Sound good but functionality limited Maybe not great for apartments - the bass is overwhelming and there's not a setting to emphasize vocal clarity, just "less bass" Very slow response via hdmi arc cable and I had mine professionally installed Doesn't play nice with Samsung Frame TV

Pros: Looks cool

Cons: Functionality limited, app is bad

Devialet Dione Opéra

Over the years, I have owned several Devialet products, ranging from their smallest Phantom speaker to their high end Expert Pro amplifiers. None have disappointed, and the Dione is no exception. The sound is extraordinary for such a small box, and I especially appreciate the ability to enhance tv/movie dialog. The Opera version is a bit more expensive than the regular Dione, but it is much better looking and fits our room nicely.

Devialet Dione Opéra

Crutchfield will hate this review. I almost spent 20k on a suite of top line speakers for my living room. Then I saw this soundbar that had received solid reviews and looks like a piece of art. I decided to buy the Devialet Dione Opera and see if I really needed to spend 20k for a typical living room set-up. My test is always the Bruno Mars 24K Magic Video. So I'm 50+ and that's as edgy as I get. The sound is ridiculous. I can't even understand what witchcraft is responsible for the bass that comes from this thing. On TV and Movies the dialogue is solid. Unless you are setting up a home theater in an acoustically perfect man cave I'd make this soundbar the centerpiece of any living room setup and save the money to spend on a nicer TV.

Pros: Beauty Bass Volume Dialogue Clarity

Cons: Lack of in Box description of buttons on top of sound bar.maybe I don't need to know.

Jaw-droppingly immersive soundbar changes the game...

Even though it's a high price point for a soundbar, I've been consistently blown away by the Devialet Dione Opéra (I will address the elephant in the room -- the Opéra edition -- in a moment*). Setup was not only quick, simple and painless... it was actually kind of fun. The first film I tested was the 4K UHD disc of DRIVE (specifically the opening pre-credits sequence) to really get a feel for how Atmos and 5.1 are handled in a single piece of equipment. The power of the bass, the immersive feeling of the sound, the minute details (like breaths and tiny audio effects, let alone making dialogue pronounced and easy to understand -- a huge plus for the Dione) absolutely won me. Even streaming less bombastic content felt spine tingling (playing anything from Netflix's DAHMER to a screener of WOMEN TALKING wrapped me up in audio in a way I never thought possible for a soundbar). Is it 'true' 5.1 or Atmos? Probably not the latter -- but is it so close that I don't really care? Definitely. This is unlike anything I've heard before and I Devialet doesn't disappoint. *While I, admittedly, love this limited edition, I'm not sure that I can fully justify the extra $500 that separate the Opéra from the standard (black) Dione -- they are the same piece of equipment if you take away the 22 carat gold. For me, it was less an aesthetic decision than it was a 'collector's piece' decision. That said, it's a lot of extra money without any added features other than aesthetics.

Pros: - incredible room-filling sound truly feels like Atmos (whether it technically is or not) - bass is tremendous without drowning out higher end noises and effects (like pieces of dialogue or singing) - very easy set-up / calibration process - gorgeous, elegant piece of equipment; the build quality is staggeringly impressive - truly redefines the notion of having a surround setup in a stereo package without cheating; this is a game-changer that is in a class of its own

Cons: - it's a bit awkward/strange to turn the Dione on/off (especially off), especially using the app, which is otherwise very well thought out and designed - pricey, particularly the extra $500 for the Opéra edition (this probably could have been brought down a bit)
