Pro-Ject RPM 1 Carbon
Crutchfield customer from Louisville, KY on 11/21/2021
I'm giving this turntable 3 stars because I purchased my first Project RPM 1 a year ago and it came with the Sumiko Pearl cartridge which sounded fantastic. So I purchased a second one for my second system with the new Sumiko Rainier cartridge and it made this turntable sound edgy and harsh. Both turntables were set up correctly prior to listening. It seems I am not the only one that feels this way. So now I have to purchase another cartridge to correct this. Sorry Project but the Rainier cart. is a fail!!
Pros: Great looking turntable with lots of upgrade options
Cons: The Sumiko Rainier cart sucks!!

Terrific turntable to get back to hearing my old vinyl. Great construction. I especially like the very small footprint of the three legs, fit my situation perfectly.

RPM 1 Carbon with Sumiko Rainier
Crutchfield customer from Antelope, CA on 10/17/2020
Sound-wise the new Sumiko Rainier elevates this entry level turntable from its own Pro-ject line. The best part is the stylus is easily upgradeable. Beautiful looking in white, perfectly balanced and stable except for its weight. It is really light weight and if mass is important to you , go for the RPM5. The platter designers must have improved its process, as mine didn't come with holes for balancing. Tonearm tracking is ok even though its quite short. I love the magnetic anti skate for the precise adjustments. I haven't fiddled with the VTA or Azimuth adjustments yet coz I'm quite happy with the included cartridge. The motor is very quiet but was running a little fast at 33.9 RPM . Was advised by Crutchfield tech support that a little faster speed should not be audible and that by plugging the motor directly to a socket and not a power conditioner will help slow down the speed. It slowed it down to 33.8 RPM. Maybe in time the motor will burn-in and normalize to 33.3 RPM . I'm satisfied with this turntable in relation to its price range. I would have rated this a 5 star turntable if it was a little heavier and the tonearm is a little bit longer. (I didn't consider the faster motor a negative hence it was not included in the previous statement)
