Line array made easy

RCF puts all its design chops and speaker-building experience into creating the easy-to-set-up HDL 20-A line array system. Each module houses two 10" woofers, a 2" compression driver, and a 1400-watt amplifier in a rugged wood-reinforced polypropylene composite enclosure designed to be flown or pole-mounted. The built-in amplifier delivers 500 watts RMS (1000 peak) to the woofer and 200 watts RMS (400 peak) to the tweeter, using a tested Class D design that produces very little heat. The speaker's input accepts XLR or 1/4" connectors, and an XLR output allows you to send signal to another speaker.

DSP deluxe

Controls on the back allow you to select high-frequency response for short-throw or long-throw applications, low-frequency response for the number of speakers in the cluster, and settings for indoor or outdoor use, all through the magic of digital signal processing. You can set the modules at the top of the array to throw high frequencies to the back of the hall, while the modules set to short throw at the bottom of the array won't overpower people in the front row. You can adjust low-frequency and midrange response depending on the size of the speaker cluster.

You can fly up to sixteen modules per side.

Dynamic drivers

The compression horn uses a honkin' 3" voice coil which allows it to handle frequencies all the way down to 800 Hz. With this design, the horn covers most of the vocal range for better dispersion and serious efficiency. The 10" woofers use water-resistant cellulose cones for high efficiency and superior damping, while a built-in limiter protects the amplifier and speakers from damage.

Versatile and powerful

You can fly multiple modules on each side of the stage, or you can pole-mount a couple on top of an RCF powered sub. You can use signal processing to tailor the system's output to match any application, while the rear-panel AC inputs and outputs allow you to daisy chain multiple speakers. Unlike most line array modules which are preconfigured to stack four or five in a cluster, you can stack up to sixteen of these RCF modules per side, giving you much more flexibility in covering a larger venue.

Features

Overview: The RCF HDL 20-A Active Line Array Module is a 2-way speaker designed for live applications in small to medium size venues, indoors or outdoors. The HDL 20-A features two 10" woofers and a 2" high-frequency compression driver mounted compact and rugged polypropylene enclosure that's built for the rigors of touring use. The line array speaker is powered by a built-in 700-watt RMS (1400 W peak) Class-D amplifier with 200-watts RMS applied to the compression driver and 500-watts RMS to the dual woofers.

Precision Transducers: The HDL 20-A features a single large format 2" compression driver with a 3" voice coil, providing superior efficiency and dispersion control. An internal 800 Hz crossover allows the compression driver to handle most of the vocal range for added clarity and definition. Two high-power 10" woofers feature RCF's unique Inside/Outside voice coil design that provides several advantages: the dissipation surface is doubled; the adhesion area to the former is doubled; and during thermal expansion, the former is squeezed between inside and outside layers, offering the best mechanical resistance.

Protection: The RCF HDL 20-A features a built-in protection circuit to guard against amplifier over-heating, and a limiter circuit that will automatically engage if the output signal starts to clip or distort.

Shape Designer Software: RCF's easy Shape Designer software, available here, lets you setup the array speaker for optimal acoustic performance based on the venue and your system components. Speaker distances, levels, delay times and more can all be configured for each venue.

Rear Panel:

Input & Output: A single balanced XLR/1/4" combo jack provides the audio input, accepting line-level signals. A corresponding male XLR Link output provides a pass-thru for the input signal when daisy-chaining multiple speakers.
Volume: Rotary dial; lets you adjust the overall output level; a center detent indicates unity gain.
High Frequency: Push-button (Near/Far); can activate a boost in the high-frequency range for increased intelligibility at farther distances.
Cluster: Two push-button switches provide four options of mid/low frequency correction depending on the speaker cluster size;
- 2-3 Speakers: Used for pole-mounting and ground stacking applications
- 4-6 Speakers: Optimized for small flown systems
- 7-9 Speakers: Optimized for medium flown systems
- 10-16 Speakers: Optimized for maximum flown configuration
High Curving: Push-button; lets you activate a boost to the mid frequencies when installing the speaker in a high-curving cluster configuration; Off, no correction; On, activates the mid frequency boost.
Indoor: Push-button (On/Off); lets you add low-frequency correction when the speaker is used indoors, compensating for room reverberation and low-frequency build up.
LED Indicators:
- Power: The Power LED will light to show the system is powered on.
- Signal: Indicates an audio signal is present on the input.
- Limiter: Lets you know if the internal limiter circuit to prevent clipping has been activated.
Power In & Link: A PowerCon Power In port lets you connect the AC power input connection. A corresponding Link output lets you daisy-chain the power connection out to additional speakers.

Mounting: Designed primarily for "flying", the HDL 20-A speaker features locking pin attachment points on each front corner of the speaker cabinet, letting you attach multiple HDL 20-As in a stack and suspend them from venue rigging (up to 6) using the optional RCF FB-HDL20 Flybar kit. The Flybar kit also allows the HDL 20-A to be mounted on top of an RCF HDL 18-AS, SUB 8004-AS, or SUB 8006-AS subwoofer, providing angle adjustment options.
