw into a brand new box.
chris  Oct 02, 2021
A
Probably to mount the box down to the vehicle. Being down firing if you don't it will bounce up and move around a lot
payton  Oct 01, 2021
A
I usef them to mount amp to back side of sub
michael  Oct 01, 2021
A
You can screw it down to the floor if needed. I have mine in a Mega Cab behind the seat on its side and Did not screw it down. I want to be able to move it easily if I need to. I would have done the same under the seat as they do not move around much even with out the bracket. Hope that helps and it does sound great in my RAM using a JL amp with control knob to adjust bass from song to song.

Q
Are these subs Stackable?
marcus  Aug 03, 2021
1 answer
A
They are not designed to be stacked as no gear was included or provisions built into the box to help secure one on top of the other. We do not recommend stacking them
jason  Aug 04, 2021 (Staff)
Q
How many cubic feet is the box?
eddie  Jul 11, 2021
1 answer
A
We do not have that specification for the box since the subwoofer has already been included. Kicker may have that information about the box volume and recommend contacting them by calling 405-624-8583 to check if they know the box volume.
